He scanned our ticket and we boarded. The bus was pretty full, so we ended up sitting separately. The above head storage bins are kind of tight, so I had to take something out of my over stuffed backpack to manage to wiggle it in. While my purse sat on my lap. I liked the foot rest and the hook on the handle on the seat in front of me. Trash bags were hung here and there. Looks like they also provided small bottles of water for us, though we had to grab those ourselves. The electric plugs didn't seem to work, but perhaps the ubs plugs in the ceiling did. Our driver was a great communicator. He set expectations so we knew that we had a 20 min rest stop before arriving at Baltimore, and pointed out things to help us to pay attention and to get back to the right bus. He warned us that given current construction that we were sure to arrive later than what our tickets said, and gave us his best eta given the circumstances. Another passenger later commented that the bus bathroom was clean. We kind of ended up being dropped off on a brightly painted bridge in the middle of no where - perhaps on Maryland Ave?, by a bus stop. A short walk from Penn Station.

When we contacted customer service, we were told the bus had already left at 7:47 PM, which is simply not consistent with what we experienced. Instead of investigating the situation or showing any empathy, customer service insisted the bus had departed and refused to offer a refund or any meaningful resolution. It's extremely frustrating to be told we missed a bus that never appeared while we were waiting at the designated pickup location. Reliable service and responsive customer support are essential for travelers. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this service and hope the company improves both its bus tracking and customer service processes.

What I mean by that is that they have a sense of entitlement where they think they can take up 2 seats and not let their fellow passengers sit down next to them. Definitely better than the subway though. I often times will take the BM4 or BM1 even though it's not that convenient and drops me off quite a distance from my apartment. The trade-off is my fellow passengers are much more considerate, and overall it's a much more pleasant ride.

In the hot weather, there's not always enough space in the shade to wait outside of the sun.

But the A is actually 6 annoying, litter-strewn blocks away and the A at 830 in the morning is NOT delightful. So I set off the find alternate ways to get places, which having moved from from the Clinton Hill/Bed-Stuy Border (como se dice "train-free" en espagnol), is now a specialty of mine. I discover that walking up Nostrand several blocks brings me to a 3 train, which is convenient, but I find myself feeling scowly for having to go further away from my house first in order to get closer to the city. THEN in an unprecedented turn of events, I was hanging out at the famed Starlite Lounge on Bergen when a bus whooshed by. And it was going...towards downtown! I had found my new love. I'm sorry B38 Limited, you've been replaced (still a sexy second though, dohn worry). Now, the B65, like any NYC MTA bus does have its drawbacks, the most prominent being (as the esteemed Mo P mentioned) sometimes....it just doesn't come. I don't know why. Maybe when the driver calls out sick, they just don't replace him? Maybe there is a traffic jam? I know not. But still, I wait. I refuse to give in. I am a bus loyalist (my girlfriend wants to kill me sometimes though. "But the train's right THERE." She just doesn't understand). My morning commute now consists of me walking one stop to the B65, waiting five minutes while staring at the Starlite looking for signs of life or wondering what building Mo P lives in, reading my book on a comfortably full bus ride, then hopping on the 2/3 at Bergen to get me to Court and Montague. Average trip door-to-door: 25 minutes.

As I'm writing this review, there is dirty water from a busted air-con system dripping on my shoulder. And it's not only me: a woman two rows in front of me is draped in a towel, three rows in front of her a couple is trying to plug a leak with their own sweater, and the driver's seat is completely soaked. Four seats are roped off and plastic bags filled with brown water are suspended from the ceiling. Apart from the broken air con, the smell of the bathroom is permeating throughout the bus. I've travelled in the 3rd world and I don't mind roughing it out when I have to - but this just isn't worth it. I'm amazed at the number of 3 star reviews for this company. I'll give them zero to one. I've had great experiences with "Apex" (from NY to Philadelphia) and am not opposed to Chinatown buses as a way to get from one place to another. Help me to boycott Lucky Star an maybe they'll change their ways (...and fix their broken air conditioner!). This review isn't exaggerating anything at all. Please stay away from Lucky Star. (Addition from Boston: we made it but my bag, which was in the overhead compartment inside the bus, was soaked with water - getting half of my clothes wet. The floors were wooden, the seats leather, and the bathroom actually useable without cringing and holding your nose lmao. Despite how amazing the service, and how nice the bus is, people are still gross, so I would recommend bringing wipes and hand sanitizer.
