We stayed in room 138 on 11-12-2021.  The front desk was friendly and was able to give us the last first floor room. It was a standard Super 8 room, one of the better ones we've had - spacious, with a fridge and microwave, but no coffee - I think it's served in the lobby. The beds were comfortable and the shower hot, but the pressure could have been better. The night cost $98.93. Grade A Would stay again?  Yep. read more

Our family of four booked one night for a soccer tournament nearby. This gem is tucked away off the main road (no noisy traffic) with retro vibe upon pulling in. You can tell this is an older property that has been purchased and refurbished, and nicely done! A creek borders the property with a bridge walkway to one of the most desired eateries in Black Mountain. Staff was extremely friendly, professional, and helpful - made you feel like family upon arriving. We were asked several times in passing (if outside the room) if we were enjoying our stay, we're having any issues, or needed anything at all. (Courtesy goes a long way with us!) I also noticed, while in the lobby, that they must have an expansive security system, as each nook and cranny of the property seemed to be monitored live. This is always reassuring to a family traveling with children. Although we only stayed one night, it was a very pleasant experience and worth the value. The beds were extremely comfortable, bathroom was updated and worked very efficiently, and we loved having the mini fridge and microwave. A+ Customer Service! We rolled in from our out of state drive around 9pm, only to find that because we went through Agoda, they didn't have our reservation. This was an issue with Agoda and not the super 8. Alex at the front desk was super helpful in speaking with the Agoda agent and managed to get a non-refundable reservation refunded to my credit card. They were able to find a room for the evening and even helped us with a discount. Everyone we met there was super friendly, and you could tell it was a family establishment. Great customer service! I stayed here for one night, and had only one complaint. There was an incredibly loud noise that woke me up a time or two and continued during the day. It seemed above me, but I was on the top floor. Otherwise, I think improvements have definitely been made. I stayed in 222, and it was clean, everything worked correctly, the TV was new. Nothing was nasty or even unpleasant in my room. Of course it's old, and I didn't check out breakfast. But if i need to stay a night in Black Mountain, I won't hesitate to return for the $60 it cost me. read more

I could not stay at my home and desperately needed a place to sleep for one night only. I logged onto hotels.com to book a room and chose Super 8 by Wyndham because it had decent reviews, wasn't too far for me to drive and was affordable. I booked a room online and paid about $90 via PayPal. When I arrived at the Super 8 by Wyndham in Black Mountain, the woman behind the desk informed me that they do not book rooms to people who live within a 25 mile radius. What kind of rule is this?? Lots of people need rooms for lots of different reasons. It shouldn't matter if I live just down the road or on the other side of the country. AND this rule should be stated CLEARLY on their website and on Hotels.com- it was not. If it had been clear, I obviously wouldn't have paid the $90. I asked about how get my refund and the lady behind the counter told me to call hotels.com. I was upset. It had been a long and challenging day and the reason I needed the room was very personal. I began to leave and said something like "this is ridiculous." Because it was. The woman behind the counter commented on my "attitude" and said that this attitude is why locals aren't welcome. I looked at her and said that she had no idea how difficult my day had been, that I was upset and yes, I might have an "attitude," but that was because this felt devastating to me and reminded her again that she had no idea where I was coming from or what was going on with me. That woman displayed a true lack of compassion and was just plain rude. Recently I stayed here with a friend. The cleaning staff and groundskeeper were polite and friendly.The hotel was neat , clean and updated. The front desk staff are rude and unprofessional. My friend has stayed at this Super 8 for over fifteen years and never has been treated so disrespectful and belittled. That Indian girl that works the front desk needs learn or be taught the proper way of treating guest(since they pay part of her salary by staying there). Located at the corner of town, this quaint Super 8 is within easy walking distance of the downtown shops. It's nothing fancy but it has provided dependable lodging to me during the Black Mountain Sourwood Festival a dozen or so times over the past 15 years. It is also the most affordable hotel in town add around $55 per night. A room around back provides a beautiful view of the 7 Sisters Mountains and, around front, provides a view of a small pool in the middle of the property. There's an excellent Mexican restaurant out front also. Again it is pretty basic accommodations but due to its location alone and dependability over the years, I give it a solid 3 stars. The only other hotels in town charged twice as much. read more

I don't mind older places as long as they are clean. We took other reviewer's advice and looked at the room first... there are not a lot of choices in this area if you don't wish to spend a lot on a room, and this seemed clean so we took it. Also, you can walk into town from here. Our room was right in front of the stairwell on the bottom level. By the stairs was a trash can overflowing with garbage, and it stayed that way until the next day. The parking lot also was just dirty. The room itself was pretty clean, although we had one badly stained towel and the furniture was chipped. The bathroom sink faucet would shoot water sideways, and also had a leak underneath so the floor was always wet. The tub did not drain well at all; you ended up standing in soapy water. The breakfast was just not worth eating, and we didn't. We had a little orange juice and even that wasn't very good. The trash can here also was overflowing. The furnishings in the office and breakfast area are abysmal. Chipboard furniture that is sagging and coming apart. There were exactly 2 tables for patrons to have breakfast - don't ask me how they accommodate everyone when the place fills up in summer. Or maybe like us, no one eats there. My other complaint was we asked not only for a nonsmoking room, but to be far away from smoking rooms. And then we see on both sides of us, guys were outside smoking. This place is quite large and was mostly empty.... why these people didn't get smoking rooms was a mystery. We did not smell it in the room but was annoying to walk by nevertheless. We thought we would stay 4 nights but checked out after 2. The staff was pretty nice, but they don't all speak English. read more

Not good, not bad pretty much sums it up. I really enjoyed the picturesque stream that winds along the edge of the property as well as the easy access to downtown Black Mountain. It's a ten-minute walk at most. There's also a nice Mexican restaurant directly adjacent to the hotel. The room itself was clean and quiet, though definitely on the old and worn-out side of the spectrum. Comfortable bed, hot shower, helpful staff...if I were ever in the area, I would stay here again. Just don't expect the Hilton, and you'll be fine. read more

We stayed here on our way up to Boone, NC and it was rated 2 stars and pet friendly so we decided to give it a shot. The best thing I could say about this hotel was it had comfortable beds but that's it. It wasn't clean the breakfast was not very good the water was cloudy and I could go on. Gross is about all I can say. Room smelled like damp basement, but it was fairly clean. Needed paint job, new carpeting would have been nice. Had chain type lock on door, which doesn't make me feel too safe. Issue with toilet not flushing right and sink not draining. Carpet outside of rooms was wet from rain and people coming from pool, it is not carpet designed for outdoor use so it probably contributes to smell. It was in a somewhat sketchy area too. Friday morning after devastating house fire. My. My insurance company had made arrangements for us to stay at the Super 8 Motel for at least a week. Super super 8 management called to let me know that they would not allow locals to rent, after my insurance agency had already made arrangements for us. Thankfully the Hampton Inn in Black Mountain which is definitely a 5 star it's star, arranged for us to stay for 21 days until we could find a more permanent housing situation.. As a local I'm ashamed how the super eighthe super 8 handled our situation. I support our local businesses and establishments but I will never recommend or endorse any family friends or strangers for that matter to stay at the Super 8 Motel.Another life lesson: "you get what you pay for". I had stayed in this particular Super 8 Motel in July, and was less than , even for a cheap motel. Thankfully due to super 8's insensitivity we are not there! My family deserves so much better than a half star cheap motel.The Hampton Inn provides a hot breakfast with real food real coffee real juice every morning from 6 to 10, their staff is amazing, their amenities are top notch, and the facility is beautiful!As a local I am ashamed and embarrassed of the way the Super 8 Motel handled our situation. This is a beautiful place to live and what an ugly example of hospitality in a time of need. I'm unable ro post pics of my stay back in July, I will try again later to upload. I'm giving a 1 because they did refund our money. Hubs had stayed here in the past and it was clean. When we walked into the king room it was disgusting. Trash on the floor and on the bed. Rust going up the side of the mini fridge. When we went back to the desk they told us that they don't use those rooms so it might be dirty so they obviously are not cleaning them everyday or in prep of guests. Keep driving and find a cleaner place to stay. read more

I booked this place through Hotels.com. Once we arrived we discovered that this was a complete dump. I wouldn't allow my pets to stay in this place under ANY circumstances. I immediately cancelled my reservation and was assured that I would get a FULL REFUND from the hotel but they said I'd have to call HOTELS.COM to get my refund. I contacted HOTELS.COM and was on the phone with them for an hour. I was assured again that I would get a full refund. It's been three days and I haven't received a dime. BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN BOOKING HOTELS. DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOTEL EVER. Finally did get a complete refund from HOTELS.COM after 3 of 4 days. Top tip: when you select your hotel, read the total with fees and cleaning and everything before actually purchasing your room. read more

Yes, stinky with an A. - The room was damp and not just NC humid damp, but nasty armpit smelly damp. - There was a large wet spot near the bathroom. Don't even want to know. - Air freshener was "ode to toilet" and we're talking the real deal. One redeeming factor is that the free wi-fi is allowing me to write this review. Even for the cheap rate, stay away! Oh yeah, the other good thing is that we are here for only one night and total of about 10 hours. I have stayed here 2 or 3 times while waiting on Ingles to unload my trailer and never had a room like the others stated. If im not mistaken it did change owners a couple years back so maybe the previous mgmt didnt clean. The rooms could use an updating but each time they have been clean so thats all that matters to me. Rooms have a big flat screen tv, microwave, and refrigerator which is nice. So for $50 avg night price its perfect to grab a good nights sleep. read more

Not going back. The older man working the late shift, did not know how to process a chip credit card. Ran it twice, he claimed it was being declined. Tried another card on a different account, and he claimed it declined too. He demanded we go get cash from an ATM down the street. Which we did. A quick balance check showed here were plenty of funds in both accounts and we took out cash anyway. Once we paid the gentleman is cash we asked for a signed receipt to show that the bill was paid with cash, at which point he became angry and threw a pen down on the counter which bounced and hit me. He finally signed it after protesting and marked it paid in cash. The next day, the fraud department at both banks called and asked if we were staying in Black Mountain. Our cards had been attempted 3 more times, even though we paid cash. The man at the hotel was running the cards as a mag strip swipe, not chip, which caused the declines. We instructed the Banks to refuse the charges. Not sure what was going on there but it appeared as if the cash transaction was meant to be off the books or something, and he tried to get our card charged too. At a minimum he doesn't know the difference between chip cards and mag stripe cards. Will not stay there again and would advise others to avoid this place. read more

The price was very reasonable, the location was excellent in the quaint town of Black Mountain and the staff was friendly, polite and accommodating. I liked that there was a mini fridge and microwave in the room and outlets next to the beds. I was glad parts of the room were recently renovated (such as the bathroom and bed linens) however, the carpet just seemed grimy and didn't feel clean and the 1990's wallpaper border remained around the edge of the room. The beds were also tiny, barley big enough for 2 people in each bed (we are a family of 4). There was nowhere to hang anything. It would have been nice to have a little closet or at least a small table or fold-out luggage rack and a hanging rod in the alcove outside the bathroom. It was June and the pool was not open, which was a disappointment to the kids as this was one reason I picked this spot. Breakfast consisted of one pre-packaged muffin, a fruit cup or banana and orange juice or coffee. Seemed like this was more a spot for truck drivers and bikers than families or business travelers. The room smelled like stale cigarette smoke (I'm sensitive to it) and there were people everyday out smoking on the balcony in front of the rooms. Gave us a cheap place to stay for 2 nights, but I wouldn't recommend it or stay here again. read more

Don't stay here!! I wouldn't normally leave a review but feel compelled to do so this time. This was the quickest stay ever for me. When I first pulled in it was very sketchy. It looked like a gathering place for the homeless and drug addicts. There were a lot of people loitering in the parking lot drinking and smoking who knows what. Against my better judgement I decided it was only for the night. It was late and I was really tired from driving all day. When you first walk In the room you are hit with a strong musty odor. It smelled like a really old wet basement. The bathroom looked like it had never been cleaned before. There was years of scum on the shower, walls,doors and sink. Even the hair dryer and wall outlets were caked with scum. The furniture was so old and falling apart. There were missing handles on the dressers. The microwave looked like it walked right out of 1960. The mini fridge was also about 30 years old and smelled like it was moldy when you opened it. The bed skirts have never been washed. There was so many stains from food and god knows what else on them. The carpets were filthy and stained and even had gum stuck to them. There was even a large piece just laying over on the wrong side near the bathroom. The 1950's phone looked like it had never seen a clean day in its lifetime. Literally 1/4 inch of grime on it. And as an added bonus to this room, the amount of dirt and dust on the air conditioner and the ceiling vents. A real treat for your lungs!! The flat screen tv was very fuzzy and you couldn't really see the picture on it not to mention that the cords and stuff were laying on top of the dresser near the television. A great toy for the kids to play with. The sheets looked like it had blood spots on them. There wasn't even any lightbulbs in the lights. Another fun activity for the kiddos. And the best part about it. Roaches!!!! And lots of them. When I went to complain to the owner of this place he didn't believe me and wanted me to show him. So he's literally running back to my room saying cmon, cmon. Like the roaches are going to hurry up and pack their bags and leave or something. Then when we get back to the room I pull out a drawer and a roach runs across and he acts like he doesn't see it and pulls out his phone and points it at a piece of dirt and tells me I'm seeing things that there aren't any roaches on there. So then I pull out the bottom drawer completely and there was about 50 roaches. Dead and alive. So the owner then gets mad at me and tells me to leave and snatches the key from my hands. I asked for a receipt and then was verbally assaulted by this guy. He started yelling at me about my dog saying I didn't pay the $5.00 pet fee. I asked at check in if it was pet friendly and was told yes it was and that was the end of it. Well this guy is screaming saying I was trying to get out of paying the pet fee. I told him I'll pay it. Just give me the rest of the refund so I can get out of here. He then starts looking for a sign on the front desk while he is still yelling and becoming more and more agitated. He finally finds this little 2x2 sign in the corner that says there is a 5.00 fee per night per pet. He then shoves that sign in my face and almost hit me with it!!! Again, I say I'll pay the pet fee. Just refund me the rest. And he tells me to get out and leave. I just wanted my receipt for my refund. I knew if I didn't get it this guy was going to charge me anyways. So finally throws a receipt at me and tells me that I brought the roaches and made the room dirty. Like my 5 minutes of being there could accumulate that many years of dirt and grime and bring all those roaches. I wouldn't even want my dog to stay in this place not much less a person. So unless you want to bring home a family of cockroaches to join your own I wouldn't stay here. And I'm sure all that dust and dirt and grime has years and years of bacteria and disease on it. You would probably get meningitis staying here. And that's not an exaggeration. Do your self a favor and keep driving to a safer cleaner motel to stay at unless your looking to get sick and verbally assaulted by the owner. Not a bad place to stay when near Mount Mitchell State park. The motel is off the main road and therefore avoids the noisy traffic that passes through during the busy time of the day and year. My room was clean and the free breakfast was fine. I was disappointed in the Wifi, which sucked, but have nothing else about which I would complain. Super 8 was an inexpensive choice for the location and was near one of the most charming restaurants I've ever visited: Fresh Wood Fire Pizza (check that place out!) I would definitely revisit but request a room closer to the main lobby so that the Wifi is better. Can't miss for the price. read more

I like to stay at Super 8's generally. They usually provide what I need, a comfortable place to bed down and a hot shower in the morning. This one here though has really run its course. I'd say a high 3- it's obviously just a super 8 and while their amenities are nothing to write home about, the location, staff, and price make this a great option for anyone travelling in the area. At check in, the gentleman was so personable and friendly asking us about our race (we'd been in town for a Spartan Race) and he remembered us the next day when we were checking out and thanked us for visiting. The room was just fine, the pillows were very nice, thick, and soft, and the room was clean and didn't have any smells (it was NOTHING like the pics that some have posted on here, it didn't feel or look dirty at all). The location couldn't be beat, it's across the street from a few restaurants and bars, and a short walking distance (.5 mi) to the downtown area of Black Mountain. We slept through the continental breakfast, but it looked like cereals and bagels, but we did take advantage of the vending machines and there was a great variety of options. read more

Manager comes and sprays air freshener and expected me to keep room. After complaining again , we get moved to another less offensive ( but definitely smelled of cigs ) room. This place is a shithole. I only booked reservations b/c of their price and "breakfast". When we checked in, the room smelled damp, musty, and like a smoker had stayed before. Their version of breakfast is cereal, and white bread. They guarantee that you'll get the best price through them directly, but you won't. Their price was $15 more a night than kayak.com, or any of the other sites. We had ants and bugs all over the room. The only reason why I gave it two stars was the bed and sheets were clean and that's only b/c housekeeping was kind and gracious and changed it for me. Shop around for a cheaper, nicer hotel. For $74 a night it's actually a stellar "hotel". We stayed in room 131 with our pet dog ($5 pet fee). Our king bed was extremely comfortable. It felt like a Tempur-pedic I never got around to checking. Sheets were clean seemed new, carpet was new, big television, room came with a fridge and micro. Our bathroom was clean and we noticed our a/c was new as well. There is wifi at this hotel but front desk told us it wouldn't reach our room, they were right. All in all I'd definitely stay here again. The continental breakfast was the only flaw I'd say this super 8 has. I've had wonderful breakfasts from super 8's before from eggs and sausage to biscuits and gravy. Waffles and cereal is what you'll get here. No big deal though, head over to the Biscuit Company! 14 days on the road, this motel was the worst and most disgusting. Not a choice I made, but rather my companion. If I could rate it with a negative 10, I'd choose that. A tear down waiting to happen, our room had holes in the walls, leaks in the bathroom, dirty everything, including sex stained sheets complete with cigarette burn holes as a bonus. I used to enjoy staying at the Black Mountain Super 8 until this lady at the front desk started working there. She says her name is Melissa and she is the most unprofessional person I have ever dealt with at any hotel/motel!!!! She is rude and abrasive. She likes to blame customers for fictitious room issues not when they check out but the next time you come and then every time after that. As long as Melissa is at this Super 8 I will never stay there again which is a shame because everyone else that I have ever dealt with there was very nice and polite. If you happen to stay there, I would recommend taking pictures of your room before you leave! read more
