When I mentioned that's why I was there, the staff were so sweet- they gave me some extra fries, a free cookie, and wrote "Get well soon :)" on the bag. Placed a 6:30 PM takeout order, but it wasn't ready until 7:00 PM. When we arrived to pick it up, staff dismissed the delay as being "a little bit behind," but a 30-minute wait for a scheduled pickup is unacceptable. Very poor communication and zero respect for the customer's time. read more

Great spot in Victoria! Definitely worth getting a meal here if you're in town! We started with the crispy eggplant. It was perfectly fried, with nutty tahini to dip into. We also had a few chicken shawarmas, falafel bowl, soup and beer. Oh yeah, they have beer on tap! So nice! Everything was great! For lunch, I went to Superbaba, and it was excellent. It's important that they create fresh pita breads every day. In a heated oven, you can see them baking the bread. Pita bread has a soft, slightly chewy texture. The falafel wrap I ordered was fantastic. The fritters made of chickpeas were crunchy. The wrap's crisp, fresh vegetables were wonderful. Exquisite flavours are present. I adore their contemporary style appeal. Great service! I also made the decision to try the turmeric cookie. I loved the rose water as well as the turmeric. In my perspective, the rose water adds a really distinctive and special flowery note. The cookie's texture was pleasing, with a somewhat crisp exterior and a soft, chewy interior. read more

One of my favourite places in Victoria (so far) for a quick bite. The falafel's are warm and crunchy, the cauliflowers and hummus flavours blend so deliciously together and the salad is a hearty cucumber heavy crunchy mix. Their pita is so fluffy and fresh. I'm not a fan of pickled turnips in any form, so I omit those but they can add a nice zesty crunch to the party bowl. read more

Delicious bowls and wraps. We were a group of 4 and tried the falafel, and chicken bowls/wraps. All were delicious. A nice fresh lunch/ dinner option that's different from the rest. Superbaba is a neon-lighted restaurant offering casual, Israeli-inspired wraps and bowls in a dineresque setting. The bowls were built on a base of greens and yellow turmeric rice, and the Falafel Bowl came with three falafels, fried cauliflower, hummus, tomato/cucumber salad, and pickled turnips, and the entire bowl was drizzled with tahini, spicy green shug, and a spicy red sauce. The falafel balls were rather greasy and overfried, but the lemony hummus was nice and creamy, and the salads and pickles had a nice refreshing crunch. I also tried the Steak Bowl, which came with juicy pieces of grilled steak along with hummus, sumac onions, and pickled cucumbers. The flavors of both the bowls were on point, and everything went nicely with the triangles of thin, chewy pita bread we ordered on the side. Though not the most authentic-tasting Israeli eats, everything here made for a good-value, delicious, and healthy meal. read more

Don't get me wrong, the food is amazing, the pita baked fresh everyday. What disturbs me about this place is that it was 11:58 am; two minutes before opening. I had just witnessed someone leaving the restaurant as I was nearing the door. I pulled on it and realized it was locked, the employee inside pointing to his imaginary watch; "it opens at noon." I had a bottle of red wine in a fabric shopping bag and somehow it slipped from my wrist and broke right in front of the door. The worker looked stunned! I thought the person that had just left the door unlocked. Businesses must not be hurting that bad, back in the day it would have been open a few minutes before, perhaps by someone running a quick errand just before opening or by a worker standing behind the counter watching the traffic go by. He wasn't doing anything! I just don't get people these days. If you're the owner maybe you should have a chat with your employees about what good customer service is. Careful though, you may hurt their feelings and some may quit. read more

With a name like Superbaba, we knew it was an experience we had to have during our trip to Victoria. The restaurant, with its high ceilings and neon signs, specializes in Mediterranean dishes that you can take out. We tried a chicken wrap with delicious Schwarma chicken, crispy cabbage, French fries, and sauce all wrapped in a fresh pita wrap. So yummy! Caveat: I'm not a Mediterranean food person. The husband is though. I can still appreciate good Mediterranean food though and both of us give Superpapa four stars. The falafel sando was the best. Next best was the fried eggplant with egg sando. In last place was our salad of chicken served over lentils/rice and a dressed salad which was still fine. The best part was the baba g. You can find some cool places wandering around at night in new cities. I was happy to find some middle Eastern food spot open late that wasn't a late night stereotypical schwarma joint. It was a pretty nice spot as there was plenty of room to sit, and the food was prepared pretty quick. They had some pretty groovy tunes on as well, so it was a nice relaxing break from late night wandering. I order the Sabich Bowl ($12) which was a great price for the amount of flavor that came packed into the dish. The main component of the dish was fried eggplant dressed with zhug hot sauce, which was this green creamy sauce with a little bit of spice and a touch of sweetness. Then there was the mango amba sauce for extra sweetness on the side, which I didn't use much of. Under the eggplant were some tasty greens, a cucumber tomato salad, and some chilled rice with roasted chickpeas. God the chickpeas we're good, I'm gonna try roasting chickpeas myself one day. This isn't somewhere I'd take someone to dine, it's a place I'd easily take someone for a cheap and quick bite to eat. The food has plenty of variety, and the restaraunt has a hefty amount of character. Is be happy to come back to try their other dishes if I was in Victoria more often. read more

There's a large indoor area to safely wait for your food. I've ordered here three times in the last couple of weeks, and I've been amazed each time at how large the portions have been. Today After suggesting a website taking an order when the restaurant is closed is ridiculous I was informed that I'm being ridiculous. Sorry. In this case the customer is 100% in the right. the restaurant is doing the right thing by refunding the order but could have simply said sorry and refunded the money. Now. This place is a new collaboration between the owners of Tacofino and Cafe Medina in Vancouver. Both powerhouse institutions in Van, anything to come from these guys is sure to be well thought out and tasty. This place is those things and more. It's a welcome replacement to what was there before (Pig). Superbaba is fresh, healthy, and delicious fast food, that tastes nothing like fast food. You can get most items in either falafel, chicken, or steak versions. You can then make them into either sandwiches, green bowls, or grain bowls. The pita is soft, gooey and doughy. Just as they should be. They only make a fixed amount in the morning and when they run out - they're out. Good motivation to go early while they're still around. You can always check their Instagram before you go, as they generally post when they run out. The halva iced coffee is really good, it's a combination of grain/nut flavours and is found all over the Middle East, mainly in sweets. Prices are pretty reasonable for everything except for the side cauliflower... which is a whopping 9$. You could practically order another main meal for that. It's not even large either, so not sure what they were thinking with that. Overall, the food reminded me a lot of Nuba in Vancouver - no bad thing. If you're into Middle Eastern food/shawarma then I'd definitely recommend it. read more

The food was cold overall and this unappetizing. Worst of all, the food immediately gave me the runs!! Had to go to the washroom 3 times over the next hour and a half. There's not reason for undercooked or contaminated food!! Do Not Go Here!! I wish I had the option for negative stars! Update: the owner responded and instead of taking ownership of the negative experience at his restaurant, and trying to take step to mend his mistakes, he instead chose to diminish my feelings in a crass and negative manner and dismissed my review. This restaurant owner should really think twice about how to treat customers...this is absolutely disgusting behaviour from anyone , let alone this restaurant owner. So we were in Vic for the day from Vancouver and were looking forward to trying this Medina/Tacofino collaboration. And hoorah for what were were treated to! I had the chicken sammich and shared a side of fried cauliflower. Both were over-the-top in terms of flavour. The sandwich has loads of sumac-laden goodness, and was piled with fresh and pickled crunchy. The pita was chewy and sensuous. I'm not sure if I've called a breadstuff sensuous before? The cauliflower was en pointe too. I can tell they're trying to do their own take on Nuba's fried cauliflower (aka Najib's Special). Superbaba's is a bit less fried, a bit less scorched, and a bit crunchier. But it is absolutely packed with a punch of tangy flavour that you'll be sure to say "zowie" over. read more

The food is pretty good, but in my opinion just a bit pricey for something that's only going to last me one meal. But not pricey enough to dissuade me from eating there.
