I have to agree with a previous poster- the man who works at this location during the week is awful. Zero customer service. We waited at the register for a good 2 minutes before he acknowledged us. His attitude is horrendous. We got a Super Burrito, no meat. It's supposed to come with cheese. I didn't find any. Completely flavorless with too much rice. My husband got the California burrito and again, where is the cheese? Then they couldn't remember what we had ordered so we were asked again. The Super Cucos on Micheltorena is so much better! Fast service, great food every time. Skip the one on Cliff and go to Micheltorena instead. You'll be glad you did. We will never go back to Cliff again. read more

I really did try to let my camera eat first . . . but with no success. This little Mexican food oasis is always spot on with the many meaty and veggie food flavors, both spicy and mild. We usually phone ahead for pick up, or sitting in their comfy-cozy and intimate dining area is always nice. I always go up to their Mesa location not really knowing what I want. But once you enter and smell what's cooking in the kitchen, and then a couple glances at their menu, and I can zero in on what sounds the best. At the counter their staff is always friendly and helpful in making sure you get what you want. The guy who takes the orders / runs the register Mon - Fri is the absolute worst. I've been going there for years, and order pretty much the same thing so it's true when I say depending upon whether he's there or not do I get decent food. Easy to measure. I have always been respectful to him - tried to always be friendly, but him to me, never. He might be neutral, but is usually brusk and dismissive. Today I had the nerve to ask for the guacamole that is part of what I order as I couldn't see any. He was agressive, belligerent, and said I got the 'usual portion'. I said there didn't seem to be any at all and he just shrugged. Turns out there was perhaps a teaspoon full.. This guy has never once made any effort to offer any level of customer service to me. No matter what I get or don't get he does not care if its right or not. He simply does not care. This is his usual m.o. I mentioned him to some friends of mine who live in the neighborhood and they said they've stopped going there except on weekends, when he's not there. I've watched him deal with people when there a line. BIG obvious difference. This guy is Hispanic. I am white. My friends are white. Draw your own conclusions. It's a real shame that who ever owns these restaurants hires someone who is so rude and color driven. I've emailed the listed owner about this but to no avail. No reply. I'm not a high maintenance person. I'm not at a high class restaurant here. My expectations are low - just give me some decent, fresh food please. And respond if I notice somethings off, don't just blow me off. And definitely don't have two levels of menu. Wow. I stopped sending people there a couple of years ago, due to this guy's attitude. Good portions, reasonable prices, quick and convenient, but food was just okay. 3.5/5 I got the chicken quesadilla and it was huge. It was loaded with cheese but wasn't super flavorful. The main issue for me was the chicken was overcooked and dry. Just kinda bland overall, and I needed to lather it with salsa for flavor. I appreciated the salsa bar that had a variety of options. The pros are that the service is super quick. There is tons of parking and it's easy to order take out. I've been a huge fan of Super Cucas for years, so it honestly hurts to write this. I've heard rumors about the food quality before, but I never experienced it myself until today. I ordered a big meal, and it was honestly disgusting. The meat tasted like it had been sitting in a fridge for days, and the rice was sticky and sour--definitely old. When I went back to show them, they tried to deny it at first. But once I opened the food up and they saw how bad it looked, they gave me a refund immediately because they knew there was no fixing it. I think them refunding me back so fast was because they knew the food was old and nasty. I started feeling sick after eating the food, let's hope I don't get it worse! To make matters worse, the guy at the register had a terrible attitude from the start. I've worked in food service, so I know it's not that hard to just be decent to people. I won't be going back. Unless you're okay with eating days-old food and dealing with rude service, I'd suggest staying away. I had a craving for carne asada fries during our trip to SB and came across this place. Though the menu doesn't specifically state that in the menu, the name of the item we got was called "fries and meat" so pretty much the same thing, but in different wording. You choose your protein, and it comes with fries, cheese, beans, sour cream, guacamole and pico de gallo. I opted to hold on the beans. The plate itself was big, enough for sharing, however I felt the carne asada meat was a bit dry, and it overall tasted too salty for me. My husband ordered carne asada tacos, and I also felt like his tacos were a bit on the drier side. Overall, food here was just ok, maybe it was an off-day of theirs. This place is called Super Cuca's for a reason. The portions are huge and depending on your appetite, whatever meal you get here will leave you overly stuffed and satisfied. I love their breakfast burritos! You can get a baby sized burrito that weighs about 5 pounds. I'm just kidding, but it feels that heavy. The best part is they are mostly under $10. This by far is the best bang for your buck! They now offer vegan and vegetarian burritos as well. The Carne Asada tortas are overflowing with meat. You could make your own meal out of your leftovers if you don't eat it all. Same goes for their quesadillas. The tortilla is the size of a large pizza and generously filled with your choice of meat. Overall, this is one of my favorite places for burritos and a must try if you're in the area. read more

Very nice lunch today. First time there. This burrito was large. The relleno inside was perfect. I saw other customers' plates and all their food looks delicious. The 4 stars instead of 5 is because I was a touch disappointed in the salsa selection. I like hot and although they say it's hot... it's not. Not even the habanero salsa. The flavors are okay.... and it complimented the food alright.... but it didn't make me want to really add it to every bite. Especially the habanero...I like the true taste of that chile.... forget the lime and other added flavors. Give me hot Then there's the horchata. I won't get it again. When I called them to inform them I may have gotten sick from their food, the manager laughed at me and denied that they may have had something to do with it. I am saddened by this lack of respect and caring. I definitely have a food borne illness stemming from what very little food I ate that day. What has this world come to when a community favorite restaurant like this breaks trust? They could have chosen to be polite and sympathetic but instead they were derisive and in denial. We were driving back from the San Francisco Bay Area to Orange County and it was getting late. Found Super Cuca's on YELP and it definitely hit the spot. Got there at 9P on Jan 1 and was warmly greeted. Large portions and so tasty! Hubby ordered the Shrimp burrito (w/o veggies), 13 year old ordered Carne Asada Nachos (loved the guacamole on top, had leftovers) I had the Carnitas enchiladas with rice and beans. The crispy parts of the carnitas contrasted well with the sauce and cheese (still drooling over how delicious it was) My 2 younger ones ordered the kids plates - Carne Asada that my son devoured and Pollo Asada that my youngest really enjoyed. This is my go-to spot since childhood. I would walk home with friends from school and stop here, my mom would bring home a super plate and add extra tortillas and we would share as a family, and when I was a student in grad school I would binge eat on the burritos. My daughter now is obsessed with the kid quesadilla option! My favorite item is the chile relleno burrito with carne asada. Sit outside or simply grab to-go; you just can't go wrong. The only down side is that parking isn't great. The family that owns and operates Cuca's are so friendly and actively involved in the community. Bonus tip, always ask for extra salsa and enjoy it your leftovers. read more

Amazing burritos, fast and friendly service. We are slightly (ok - very) obsessed with breakfast burritos and we have tried pretty much all the breakfast burritos / sandos that Santa Barbara has to offer. After floating around maybe 10 different spots, Super Cuca's has hands-down been our favorite and is firmly our go-to morning ritual in the Mesa. I call to order takeout during the morning dog walk and then pickup deliciousness en route home. I appreciate that every time I call, the person taking my order always confirms I have the right Super Cucas location (of 2) which is just good thoroughness. Also it's one of the few restaurants open before 8am which is a boon for our schedule! (However I've noticed some of the 3rd party app ordering only starts with 8am orders - but I'd rather call directly anyway!) The veggie breakfast burrito is incredible -- no soggy veggies here, it's packed with fluffy scrambled eggs and crisp fresh veggies. My second fave is their Huevos Rancheros in burrito form. Also simply great - Chile Relleno breakfast burrito and the Cucas burrito with eggs, potatoes, cheese beans and guacamole. Their Pico de Gallo is so fresh, I can't help ask for extra each time. We've also tried their vegan burritos, one which has soy pastor and another with soy beef -- it was good and fun to try something different, although I think it might have been too potato heavy for me. Overall, love their vast menu, efficient service and everyone just seems genuinely awesome there -- like you can see them "smile" through the mask! read more

DISCLAIMER: This is a review for their breakfast burritos! I only come here for their breakfast burritos because they are definitely worth having. Been meaning to make a review as I've gone to this location since 2017, but wanted to post one that's more recent. I've frequented all the Super Cucas locations and I'd say this one is the best one in terms of breakfast burrito quality. The IV location is a close second!! (went to UCSB undergrad). I now reside in Boston and they do not do breakfast burritos right over there. I try to come here every time I visit as their burritos bring me nostalgia of great tasting breakfast burritos 80% of the time, I get their Ranchero Burrito. For reference, the Protein, Sausage, Beef, chorizo burritos are also excellent. But I haven't had them recently as the Ranchero Burrito has more bang for buck (more meat) and tastier than the others in my opinion. Service was great and they brought the burritos out timely. If I had some cons with all of the super cucas locations, I wish they had other salsas than the three main ones (rojo - smoky taste, verde - your mild sauce, pico de gallo). I love salsas in general, but again to each their own. In addition, the multiple times I've been the consistency is variable. Sometimes the breakfast burritos are more egg heavy than meat, the meat is all the way at the bottom of the burrito, or there is little cheese. In short, the ingredient portions can be disproportionate. In all the times I've been to this location, the meat is seasoned well, the eggs are fluffy, and the cheese is nice and melty. The burritos do come piping hot so let it sit a little before eating or else your taste buds are out of commission for a week. Tldr: great tasting BREAKFAST BURRITOS. I was born and raised in Santa Barbara to a Latino family who is born in raised in Mexico. I can still go to my grandmothers house on the lower west side to get authentic Mexican food any day of the week. After moving away from SB for years and sampling Mexican food all over the state- I am proud to say that Santa Barbara is home to pretty much the best Me I can food this side of the border. Luckily, every single spot has something to offer. Needless to say I have a very high expectations for Mexican food in my community. That being said Super Cucas has always been there for me; whether it's for a shrimp taco plate after work or a post beach burrito. The food at Super Cucas tastes authentic: there are, vegan, vegetarian, and traditional options to choose from. Currently, they are offering vegan dishes from Rascals vegan kitchen ( they are fire!) I do miss the salsa bar that was available prior to Covid- but other than that super Cucas has never done me wrong and I like to see that after all these years the staff has largely the remained the same (so did the prices). I always leave a tip when I order to go because my food comes out delicious in in a timely manner. My go to order- A grilled veggie with no cheese or sour cream. I write this post really disappointed in super cucas staff. I often never use my yelp account until I am truly disappointed or surprised. My family and I have been coming to super cucas my whole life and it's been usually fair and friendly service. Today I went in to get 2 burritos for lunch and it came out to $31 I didn't think much of it but when the lady at the front turned around the tip button I selected no tip because I'm 21 and broke and trying to get by. As many are. I submit my order TO GO and hear her say to the other employee in Spanish "oh he didn't tip" "the tip was zero" I am bilingual so they must have not known that. My burritos were done only after about 4 mins or so and I have never been this disappointed because when I picked up the burrito I thought I was holding a can of soda in wrapped in tin foil. The burrito was half the size of what I have been getting for the last 10 years and I come here to support a local business instead of chipotle, free birds etc. I don't know why they did this to me because I am always respectful and polite to anyone in the service industry. My family and I do not plan to come back as I am not valued as a customer. Please look at this you own and manage this location and remind your employees to respect any paying customer. Two words: California Burrito! Where are my foodies at? They've got the OG french fries in a burrito combo here! Just stop reading now and head over to get one. On a serious note, what keeps me coming back here is the incredibly sweet customer service I have experienced every single time I am in shop. They deal with my silly replacement requests and adding extra cheese all the time without a bat of the eye, and not even charging sometimes. They're always smiling and on top of it, making the orders quicker than most places I've been and never having messed up one of my alterations. My favorite menu items here i would 100% recommend everyone trying are the #18 Breakfast Burrito, the Super Shrimp Plate, and the Diet Burrito with extra cheese. All are incredibly packed with flavor and reasonably priced, especially for the fact that it feeds me for two meals because the portions are so large. They have a large parking lot, are located next to the best frozen yogurt place in town (Loving Spoonful), have more options than you can ever imagine, are extremely kind, work very quick, have a popsicle fridge, and a self serve salsa bar! Delicious Food! Huge Portions! Great price! Came in for some dinner with the family. It was perfect. Got the kids plate with just rice and chicken and tortilla. I got 2 tacos (huge!) w beans on the side and my husband got the enchiladas. It was so much food! The tacos are much bigger than normal street tacos and comes with a lot of meat. Consistently average! 4 stars may seem like a lot for that, but it's hard to find a place where you can always rely on them being decent. I stick with veggie burritos and BRCs. Sometimes there is some meat inside (I can usually taste it and pick it out) but it's a small amount; not enough to make you sick if you're not used to eating meat. My dad loves the breakfast burritos (the daily specials) but he doesn't recommend the chicken burritos (they are too greasy?). Forgot to mention their meals are HUGE. Like. You're good for two meals (lunch and dinner or breakfast and dinner) with one burrito or plate. Before Mesa Burger was Mesa Burger it was Mexican Fresh and the go-to spot for locals. Now, us local Mesa people (are there any left?) go to Super Cucas. We needed a replacement. P.S. BRING BACK MEXICAN FRESH and BeBop Burger while you're at it. Thanks! read more

A friend recommended this location of Super Cuca's and she really loves it so I decided to try. It's a huge value - the side options available (beans, rice, single enchiladas, etc.) are all pretty inexpensive and the rice and beans are clearly made from scratch. I ordered a basic burrito and it was huge. I phoned the order in and the staff who took my order was super friendly and helpful and of course it was ready when I got there 15 minutes later. With the sides it's too much food but it's a great way to turn one burrito into two meals easily. They also have a really inexpensive kids menu which is great if you want to feed your family but of course don't want to spend a small fortune on larger dishes that won't be finished. I don't mind humble interiors and the place seemed clean; they had a lot of workers in the back so clearly they are always prepared for their dinner rushes and I expect that the food usually comes out quickly though this is my first visit. I'm a huge fan of homemade Mexican rice so I'll be back for that for sure. The food is simple but good; and I like simple. When you consider the incredible value, the friendliness, the staffing and the speedy service I think this place (though on the less fancy side) deserves its five stars. read more

Love this place and I am a faithful customer. I usually get the same one or two things. I've noticed lately the last few times they have been very inconsistent, it may be the guys cooking, but they just didn't make it like it should be. I was very dissatisfied because if the menu says a burrito has certain items in it, you expect to find them in it.
