    Festive dining room

My wife and I had dinner here tonight and loved it. The food, cocktails, atmosphere and service was first class. My wife had the gnocchi and feta dish, I had the beef tenderloin and we shared appetizers and sides. Everything was delicious and Karoline took great care of us, making sure our drinks and food was served timely.

We are local residents and foodies. Check out the Feb. 2021 menu. It rotates periodically. The fried chicken dinner is not what you expect for here in NC......truly unique, unbelievable flavour. Also the Rabbit. Bar apps creative.....mushroom toast, pickled shrimp. Butternut squash soup. Charming location and decor. Friendly engaging staff and management. Cosy bar and patio. Plenty of parking, walk to Historic District.

    Complementary champagne

My husband and I just stayed there for the first time, and we LOVED it. The staff was very friendly and the place was beautiful. It's nestled in a quiet mountain town that is just a short distance away from the city of Asheville. The hotel is well appointed. Outside, there is pretty lighting everywhere. During your stay, you can sit out on the front porch in one of the rocking chairs, hang out or play a lawn game at their large gazebo, or relax in their comfy lobby. Upon arrival, we received two complementary glasses of champagne and went up to our 1937 Queen room to find a little box of Kilwin's truffles and a welcome note on our bed. The room was cozy, with a classic yet stylish feel. You can definitely get a sense of the history of the place, with its crystal doorknobs, crown moulding, hardwood floors in the bedroom and tile in the bathroom. I couldn't tell whether I felt more like I was in a cute boutique hotel or the comfy and familiar home of a relative. I was pleasantly surprised that you could control the thermostat in your room, which was great since I like to keep it nice and cool at night. The bed was definitely on the firm side, so if you prefer something with a bit more give, you may not like it as much, but it actually worked well with my bad back. I'm glad I brought my own pillow, though, because the ones that came with the room had no support. The chair and ottoman were very comfortable--a great reading spot. One thing I thought was an awesome idea, was that they had a designated washcloth for removing makeup. Every time I stay some place and have to use a nice white wash cloth, I always feel a little bad about getting my makeup all over it, so this was a nice touch. I also enjoyed the wall art displayed throughout the building, which were painted by what I assume are local artists, rather than the standard boring prints you see in all of the chain hotels. I really loved all of the little touches that make this place so unique. The first night we stayed there, we ate at Milton's; the food and drinks were superb. Our server, Caroline, was very friendly and attentive. We thought she was great! We ate out at the side patio, which was very pretty, but did get a little dark. However, we didn't really mind it and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The Monte Vista offers a continental breakfast, which is obviously not going to include a lot, but it's free, so you can't complain. It's served in their very nice garden room. I loved sipping my coffee and eating my breakfast in that natural light-filled space. Outside, in the back, they have more tables for dining, seating for lounging, and what appeared to be a fire pit or outdoor fireplace, which must be nice to light on cooler nights. There are dining tables inside as well and an indoor fireplace, but we didn't sit there during our stay. A few things to note: it is both a boutique and historic hotel. So, do not expect to find things like a TV, telephone, mini fridge, or coffee maker in your room--at least not in one of the 1937 rooms. You are also not going to find an elevator, swimming pool, or fitness center. If those are the kinds of things you are looking for, you will be disappointed. However, their website is transparent about what to expect, so I don't know why some commenters are so upset by it. On the other hand, if you want a relaxing getaway, great hospitality, delicious food, a charming atmosphere that has real character, and not just another cookie cutter establishment, this place should be on your travel list.

Recently my family celebrated my mother's 90th birthday we all congregated at the Monta Vista Hotel in Black Mountain North Carolina where the service was wonderful the restaurants food was great and nice little bar to gather at . we couldn't ask for a better location clean neat and a beautiful place to stay surrounded by the book the blue ridge mountains

    Unprofessional hotel!

Terrible experience!! I am in town for business and wanted to stay somewhere other than a chain hotel. I prefer small, local owned B and B's and Hotels. The staff was very unprofessional which caused me to check out after one night. When I walked in the door I was greeted by a gentleman who says to me, "what's up?" When I respond with, "I'm sorry, what did you say," the gentleman then says disingenuously, "I said good evening." This is less than what expect from a hotel's staff; maybe I expect too much. The next morning, I drive my car to the front of the building in order to get some complimentary continental breakfast. I walk in the front door and look for the food and I don't see it. I wait for the employee behind the front desk to finish a conversation with other guests and I ask where the continental breakfast was and she says, "it's in that room (pointing) but it's only for guests." To say nothing about the fact that she assumed I that I was not a guest, when informed her that I was she blamed me for not introducing myself as a guest! I ate, promptly gathered my things in my room and proceeded to check out. While checking out, I informed the employee the reason I was checking out early. She then said that I was, "thinking things about her that was not true." She never apologized, but had the unmitigated gall to tell me what was in my mind! PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!! Moving to Asheville to the Crowne Plaza Resort for better and more professional service.

We always book Hilton Brand hotels. It was cold and snowy and just such a pretty area. Upon arrival the desk clerk informed me this hotel had flooded all the way up to the ceiling on the first floor and a few amenities were not avail. Such as the Pool, fitness center and first floor rooms. They were just waiting on paint and some furniture and they would be good as new. Don't let that hinder your visit . Out of every single Hampton Inn I have ever stayed at ( which is a lot) this room was the most comfortable room. So nice and clean and the beds were so comfortable. Shower was nice and big. Everything appears to be brand new. Check this Hampton inn out. It's a 20 minute drive to Asheville and I highly recommend it. 10/10.

We have traveled throughout areas of the country and rarely see any hotel that has consistent 5 star reviews. However, this hotel does. We made our reservations online through the Hilton website and felt good about the price. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon after checking in on the Hilton app. We typically bypass the front desk since we utilize the digital key but we did stop in and chat with the woman at the front. The hotel appears to be very clean and well taken care of. In addition to assorted snacks and drinks they also have Black Mountain t-shirts, sweatshirts, stickers, etc. There is a nice outdoor patio with fire pit and indoor pool off of the lobby. We also learned there are free laundry facilities. Our room was located on the 3rd floor and was clean, comfortable, and spacious. We noticed three or four large tour buses in the parking lot when we arrived but we did not hear any of our neighbors over the course of the two nights. We would absolutely recommend staying here if you are in the area and we will likely be back as we continue to explore North Carolina.

Here are a few of my chief complaints: 1) There was no one to check me in when I arrived late after a long flight from California. After standing in the empty front room for a while, I saw a small sign saying to call a number to check in. I called twice before an insolent teen in sweatpants finally showed up to give me my key. 2) The inn adds a daily "tip" for room cleaning on top of an already high bill. (This is one of the more splurgey places to stay in the Black Mountain area.) If that wasn't rude enough, no one ever came by during my three-night stay to clean/tidy the room. The toilet bowl had dirt marks all over it when I showed up and there they stayed for the duration of my visit. No one made the bed. 3) Internet did not work. 4) Breakfast begins late -- at 8.30am -- because the chef has to take his five children to school. Seriously. So if you're staying there for work, as I was, you have to get breakfast elsewhere. That being said, after a lengthy argument with aforementioned insolent teen, the chef prepped me some breakfast items before he left for the night and left them in the fridge. That was very sweet of him.

The Inn's address given to me by AAA was (and still is) incomplete - which is the responsibility of the owner to maintain - and address given on Google was (and still is) incorrect. I was not able to find the establishment because of this negligence - I was navigated to the opposite side of town. I had to book a different hotel after a 10 hour drive and after an hour of trying to find this place in a random neighborhood. When I spoke to the owner on the phone the next morning (she wasn't answering my repeated calls at 8pm despite knowing her guest never arrived), she said she was aware of these issues, that other guests had the same problem I did, yet she had not taken measures to update her listings on AAA or Google - and was unwilling to give me a refund. She was also quite rude. Months later, I am seeing that the address has not been corrected by the owner for either online listing. Clearly the owner doesn't care if her would-be guests are inconvenienced or can't find the place, given that she has a "no refunds" policy. Other information on the Inn's AAA and Google listings was misleading and incorrect (there's actually a quite limited check-in time, breakfast is not offered, etc.), and if correct information had been provided I would not have booked with them to begin with. Agents with AAA attempted to reach the owner to tell her to update the information on the listing, too. Furthermore, when I was booking my alternate stay at a nearby hotel (Hampton Inn in Black Mountain - really nice stay, such nice people!), they said they've had other guests that booked with the Black Mountain Inn, took one step inside, and turned right back around! If anyone else runs into the same issue: file a dispute with your credit card company if possible. I made my case based on the aforementioned information, and they issued me a full refund.
