I've just gone and not requested anyone specific and all .e times I've had a good experience. The place is clean, well run and maintained. One gender neutral bathroom in the back. A big room for the massages separated by cloth. Well appointed inside with Thai music that is soothing. The 60 min deep tissue was too short so I recommend d the 90' min. They are very efficient with the check in because every client fills out a chart and can circle areas to focus on and x out areas to avoid. Called in advance to book 90-minute massages (Thai Therapeutic, oil was used) for two people. They will take down your credit card information as a hold and will tell you about their late/cancellation policies. They called the day before the appointment to confirm. Street parking only (no dedicated lot), but it is also close to the Bart station. Upon arrival, we were asked to take our shoes off and wear their slippers. The massage beds are sectioned off by large curtains so it feels like its own room. I've never gotten a professional massage before so I didn't really know what usual procedures were supposed to be like. An FAQ on their website or a verbal run-down ahead of time would've been nice. When they had called the day prior to confirm the appointment and I asked if I had to do anything to prepare or know what to expect, they said there was nothing to prepare and to just come in ~10 minutes early. Anyways, I still had a great massage here and the masseuse did a great job of making me feel comfortable and focusing on the areas I had circled. I feel very lucky to have found this place through Yelp. They place a very high priority on cleanliness and sanitation. Clients are still have to wear a surgical masks and there are sanitizer stations everywhere. Doctors and nurses are often their clientele, so that is some indication about their quality level. I have had both a Thai Therapeutic massage for 60 minutes and a lymph drainage massage for 90 minutes. Lisa was my masseuse for both of them. I felt amazing after both massages. I think she does an amazing job, and it's rare to find someone who is certified in lymph drainage work. The ambiance is calm and relaxing. There are curtains between the client tables, and there is New Age music playing. Sometimes it doesn't completely drown out the person at the table next to you, but I have not had issues the two times that I have been there. read more

I came here for the Thai massage and to preface, I'm very picky about masseuses because I have scoliosis (so my spine is crooked curvy) and have chronic back pain due to that. The masseuse I got was random, I couldn't choose from list like at other therapy places but I did explain my condition and even draw out where my spine curves. The masseuse still put lots of pressure on my spine which is something you should never do, and it was very painful and left me sore afterward for days. I think if you have a straight spine without many special conditions your massage could be enjoyable, but as someone with specific needs I don't think this is the right place for me. read more

We came in to get the Thai massage but a fellow customer who had just finished their treatment highly recommended the Thai Therapeutic Massage (I think Thai massage is "dry" with clothes on whereas the therapeutic is a hybrid with massage oil + thai technique). We switched to Thai Therapetic and bless that fellow customer because she knew what she was talking about. Massage was *chefs kiss*. It hurt, a lot, but in a really good way. My bf and I have carried a ton of knots in our back from frequent travel and poor posture from WFH situations and they got them all. My bf thought this was one of the best thai massages he had gotten outside of Thailand. Literally felt so much tension leave my body after just one session - already scheming to go back. Didn't get the name of our therapists but based on the reviews of other patrons, I don't think you could go wrong with any of them. Reservations can be made online or on the phone. An hour massage is about $80 before tax and tip, which is fair and on par with prices in the Bay. Very no frills place. This was a great massage especially if you want to get all the knots out of your back and neck. While I was booked for a Thai deep tissue massage, I was recommended the Thai therapeutic massage and I did it. Everything is super clean. The slippers offered are clean and all shoes stay in the lobby. The massage occurs in big, dimly lit room with multiple massage beds separated by curtains. It's spacious enough to get changed. The massage beds are warm and wide. I asked for medium to firm pressure and she sure delivered. She stepped on my back and dug into every single tight muscles to get out all the knots. She found tightness that I didn't know existed. 75% of the time was focused on my back and neck. The legs, arms, and chest were targeted as well. The one hour went by so quickly! So I've probably had maybe 10 massages here- usually when my regular masseuse is booked- and they've usually been good, but you never know which masseuse you'll get nor their actual skill. I asked for a medium pressure massage and felt like I got beat the hell up. I could tell this masseuse does not know anatomy whatsoever and is not professionally trained because her technique was extremely bad. She stood on and rotated her feet over my bones, rather than focusing on isolating and massaging my muscles. She jabbed her elbows over tendons and into nerve bundles, which was extremely painful. I felt like a xylophone or keyboard- she ran her elbows up and down my back like she was playing Great Balls of Fire! Her movements felt extremely hurried (and I have no idea why she was rushing because faster isn't better) which made the intense pressure she put on my bones even worse. My right arm/hand and lower back now hurt... I'll have to go to my regular, licensed masseuse to fix this. I probably should have up gotten up and left during the massage but I kept hoping it would get better because I don't often have time to get massages so I wanted to stick it out. I feel bad giving this review because most of my massages here have been fairly good, but there's no way to predict how it'll go and I can't risk getting injured because they're not formally trained. I wish I hadn't come here because now I feel worse than I did before my massage. This is the second time that I've gotten a really bad massage here so I figured that I should update my review. I'll check for bruising tomorrow. :( If you do go here, I'd avoid getting any kind of foot massage done because there are so many bones in the foot that you don't want to risk getting a foot injury. And go early in the morning because I think they get tired in the afternoons and rely on their elbows and feet more, which increases risk of extreme pressure and decreases dexterity so they're likely to hit the wrong spots. NEXT DAY UPDATE: I'm super sore- not in a good way. Mainly my back (no visible bruising- thankfully!), but I'm still feeling pain along my right arm and right palm. So yeah... I think I'll just be going to my licensed masseuse from now on. On Monday at 749pm I receive a text asking to call back to confirm again or appointment will be canceled. Place closes at 8 pm (11mins later). I was busy didn't see the text so replied asking to confirm appointment at 10:08pm. This morning received a thumb up for my confirmation text and now at 945am received a text message saying appointment was canceled. It's been hard for me to find a good masseuse in Oakland. Found Chaiyo on Yelp. Booked a 90 min deep tissue to work out the kinks in my shoulder and neck. They require you to wear a mask inside (no matter your vaccination status) and switch your shoes with their slippers. I had Ya as my masseuse. The treatment started out slow with just massage through the sheet for quite some time, I think for the circulation. However, once she got started she really got in there with my shoulders and surrounding areas. Some of the massage techniques I didn't experience before and felt weird at first but it worked because I walked out feeling loose in my neck and shoulders. She also used her feet in a lot of areas. This was less of a relaxing massage and more of bodywork but I didn't mind since I really just needed the knots out. Price is also reasonable. Overall, it was a good experience and I would go back. Some little details prevented me from giving it 5 stars. You only have curtains between each massage so you can hear some noise of other customers coming in and out, and speaking. Wearing the mask when face down made it really hard to breathe especially with such deep tissue body work. I've been to other places where if you are face down you don't need to wear the mask until you face up since you are breathing into the floor. But again, for the price and my results, I would go back. read more

After a year and a half of being stuck behind my laptop working from home, my back and neck had been killing me given that I hadn't had a massage since February 2020 (and I'm someone who would go about once a month prior to the pandemic; it's my little treat). I just moved to the area and finally took the plunge since it's super convenient and had read the raving reviews on Yelp about how great they've been with COVID precautions. As usual, Yelpers did not lead me astray! I booked their therapeutic Thai massage over the phone and arrived to find the owner, Henry, there to check in me. To ensure cleanliness, they have hand sanitizer, bags to put your shoes in, clean slippers, and new masks for you. I felt really safe there! Now, this was my very first Thai massage so I had no idea what to expect. They really do walk all over you! But they have bars over the beds so that you can have less pressure if requested. I had Jasmine as my masseuse and she was fantastic. She went to TOWN on getting my tension and knots out. I was definitely sore the next day, but I personally like a deep massage. Just be sure to hydrate a ton after your treatment. I am so grateful to Jasmine, Henry, and their team for aiding my poor back and neck! I'm completely baffled by the nearly 5-star average review of this place. Maybe they grabbed a random person off the street to fill in for my massage at the last minute? Because that's pretty much what it felt like. This woman seemed to have zero clue what she was doing and at multiple times during my "massage" I started planning out what I could say to just walk out early without making things incredibly awkward. But the people pleaser in me couldn't bring myself to do it this time, I guess. And I guess for all the money I was paying, and the time I'd blocked out of my day for this "luxury" experience I'd decided to gift myself, the sunk cost fallacy also kept me hoping it would somehow miraculously turn around and get better. But no. It didn't. She just kept pounding and poking at random spots on my body, apparently not even knowing the difference between muscle, tendon, and bone. There was no sense of service, no warmth, she never checked in with me, introduced herself, or asked what I was looking for or feeling. She just kept slapping cold oil or lotion or whatever it was on me and poking and pulling and pushing away. I had to ask more than once for her to lower the pressure because the pain started becoming intolerable (and I typically go for more "sports"-style massages, so it's not like I'm a stranger to heavy pressure). I was constantly bracing in self-protective mode because with the crazy stretches I felt at certain points like I could even end up getting injured. She also went weirdly close to my crotch at some point and I ended up pulling the sheet further up my leg in an attempt to signal that I wasn't comfortable with it. Finally, at the end, this guy started his massage next to me and immediately started loudly groaning every 10 seconds. First of all - just gross, dude...your poor masseuse. But also, that is a flaw of the design of this type of place because you don't actually get a "room" but a space cordoned off by curtains. So you hear everything, including gross guys making gross noises that you really don't want to hear. The only time I've had a worse massage than this was when I got a $20-something massage at a massage school from a student (and actually most of them were way better than this lady, it was just one guy I went to there who was bad). Oh, also, their face pillow was hard and uncomfortable and left a huge red mark on my face for the entire rest of the day. I would never, ever come back here even though they are incredibly close to my house, and if I hadn't been too embarrassed I would have asked for my money back. All the five star reviews make sense, it most definitely lives up to the hype. Let me start by saying how easy the booking process is online, and they have a lenient reschedule/cancellation policy up to four hours before your appointment time. Came here on a Tuesday morning, found parking pretty easy on the street. Was greeted by the receptionist in a cozy area and offered slippers to change in to and a fresh mask- which surprisingly was really breathable and comfortable to wear during the massage. The massage area is divided by curtains but still maintains privacy, not flimsy like some places. Clean bathroom area and the sheets were so nice and thick and didn't smell like oil which I created appreciated- and they use a really nice lotion that doesn't leave that greasy film when you walk out so you can go about your day rather than running home to shower. Also love that the headrest was on the bed rather than sticking out in the front, made for a much more comfortable session I wish more places opted for this. The massage itself was heavenly. It was everything I could've asked for - my therapist was Noi who had the most incredible grip and intuitive touch. She took her time adjusted her pressure as I asked because I like my massages to hurt just enough to feel like its working. After 90 minutes of her working out all my tender spots and finishing me with a magnificent stretch, I walked out feeling like a million bucks. Highly recommend. read more

We had just packed up our entire home in Chicago, driven three days nonstop in a uhaul and then unloaded everything in our new place in Oakland and our bodies were wrecked. We literally crawled into Chaiyo for our 60 min Thai therapeutic massages. The place is incredibly clean and we felt very safe as everything was disinfected constantly. The massage rooms are private with curtains and a solo table. The massage was life changing...the masseuses are all certified and they know EXACTLY WHERE TO FOCUS. It was incredible. I had knots in places I never knew existed and they worked them all out. The therapeutic massage is a combination of deep tissue and Thai stretching which is exactly what my fiancé and I needed...my fiancé is tough when it comes to reviewing massages and he said this has been hands down the best massage he's ever received. Ever since finding this place in 2021 it has been CONSISTENT at giving me the massage I need to help my chronic neck and shoulder fatigue from my job (mostly on the computer all day). No matter which masseuse you get from this place, it's guaranteed that you will get all your pain points addressed.
