My experience with SUP with Wade was a truly memorable experience. I told them it was my last day in Cali and I only had a few hours to fit this in. I spoke with Krista who said she would call me back in a few minutes to see see if she had an instructor. A cool, chilled out dude named Ryan gave me a call and told me it was most windy at lunchtime to we scheduled to meet at 4 pm for a 2 hour 1 on 1 lesson. The price was only $80 and well worth it. We spent about 10 minutes learning proper paddling technique in the parking lot. Then we went to the dock and practiced there. He gave me super precise instructions to ensure that I would not be achy by the end of our two hour lesson. He advised me on how to handle the wake from the boats and from the kayaks. If you've never done it before, I suggest taking a lesson. We went out in the marina at 4 and stayed out till 6. Sunset was about 440 so we were out in the sunset and the view was amazing. My fiancé and I were in town for a wedding at a nearby golf course and wanted to try our hand at Surfing. As a person from the Midwest and not of the build of a typical surfer and a bit older than the typical entry level surfer (35), I didn't have my hopes up on how far I would get in a day of lessons but after a day with Wade I was able to paddle into my own wave and stand up. The beach has small enough swells to get you up on your board but not too much for someone just starting out. Wade was very hands on and very helpful from learning how waves are created to the do's and don'ts of carrying your board and other tips and tricks you hope to get from someone with as much experience as Wade has. Wade had a lot of patience and you could tell he loved what he did. Booking was easy with Wade's wife Krista who was very nice and joined us for our lesson and helped my fiancé out. Paddle boarding is becoming popular in So Cal, so I thought I would give it a try. I've never surfed or even practiced yoga, not giving me the greatest start for balance. But Wade is an amazing teacher and very patient, even as I fell off the board a few times. He has an inner zen, and paddling through the calm mother's beach water is instantly calming too. There is something instantly addictive about it, and I now want to get my own board to master this sport on my own. (which, thanks to Wade, I feel I know enough to get practicing) I also appreciate Wade's ability to communicate, as I had to reschedule a couple of times, and he was very cool about it, I really appreciate that in todays business climate. Today, we took our first Stand-Up Paddle board lesson with Wade. Although I had rowing and kayak experience this was a new activity for me. My girlfriend Marilyn and her friend Judy who also took the lesson, were complete beginners to SUP. Wade was very patient with the girls as he explained the technique and nuances of paddle boarding. He also added some humor at the right moments as well as explaining the history of SUP. We had some additional questions before the class and Wade was very available by phone and email to answer our questions. As someone with no previous experience paddling, surfing, or anything similar, I can tell you Wade is a great teacher. He taught me the basics on dry land and I felt more than ready to go out and experience SUP. It was great! We had a great time and he was great at pointing out when I would forget about his lesson and start bending my arms (not supposed to do that!). It was a great way to get out on the water, get a workout, and join the sea lions close-up for play time. SO MUCH FUN!!! found Wade on Groupon and bought a lesson with my 7 year old who had been asking to try SUP. I was very surprised to hear we were the first San Pedro locals Wade had instructed at the Cabrillo Marina Location. Its such a fantastic spot for SUP I thought for sure the local residents would have caught on by now. If you have been thinking about it go do it, we both loved it ! In fact my Son enjoyed it so much I am signing him up for Wades first ever SUP kids summer day camp at the San Pedro Youth center in June. Wade is a great guy and makes the standup paddleboarding experience very fun. My sister and her 16 yearold daughter were in town, and my 16 yearold daughter and I wanted to take them to do something new and exciting but relaxing too. I got 5 stars for the day from my sister and niece, so thought it only fair that I give the 5 to Wade too! SUP with Wade is an experience I would highly recommend. What a unique way to experience the Marina and the Pacific Ocean, and what a great upper-body workout! I'd been paddleboarding before... so thought I knew what to do. Apparently not! After a lesson on the dock (learning the proper technique), we were out. Wade and Krista were great instructors/hosts.
