I have been taking my CRV items here for years, but no more. The last few times I have been there, I have felt like a contestant on a game show called stump the white guy. - There is a beer bottle mixed in with your water bottles. Rejected. Re-sort this and come back - There is water / condensation in your water bottles. Drain them and come back - The staff always acts like you are bothering them In addition, I've always felt like the weights were off / rigged Enough. I will find a new recycling center. Do not scrap metal or sell your copper to them; they are dishonest. They lowball you on the value of your metal and copper. I have been there a few times, and they misrepresented the weight of my copper. I had pre-weighed it, yet each time, they offered me a significantly lower amount of money per pound. Very disappointed with the service here. The workers seemed uninterested and unwilling to help. They looked for any excuse not to take my recyclables -- even rejecting the whole batch over finding a single can they claimed was "not allowed." It felt like they were just looking for reasons not to do their job. The workers always in a rush and low ball you for your scrap metals. They also give you less money than other recycling places.

They don't like taking very many items here outside of CRV items. If it doesn't meet their specs, they'll toss it back in your car. It's a really tight spot with many big rigs pulling in. If you move your vehicle to let a truck out, you get yelled at. Or, actually, whistled at. There's a guy here who speaks no English, but directs all the traffic by whistling, with no accompanying hand signals. And I have no idea what his whistles mean. But boy, if you don't follow what he wants you to do with his whistling, you'll incur his wrath. read more

DISHONEST is there number 1 scam I had two large black construction bags filled with aluminum cans. The recycling employee weight my bags and the total weight was 55lbs. The man took my bags off then threw an empty trash can onto the scale by itself. He then handed me my receipt so I can give to the cashier. The lady looked over receipt and gave me my money BUT there was a problem she didn't give me my pay worth 55lbs. of aluminum cans, she tore off the trash can weight X2. I told her about how my aluminum were still in bags when the man weighed them, she was very rude and said "Call the number on the receipt... Next!" This place is a rip off!!!! RUDE DISRESPECTFUL OFFICE & CASHIER PEOPLE! The guys in the yard are so courteous and helpful but the OFFICE OWNERS AND STAFF ( staff who appear to be all family) ARE THE RUDEST ALWAYS ! This place real bad service and talk lot of crap! One employee says I may have brought the container from Mexico? So racist!!! They look for reasons no to accept recyclables! One label came off a water bottle they threw all bags with similar bottles back into my truck. They expected me to inspect every bottle! Another time I took cans in and they noticed sweat on the cans and classified them as wet and cut price!! I will never return to this place and recommend to friends to watch these people that they look to rip off you off. I haven't recycled in a very long time because I was kinda too lazy to search for a better recycling center. In fact, I was dreading come here to the point where my few trash bags of water bottles turned into a massive mountain of plastic instead. The reason why I kept putting off recycling was because every time that I come here, it's always so stressful. There isn't a proper parking lot for you to sort things out. I've always had to bring the bags over to the staff, but that was a bit of a walk, especially considering how you have huge trucks constantly going in and out of the center. The parking lot is also really crammed. It's literally like 3 spots and a handicap spot or something. Every time I come here I have to borrow my dad's Tundra. I hate driving huge cars to begin with, but getting OUT is such a PAIN. It's like a 2-3 point turn to get out. Also, in addition to doing a multi-point turn, you also have to do it in a timely manner as there's a constant flow of traffic coming in AND out of one driveway. Last time I was here some asshole kept honking at me to move. It's not like I was taking my time either, I was trying to get the hell out of that dump ASAP. BEWARE: Because of the lack of a proper exit once you pull your vehicle into the yard, along with the general lack of upkeep, there is much debris on the floor that could possibly puncture your tire. DISHONEST!! I took my aluminum cans to sell to this place, at home I weighed them and I knew the weight correctly (I took video of this), I eliminated about a pound for the bag in which I was carrying them, 27 pounds to be exact, in this place they were only going to pay me 22 pounds. They got rude when I complained about the theft and told them: I had video of everything, they got nervous and fixed the real and correct weight of my cans. Be very careful with this place ... Added edit note (2013): I no longer go here - my new "go to" place is DBW Metals Recycling in East Anaheim - 5 stars from me! After going there, SW Metals is a 3.5 round up. I'd go back if the other place closed down for some reason. If Sunwest is much closer to you it's fine. I'm between the two and prefer DBW for several reasons. It's not at all like the recycling storage trailers in grocery stores parking lots. I take my recyclables in every couple of months or so - when I have about 4-5 large bags of plastic bottles and 2-3 kitchen size bags of crushed cans. The thing I like about this place is once I throw the bags in the back of the truck at home - I'm done with them - it's pretty much drive through after that - you pull in and wait in line in your car - sometimes it's very busy, other times I have pulled right up to the scales (I don't go often enough to remember the "best" times to go, sorry!) When busy it can be a little crazy/intimidating at first, especially if you happen to be there when the semi's are delivering or picking up material. If you pull in and start to think "WTH has Bob gotten me into here" don't worry, just relax, keep your eyes on the workers - they direct traffic and might ask you to pull around someone to keep the line going; and it does go pretty smoothly. What makes it great is when you get to one of the weigh stations, just sit back as the staff unloads your car, puts the material into those wire baskets and weighs them for you. You can see the scales and the readout from your car - having a truck works out great for this, but plenty of people just pop the trunk, hatchback or whatever you have. You will see a guy in charge of the area, he will hand you a printed invoice that details the materials, price per pound and the amount of pounds you brought tin. It is very professional, there is no wondering about what you are getting credited for. Almost always you can drive straight ahead and around a little circular path through the piles of scrap metal which brings you out the same way you came in - without having to do a U or 3 point turn. The first time I'm like "where the heck am I going, I can't get out of here" some people don't realize they can follow this route - and just start turning around - that's a pain in the butt - go around if you can, occasionally it is blocked by some work - I always ask if I can go around, and would suggest you do so as well. After that there are some parking places where you park and go to the window to collect your cash. It's easier than having to go inside a store as some places make you do, but it would be great if there was drive up window. Drive thru cash would be my one of my improvements - along with a little better signage for first timers! Sunwest will accept most competitors coupons, has a website for further info, and provides their own coupon online - you can always get a good deal. They take other scrap metal as well - over the years I've been happy to just get rid of some stuff - getting a few bucks was a bonus! I usually drive out of there with 50-75 dollars, and knowing that you are helping the environment - it's a win-win! read more

This is my go-to recycling center. Way better than the others around the area. Bob T. expressed my feelings about this place rather well. Been using this business for several years, why go anywhere else? Best prices, they do the work, pretty quick service. you stay clean. They accept all competitors coupons! Check your Pennysaver first. And you'll end with more $$ in your pocket! Simple service. Pull in, they unload your stuff, and bam you're off to see the man to get your cash. - one star cause its a PITA to maneuver my big truck (5-6 point turn) in and out. Plus I worry about getting a flat from the random debris in they're yard. Still this is the best place I've found for recycling bottles and cans. Went for the first time. When I arrived the guys there directed me to park and helped me unload the bags. They basically did everything for me from unloading to weighing the bags. You literally don't have to do anything as long as you have different cans assorted well in separate bags. The young guy there was really kind and since we looked lost, he directed us where to get paid after everything was weighed. I sold sunwest metals 600 pounds of steel scrap. I was told that they paid $ 130.00 per ton ( 2000 pounds ). At that price I should get paid $39.00, but no they paid me $34.82. The cashier behind the glass window had no explanation, please see my receipt picture. read more

Recycling rocks! I'm notorious for recycling whatever I can, but I still enjoy separating the cans and bottles (and sometimes glass) and holding them aside to take to the recycle yard instead of dumping into the recycle bin that goes out every week. Aside from getting a little spending money out of this, it's also a good way for me to visualize just how much waste I create. If all I hold aside are just the bottles and cans and I manage to accumulate so much of it over time, how much else am I dumping into landfills!? Ack! Anyway, after a few years of accumulating crushed aluminum cans and plastic bottles in the garage, I filled up my car and drove to Anaheim (we were going there anyway) to get a couple more bags from my parents' house and finally get some cold hard ca$h for this stuff. On this trip, we brought in 33.5 lbs of glass, 57.8 lbs of aluminum, and 43 lbs of plastic. For all that, we left with $139.71! HOLY COW! I've found that Sunwest's rates are the best, especially if you use the coupon in the local Pennysaver. Of course, you can recycle all kinds of other stuff, too: newspapers, copper, etc, etc. But I just do aluminum cans, glass, and plastic bottles. Thanks, Sunwest! read more

This is the closest place to recycle for me and luckily it's down the street. I usually don't have as much as other people but I love the fact that I can pull up in my car and take my stuff out and it's a quick transaction. Much better than behind a grocery store with lines of people and gigantic piles! It's quick and efficient which is what I like. read more

What are you dudes exactly paid to do anyway? They wouldn't give back my plastic bags, which I reuse, when I asked, even when the materials were in their containers. 2. Non-existent to awful parking set up. Endless incoming traffic, I almost got hit by either a big rig or some dude's truck. This was my one & only & last visit. 3. Lame, lame, lame all around. CROOKS. There was a helpful younger gentleman who worked there explaining to me the differences in my metals. And helping me separate my pile. I had a bunch of stainless steel and aluminium. While we were getting my metal onto the scale. dude who runs the machine that weighs everything and pays you out with the receipt kicks some of my metal underneath one of the bins to hide it. Then after weighing all my metals. Everything came out to $5.37. Having over 25 pounds of stainless steel and aluminum? Crooked to say the least. I definitely believe in karma I pray that everything that man touches will never be blessed. I got short changed. However, it is my own fault for not checking Yelp before going to this place. As I give them my separate cans, glass bottles and plastic bottles, I let one of the workers know that I wanted it by the count and went back to my car to get the last of the bottles. When a difference worker gave me my receipt, noted it was by the pound and not by the count as requested. He said that I did not tell him that I wanted it by the count and that he always does it by the pound unless he is told otherwise. One would think that the other worker I spoke to would have communicated what I said to the other. read more

This place is absurd. My husband tried to take our sorted recycling there and they would not take it! They said the plastics had to be sorted better and there were a few metal things they were unable to take so they told him to come back later. In the past they had never given me a hard time, in fact they had been very friendly and helpful. If there was something they couldn't take they just didn't take it, but this time they turned my husband away even though everything else was well-sorted and ready to go. What a pain to go through this every time you need to recycle! We ended up having to just throw away our recycling because we were letting a friend borrow our car and couldn't give it to him with a bunch of garbage in it.
