Without a doubt one of the best Happy Hours in Brooklyn. Between the food and drinks, it's hard to go wrong here. And with the happy hour going from 5-8, you can't go wrong. Definitely my favorite bar in a strip of great ones on Nostrand Avenue. Tiki themed, with some awesome pinball in the back, I'm a fan. They have some of my favorite drinks like "John the Beachcomber". I'm not 100% sure, but I think there might be a connection to one of my other favorite bars, Bearded Lady. They got great dollar oysters for happy hour. And that Bahn Mi Hot Dog is delicious. If you're planing a day or night around Nostrand, this is a must. read more

The entire time I was here, I kept thinking, "Damn, I wish this was my neighborhood bar!" Then again, maybe it's just as well since I'd probably never want to leave: So yeah... I don't know much from tiki, but I definitely know from kitschy. Indeed. The instant I set foot in this place, it reminded me of a retro lounge I adored back in my hometown, credited with inventing the Pink Squirrel, a trashy, boozy white creme de cacao and almond ice cream drink tinged, dare I say, millennial pink. Need I say more? Anyway, most of the cocktails here contain rum, which am not really into. But I'm no uncivilized brute, and know that's part of the whole tropical tiki schtick. Thus, wound up going with the only vodka-based drink, Beach Vibes, billed on the menu as "a Blue Hawaii, by way of Nostrand Avenue." Well, it was blue alright and at first sip, it tasted a bit syrupy and a bit unsophisticated... But I think maybe that's the point. At any rate, it didn't take more than a couple more sips for me to get into it, though am sure it didn't hurt that it was strong (**wink**). The bartender made a virgin Mojito for the kid, which he loved, and hubby stuck with his usual boring beer on-tap. We also tried the food, including Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Nachos, and a Banh Mi Veggie Dog. I can definitely vouch for the latter. Yes, the hot dog component still tasted every bit like well, soy protein isolate, but the bun and toppings really elevated it, and for only $5. Pulled Pork Sandwiches were solid, but they were on the very small side. So was glad we also ordered Nachos, which stand out in my memory 'cause the the chips were so beautifully thick and sturdy, as if house-made. Am flashing back, too, on hubby's observation that the Nachos needed some sliced jalapeno to add heat. He also pointed out that the kitchen, if you could call it that, consists of a tiny space within the bar. Keeping that in mind, I thought the food was really impressive and only wish there had been a couple more options to choose from. When we were here, late on a Sunday afternoon, the crowd was pretty low key. In fact, ours was not the only family chilling here, among mostly, am guessing, locals enjoying a lazy day recovering from Saturday night's hangover. The indoor space and backyard are fun and feel like an escape from BK. Plus, the bartender who served up our drinks and grub was SUPER sweet, which am thinking may be a prerequisite to work here. Super power is my favorite type of cocktail place. It's breezy, it's tropical and it's delicious! Give me all the frozen, fruity and tropical drinks and I'm a happy girl! Park that right next to a tiki hut and a beach then I'm sold! Nestled right in the heart of Crown Heights you really feel like you can transport yourself to the Caribbean! This is a great spot to go on a date night or just out with friends! The drinks are decently priced with most just at $10 and always made with such flare! Think tiny umbrellas, fruit toppers and fun little monkeys to make your cocktail go the extra mile. Some of my favorites, are their frozen mango margarita...I mean how do you go wrong there?! This bar has been a great addition to the neighborhood. The space is large with a good amount of seating and lots of bar space. The happy hour is awesome with cheaper drinks and $1 oysters, which is a delicious steal! But above all else, the drinks are spot-on perfect: strong, boozy, expertly-crafted, and tasty! These suckers pack a punch (not that I'm complaining)! Also, everyone working there from the bar tenders to the guy shucking the oysters are super friendly. Iv'e been to Super Power twice now and I'm a fan. You're talking Crown Heights, you're talking Tiki bar, you're talking good drinks and yum food. There's no lack of places in this area, and yet Super Power manages to do it well. The drinks are good. One of my pet peeves is places like this that have just one style of drink. I need a little variety and Super Power gives it to me. It's not all pina coladas. I enjoy their variation of the Old Fashion. Food is on point, albeit a touch on the expensive side imho. The pulled pork sandwich is delicious and if you're not pretencious, you'll enjoy that they put pineapple on it. Admit it; you know pineapple makes everything better. When it's warm, you'll want to sit outside, but be warned that it's first come first serve and everyone for themselves. If you see someone get up, snatch that chair cause someone else will snatch it and the staff isn't gonna try to get involved. Inside is nice and continues the theme of the tiki bar. Staff has always been friendly, bathrooms are clean, and you're gonna have a good time if you go. Now go! read more

One day, I got text with picture of a flyer. "New place to check out!" - he said. Short menu with exotic theme & oyster happy hour looked so damn good that we decided to go there right away. It's a cute little place, with decent size bar & few booth seats - backyard was not open yet (bummer that summer is over now!). The menu is excellent if you want to chow on good bar food, like hot dog & nachos, over few drinks late at night; or come for special treat during happy hour for great selection of freshest oysters (they usually have 3 varieties, ask server which ones they are that day). Cocktails are themed & beautifully served - loved them! It's fun, casual & all-around solid neighborhood hangout spot. Our only gripe was music being too loud, but I think it's only affect booth seating due to accoustics since we were fine at the bar - or may be they lowered it on our next visit? I came to SP based on my daughter's suggestion. It's right around the corner from her and she said it's her fave place to chill and have a few drinks and conversation. We went the day after Xmas so it was pretty quiet. It was a place that you'd maybe pass by if you didn't know it was there. There wasn't much ambiance but by the same token I'm glad it wasn't a bougie/gentrified/hipster place either, as it seems so many places in Brooklyn are becoming. All ordering is done with the bartender who was friendly yet unobtrusive. There were several tropical themed cocktails...I opted for the frozen Painkiller. I didn't enjoy it very much, it wasn't at all like the ones I've had in the FL Keys. We shared the nachos with pulled pork. They were decent and generously portioned. They brought them out with only a few small napkins. I had to request plates, and they were those small ultra thin paper ones! Kinda inadequate with messy nachos but we made do. SP has a small but reasonably priced selection of beers...I could do with $6 Presidentes all night long! They had an eclectic soundtrack going, from Hendrix to Spice Girls. I've been wanting to try this spot for quite some time, and this past Friday, I was finally able to lay eyes on the place. The place is staffed by what seems to be wonderfully kind and professional people. I especially appreciated their attention to cleanliness and other COVID-19 measures. Now, and this has become the bane of my existence with so many bars nowadays: COCKTAILS SHOULD NOT BE SERVED IN ROCKS GLASSES!!! No, this is not a demand for "more liquor," but an acknowledgement of proper bartending. We ordered margaritas on the rocks, and because of the size of the glass AND THE ROCKS, three sips and you're done. This crap drives me crazy. Rocks glasses are for spirits on the rocks or neat. I can't tell you how much this bothers me, and I typically refuse to return to places who do this, as I think it most greedy and deceptive. read more

Went a few times last summer and the place was great! I went early last night and things started off well. The guy bartender (with braids and a laid back vibe) made me a nice drink and when I was ready for the second drink (unfortunately) the the super tall woman bartender with long curly hair made my ...cup filled with ice (literally) the drink was 1/3 of the first. I should have waited to order from the guy. I was annoyed but whatever...then to add to it...after a little bit (my friend still had his beer) she asked us to leave the bar seating for other customers). Definitely not stingy with the rum My Beachcomber was . Now the 12 raw oysters 3 each of 4 different kinds of oysters was very tasty with crushed garlic definitely a good combo. Dimly lit tiki themed bar in central brooklyn serving meh drinks in unique instagram worthy presentations. 2 tabled areas connected by a narrow bar can make for a tight space but we celebrated a birthday with over 20 people just fine in the front area. Music was good and at a comfortable volume to allow for conversation while still maintaining party vibes. Small food menu - ok pulled pork nachos that functioned well as a snack. Definitely don't come hungry. Overall, not my favorite spot in Brooklyn but will probably be back given its convenient location between home and work and the fact that my coworkers seem to like this place. Super Power grew on me the moment I entered the backyard. The cool blue chairs and the laid back feel of the backyard meshed well with their strong Polynesian drinks. I'd choose a Brooklyn bar with a large backyard over some posh cocktail spot in Manhattan any day. I'm a bourbon drinker, so I immediately went for the Super Fashioned, but I can't imagine going wrong with any of the drinks since they all sounded very strong and flavorful. At $10, the cocktails aren't cheap, but you're also paying for the experience and the presentation of the drinks here, so it's worth it. The Banh mi Dog gets a special shoutout because it was a simple but amazing idea. You basically take a hot dog and turn it into a Vietnamese banh mi sandwich. I loved it, albeit thought it was a bit pricey for a hot dog at $6. The Nachos were good, but only when you splurge the extra 2 bucks to get the pulled pork added on them. Super Power is exactly what I want in a local bar. The drinks are fun, stylish, taste fantastic and fairly strong given what you order (the Beachcomber in particular packs a punch). It has all the quirkiness of what you'd expect from a tiki bar without reaching excess or cheapness (and the prices are very reasonable for the quality of the drinks, typically between $10-$12). I was a frequent visitor before COVID and have stopped by a couple times in the past two weeks. Speaking of COVID, my two experiences sitting in their back patio have been great. Spaced out seating and an emphasis on hand sanitizer, super limited contact, and employees consistently switching out disposable orders with each trip to/from different tables. This is my preferred tiki bar in Crown Heights. King Tai might have a terrace section but Super Power has an amazing backyard space that they have outfitted with great speakers and lights that are perfectly dim to maintain a laidback ambience. The vibe of the place is great all around, from the cartoon menus, the pinball machine in the corner and the ridiculous recepticles in which they serve certain cocktails. The bartenders know their stuff and are always happy to explain the elements of their drinks or the beers (or the Dead Guy in a Can, try it!). The booths inside are often available and you can fit 6 people in them easily. But the main thing to do (in warmer months) is to find a spot outside which is a kind of oasis where the traffic from Nostrand Ave is non-existent. The one problem I had was the food took a really long time to come out and turned out to be pretty mediocre. Eat somewhere else before, save up money for their cocktails and find a place outside and you will be set. read more

This place absolutely lives up to its name. I may of had a pre-existing buzz walking in there, but none the less, made friends quite quickly with the staff and other patrons. Rarely is a crap bar filled with quality folks. The vibe of Super Power is what I imagine my dream home bar looking something along the lines of someday, but perhaps a bit bigger. Contrary to what you all might think you know about me, I am not a Sangria type of guy. Seeing it at a bar is about as exciting as a bocce ball court. The vermouth based sangria here however was super dope. It had a little allspice in it and wasn't too sweet. We tried a couple other drinks as well, most featuring fresh flowers. This place doesn't promote itself as a tiki bar, but it was definitely on the higher end of tiki quality in Brooklyn. I'd say only Diamond Reef is on par with Super Power for tropical-ish bars in Brooklyn. read more

They refused to serve us OUTSIDE without proof of vaccination which is unheard of. First, the bar tender said we needed to show proof to drink inside so we said we'll sit outside and then he said we couldn't be served at all bc his boss told him to do so. It's not a destination, not worth traveling out of your area for, but if you're in crown heights, on Nostrand, this would make a nice addition to your bar hopping list.
