Our go-to place when visiting SB! The veggie tacos are my fav! As long as you ask to leave off the cheese, they are vegan. The assorted veggies are so good...celery (yum), peppers, onions, mushrooms... There are other vegan options, including their rice and beans. Plenty of patio seating. Very small parking lot, but it's a neighborhood favorite so I usually see people walking or biking over. read more

Food The portions are massive so you will be splitting with someone or getting a to go box. Even my partner with a massive appetite could not finish their burrito. Love the massive menu and the different options. They have an entirely vegan menu option and bring their meat in from Rascal's. The best option from that was the Rascal's asada burrito and it was filled with meat, rice, and beans. So much flavor and the meat was so crispy in a good way. The two salsas they give you are both smoky and really good. The red is on the slightly spicy side, but nothing too crazy. Also got the vegan chorizo burrito and appreciated the chunks of potato that was added as well. We also got the three hardshell tacos and that was the best deal by far. The tacos were massive and came with plenty of lettuce and a huge dollop of guac. The guac was really good and for $8 it was crazy how much food you got. Truly the best deal and you could mix the meat that you had in each taco. Service You walk into the outdoor seating area and there are booths and tables that you can pick. You order at a counter and on one side there is a fresh meat market and small Mexican grocery store. They have fresh produce and plenty of traditional goods. On the right side, there is the counter with all of the menu above the counter. The menu is massive and broken out to each base you are looking for. The staff was super nice and worked the short line quickly. They did not stop and were helpful with getting us to go supplies when you need it. There is a place where you bus your dishes at the end. Ambiance It is a casual place for sure. No indoor seating and a full counter service where you bus your own table at the end. The bathroom is on the back side so you need to get the key from the counter. There is a pretty good sized parking lot, which is always a nice thing in Santa Barbara. read more

All I can say is that this place did not disappoint and was delicious. Service was polite and quick and very friendly. Ambience was just very casual and friendly to be outside. I've been going to Super Cuca's for years and am glad they've fully developed a vegan menu! This is a great place for vegans and non vegans! My boyfriend (not vegan) got the soya beef in his California Burrito and couldn't believe it was vegan. He went back and got another California Burrito with animal meat, and confirmed that the soya beef was better than the animal meat version!! Wohoo!! He credited the texture and seasoning. I like what I got & appreciate the variety of veggies. Food is delicious & affordable. Service is quick. There is covered outdoor seating, but extremely limited parking. Super Cucas absolutely saved our rainy day. We ordered two breakfast burritos and both were generously sized, flavorful, and clearly made fresh. The chorizo burrito was mucho bueno. The veggie burrito was also delicious and hearty, but my one tiny complaint: surprise celery made an unexpected appearance. If celery had been listed, I would've asked for it without... I love Super Cucas because the ingredients seem clean and fresh, and the portion sizes are good. But I am frustrated because the burritos consistently have TOO. MUCH. RICE. The picture I posted is from last night. I asked for "less rice, more beans", and this is what I got. I don't need tons of carbs inside my carb wrap, you know? Also, one time I ordered a shrimp burrito and said "beans only; no rice" and it literally had neither beans nor rice. I didn't realize until I was already 20 minutes away. $15+ down the drain. I've also received a rude welcoming from cashiers when picking up my order. I ordered and got a paper cup for coffee. The coffee was old, and taken away after I got the 1 cup. The meal came. Eggs, red sauce over 2 tiny corn tortillas. Big pile of rice and beans. No flavor to rice. This was $18 plus. I asked for more tortillas and the woman started to ring up an order of tortillas. I stopped her and exclaimed my unhappiness. Then I looked around. There are awards all over the wall, and locals hanging out casually. And in winter there is a constant draft that makes it hard to stay warm. The food leaves with much to desire. I ordered the enchiladas rojas with chicken and a single carne asada taco. If you want a big taco with tons of meat, this is your spot. But the carne asada is dry, and the salsa is honestly not much to say about. The rice was a tad bit under cooked and the enchilada sauce taste like it came from a can. Plenty of things to gripe about, and yet there's a constant flow of both "gringo" and Latino customers regularly coming in, in the 45 minutes I was here. It's a quiet spot with tv playing Mexican league soccer games, and a small market with all your basic Mexican product needs. The staff is friendly. If you want to get away from the crowd and see how local gente relax in a familiar environment, this is your spot. But I would go to Lily's or other spots for better, tastier food. read more

Came by for SB burrito week and stuck to their basic carne asada burrito. I hate writing reviews off just one item I've tried after some time, but I'm personally no major fan of Super Cucas each time I've visited. I've gone to all 3 locations at least once and the IV one many - but their food is just mid. It does the job to satisfy the Mexican food craving but it's not really that great... This burrito had mushy and flavorless rice, carne asada with no char and tasted like it boiled in its own juices - but also had no flavor in the marinade, and beans just normal beans. Salsas provided we're just okay. I don't think they have the best burrito in town but you will be full as it was very hefty. So many other spots are much more flavorful imo! And I've done my own in making some asada or getting some from the Santa Cruz market and grilling that up to know what's good, along with venturing in LA and SD for Mexican cuisine. I'm a bit disappointed but still finished it and enjoyed a nice $7 deal. Maybe it's just a one off but I think I'll stick to the other local spots in town! Maybe their plates and tortas might be better but I'm not sure I'll return with other spots to support. Super Cucas on the West Side is our go-to burrito/taco spot. We have been to two locations, but highly recommend the one on Micheltorena on the West Side. It may be out of the way for you and parking is often a zoo, but trust me, it's worth it. First, the location. This is a well-established family owned neighborhood carneceria, micro-grocery, and food counter. It's busy at lunch and at dinner when locals are wrapping up the work day, but it's also packed weekends and seemingly randomly. Even then, the line moves quickly and they're usually calling your number at the pickup window quickly too. The eating area is under a roof but somewhat open to the elements. It's basic, but on a beautiful day with a breeze, who cares? The food is outrageous. The menu is expansive and within the last 3-4 years they've rolled out a vegan menu. At odds with the idea of a taco shop with a vegan menu, the prices are the best in town and the portions are honestly overwhelming at times. As a vegetarian, I am mindful of three things in a taco/burrito spot: the beans, the rice, and the salsa. One adjustment for me at Cucas was the lack of refried beans - they serve whole beans from the olla. While in some situations I still prefer refried, here in town I will take the Cucas beans any day. Rice is basic. There's not an elaborate salsa bar, but three hot sauces/salsas available to go - a basic red (tasty, mostly mild), a smoky green (my fav), and habanera if you ask for it. The value here is off the charts for this crazy town. We feed a family of four for usually around $28-29 bucks. This does include one kid getting the kids hard tacos, but otherwise that's three adult-sized other meals, often with at least a few containers for the fridge. Top it off with chips and salsa (cheap), fries (surprisingly good), or horchata and you're ready for the beach, the Dodger game, or whatever you're up to. Go get it! read more

I order from Super Cucas like twice a week and have for a while - always the bacon breakfast burrito or the taquitos, both of which slap and I would give 5+ stars for. But tonight I wanted a regular burrito, which I've never ordered from Cucas before. It was DISGUSTING. Waaaaay too much rice and beans. I felt like I was eating slop poorly wrapped in a tortilla. It was just all mush and gross. have no idea how this burrito has won best burrito in town year after year. I can think of 6 places off the top of my head that are significantly better.
