BACKUP SALON REQUIRED! When one takes money from clients time and time again, one has an obligation to the people they take money from. The owner of this salon has been cutting my hair for maybe 10 years including the salons before she owned this one. I had an appointment on December 15th, I had fallen six feet off an 8ft ladder and I was 20 minutes late to my appointment. While she showed no curiosity about why I was late, she was clearly unwilling to lift a finger to cut my hair when she could have done so very easily and possibly been 5 minutes late for her next customer. She could have said, "Oh, I have an idea! Let's forget the shampoo and I can get you out of here in 15min!" But that's not what happened! She's cut my hair so many times, she could do it with her eyes closed. There was no Christmas rush in the studio, no frenzy, no one backed up; she just didn't want to go to the trouble of dealing with a longtime client who was late the week of Christmas. I have showed up regularly, paid regularly, tipped 20% regularly but the professionalism/ common sense was absent. VERY DISAPPOINTING. This woman and her husband have even been to my house for parties! I suggest people tiptoe around this salon because you never know when you're going to get dropped. Flexibility and loyalty is part of being a professional. Obligation is what you have to those who consistently spend money with you. Professionalism is the hallmark of stepping up to the plate and doing what has to be done. A lack of professionalism irritates your clients for which you get crummy reviews. I discovered this salon as a "walk-in " about 18 months ago. I was greeted immediately by Candice who was very genuine. The salon was very busy and it was a 2 week wait to get in, (they had just reopened after covid) Candice was straight forward. I said no problem, not sure what to expect. My first appointment I met Sherry, she has been doing my hair ever since. She is talented, and kind and really good at color, cuts, extensions and more! They also offer waxing services which I highly recommended. My wedding party had hair and makeup done here as well by Priscilla. It turned out beautifully. read more

Candice and her team of stylists are beyond spectacular and the salon itself is breathtaking! The atmosphere of this salon is far greater than one could ever imagine, it is bright, welcoming, relaxing yet fun and so very clean. Not good is an understatement. The most atrocious and unskilled haircut I have ever EVER paid for. Erin was 30 minutes behind schedule, so I waited. Then waited some more. Finally ready. She barely talked about what I wanted done. I asked for a lob, which is a long bob, usually shoulder length or collarbone length. She was like okay so a couple inches off? Then hurried to shampoo then rushed through this haircut, obviously trying to get back on schedule, which fine, I can understand. But as it started to emerge what she was doing to my hair, I saw my face just crumble in the mirror. It's awful. Awful! the hair on top of my head is maybe 2 inches long and the rest barely hits my chin. My bangs are sooo crooked and hacked I honestly look like a toddler whose 5 year old brother got ahold of scissors. I look ridiculous. it's like a mullet with random short hair everywhere on the top of my head that poofs out and the rest of it just limply sit flat on my neck. It's legitimately a hideous stupid haircut. After going through a painful and heartbreaking separation 2 weeks ago I wanted to do something kind for myself so that I would look better and feel sexier, like I can conquer the world. Instead I really don't want to leave my apartment and am digging through all my still boxed up clothes to find my hats. It's the worst haircut I've ever had. Please, find another more professional salon where they have training and understand about hair type and face shape and can give you a haircut that compliments both those things, not this scissor happy bull****. My stylist is Erin and she has been doing my hair for years! She was at another salon when I first went to her. She cuts and colors my hair. She listens to my requests and answers my questions about style options, etc. The salon has plenty of comfortable seating, relaxing atmosphere, and the most comfortable chairs at the hair washing stations--your head is not hanging backwards over the edge of the sink. The salon always seems busy, so they must be doing something right. I highly recommend this salon! read more

I saw Michelle a few weeks back to get my hair colored. I hadn't colored it in years so it was all virgin hair, I asked if I should do balayage with the goal to have platinum blonde eventually. She went on with the cost of upkeep and how many hours I'd have to spend in the salon to keep up my hair if I dyed it all blonde (This did put me off a bit since I've never had a stylist lecture me and insult me but I let it go because I'm aware that maybe she had good intentions). Ive usually done highlights until all my hair is blonde but we both agreed it may look more blended doing balayage than to have streaks. I've had my hair blonde many times so I know my requests are more than attainable and I put my trust in her. When I saw the foils come out I could see the blonde was beautiful and light and after she washed and "toned" it, all that light color was lost and it was a dark golden blonde which is not what I was asking for but as the stylist SHE felt it was more "natural and that it blended better than to have white blonde"... When I left I was really disappointed in how dark it was and I said "it's still really dark.. if we schedule again will you be able to get it the way I wanted and the pictures I showed you?" (they were of me.. with blonde hair lol so it's not like I was basing it off of some random person). She reassured me that it's hard to do in one go (I get that) so I scheduled an appointment for today. When I sat down I said "would it be easier to just dye all my hair from root to end blonde?" She said again "well you'd have to be in here every 4 weeks" and continued about upkeep and not being able to get a platinum blonde it'd be uneven color and more yellowy blonde etc. she said, "let's just do what we did last time and go over the blonde and it will be brighter"... what? Ive learned when you foil and highlight, during the next session, you lighten the dark pieces, then the other pieces that were already bleached the first time around are avoided so you don't kill your hair while also achieving more blonde..! She said "I'll recommend you to one of the other girls since coloring blonde from root to end isn't my forte and we'll just do what we did last time today and get it a little lighter." I hesitated since I'd spent over $300 and 3 hours the first time only to be disappointed. I'm not spending all that time and money to not get what I asked for, AGAIN. She sensed this and I said "yes that's a better idea, let's just put in a request for me for one of the other girls." As I got up from the chair thinking okay I'll buy some product and leave a tip because I know she had me scheduled.. she said "well I hate to charge you but it's going to be 50% of the cost." Michelle wanted to charge me $145 based on cut color and toner ($285) from our last session!! I said "but I wasn't even scheduled for a hair cut today." She said "okay fine the least I can do is $125 because it's a holiday week and I could've had other people and it's my time and I had you were booked for my whole day." I said, "but you can't do what I'm asking and couldn't the first time, but I came back to give you another chance." I really just wanted to walk out, I'm well aware of cancellations fees etc but I showed up and she couldn't provide a service. That is not my fault. I said I'll compromise and pay $100 and she replied, if the $25 is that important to you than fine. !!!! SO RUDE. As IF money were the issue here, unfortunately Michelle's incompetence and attitude is. I reluctantly gave her $100 and said I've had my hair colored and been blonde many many times not ONCE have I ever had an issue until now. And then I left. What a shame. Would NOT recommend Michelle for coloring. Not sure about the other girls but Sunshine Hair Studio has lost my business and network based on the unprofessionalism, incompetence and patronizing attitude from Michelle. read more
