I came to order food and as I stand there waiting to get attended my coworker and I just mention how good the sopes looked. As time passed I realized the lady was just standing there cutting the cow tongue. So my coworker kindly asked"excuse me ma'am do we order here or at the check out"? This wonderful little market has a lot to offer. FRombaked goods, to tauthentic takeout,tofreshproduce toa small meatcounter with fresh meat and house made chorizo. I love theirf fresh pan dulce, and interesting fruits and veggies. I found fresh garbanzo beans there one day and the friendly knowledgeable clerk told me how to cook them. The good: A very tasty al pastor burrito, full of meat with lots of yummy charred bits, onions and pineapple. It came with a salad and a soda and made a very nice lunch. The bad (and the ugly): I came in originally to buy green onions. They had plenty, but they were all very wilted. I have to give credit that the cashier gave me two bunches for the price of one so I had enough for my cooking at home, but I was surprised that no one had looked at them in days? Overall, a nice small market with a tasty food counter and a small produce and fresh meat section. Good when you want something quick. read more

So much meat in the tacos. I got the lengua, pastor, and carnitas along with a couple tamales. All the meats were flavored well and had great flavor to it. The meat wasn't dry at all and juicy. And the tacos are only $1.25. For the amount of meat in the tacos and the price, I think it's a steal. It's hidden within a Mexican market, but if you're ever in the area, you should check it out. Once you walk in the door, you are transported to a little mercado in Mexico. The gorditas, tacos and tortas are abundant with meat and all cooked to order. La Montana is a hidden little jewel. read more

Holy balls! I think I just died and went to gordita heaven! No, I don't mean the gut bomb gorditas that you order from taco bell at 2 am after drinking all of the beers in North Portland. I mean the authentic crispy little pockets of love filled with meat, cheese, lettuce, cotija and crema fresca. When you first walk in to La Montana it looks like a standard Mexican super market but then you walk a little further and find a tiny restaurant in the back where your food is made to order. This is as authentic as it gets people! The only thing that competes with this is my mom's cooking and that lady gets down! I had the pork adobo gorditas that were bursting with flavors that knocked my little socks off! I also had a tamale that was full of win! The prices are right and the owner is nice and friendly. Forest Grove is way out there, but if you find yourself there for some reason, La Montana is a must stop! I can't wait to experience more of their menu! read more

For example my favorite is the Torta meal, comes with a huge delicious Torta, a drink and a side of fries....for $5.99!!! (That's a happy meal at McDonalds). read more

What a surprise to see the back wall festooned with pictures of food and sheets with prices, not one word in English. To say this is an authentic experience just doesn't do it. The music, the lack of English speaking employees... The food is wonderful I ordered Carnitas, always a favorite of mine. Huge plate with lots of pico degallo and avocado and limes. Slices of wonderful green chilis made the dinner perfect. Hot, fresh corn tortillas wrapped in foil were exactly right. Way too much food for one person, but I am not complaining. Friendly smiles, and a level of pride rarely seen. I may go for breakfast... The four booths were busy and there was a line waiting for take out. The few English signs all warned the food was made fresh at order so the wait would be about 20 minutes. I waited only ten. Go for the adventure, stay for the wonderful, healthy food. read more

I lived in Austin, Texas for five years, and six in the San Francisco Bay Area, and I love traditional Mexican food as well as hybrids - but Oregon Mexican food, even in Portland, has so disappointed me. We live in Forest Grove, and decided to go to nearby Cornelius and start walking into super mercados to see if any had cafes. Super Mercado La Montana was our first stop, and the menu looked scrumptious. And the food turned out to be scrumptious as well. We both had pollo enchiladas, and were stunned when they came out Mexican style, not Ameri-Mex style. Tons of salad, roasted potatoes, carrots and chilis... best Mexican food I've had in Oregon! We most definitely will be back. There's just four booths - lunch on weekends seems to be slow. And check out the grocery - some cool stuff. We will definitely be back. read more
