She asked me for a payment BEFORE the service started. I paid for 60 minutes. After 45 minutes, she said she was done. I stated that she only did 45 minutes, but she kept claiming that she did 60 minutes. I let it go because there is no point of arguing with this type of store/person. Abysmally unprofessional: (a) Inappropriate touch I'm a man and I always prefer to keep my underwear on when I'm getting a massage from a female therapist for the first time. I want to make crystal clear that I am not in any way seeking or making any sexual advances. Also, very soon into the massage, during small talk, I talk for a while about my male partner - to make it very clear that I'm a gay man. It's just an extra mile that I go to establish safety and boundaries. The massage therapist asked me two to three times to take off my underwear. I told her firmly that I would keep them on. At one point, when I was on my stomach and she started working on my back, she started to pull them down - after I'd said no! I yelled at her firmly that I'd made it clear I'd keep them on. Later, towards the end of my massage, when I rolled onto my back, at one point she quickly patted my genitals through my underwear. It was sooooooo inappropriate. In retrospect, I regret giving her a tip. It's super-ingrained in me to give service workers a generous tip. I was acting on that impulse. (Read below.) In retrospect, I should have given her nothing because of the inappropriate touch - and made it clear why. (b) Harassment: Repeated harassment for additional tip (on top of the 25% I gave!) was extremely unprofessional and irritating. It wasn't just from the massage therapist who worked on me - but also later her colleague. They asked at least five times. I had to raise my voice very firmly and insist I was already giving 25%. (And the massage was not worth a 25% tip, as I highlight below. However, I almost always over-tip workers in service professions, esp. in the pricey Bay Area.) II. Very mixed massage I called in advance and asked whether someone could provide deep tissue work. The receptionist told me she thought so. She suggested that I try for 30 minutes, and continue for a full 60 minutes if I found it satisfactory. The massage therapist was able to go deep: a solid 4 of 5. Her work on my feet, in particular, was excellent: 4.5 of 5. However, her overall technique was slightly less than average: 2.5 of 5. And, she put her elbow on my spine two or three times in a way that really worried me. (I immediately called her on it.) I really needed a massage for some knotted muscles, and my regular studio was booked. I was in the neighborhood and saw this place and thought to give it a try. Needless to say, I had a disturbing experience overall. However, part of my experience wasn't just a rare horrible encounter. I was dating this guy who really liked massages. I guess I kind of assumed his love language was physical touch (just like my cat's) but after a few months I realized that our "dates" weren't really dates at all. And it was then that I realized I had not left my apartment in a week and a half and had not been touched by a human in... let's just say longer. I thought about how the night before I tried to trick myself into turning my cat's love and affection into the feeling of a human's affection. Like, we're just in a really comfortable longterm relationship. We don't do "it" but like, we make out I guess... which is maybe just me blowing kisses towards him and him smelling my breath but potayto, potahto. He let's me touch his face so if I had to 'define the relationship', I'd say we're very serious. So I decided that even though I'm adhering to a very strict budget, that it was necessary to both my physical and mental health to have some sort of human contact. I looked up massages and saw there was a place right next door to my nail place. It looked... basic. And the prices seemed cheap... which was exactly what I knew my top of the line would be so it was a perfect fit. Low budget body work? I'm in. I walked over, walked in, there was no one there customer-wise but me. I didn't have an appointment but Tuesdays at 4:45 must be their slow time. I looked at the menu and the prices seemed too good to be true and if you pay cash you can get an even better discount. The guy pointed to the menu and said that the 90 minute foot and body massage was less than the menu stated. That took me a few tries to understand and I'm not sure why and I probably should have asked more questions but I did not and just went with it. Like everyone says, it's no frills. If I had to give the ambiance a description, I'd say 'hospice-y'. The seats are comfortable and my guy did a great job although I cannot relax and cannot shut my brain off from being like, 'a stranger man is touching me. a stranger man is touching me', but I tried as hard as I could to close my eyes and pretend it was the guy I was seeing finally giving me a massage back. I think because he'd never actually "scratched my back" that I just couldn't get there so I spent the entire hour and a half with my eyes partially open either under the eye towel peeking out the bottom to see what was happening with my legs, or peeking through the massage table head hole at the ikea stool or the guys socks and sandals below. I like a real hard, deep massage and the guy did a nice job with that, but my favorite part, hands down, was when he came in and cracked my back a bunch of times and when he turned my head like the girl from the exorcist and cracked it some more. THAT was what I needed. That and pretty much anytime he touched my head or face because mannnn it's been too long and that was like, so so nice. Anyway, I don't know if it was a happy hour special or something but it was only $58 for an hour and half. Keeping the affordability of this place in mind as I write this review. I wasn't expecting anything luxurious, but I was hoping for a good experience. I booked a full body massage appointment online with no preference of a therapist. Before therapists begin, they usually ask if there's anything they need to know about your body or any issues. My therapist did not. He just walked in and started. In the first 5 minutes of the massage, I asked for a little softer pressure. I then had to ask 3 more times during the session for softer. It wasn't just the pressure, it was how rushed and hard the therapist was being. After being very disappointed, I tipped 10%. The therapist then pointed at a sign on the wall that says that people typically tip 20% for their service. I had been going to Super Spa for regularly for over a year now so this review is based on repeated interactions. Initially I really enjoyed the massage experience and gave them a 5 star review. However, over time the experience started becoming more and more stressful. Pros: -overall good massage technique Cons: -unprofessional behavior of the masseuses- answering their cell phones multiple times during the massage session which creates a non relaxing atmosphere when their cell phone keeps ringing or sounding with text messages -one of the masseuses asked for a ride home at the end of the night multiple times (really unprofessional) -demanding a large tip at the end of the massage, pointing to a sign that says a minimum tip of $10-15 is required...which is ridiculous because tips are an extra bonus...they aren't required. read more

Found this place spontaneously on yelp after date day was over. All I can say is $45 for an amazing fu*King massage so good that we tipped more and would come back ! The decor was a typical asian massage place, but it was clean and quiet. Since they didn't have any women workers, my bf and I were assigned each to a guy. My bf didn't mind but usually I would get a woman because they have a softer touch. The room we were in had great ambience, dark with instrumental music. The 2 men massaged us for almost an hour. Best hour ever . They literally got every single spot . EVERY KNOT! For all you weight lifters or sport players, this place is for you! TLDR; For what you get for the price, it's really worth it. They have limited English proficiency. --- If it was any more expensive than their price point, I would have given this place 4 stars, but this place is as cheap as it gets. Really, 1 hour massage is $46 with credit card ($44 cash). You would never find it anywhere else. They also have the tip guide on a piece of paper for 1 hr massage at the front desk when you pay with $10 being "normal", $15 "very good", and $20 excellent. Anyway, most of them had limited English capability. So, make sure you know this when you come in! Best to come in with someone who could at least speak Mandarin (I think they're Cantonese though). If anything, just use Google translate. It's not that hard. Just translate what you want them to focus on. You can even try to memorize some Mandarin for "more pressure" or "less pressure". Sure, it's a hassle, but if you don't like this, then go somewhere else that could cost you $100+ for an hour massage. Regular vs deluxe massage is just a matter of lotion, I recommend to just stick with regular. Not worth the extra $6 to use a "better" lotion (according to them). The regular one is already using Aveeno, so no problem. They have a room with 2 beds, perfect for a couple massage. Bed has a warmer. They use hot towel in the end to wipe the oil off of you. If you want them to focus on something, they might use some kind of hot stone and hot pads on that area. All in all, the price is worth what you get. Perfectly competent little foot spa on Grand. Walked in at 4 on a Saturday and got in 30 mins later for a full body massage + foot reflexology appointment. There was one girl there when we arrived and she had to call for backup (there was one customer there to whom she was already tending). A man showed up on time for our appointment and both were very professional and good at their jobs. Unlike a lot of similar places I've been to, they neither picked up their phones mid-massage or chatted with each other the whole time. The place is small (only three massage chairs in the main room), but clean, with pleasant music. The gentlemen was extremely gentle and even after asking him to apply more pressure twice, it felt like he was just applying lotion onto my body. I got a great foot massage from Joe, who frequently asked me about the pressure. It was a 4 star treatment, convenient to schedule and he was pleasant. Unfortunately, my friend joining me was never asked about the pressure. She's over 80 and has tender skin, muscles and bones. She was startled by the pressure on her arm and said "OUCH!" The masseuse said "Oh, you hurt?" My pal said "That pressure was really hard." Despite that, the foot massage was intense. She was NEVER (and I mean not EVER) asked about pressure. She didn't know how to ask for an adjustment or even that it was OK to do so. She was worried that she would offend the therapist. So she ended up with a bruise on her arm and such pain in a foot that her Chiropractor suggested she get an xray; perhaps it was broken. The xray was clear but the pain isn't. I'm embarrassed that, after telling her this was a wonderful, relaxing treat, she was injured. If you do go to Super Spa, be sure to interact with the staff and let them know if the pressure is too little or too hard. They may not ask, but it's your right to have this service done the way you want. read more

After reading the overwhelmingly positive reviews, I decided to check it out as I have been having intense muscle spasms in my back. Called ahead to make an appointment. The man on the phone didn't take down my name or number, just said he would see me at 11:30. I had asked for an hour massage with 30 minute reflexology. When I got there, they asked me if I would do the hour reflexology and 30 minute massage instead, as they only had two massage rooms. I imagine that, since it was Sunday and the lady who posted a review some time ago said she and her husband get massages every Sunday, that they were in the massage rooms. I would like to point out to this nice couple that I have had a $130 massage, and my experience here did not come close to what I can get from a pricy CMT. But, it was cheap, so I went for it. First the reflexology. Not having had this before, I did not know what to expect. I was a bit surprised that the lady did not ask if I was having specific body problems, nor did she give me time to tell here. But she seemed to speak very little English, and I could speak none of her language. She started with what another viewer claimed was a partial body massage. I feel that someone vigorously rubbing my arms and legs and head, missing all the pressure points and muscles in the process, can't be considered a massage. As for the reflexology, it was great. I was lying in a comfy chair with someone massaging my feet for an hour. I could tell exactly when she hit the part of the foot that connects to the sciatic nerve because it hurt like heck, and suddenly my back felt better. There was a small child in the reflexology area. This was fine. He was quietly entertaining himself. Unfortunately he was doing so by whispering, "rock paper scissors" over and over in a voice that will forever haunt my nightmares. Onto the thirty minute massage. Non-standard table and a tiny little sheet, which didn't really matter because they don't practice wrapping. No problem for me, but I found it odd. The same lady who rubbed my feet then attacked my back. I wasn't there to relax; I was there to get my back worked out. Which is just fine since there was nothing relaxing about the massage. The woman had very strong hands and no concept of where muscle groups reside in the human body. It seemed like she had learned a pattern and stuck to it. It was neither pleasant nor helpful. My boyfriend and I decided last minute to get a full body massage here last weekend. The place is very unassuming, but for the price (60 min for $40), it was a good deal. We both agreed that they did a great job on the upper body (shoulders, back) but could've also spent some more time for lower body, such as legs and feet. I had a male masseuse and he had strong hands and worked diligently on my shoulders and upper back. He didn't speak much English so it was hard to tell him where I wanted more work. Also, I know that it's only pretense, but I was a little weirded out when he pulled the sheet off me to work on my legs. I still had my underwear on, but it felt a bit exposing. These guys can't get their act together. We've given them multiple chances because some of their masseuses are pretty good and of course it's very affordable; however, they fumble every chance they have. From changing masseuses on the fly, to stopping massages to pick up the phone to completely blowing out reservations on the spot. The latest missed opportunity was today: made a 7pm appointment for my wife and I and when we showed up, they told us we'd have to wait for 25 min. After we showed them the reservation details from their system, they claimed they didn't have it in their "books" and resorted to their usual trick to get away with whatever they need to get away with: speaking Chinese and making you feel you're the one mistaken... Simple right? It spiraled into a conversational passive aggressive mess. What kind of massages do you do? She didn't know, then she said "medium". Wth does that mean!? "Are you the masseuse?" Like I would at ANY other business of worth?! "No, the owners will not call you back." ...And hung up on me. Weird, must have been a miscommunication. So I call back to leave a message and number. Again she said she would not take my number and the owners would not call me back. Hung-up on me a second time. I don't think I've ever been hung up on in my entire adult life, for any reason. He is very familiar with the muscles and joints that collect the most aches and pains. I work in a restaurant and came here because my shoulder was in deep pain and he noticed it immediately and worked it out without me even mentioning that was where my pain was. I'm a professional dog groomer so I opted for the 30 min foot reflexology and 30 min massage. It was chilly out and the entire staff was concerned about my comfort making sure there were blankets and heaters. I worked with Bruce who did wonders on the knots all over. He consistently checked in about pressure and asked if it was okay to switch over to deep tissue on certain areas of my spine that I guess really needed it. Suffice it to say, I felt like a new person when I left! Since it was a Thursday, I even got a 10% discount - WHAT?!? Apparently, M - Th appointments get a discount. If you are looking for the new, clean, fancy, big and beautiful place to do massage, this is not for you. This just a old, small place with friendly people who do their best to make sure you have good massage. I didn't like the foot massage station are right next to the front door which other people who passing by will see me. Otherwise, the guy did a wonderful job for my foot and body massage. I'm glad they take credit cards and you can even add tips on it. 5 stars is for how good I felt after I had massage there. read more
