However, our stay here was so amazing that it hasn't left our minds. So, the "bed" part of bed and breakfast? So comfortable! The rooms were amazing and had such a sense of history. The rooms were very spacious and beautifully decorated. Vintage wallpaper and bed dressings give you the full effect of traveling in time to a bygone era. The showers and bathtubs were great. The tubs were the claw foot standalone type tubs and not the typical Home Depo special you get in motels and hotels. There's just something about showering in one of those tubs that takes you back. However if you want to use them, there are indeed wonderful modern jacuzzis available in the rooms as well which are super relaxing after a day of walking around and sightseeing and shopping. Things were very comfortable inside despite it being very hot and so humid outside. And there were extra fans if you needed them and you wanted to stay cooler too. The furniture is actual wood and not the cheap particle board stuff used with in so many places today. The wood just feels "rich and elegant." From the outside, you get such a sense of history. The place is absolutely beautiful. Now... the "breakfast" part of bed and breakfast was so filling. You will eat like you've never eaten before and will want more but won't have the space to put it. I wish we could have stayed an extra day even just for the food. The owner asks about your preferences and needs and does such a great job with the food. She makes a killer sweet tea as well! The place was remarkably maintained and the owner was so welcoming. She felt like a family member we haven't seen in so long, like a grandmother to us and our kids. She was super flexible about the check in and check out times as well, enabling us to get a quick shower in before leaving so that after sight seeing we didn't need to sit in our sweaty clothes for the next leg of the trip. We so much wanted to stay longer! It was such a great experience there is no doubt that we will stay here every time we come to Metropolis. Oh and I should mention that when you stay here, you do get admission to the Superman museum included in the cost which is just icing on the cake. So really, why are you still reading? Book a stay. After we settled in our room, we decided to check out the lobby area for a little. They have a little market, which is oddly placed behind the front desk counter. We grabbed a couple of beers and decided to sit at one of the tables to relax. The front desk person came up to us after he was done assisting all these other people and informed us the beers were on him. I thought that was so kind! When we returned from dinner, we decided to grab some beers and sit in the lobby again. There was a different front desk person but we did not interact with her as much due to her being in the back. The hotel overall gives an outdated vibe-in the room and lobby. We did make it for breakfast and there was a decent selection of items. Unfortunately, when I was attempting to grab another cup of coffee when I was done with breakfast, the canister was empty. Someone asked a staff member about putting a fresh container of coffee out and she went to brew it immediately. It still took about 15 minutes but we appreciated the immediate assistance. It was not done in vain because there was four of us waiting. I did not use the shower because the shower had mold and some parts did not look safe or clean. Like I said, a renovation definitely needs to happen here. The staff were great in all experiences. I even made it a point to compliment the front desk woman in the morning because she was dealing with several rude assholes and she did not deserve that.

When I went to get up I got a Horrible Charlie horse in my inner thigh rendering me unable to stand up or walk. My husband ran to the front desk asking for mustard packets. Destiny was on staff and quickly handed him some packets without any explanation. She asked if he needed catsup too and he hastily replied no as he hurried back to our room. A previous experience had a retired nurse giving me mustard as a Charlie horse remedy. Believe it or not it works. I also use smart Water and usually keep some bedside but did not have any with me in the hotel. After I got through the ordeal my husband went back to the front desk to let Destiny know he was t trying to be rude but was in a hurry and explained to her why. Sadly she stated that a lot of people are rude to her. I found her very kind and pleasant as she complimented me when we were checking in earlier. A light was on in our room upon entry which made us feel welcomed as they were awaiting arrival.

The bed skirt had stains, the walls had splashes of who-knows-what, and the floor hadn't been swept or vacuumed. Even under the sink looked like it hadn't been touched in ages. The front desk staff member was kind and let us view another room, 320. It was just as bad plus stink bugs scattered around. There were also suspicious people hanging around the hallway, and at that point we knew we weren't staying. We left and drove two hours to Nashville in the middle of the night just to get a clean, safe hotel. Later, when I realized my key fob was missing, I was told someone would call after checking the room. No one ever did. I called over seven times with no answer. When I finally reached someone, he told me to call back the next day because "other customers come first," even after I explained I was literally driving through the town on my way home. This was hands down the worst hotel experience I've ever had. This entire experience fell far below what guests should expect. Cleanliness, safety, and basic customer service were all lacking. I hope management takes this seriously and addresses the cleanliness protocols, room inspections, and communication practices so future travelers don't experience the same issues.
