We booked three nights at this Holiday Inn and only stayed two. The first night we were there our air-conditioning would not cool our room below 74°. Staff came up and halfway resolved the issue to wear by the time the morning came our room had cooled down. That was also the night that we found a venomous spider in our room, a fiddleback, and killed it. When we addressed this with staff the next day, they were very apologetic and gave us 5000 points which we appreciate appreciated . However, the air-conditioning could not keep the room cool. This might have to do with the fact that the common areas of the hotel seemed as though they were all 78° or higher. I do believe they were having issues with the air-conditioning units as they had very large fans and several of the hallways in common areas We were also concerned about the security latch in our room on the main door because it did not seem to stay the way it should've been to maintain our safety . I think perhaps the rooms have been updated recently, but the way the furniture was configured as well as a small bathroom was and the fact that the door swung into the bathroom was insanely inconvenient and required lots of personal maneuvering to use facilities and get in and out of the room. This was the third hotel we have stayed at on our trip . It was The worst of all three. There were several other things I could mention. (not enough seat at breakfast, juice, fairy water down, water fountain is not readily available, and the ones that were scored in water out on my clothes. Not the best location. The hotel wasn't extra clean, the floors weren't straight, ie bumps and dips. There were a couple poorly done updates. Front desk staff was nice. Before leaving in the morning, my family went to the car, I stayed back to check the room and use the bathroom. I put the do not disturb card on the door but the cleaning crew came in anyway. It was 9 am, check out is 11. The pool was good for the kids. But the hot tub didn't work. The room smelled bad like someone trying to cover up something. The bathroom was tiny and in bad shape. Stopped on our way from Florida. 13 hours in and check into our first room where it smelt moldy and there were disgusting whitish crusty stains on the one bed. We went to the front desk to request a new room. Second room smelt better but as I went to check the sheets and an ant crawled across the pillow. The room had stuff on the floors like it wasn't vacuumed. We tried to ignore the ant thinking it was just one until my daughter had one crawl over her in the bed and my son and I saw a bug fly into the light by the bed. We tried to just go to sleep since we had a long drive the next day when suddenly I got bit by an ant under the covers of the other bed! At this point I was done, the kids were asking just to sleep in the car. I went to the front desk and the guy convinced me to try another room. When we walked into the 3rd room it smelt damp. I pulled back the covers right away to check for stains and ants, to find a dirty tissue under the top blanket. We went to the front desk and let them know we were leaving. I would never stay at this hotel, or recommend it to anyone, well maybe my worst enemy! Absolutely disgusting, obviously they are not changing the sheets, just remaking the bed. I've stayed here 3 times over the last few weeks and will keep coming back when I'm in the area for business. The front desk staff are always nice. Good breakfast spread in the morning, and the rooms are updated to current holiday inn express standard. Nothing fancy and your expected HI experience. Plus the price can't be beat considering Paducah hotels 5 minutes down the road are $30-$40 more expensive per night! My only complaint is the very slow elevator. I took the stairs a lot but I don't mind that at all. read more

This was very good. Staff was excellent. Pool and exercise room great. Breakfast buffet much better than average, with hot cheese omelets, biscuits, and stuff for meat lovers. A few nit picks, as the biscuits were burned both days, but there were English muffins. The orange juice from the machine was very watery, so it takes a lot of orange juice. Coffee a bit weak. I stayed here a few months ago and the place was great. The staff was pleasant and rooms were nice as this building is pretty new. It sets close enough to grocery stores, gas stations, or restaurants that you don't have to go to far off the path to find them. It sets not to far from a park if you want to do a walk. As far as HI Express hotels goes, this location was fairly good. Although the room seems smaller than others it did the job. The one downfall was the in room coffee. The Kuerig coffee maker only had decaf cups. When I travel I started to pack my own K cups since the chain coffee is not the best. read more

Booked this hotel for a post Eclipse stay. I suppose when I think of a Holiday Inn Express, I find it comparable to say, a Hampton Inn (a top amenity being that they offer a complimentary hot breakfast.) So walking in I see banquet tables set up in the lobby, and I'm assuming that I Mr was needed for breakfast that morning due to a possible sold out status for Exlipse chasers. But seeing as how it's evening, it might be best to store them until they are needed in the next morning. Was given a room on the 2nd floor, across from the elevator. Now being a previous industry manager, I can only wonder if this falls under the "you booked under a third party so you get what you get logic? Get into the room, and it's just "odd." A lot of space in the entry. Walking further in, there's a king sized bed, but then there's a lot of unused space with one chair. The furnishings were certainly dated. Looking in the room, there are two small night stands, however one is more in a corner than actually next to the bed. The Room honestly gave me the "used to be be two Doubles and was converted to one King" vibe. If you're going to have that much unused space, consider a small couch/pull out and add a small coffee table or ottoman, and you have a "Larger King Suite" that will equate to possibly more revenue. (Just a thought.) The room is also in need of more outlets or a tech friendly upgrade. I needed to unplug the impractical clock radio in order to plug in my charger for my phone. The AC had a weird interval cycle, but also no wall controls for that. TV could've been slightly bigger, but the DirectTV was decent. Now, you have a microwave and a Keurig in the room sitting directly next to the tv. The Keurig is a step to improving the room but almost a step back. It's time to accept the trends of traveling. Your site say refrigerators are "available upon request." Translation: you barely have 5 total? With the way people have vastly varying diets, you need to have these in each room. It's an industry standard, forget brand standards, especially if you're a franchise property. Now, I went to get the luggage rack, except that was holding the iron with the ironing board leaning on it. I assumed that was or is supposed to be a the space intended to hang clothes, except, there was no bar or top shelf. Outlets and a light are installed, just nowhere to hang clothes? The iron and board need to to be secured on respective wall mounted racks. The bathroom, what is going on here? Your amenities, Bath&Body Works products, were just there, on the counter. No display, no tray. And if you're gonna use body wash and not offer shampoo, you should invest in the small Loofahs. The marble counter top, though nice, was just a bad piece of marble. Rough abrasive spots, and industrial glue still on it. The tub was chopped and had a label still stuck to the inside. And no shelf to put your products. Your required ADA bar looked like an afterthought. The curtains need to be be redone too. Your light blockers won't meet or even overlap, defeating the purpose of blocking light, they also cover the AC vent, so your pushing the curtains up into the window. Now I was hoping for a Sundry shop with quick grab and go options I could take to my room, but nothing. Again a easy money grab for the hotels revenue. The snack machine was cash only, and I don't carry cash, so that wasn't an option. Also, I must've had someone above me that missed the class on walking lightly. My room shook with every step they took. The reason this review gets a 1, is for the breakfast. Decent offerings, and the woman who attends to the breakfast was really friendly. 3rd star is for convenience and it's definitely cheaper here than Paducah hotels. However, overall I'm unhappy with the stay because the room has a very strange odor that resembles the combination of old smoke and mildew. I'm 32 weeks pregnant with a toddler on my own and too tired to go back downstairs and ask for another room even though my nose hurts. The staff seemed stressed out so far. We did get a fair price and the two beds that we asked for, however over all unimpressed. Also very few restaurants nearby however we did get excellent and speedy service from the local Pizza Hut. On The outside the hotel appears new but inside something is off. Maybe it's old or needs a Rennovaton or no TLC is given to it on a regular basis. I always stay at IHG properties because I'm military but not so sure about this one. read more

This would be my 7th Holiday Inn I have stayed in over the last 4 weeks, and most are fairly decent, but I was very disappointed in the Metropolis, Illinois location. Upon arrival the desk welcome could have been better but we'll overlook that. When we walked in the room all looked good until we went into the bathroom. Somewhere between when the room was supposed to be cleaned and COVID sanitized, someone came in and did some caulking around the toilet and shower leaving caulking on the toilet seat and using a towel to wipe off his caulk tube. So, with that said, we had to use another towel to wipe off the seat and get it off our hands. Next morning I relayed what had happened and the lady at the desk acted like she could care less. The rooms seemed a little small, our AC didn't really work, there is no hand soap in the bathrooms not even a bar of soap and they don't check the soaps in the shower to see if they have anything in them. My 11 month old only walked around in the room on the carpet and his feet were completely filthy. Going to suggest them to clean their carpets. There was small ants all over our nightstand and some even in our beds. They had very limited breakfast and when they ran out they didn't make anymore. Staying here has been a terrible experience. First we where not warned of the construction happening here until we arrived or that the pool was closed. Next the "remodeled rooms" had windows that looked to be rotting from mold. The nail in the coffin would be the construction work happening right outside our room up and until 9:30 at night. We stayed on the second floor. The floors in the hall were dirty but, there was construction ongoing. The room was nice and comfortable. The bathroom needed some work. One of the shelves in the shower was unstable and the toilet made noise every time you sat down and got up. The breakfast was not desirable, absolutely the worst breakfast I have ever seen for a Holiday Inn Express. Offering nothing but pastries, dry cereal, and under cooked sausage and greasy ham is not a good breakfast. The eggs were okay. No wheat bread, no waffles. Clean, safe and easy access to the highway. Rooms are decent. Newly renovated, but not complete as of Sept. 17'. Not disturbing at all. Very quiet and breakfast was typical items. Three star because the renovation is not complete in the rooms that are open. No hair dryer, no shower shelf, no where to hang clothes and no dresser. I would figure a million dollar, the renovation would be ALL new. But if your looking for a decent stay for a couple days it's a good place. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. After driving for 11 hours, we arrived to discover that the employee I spoke with on January 8th to book our stay did not complete the booking so there was no reservation for us. The employee who was working, John, was very unhelpful in trying to help us find other arrangements. Our family was there for a softball tournament and we needed to get our player to bed and rested. We were fortunate that one of our teammates parents called around to a few places and found us somewhere that had a room available. This was almost an hour after we arrived and were basically ignored by the staff working. I completely understand mistakes happening, but I've worked in customer service for nearly 30 years and I have never ignored a person the way we were ignored, had I, I would've lost my job. We cannot recommend this hotel because it was much less than what we expected. The staff was very friendly but the building itself is tired. The door lock didn't work properly, the toilet seat was broken and the sink was cracked. The owner should spend a little money and fix what's broken.
