    The room
    Elina J.

Booked it based on proximity to Sequoia National Park. Checked in early evening and was surprised at cleanliness of this place. The room appears to have been newly renovated with new bedding, pillows, etc. Was in time to see the beautiful sunset from this property. The room was a good size, only thing old was the table and chairs, but it had a good fridge and microwave. It makes up for the lack of breakfast options. More on that later below. The next morning I was surprised at the lack of selection at breakfast. They had the following options. 1. Wheat or white sliced bread . 2. Shared jar of peanut butter. Yes, shared with everyone else at breakfast. I didn't bother taking my chances. 3. Single serve fruit jelly and butter packets. 4. Coffee, decaf or regular + creamer. 5. Hot water. 6. Orange juice from concentrate. 7. Packaged muffins, chocolate or poppy seed. I don't recommend it. So the next morning, I bought instant noodle and a can of sardines from the supermarket across the street. Clean hotel room was much more important than free breakfast.

    Nice pool

Really nice pool, it's either heated or heated from the sun. It's pleasant to swim in. The rooms are spacious, yet dated. The room was clean and included a fridge, separate freezer compartment and microwave. The only down side was it smelled: Either old, musky, or old Smokey. It was hard to tell. Either way we got used to it and slept well. Breakfast was free: Orange juice, coffee, toast (Peanut butter, jelly, butter), muffins, whole apples, It shares a parking lot with a Mexican restaurant and its close to town. I'd stay here again.

Power strip almost full across from bed. So they HAVE strips and need to put them next to beds.

Gal at checkin was super nice. We were in the handicapped room so this review applies only to that room. I'm trying to remember the number...maybe 115? This hotel should be ashamed of the lack of electrical outlets by the bed in an ADA handicapped accessible ROOM. I had to pull the mattress off the box spring to get to the ONE outlet behind the bed. And it was full with 2 bedside light plugs. So I had to unplug both the lights to plug in my charger AND my husbands OXYGEN CONCENTRATOR! Basically that leaves a handicapped person without bedside lights! Yes I have a flashlight on my phone, but what if I had a flip phone and I'm in a wheelchair? And are all the rooms like this? If outlets are an issue you'd better ask before checking in! This NEEDS to be SIMPLY mediated by mounting small power strips on each side of the bed. I'm lucky I'm able to walk and lift and push a mattress out of the way. If I were in a wheelchair I'd have to call the front desk and wait for someone to come and plug my charging cord and oxygen machine in for me. IF MANAGEMENT WILL NOTIFY ME AND SEND ME PICS SHOWING THAT THIS HAS BEEN DONE I WILL GLADLY RAISE MY RATING AND REMOVE SOME OF MY PICTURES. And when that is done they can move the alarm clock back next to the bed instead of next to the refrigerator across the room! Seriously...a handicapped person has to use an alarm across the room because there is no free outlet next to the bed...this is crazy. There really isn't much to this room to make it ADA handicapped. It does have lowered closet hanging and handrails at the tub but it is not a roll in or walk in shower. A person must be able to step into a tub with the aid of the handrails. BREAKFAST waffles are frozen toaster waffles! Not fresh made on a hot waffle iron! They have a few packaged cinnamon buns and cereals and orange juice. I wouldn't pick this place for a great breakfast deal! The beds here are not yet the Wyndham Beautyrests that I have raved about at another location. I came here hoping...sadly no. The mattress was a normal spring mattress. No pillowtop! But we slept fine. If I needed to be in this area again I'd return. If you find this review helpful please VOTE!

A giant olive from old Porterville High School in Super 8 parking lot. Great to take pictures with or just look at.

NW family with small doggie are third stay here. Maids are the best ever manager that runs the place gets an A+ and handyman. All office people great, except Melissa she does not understand "I am in a hurry". Pulled up in early afternoon for road to turn off Hwy 65 south to new Casino. She Melissa dusting lobby then told me just one minute and started on another coffee table. Asked her again to help me at desk look road I needed for a right turn 13 miles away. She answered yes then ran past me to answer phone to help anyone but me, I could not believe after 5 nights staying at Super 8 Motel and two more nights before leaving. I moved forward in Melissa's view and motioned hello. She did not stop talking and talking on phone. She was still talking on phone when I walked back in lobby. The maid down the hall knew the way to Eagle Mt. Casino I said. Then left the motel I was one-hour late, Melissa was busy, busy girl. Hwy 65 turn right on W. Scranton Ave. Left on West St. cannot miss it on left not even two blocks down.

    Very convenient

I recomended this place. The front hostess was very helpful and kind. Room was clean and a/c was cold. The beds were comfortable and pillows were soft. The tv was outdated bug it does the job, cartoon network is in the 30s i think for those that have kids. Breakfast was good in the morning they have waffles in the front office as well as cereal and other stuff. Will return here if im ever in the area again. Ps. I stayed in room 110 and the wifi was strong there

We decided to find an alternative place to stay for the night and during our search came across Best Western. Customer Service assisted us quickly and thankfully they had a room available for us. Reserving was quick and easy. When we arrived we checked in at the front desk--it also went quick and smooth, with no issues whatsoever. Pricing was fair for what we were getting and the room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Tv had plenty of channels to browse through, the bed was very comfortable and we had a great night's sleep. In the morning, before checking out, we went downstairs to their breakfast, included with our reservation, and it was basic, but good!! We filled up on waffles, eggs and sausage, though they also carry cereals, yogurt, bagels and other items. Overall had a wonderful experience here and would definitely come back!

It immediately set the tone for our stay. We arrived early from Los Angeles knowing check-in wasn't until 3 PM, and we had a wedding at 4 PM about 20 minutes away. The front desk let us know they'd try to get us in early but couldn't promise anything before around 2-2:30. Totally understandable! We headed over to Denny's for a quick bite, came back around 1 PM, and to our surprise, our room was ready! And what a room it was, beautiful and very spacious. The beds weren't crammed together, there was plenty of room for clothes and suitcases, plus a closet, bar area, Keurig, microwave, and refrigerator. The bathroom was also impressively large, perfect for two women getting ready at the same time without bumping into each other. Breakfast the next morning was another highlight, honestly, way better than expected! Eggs, sausage, turkey sausage, potatoes, bagels, muffins, yogurt, juice, pancakes, you name it. Even cereal! I wish I had taken pictures. A huge shoutout to Sadie at the front desk, she helped us at both check-in and check-out and was so kind, friendly, and professional. Truly outstanding service. A million gold stars! If she's not already a manager, she absolutely should be. Thank you for such a wonderful stay. I felt secure as well as my vehicle. The walls were thick enough to muffle the sounds of the crying toddler next door and stomping children in the room above. Lucky me. The rooms were modern and updated, aesthetically beautiful. Clean. Lots of USB charging ports. Relaxing vibe. My room had two queen beds. The mattress was medium- not firm and not sink in soft. The room included a microwave, safe, fridge, microwave, ironing board, iron, tv, K cup machine with coffee K cups, tea bags, disposable cups/lids. The room setup also included a closet, with hangers, clothes drawers, desk, office chair, and lounge chair. The bathroom water pressure was great. The water heated up quickly. They use unscented Dove products. T The pricing is on the higher end. But that's HIE for you. Comparable pricing to other HIEs. The hotel amenities include an outdoor swimming pool and hot tub, fitness center, work computer center, free WiFi, clothes washers/dryers ( not complimentary), and filtered water machine next to the fitness center. The elevator is tiny. It seems to barely hold three adults with luggage and that's standing cozily next to each other. The fitness center is small. It has two treadmills, elliptical, and free weights. The lounge area also serves as the breakfast dining area. It has a TV and hot coffee, hot water, tea bags, and hot cocoa packets are complimentary throughout the day in the lounge. Free breakfast included. It was quite a spread. + Pancake - self serve machine + bite size muffins (banana nut, choco chip) + slices of bread (white, wheat, wheat English muffin) + bagels (3 different kind) + fruit: bananas and apples + cinnamon rolls + cereal: Raisin Bran, Frosted Flakes, Kellogg's red berries + instant oatmeal packets + mini egg and cheese Omelettes + bacon + sausage patties + biscuits and gravy + hard boiled eggs ( refrigerated) + juice machine: cranberry and OJ + whole milk and almond milk + coffee I was able to choose plenty of items to eat that avoided dairy and HFCS. Plus shout out to the breakfast attendant, he was busy working. Non stop. Cooking more hot items to refill. Cleaning the dining, food service , and food prep areas. Sanitizing in between. Doing this all very quietly, could barely notice he was there. Efficient and stealthy. All within walking distance is a gas station and mini mart across the side street, Dennys across the parking lot, and Aldi grocery store and eateries across the main 190.

The rooms are always clean, the Elderwood is an ice touch, and the vibe is always fun. During this trip, all was fine when what sounded like the HVAC system above our room started to knock. It's an old historic building so, things happen. The knocking though quickly turned into a roar. We contacted the front desk and this is where the true professionalism of the hotel crew, and particularly Maria, shined through. Maria quickly came upstairs, assessed the situation, triaged with other teams inside the hotel, and identified a solution within 20 minutes. Given the scope of the repair was unclear at the time, she moved us to another room and even upgraded us (even though she didn't have to!) for the inconvenience. Things happen, that's not an issue for us, it's how the team addresses them when they come up. The Darling team rose to the occasion with flying colors so seamlessly in this situation, especially Maria. So for us, just underscores a series of positive experiences at the hotel. This isn't an ultra luxury 5-star hotel, so don't come here expecting that.
