Tyler (SD native, woot woot!) and Machi (owners/ instructors and married couple!) along with their rescued surf pups Phoenix/ Phi Phi, Poke, and Dobbie played host to an awesome ocean SUP dog experience off the waters of Sans Souci Beach near Waikiki. I honestly haven't done that much open ocean paddling -- let alone with a dog on board -- so the experience and provided lesson was much appreciated, especially in getting me acquainted with the strong Hawaii waters and swells before launching out on my own. The instruction was very bare bones with a full on-dry-land instructional provided, including how to fall in the water which caught me by surprise, the specifics, having not dealt with underwater reefs before. Tyler, who led this lesson, was very upbeat and clear; such great, positive energy from both him and Machi! They will make you feel ultra welcome and comfortable. Once out on the water, I had Poke and Phi Phi jumping onto my board periodically which was a challenge with the high winds for that late afternoon, but it was overall quite the awesome experience! I was stoked to have Phi Phi on board as I paddled hard against winds back to shore, her hanging ten off the front of the board the entire way! Tyler took some pictures and videos of the event which he provided to us later through a Google Drive. Thank you SUP Dog Hawaii for quite the unique experience!

We had a great time! Tyler and Machi were wonderful instructors for my dog Hana and me. I love the outdoors, and my dog Hana is a swimmer. However, since it was the first time for both of us to do standup paddling, I was unsure at first if we could do it. We were able to relax while learning how to SUP board from Tyler and Machi, who are great teachers and have a passion for animals. We could relax while learning stand-up paddling in a safe environment. When Hana and I were paddling, I could sense that Hana trusted me, and I felt like our bond deepened more than ever. On top of that, I had a great time learning about some history of Hawaii while paddling. Definitely, give them a try if you want to paddle with your dog or if you want to paddle on your own.

I'm a newb when it comes to water sports and anything involving a board! I'm also prone to motion sickness and have a history with sea and ocean sickness LOL. I figured a lagoon wouldn't be too bad with learning how to paddle board for the first time, and throw in dogs that love water for a therapeutic effect.... that's my jam (Especially since I have some anxiety, and while on vacay this would combine learning a new skill while having fun). It sure did! I originally found J Tyler and SUP Dog on Airbnb and decided to book directly on his website for another day- if you're thinking about doing it go for it! Even if you're not new to SUP (stand up paddle boarding) , I'm sure you'd learn new skills or sharpen old ones if you'd like to try your luck on your own on the beaches of Waikiki, lanikai, etc. Plus if you love dogs, or are homesick and miss yours this would be a good fix. Highlights: -Learning about the dogs and learning to SUP IN HAWAII! The Duke lagoon at the Hilton Hawaiian village is a really pretty turquoise lagoon that's clear even while cloudy, it even rained a little during my lesson. -Beginner friendly -you learn basics and then apply them at your own pace - Tyler and the dogs are encouraging - No need to worry about taking pics, Tyler takes them for you - The lesson, equipment, dogs, and photos is a great value for this experience Tips: I parked in the Hilton parking garage, restaurants and businesses may validate. There's also a marina nearby that had a parking lot with access to the lagoon. You could try and check pricing there too.

I'll be honest people laughed when I mentioned going to a class to teach my dog to swim... most people are like, "just put 'em in the water and they'll swim!" Honestly, that was hard for me to accept and thank goodness SUP Dog Hawai'i was there to help! Here's how our journey unfolded... 7/1: What an incredible coincidence - we've been waiting for the opportunity to bring Taylor to the beach and play in the water but I was a littler nervous and was bummed to find there was no formal dog swimming classes... and just then BAM! I stumble on SUP dog Hawaii's Instagram post about swim training in Kailua! For sure I signed Taylor up and we were there! Tyler, the owner/instructor, was very calm and encouraging for Taylor and her new friends, Haley and Aiko. We weren't rushed and eventually we all made it to the water. 7/9: Next, we signed up for Dog Yoga.. I'm loving these opportunities to spend time with Taylor and yoga at Magic island sounded awesome! Taylor wasn't quite ready but she got to meet Phoenix, who is a bigger version of Taylor, and Taylor and I bonded with licks to my face the whole time. Tyler and Machi were nice enough to play with Taylor and help as we went through the practice. 7/15: Swim training, round 2! We signed up again last-minute but I thought that since it wasn't full we should go and try again. This time Phoenix and Haley were there to give Taylor confidence to run into the water! She also made a lot of progress and was able to swim back to shore! Needless to say it was great and she was tired and slept most of the day while I worked. 7/16: Doga round 2! Taylor was better behaved and it's always nice to spend time together. I will say that some this wasn't my favorite park... I think it's great though, that Tyler is testing it out at various locations... Thank you Sup Dog Hawaii for creating these opportunities for us to bond with our best friends.

Awesome time SUPing with James our guide! The dogs (Diamond, Dobbie, and Phoenix) were so cute and well trained on the paddle boards :) Would definitely do it again when in Haleiwa. Tyler the owner was awesome as well!

Paddle boarding fun with my dog, Ube !

Raquel C-I It's been awesome taking SUP dog lessons with Tyler and Machi. They are a wonderful and enthusiastic team. I was a little nervous to get my 55# pitbull Ube on with me on their paddleboard, but Tyler's confidence helped relax me and my dog. She was paddleboarding in only one session ! My sister and her family enjoyed the videos I sent them and they also want to try it when they visit from the mainland. I highly recommend this activity if you enjoy the ocean and have a dog. Aloha and have fun !

We had so much fun. Tyler and Machi were great hosts. Tyler was so patient with training. He set everything up for us and instructed us very thoroughly. Machi even grabs pics from your adventure. Two little cuties Phoenix and Dobbie were icing on the cake. Professionaly sup doggies. So smart so brave. Some tips: pack light, bring a friend to watch your stuff on the beach. Sunscreen sunscreen sunscreen!

Can't wait to do this again!!!

Wow! What a great experience for us and 7 month old Lexi! We all had a great time and Tyler was supportive and positive throughout our lesson! He is very patient and you can tell how he has a place in his heart for our fur babies!!

We had such a blast with SUPDog Hawaii! I love being outdoors but my dog Bodhi is quite the couch potato so when I came across their instagram you can imagine my excitement... an outdoor activity that only requires him to sit? Sign us up. With my dog coming in at 85lbs I worried we wouldn't be able to hold our balance, but we managed to stay dry the entire time. A lot of care was taken to introduce Bo to the board to be sure it was a positive experience and I immediately felt that Tyler had some training background. He a lot of patience for me, my dog, and my dog's sniffer (which tends to wander off mid-conversation.) Tyler stayed nearby the entire time we were on the water, providing guidance, tips, and fun facts about the area. The lesson ran a little long but I never felt rushed. I'm already looking forward to scheduling our next session! They provide the board, paddle, a life jacket for your dog, and some treats. I'd recommend bringing a treat pouch if you have one--this came in handy for us.

Paddle boarding with rescue dogs is one of the best experiences we had while in a while for our vacation. Tyler was amazing with my daughter, helping her to feel comfortable on the paddleboard. He also accommodated us when we had initially cancel due to unforeseen circumstances. He got us rescheduled and it was one of the best experiences we had on our trip. I would highly recommend this. It's an experience you just don't want to miss out on. How often do you get to paddleboard with doggies???

Running away, jumping, even pooping right in front of us... it got to the point where it just wasn't fun anymore. That's when we called Island Dog Obedience. Kristi was incredible from the start. She came to our home to meet Gigi, and soon after, Gigi was off to Kaneohe for training. It was hard being without her, and we wondered if anything would really change. Then came the daily photos--Gigi playing with other dogs, calmly sitting on her cot, and responding beautifully to Kristi's commands. It was amazing to see. When Gigi came home, we were hopeful but unsure. She greeted us with joyful zoomies, then quickly settled down and listened. We couldn't believe it--she was a completely different dog! Gigi is now the best little pug, and it's all thanks to Kristi. She was amazing, and at our house for over 2 hours making sure we understand how the e collar worked. It was a great day for all of us. with so much love and aloha, Jeri & Jerry Lynch

Kristi is truly one of a kind My boyfriend and I came to her desperate for help with our new pup, Kona, who struggled with severe anxiety. He was scared of pretty much everything -- people, new environments, being separated from us -- and we were also dealing with barking, basic obedience, and some unwanted behaviors. After just 4 sessions, the transformation has been unbelievable. Today was our final session, and I honestly wish I had a video of how Kona used to be so people could truly understand how far he's come. At the beginning, he wouldn't even go up to Kristi and was extremely hesitant and fearful whenever she took the leash. Now? He confidently walks up to her on his own terms -- calm, trusting, and self-assured. That alone speaks volumes. Kristi didn't just train Kona -- she guided us on how to train him the right way. She's patient, knowledgeable, supportive, and truly cares about both the dog and the owners. She sets you up for success, but it's important to note that the progress comes from continuing the work at home too -- and her guidance made that possible for us. We are beyond grateful for Kristi and everything she's done for our pup. If you're dealing with anxiety, fear, or behavioral issues and want real results, Island Dog Obedience is 100% worth it. I cannot recommend her enough!

We eventually decided on the basic 4-lesson training sessions, and we just completed our last one yesterday with Loren. Shout out to Loren for working so well with our Tank and Pepper!! First and foremost, you MUST be willing to practice reinforcing all the lessons you learn on your own time in between training sessions. It's like learning something once and then not doing your homework...would that work? Of course not. SOooooo.... my husband and I (mostly my husband), really put a lot of effort into doing our "homework" in between sessions with Loren. I mean, I wouldn't want to be the embarrassed parents who didn't help their children succeed, lol. Anywho, each training session was clear and had lots of scaffolding and repetition, so that our pups could succeed. There was plenty of explanation behind all the commands and corrections, so we knew how to handle our specific dogs. I think the personalization and customization was wonderful, and it makes me really happy to see that the trainer knew his stuff! Further, it was clear that he genuinely cared about each dog and his/her personality traits that makes each dog unique. During the 4-lesson basic package, Tank and Pepper learned sit (with duration and distance), place (with duration and distance), heel (still needs LOTS of practice), and down (with distance and duration). Now from here on out, it's about reinforcement, reinforcement, reinforcement.
