We did the unguided tour and it was great! There are a lot of lights to guide your way so I never felt lost at all. Of course, they do provide a whistle just in case. It was a lot of fun but those who get chilled easily may want to take a jacket or sweatshirt. I will do this again. read more

SUP Kentucky is adding to tourism and paddling in Kentucky - always a great thing to get more people outside and on the water! I know the owners also take pride in clean waterways and a healthy environment. We took a Mexico adventure with SUP Kentucky a few years ago. The price was reasonable and our family had a blast exploring waterfalls, zip lining, seeing the monarch reserves in winter, and experiencing authentic Mexican culture (not Cancun or the like). I found their knowledge of the area very helpful and safety was a priority in the middle of Mexico in the mountains where tourists typically don't seem to go. We LOVED the real Mexico, the markets, the churros, the handmade tortillas and guacamole, the nature, the people, and the secret places that the owners know because they had lived there for parts of the year for a long time. That knowledge was very valuable. As their first official abroad adventure, it was well planned with only a few minor hiccups (especially for the first one). It was very cold (we went in Jan), so plan and pack accordingly, but so worth it! The views and experience were epic and we hope to return some time. I'm also very excited about their new cabins and adventures in Red River Gorge. read more

SUP Kentucky runs a good operation, everything runs smoothly and professionally. Our kayak guides, Tyler and Chase, were friendly, extremely helpful and very tuned into the safety of everyone. The mine was big and somewhat interesting but probably not worth 90 minutes. Since it's man made there weren't a lot of unique points of interest, but it did have a cool vibe to it. I can't give it 5 stars because I personally feel it's a bit overpriced. It's chilly inside, I would recommend renting the neoprene gloves and socks. Make sure to take your own pictures because I guess ours taken by the guides didn't turn out and/or they didn't send them as promised. Sadly we have nothing to show. read more

Found this tour via Facebook. It was quite a ways off the beaten path but the area in Red River Gorge had lots of other hiking and activities to fill a day. Sign in was super easy and our guides were very informative during the trip. Be aware that tour feet (socks) will get wet and they will be cold! Only reason I gave a bit lower stars is it was really a slow paddle. I am much more accustomed to river or lake kayaking and this provided zero fitness. It was something different and enjoyable however. read more

Great experience! We took our family of 4 (two youngish teens) on the Cavern Glow trio and all agreed it was our most unique paddle experience yet. The water is super clear and the guides are both funny and informative. It's about 20-30 minutes outside Lexington but lots to do in the Red River Gorge once you are out there. Great experience with SUP Kentucky! We did the Cavern Glow tour as a family and it was a very unique experience and I am so glad we did it. I am a bit claustrophobic and so I was worried about how I would feel in the cave, but I was so in awe with the whole experience that it did not bother me at all! Tour guides were very nice. I felt safe the entire time and had complete trust in their skill and guidance. Some things to know: There are no bathrooms. It can get chilly inside the cavern. I wore leggings and a short sleeved shirt but definitely would've not wanted shorts. They do sell some snacks and drinks! They sell swim shirts and stickers with their logo. (We took some stickers for sure!) Tour guides will help you gear up with a PFD and helmet and do a short lesson on how to paddle properly. They will also help you onto your board. I would not describe this as "in Lexington" but definitely worth the drive! There is a very, very short walk to get to the boards and water in the cave. GoPros do not work very well in the cave. Phones are not needed for pictures. They will most likely end up at the bottom of the cave water. They will take pictures of you using their camera and post them to Facebook to share with no extra charge. I do not recommend bringing anything you don't have to. It will most likely just stress you out that it will fall into the water. My family is very inexperienced with paddle-boarding. We did perfectly fine and though we were scared we would, no one fell into the water:) Kentucky native or not, you must check out SUP Kentucky!! read more

This was a fun afternoon with the family. The guides have worked hard to make an old mine light and interesting. The front desk staff was sweet and very helpful. The kids loved the clear kayaks that light up. Lights are attached to the bottom of the kayaks to make each one glow. It is a great add on if you are in the Red River Gorge or Lexington area. However, I'm not sure I would tell someone it is with a 4 hour drive from Nashville. Still we had fun and have some fun pictures. Bring gloves and a heavier fleece ... and be sure to rent the neoprene socks ($1 pair). However, I would strongly encourage SUP KY to give their chief safety officer (the man with the Chihuahua) some interpersonal skills training. As an attorney, I appreciate the need to be aware of safety and to mitigate risk. But there is another way. This guy was ridiculous. When we got there, he totally barked at 2 12 year old girls who were patiently waiting for the tour to start by pretending to hunt for Geodes. He took the rock away from them and snarked that it was a perfect structural specimen that they were ruining. Did I mention that we are in a limestone rock mine? Then he came back to bark at one of the girls when she wanted to be in the clear kayak that was a little too large for her. If there is an issue, it needs to be addressed before the kid gets in the kayak. He was total overkill. (And she handled the kayak just fine thank you). THEN he started YELLING about how 5,000 lb boulders could fall down on you and sink the kayak and break your legs. We have tweens here- This is Ridiculous. What is the point of fear mongering kids??? And the piece de resistance.... as we were leaving, he was SHOUTING at a man who may have been approaching the weight limit for the crystal kayak. It can only be described as Fat Shaming. He was humiliating the man in front of his family. If there is an issue, there is a way to handle it - But not that way. The man was already in the kayak - and was made to get out of it in the most insulting of manners. To be clear, there is nothing strenuous about this activity ... Certainly not warranting the verbal assault that was predicated on that poor man. The upside of it all was the chief safety officer created some teachable moments for us with the kids...on how to act and not act... we role played ways that he could have handled the situations differently and achieved the same outcome. it was sad that that was the takeaway from our adventure at SUP KY and is what the kids will remember and talk about. The chief safety officer is the only reason I am not giving this review 5 stars. read more

What an incredible experience !!!! If you are ever in the red river gorge area this is a MUST !!! I have never been in a kayak before and was alittle nervous but this turned out to be one of the most amazing experiences ever !!! Everything gets sanitized helmets, life jackets , EVERYTHING so I felt very safe using it during covid . The guides we had were so awesome and informative Can't recall their names but we Loved the "Dad Jokes " !!! We did the Crystal clear kayaks and it was so cool seeing all of the HUGE rainbow trout in the water ! So much Fun !!!!! This is was such an organized and fun experience. They provide clear instructions on how to get there and it is easy to find. They have a little shop where you check in and can leave any small items that you don't want to leave in your but don't want to take with you. The store also has a lot of cool merch. You can rent water socks for $1 and we did not, but wish we did. The water was about 47 degrees and the cave is about 56, so it's ideal to have them because they ask you take off your shoes in the crystal clear kayaks. Our toes were a bit cold, but we weren't miserable. We had Jared and Katie on our tour and they were really great at explaining the history of the cavern, helping people in and out of the kayaks and managing the paddle boards. They provide life jackets, helmets, and headlamps, so all you really have to do is show up with a good attitude and you're good to go! The kayaks have seats for one or two people, so it's up to you how comfortable you are and how much freedom you want to paddle around with the guided tour. A guide is in the front, then everyone paddles behind with a guide in the back. They take pictures along the adventure and send them to you for free at the end. They also have a sanitizing station and port a potties! A really great intro to kayaking, a little Kentucky history, and just a cool time in a cavern. You paddle for about 45 min - hour depending on how fast your group gets through things. Definitely recommend. read more

To be truthful, I was petrified. I had never been stand up paddle boarding in my life. I was scared that I'd fall off multiple times, making a fool of myself, or worse. Well, I shouldn't have been have been worried in the least. I never went in the drink and I came away with an absolute love of paddleboarding. The SUP instructor, Aaron Koch, did some thorough dry land instructions and then we started in some shallow water where you could steady yourself with tree branches and the like, if you even needed to. The SUP boards they had were great! Nice and wide and not wobbly. Aaron talked us through the whole thing, calmly and cooly. Soon enough we were all paddling out into the lake at Jacobson Park in Lexington like we knew what we were doing. There was even some chop since it was windy, but that wasn't a problem. I wasn't nervous any more! We paddled around the lake for hours. Watching baby ducks following their mama and blue herons dip towards the surface. It was all very Zen like. It was a magnificent experience! I cannot wait to go again! Thanks to Aaron and Heather for making the whole experience non-threatening and easy and, most importantly, fun! All that time I spent worrying about falling and I didn't even get wet! read more
