I enjoyed the freshness of the food. The varieties in coffee BUT they only use 2% milk and some of us are lactose intolerant. Would love to be able or enjoy specialty coffee otherwise. I try to support local- super cream, but this restaurant keeps disappointing. They ALWAYS take forever to seat all clients, they look at clients with no care. The food takes forever and is relatively expensive compared to local competition. Tables and chairs are consistently dirty and wet. I don't know how my husband found the place but he did and we're glad. We stopped by on our last business trip to the RGV. The place is cute, modern, clean. We greeted immediately and seated quickly thereafter. The female server was adorable and sweet and took our drink order right away. Served with our drinks was a small platter of chips, two salsas and some pickled carrots. The chips were so tasty. Full of seeds. The salsas were spicy and delicious. I could have eaten them all night in place of my meal if I didn't think we'd have been kicked out eventually. We ordered two tortas - one spicy pork, one... bistec? I think? I don't remember, honestly. My husband ordered the tricolored enichiladas as well. (Which, come to think of it now, I didn't ever get to try). The food, admittedly, did take some time to be served. Not horribly long but long enough that we noticed. Once we received our dinner though, we were not displeased. Everything was tasty, very well seasoned. I preferred my husband's spicy pork torta to my own bistec (simply because it was spicy). He polished off his enchiladas before I could get my fork into one or three. After dinner, we decided to try out some of the baked goods and went to the counter to order. The counter servers were wonderful, friendly and more than willing to answer any questions I had about the sweets. We ordered the chocolate, the lemon meringue and raspberry cheesecakes. They were all so...SO GOOD. In the end, while the service is a bit slow, I don't think it was nearly (in our experience) as bad as some of the reviews say? If you're in it for the food, go! My husband and I come here fairly often for authentic Mexican food. The menu provides a good variety of Mexican food selections. The food is always very good. The reviews are mixed and so was our experience, but I'd say about 3 stars is pretty accurate; it was alright. The menu was pretty extensive and, considering this is a chain restaurant from Mexico, I was surprised that both the menu and signs in the restroom were in english, especially after the bad review by another Yelper. ("Southern thang" my ass; the term is "redneck.") The chips and salsa had a nice taste. The chips were a little different and had sesame seeds in them. Loved the red salsa. Didn't care for the caldo tlapeno at all. The broth was overly salty and had a weird acidic taste. The chipotle chiles were served on the side, which I guess is okay if you want to adjust the spiciness to your level (who orders a soup seasoned with chipotle chiles if they don't want it spicy?) It did have lots of shredded chicken (did I mention how much I detest shredded chicken?), but I didn't care for the veggies (peas, potatoes and carrots). The BF got a chicken/shrimp fajita thing served with a baked potato and he liked it. They were out of shrimp though so they subbed chicken, but at least they gave us the option; a lot of restaurants in this area would have just left it out completely, so that was nice that they asked. It was served on a hot comal, but I was surprised that it didn't come with tortillas or anything. The meat was pretty good, but wasn't great. Again, it had kind of a weird taste that I just couldn't pinpoint. The baked potato was actually more like a twice baked potato - insides removed, mashed, seasoned, mixed with something (little pieces of ham maybe?) and replaced. It would have been nice if that would have been mentioned on the menu as some people don't care for pork. We both had limonada and it was good and refills were included. We shared a piece of chocolate cake that was a little too choclately for the BF, but I liked it. All in all it was an okay experience and we might return. This location is clean, colorful and the environment is friendly. Tip: handicap parking is available, however there is no ramp unto the sidewalk. Therefore need to walk on the parking lot instead of sidewalk before going up to the main entrance. The traditional food items are all here! The mini pies are as good as I remember them to be. My enchiladas Suizas had plenty of chicken, but they were just ok. They were served at almost room temperature. My mother's Caldo Tlalpeno was just the right size (small). It was a perfect size meal for her with plenty of chicken and the right amount of veggies. My dad's sope looked and tasted amazing! Unfortunately they got his order wrong (brought chicken instead of shredded beef) and by the time they brought to him what he ordered - my mom and I were pretty much done with our meal. The bathroom were clean, well stocked with toilet paper, but the dispenser for toilet sit covets was empty. We are 1st timers and we weren't amazed as most comments describe. My 2 girls went with the same as always burger menu, my son had a personal pizza, my husband #42 (enchiladas de salsa en cacahuate) and I had #53 pechuga con camarones and #26 tacos al vapor de pollo. I decided that my kids would try something different from the regular burger and pizza, so they would try Tacos al Vapor. Well, it wasn't as good as the pictures look. Then we ordered and waited and waited and waited. Then we were brought dips and chips. Later I was brought my queso which was melted cheese swimming in grease. It was so gross and when I asked the waitress she said that's queso. My reply was I am not eating this and we asked for the check. Yes we were charged for the nasty gross grease bowl and they tried charging for the soup my friend ordered and never received 30 minutes later. Our first visit and the last and yes we told our peers about it. No manager even tried speaking to us, sorry but I choose to spend where I don't pay over $10 for grease.
