This is like the best kept secret in South Fort Worth. I'll explain. It's like a breath of fresh air. You walk in and it's so colorful with a greeting from an assortment of fresh pastries. There's a variety of everything and everything is stocked well. Theres a restaurant that sells 3 Tacos and a drink for $5 inside. There's also large Picnic tables to sit down. I purchased three mini Tampico drinks , a dozen Flour Wheat Tortillas and a bag of Shredded Cheddar Cheese for about five Dollars. It seemed like there was one register open, of course. The customer at the register before me was having a difficult time scanning his payment. The customer behind him was friendly stating he liked a certain brand of Tortillas. The line grew quickly with like five people behind me. Smh. However, it started moving quickly. They have a vendor in the lobby that sells Stanley cups for $25.00. He was really nice. He had his music turned up loud! He lowered his music to speak to me then when I was done speaking, he turned his music back up! Lol. Well, this was quite a nice surprise. The prices were a bit high, especially for things easily accessible at a regular grocery store. In terms of baked items, we bought a guava pie and it was underwhelming. Are latin american desserts ever that good though? Not really. So, par for the course there, I guess. My kids also picked out some packaged chocolate cookies that, come to find out, expired two months ago. They still ate them. What I witnessed and personally experienced left me feeling deeply disrespected--and, sadly, discriminated against. As I stood in line with my young children, I watched Kelley warmly greet and engage in friendly small talk with the customer ahead of me. However, when it was our turn, her demeanor shifted completely. She didn't offer a greeting--not even a glance. I said "Hi" to her, trying to be polite, but she did not acknowledge me or my children at all. As I bagged my items, I observed her check out two more customers after me--both of whom were white. Again, she was friendly, smiling, and conversational with them. The stark difference in how she treated us was undeniable. The only visible difference between us and the others was the color of our skin. Ordinarily, I would have spoken up. But I stayed silent in that moment--not out of fear, but to protect my children from witnessing and trying to understand something no child should ever have to: the quiet cruelty of racism. It's incredibly painful to feel unwelcome simply for being who you are. I hope this feedback is taken seriously. Discrimination--whether overt or subtle--has no place in any business that serves the public.
