This is a fantastic cleaning company. They do a great job, are responsive to text messages, and are reasonable priced. The first cleaning costs more because it's very in depth. I was amazed at the grime they found under furniture. After that, it's simply maintenance, taking a bit over an hour for a two-story house. I particularly appreciate the flexibility. I was having a last second dinner party, and they worked to get the house clean. I also feel comfortable letting them in my house when I'm not home. I would strongly recommend choosing one of the other highly reputable competing cleaning companies in the area - or at least not trusting Sunshine with an important job. I hired them for a move-in cleaning. We were on a tight timeframe and had just 2 days before we had to move in. Helen was very easy to communicate with, but that's where the positive experience ended. We weren't there when they came in to clean on a Tuesday. When we went in the following morning, it truly appeared as though nobody had come in. The kitchen was filthy, whole closets were skipped, windowsills ignored, just truly we questioned if maybe they hadn't come in at all. Helen agreed that it was not up to par so she sent the team back for Thursday. This really set back our moving plans and caused panic, but we didn't have much of a choice. My husband was there when the crew arrived on Thursday. They were rude, dismissive, and acted dismayed when he asked them to clean things - like the fridge!! Even though he pointed out all the areas we needed them to focus on, we came in with our moving truck on Friday, and while the kitchen looked a bit better (appliances still filthy) closets and windowsills were still skipped. Helen will probably respond and say "dust settles long after a house is cleaned." I am talking about actual filth skipped altogether identified within 24 hours of the supposed cleaning completion. She will also mention that I added a screened porch and garage the second day - I was under the impression that was covered from the beginning but in any event, my complaints have nothing to do with those rooms. For $840, days lost when we could have started moving things in, endless phone calls and stress/panic, I am deeply regretful for having take a chance on a sub-par company for such an important job. They don't seem to cover even the basics, let alone a deep clean. I still very much doubt they had even come the first day. Helen insists they did, but that really reflects poorly on them because of how dirty they left things. Clearly no standards or checklist to speak of. Stay away. read more

I have a 2200 square foot house and needed a monthly cleaning service. I hired Sunshine to come in and clean. Overall, I am 110% satisfied!! The house is cleaner than when we clean it!! For the first clean, they move all the furniture (that they can) and clean under everything! My house was spotless!! They clean everything like you would want it cleaned! Mopping the floors, scrubbing the tub, Murphy's oil the hardwood, cleaning the window sills, and dusting high and low! SPOTLESS! I have to say, I was very impressed!! The following cleans were just as thorough! They always have two cleaners on site, so the job goes very smoothly! They pay attention to detail and again, the house was cleaner than when I clean it! We were looking to set up a recurring monthly cleaning service and found Sunshine Maids on Yelp. Reviews looked positive and we wanted to support a local business vs a chain. I made an appointment for Helen to come by for an estimate on a Friday afternoon. Received an email saying there was an emergency and she wouldn't be able to make the appointment. I said no problem, let's reschedule for the same day/time the following week. That day I rushed home to meet her. Our appointment time came and went, she was a no show, no call. I emailed her that night reminding her that we'd had an appointment. Never heard back. As a former business owner myself, I was really surprised that she flat out ignored me and my email. Communication goes a long way in my book. If you tell someone you just can't be there for this or that reason, most often people can be very forgiving and understanding. Perhaps she/they aren't interested in the (by my best calculations) $4000 in steady, ongoing income we'd be paying her/them annually (based on monthly service plus extra cleanings at holidays and occasions). Maybe they're so busy or over extended that they just can't handle more business. Really disappointing experience with an unprofessional business. We've since moved on and found a company that called ahead, confirmed the appointment and showed up on time. read more

Called them last minute to clean our two bedroom after a roommate moved out. Roommate left a mess, and lots of cat and dog hair behind. Spoke to Melissa, and was desperate to get cleaners in ASAP to the house so it could actually be habitable. She was great - cool, down to earth, accommodating, and friendly. She scheduled it for the next day (we had been turned down by other area cleaning companies, and given a date far in the future). We came home to a sparkling clean house - really thorough. It was the best feeling in the world. I would recommend this company anytime. I don't really have the money for it, but I am thinking about contracting with them for a cleaning once a month. My husband and I needed our new apartment we were moving into cleaned and booked a deep cleaning. We were quoted a high rate but given we wanted the apartment professionally cleaned on a short notice prior to move in, we went ahead with it. There was a team of four girls. I had some errands to run while they were cleaning the apartment so I wasn't there the whole time. When I came back they said they were done and I specifically asked if they cleaned the bath tubs (2 in our apt) and they said yes. Two days later my husband and I were setting up the guest bathroom and found literal dust bunnies and hair in the second tub (we haven't even used this tub yet). So clearly they didn't clean it and we paid a significant amount for a poor poor service. I would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

I had an awful experience with Sunshine Maids. I needed a vacant apartment cleaned before a new tenant moved in. Four maids arrived, with the owner, and I explained that I wanted attention on the kitchen appliances, the bathroom, and small details through out the empty apartment that may be over looked during daily cleaning. Their time in the apartment started out with them sitting on the kitchen floor eating their lunches, with me running up and down stairs to heat their food for them. When the owner returned a few hours later, I also returned to check on their work. I was astounded! They had done nothing! I went from room to room, with spray cleaner and paper towel, and wiped the windowsills, on top of the windows (where the locks are), and the light switches, and the paper towels were filthy! The fridge and bathroom looked untouched! What had they been doing other than eating and giggling for two hours?!? The owner seemed put out by my disappointment and expressed that she needed to be some where soon, but she did make them go back and "redo" some things, but it was just to appease me. The girls were obstinate and obviously had no respect for their boss, because they redid nothing! After they left, I was still disappointed and wanted the undone work, that I had now paid for, completed. I tried calling, but my calls would not go through on my phone. I used another phone, that was not attached to my name, and I got the owner on the first try. I told her I had pics of the unfinished work, but she told me I'd have to pay for them to come back and they could not fit me in before the new tenant's arrival. She then proceeded to hang up on me. The owner argued aggressively with me on the phone. It was humiliating. I've never been treated so poorly by a company. The owner was at the residence. I know she knew the job was done poorly, because she told me not to tip the girls, but I still had to pay her for the service. Do not waste your time or money on Sunshine Maids. read more

Really wonderful service. The coordination with Helen is great. She is quick to respond and does her best to accommodate my schedule. Anna, the supervisor, is thorough and has her crew in control. They come on time and are incredible fast. When I ask them to do any out of the ordinary cleanings, like the inside of the fridge or vacuuming under the seat cushions, they do it quickly and thoroughly. We were looking for a house cleaner while I was out with maternity leave. We read the good the reviews on yelp so thought we would give Sunshine Maids a try. We were able to get an appointment fairly quickly and was told 2 people would be sent to the house. They were going to be a very thorough cleaning the first trip and would expect them to take about an hour and a half. The day of the cleaning I received a call telling me they were going to add a 3rd person to the cleaning unit but it should not change the price since they will be done faster than originally quoted. 2pm (the scheduled start time) came and went. I called Sunshine Maids at 2:45 to find out where the crew were. I was told they were running late. I said I would have appreciated a call instead of me having to wait then call myself. The 3 person crew showed up at 3:30 pm. They were very cordial and got to work right away. They finished exactly an hour later. They did do a pretty good job. I would not say it was a "thorough" cleaning but overall the house was pretty clean. My biggest gripe was that whoever mopped the floors walked on them while they were wet so I had boot prints all over the place. Being this was my first time using them, I expected a follow up call to find out if I was satisfied with their work. Nothing. I did receive a call a week later saying they copied down my credit card information incorrectly. I gave them the correct info and told them about the my issue with the floors (they never asked). Their response was oh, sorry. It's too bad they don't have very good customer service. I would have utilized them again. read more

So as an update to my original review, I'm not sure I should be giving 2 stars. We have the monthly cleaning service. Just my husband and I, no kids, no pets - trust wanted the floors, dusting and bathroom given a good clean monthly and we clean in between. The initial cleaning and the following first month were good. The second month, I didn't think they washed the kitchen and bathroom floors - they seemed dirty but it had been a couple of days since they had cleaned so I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. the next month, immediately when I got home from work after they had cleaned - (tried to post pics to this review but it wont work) I took one swipe with clorox wipe on the bathroom floor and it was filthy. The kitchen floor still had dripped food or something and the shower had a slimy film. I was really upset because now I know in 2 months my floors haven't been washed. So I contacted the owner. She apologized and said it wouldn't happen again. She told me she would give me 50% off my next monthly cleaning. Honestly, I'm not sure that 2 months of paying them to NOT clean my house should result in 50% off. I asked them to come back that same day or the next to wash the floors but they didn't have time and did not do that. Needless to say, I'm disappointed that they were cutting corners for two months on the major aspects of the cleaning, then not to come fix the mistake and still charging me - 50%.... I do not believe this is a fair situation and obviously could no longer recommend this company. Their cleaning is not what it should be. read more

I had recently needed a cleaner for an apt that i my tenant moved out. I stopped at their Westwood location and talked with the women that was at the desk. She said it would probably be 150$ for 2 girls. My tenant who moved out was very clean and all i asked for was bathroom, kitchen and hardwood floors. When i got there Helen the owner charged me 280$ and no invoice. She continued to argue with me and said they did the windows and how much that costs. I did not ask for that. I was about to ask her for pricing on cleaning my house. I am glad i found this out before I procured any other services. And for being an established store front, she did not give me an invoice detailing services rendered. read more

After I was hospitalized 3 days before I was supposed to have the in-laws in town (and the place was really disgusting) Sunshine Maids was able to make a last-minute appointment. They were FANTASTIC. Very friendly and super thorough. We had a few rooms that were the priority and a couple that were "if you have time" and they got it all done and more. 3 ladies cleaned more in 2 hours than I could have done in WEEKS at full health. They even cleaned things we never expected them to, like the dirty dishes in the sink and straightening up piles of mess and things on the tables. Will definitely be using them again! read more

Since it was my first time using the service, Helen (Owner), stopped by the house too (just to see how things were going)...I thought it was very professional that she stopped by and introduced herself, etc. The price is fantastic (very competitive) and these ladies really don't mess around. I just had a bathroom done over so my house was covered in dust and things were a mess as they are with any remodel. I hired the sunshine maids to help clean up all the dust etc. and I have to say they went above and beyond! I came home and my house was SPOTLESS which is not easy because I also have a dog and the dog hair is never ending. Every single surface was spotless, all my stuff was organized, the floors sparkled the kitchen looked better than I thought it could it was gleaming clean. It was better than I could have even hoped and they are very trustworthy which is always a concern when you have people come to your home when you aren't there- nothing important was out of place. Helen was very responsive at first; she got right back to me, indicating "you are a little out of our area but Helen is more than happy to take a look for a good one-time clean." We scheduled an appointment on Saturday at 8am for an estimate. She never showed up, never called, just emailed me 48 hours later that when she put my address in her GPS is was just too far. I just had a great experience with the Sunshine Maids and came here to tell everybody about it! I was moving apartments and needed someone to do a thorough cleaning of the new apartment prior to moving in. I actually was thinking to try and do it myself, but then I saw one of the cute Sunshine Maids cars driving down the street and had a light bulb moment! Immediately when I got home I did an internet search and all the positive feedback I read prompted me to call and leave a message for Helen. I called last Monday and needed their services that following Thursday, the day I would sign the new lease and get the keys for the apartment. Honestly, I didn't think they would be able to accommodate me with such short notice. But they did! Helen was absolutely great! Her rates were very reasonable and she was able to fit me into their schedule for Thursday. Her staff showed up ready to work with all of their own equipment and cleaning products and they were off and running. In two hours' time they had the place absolutely gleaming, and smelling really good too! It was such a relief to have that task taken care of by somebody else, and by people who take pride in their work and who excel at their jobs. I definitely would recommend the Sunshine Maids and hope to set up a regularly scheduled appointment with them once my new place is organized! The only slightly negative thing I can say about my experience with the Maids is that they missed cleaning the base boards in the kitchen and master bath - but oh my goodness, having to do those two areas myself was not even a problem as they saved me from having to do much more tougher cleaning everywhere else!! Please do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY. The cleaners themselves were very kind and sweet, however, it was very clear that they were milking the clock. There were three workers and, instead of breaking up and working on different parts of the house, they stayed together and chatted with one another as the clock ticked on. One of them woman banged the vacuum so hard onto my wooden floor that it is damaged and needs to be replaced. The same woman, with the same vacuum, banged it into my stair railing and broke that, as well. Four hours later, they left, but I soon came to find out that they completely skipped two whole rooms! In addition, my kitchen counters were never cleaned, the master bath counter still had PILES of saw dust on it from the builder in multiple locations. How could they have just skipped over this?! Looking around the house, I found countless other areas that were just skipped over and/or not done to completion. Things I specifically asked for, such as cleaning my garage fridge/freezer, was completely ignored. When I called the manager, Helen, I was greeted with hostility and a complete lack of respect for the terrible job that was done. She continued to just argue with me that it is "a big house" and I should understand that it's "hard work." So, the owner is saying that her THREE workers cannot handle a 5 bedroom house. Um, ok. That doesn't seem to be a very good advertisement for the business. She was SO rude and disrespectful on the phone to me. I made it clear that I was not happy with the job that was done and that I thought it absolutely unfair to be charged for the terrible job that I received. She offered to come the next day and fixed the missed spots. The girls were there for 4 hours and took my entire day. The last thing that I wanted was to have her come again. I did it all myself, which I should have done in the first place. The kicker is that the owner still charged me OVER THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS!!!!!! I was so shocked and appalled that this is what she would charge someone who was extremely disappointed in the service. This shows that she does not care at all about building a clientele or establishing long term customers based on customer service. All she cares about is getting her money, and this is not what good business owners are made of. Please, do yourself a favor and just keep on searching if you are in the need of a cleaning company in this area. This is NOT the business that you should give your hard earned money to. read more

I have used many types of cleaning services and I was quite skeptical of using another since most are poor quality and disorganized and don't pay attention to details. I am glad I called Helen at Sunshine. She put me at ease and was diligent at getting back to me and kept in close contact to ensure my needs were met. The services are very good with great attention to detail and leaving no trace of dirt. They even paid attention to close instructions I gave and the prices are better than any other service I have used in the past. The competitors (something with a name like pro in the title), charged me double for a 2 bedroom condo in Roslindale and the quality was horrible (see my other review) and they had to "correct" many mistakes in their service.
