We were so pleasantly surprised by Village Taverna. What a gem of a restaurant in Cook Street Village! The food was so fresh with lots of options and friendly service. The prices are reasonable too. My husband is celiac and there were lots of gluten free options for him. Lots of choices for vegetarians and vegans too. read more

Food was good, but average for Greek in Victoria. Calamari was large and the pita wraps were all tasty (tried the chicken and lamb). Tomatoes in the Greek salad and pita wraps tasted low quality and instead of Greek salad on the pita you just get a few sliced tomatoes which wasn't great. Our server was very helpful and kind while the service was also very quick. Ambiance was normal, only odd thing was the washroom is shared with the building next door and due to this, is not in great condition. Worth a visit if you're in the village but there's better options in downtown Victoria. read more

Ah, the Village Taverna! A treasure in the cook street village! Great staff, great food, great vibes all around...and a great patio that is rockstar for a second/third date (depending on how you do things! ). Their baklava for dessert has to be Top 10 in the entire solar system! read more

Are these people serious????? The $20 moussaka "platter" is robbery for the size and the TASTE is god awful mush. No discernable potato or eggplant layer and the bechamel was grey mush. The spanakopita is a flat mushy piece of pastry with barely a spread of some kind of spinach mixture. Feta? None in sight. The Greek salad has a scant sprinkle of feta. No cubes here. This is unlike any Greek food I have ever had. Poor quality, inauthentic and poor value. Will never order from here again. read more

Not sure how to say this without sounding snotty....the entire food was dismal. Pita was hard almost as if the bag was left open for days unsealed, tomatoes in the Greek salad were mushy and tasteless, the spanakopita I didn't even eat because the water from the Greek salad got the pastry all wet and it was tasteless. This is my 3rd and last visit to this place, it wasn't all a meal I want to re-eat again. read more

The food here is delicious, and often even at great deals! If you like fancy Greek food, give this place a try. The service is nice and fast when you take into account the quality of the food you're getting. Great for family events or dates too. Terrible. Ordered over door dash and the whole thing cost $51.00. It was not worth a penny. I can usually pay about half that much and get decent meals, even through food couriers. The chicken was poorly seasoned and had a terrible texture. The humus was inedible. You could barely taste the dressing in the Greek salad, which was extraordinarily scant on feta cheese and olives ( 3 I think). The calamari and Tzatziki were ok. Passable at best. The pita was actually fresh and ended up being the only decent thing in the meal. I will never order food from this restaurant again. My recommendation is to avoid it and save your money for actual cuisine. read more

As a treat for Mothers Day and our anniversay we ordered Greek food for dinner. The wrong order was delvered and a call was placed to the restaurant. The woman who took the call was abrupt and placed the blame on the delivery driver, and offered no resolution to the problem. We are extremely disappointed with this reaction. read more

I have had breakfast or lunch at the Village a few times now and can say that it's amazing. Same great food and service as the other Village locations in Estevan Village and Royal Oak. I have tried the Bennincio Del Toro and really like it. I am not a Benny sort of person and this was delicious. Check out their specials. We've been here twice, and we really WANT to love it, however the food has been 'meh' each time. The lamb was dry both times. We did like the tzatziki sauce on the souvlaki. The service was perfect as well. Very friendly and competent staff. We'll go again and hope that quality improves. read more

We had a large gathering at the Village Taverna Last night for my Birthday. The staff knocked it right out of the park, the service was bang on. Some of our party had been to the restaurant when the previous Owners had owned it, and they loved the new Humous and the Spanakopita and the delicious sauces that are now made in house. The fresh quality of the food and tender lamb dishes will defs make this a regular visit. Will 100% visit again. read more

This place was the perfect solution to a very hungry family (including a 1-year-old and a 4-year-old) that just arrived in town. The service was fast and food, delicious. The selection of Greek beers and wines was a nice touch. We ask for NO ONIONS on the donairs we always order, and they ALWAYS PUT ONIONS ON ANYWAY! Then they have the audacity to ask if we are allergic to the onions. Who cares?! If the customer says no onions and is ready to shell out $50 just for some donairs and spanakopita, you should listen to them! They used to be called "Eugene's" and had a location downtown back in the day, then they moved to Fort and Foul Bay, and now they are in Cook Street Village. The hostess was my favourite part of the dining experience. She was on the ball and even took our orders when the waitresses failed to do so. The food was good, but not "out of this world" or anything. The gyro was excellent, as was the chicken, meatballs, and tzatziki. The pita bread seems to be warmed up on the grill and the dolmades, while nicely presented, seems like they were out of a can (they had the flat sides that come from being compressed together). The hummus seems to be store made as well. While I don't mind these things, I guess that I just expect things like that to be made fresh so it was a bit disappointing. If I could give this place no stars I would. Tonight, seven of us wanted a table. There were three tables available; one was reserved but then it sounded like we could have had that nice table if there were five people but then the hostess presented us with the option of sitting at the large table in the middle of the restaurant or she could put a few single tables together so we could sit near the window and have a partial bench. We decided to take the window option. As we were setting up the three single tables, the other waitress came over and said thier boss/owner said we can't sit at the window because they want to hold the single tables for couples that might come in. Seriously?? You don't want to give customers, who are in your restaurant, guaranteed to spend a couple hundred dollars, what they want because you want to keep tables open for business that you don't know will even show up? That is not smart business. That kind of treatment is clear you don't want to stay in business for the long term. Extremely rude staff. Walked in to order something to go just after 2pm on a Thursday the guy behind the counter barked we're closed. No welcome or nothing. Restaurant was half full too. Have ordered here several times at the same time in the afternoon never been a problem. They advertise that they're open all day 12-8pm. Looked it the it was the owner who was behind the counter. They obviously had no respect for paying customers. I know quite a few people who've live in the area had mixed reviews about the service but I've have gone back anyway. However I will ensure never to give these these entitled people my business again. Service is generally not great in Victoria but this is unacceptable! Disappointed. The spinach "pie" was more like a spinach "biscuit". Barely any filling and way over baked. When we complained the waitress said "well everyone makes it different ". Lol. Surprised to learn these are former owners of Eugenes as they made great ones. Moussaka was delicious. No one fancied any of the 3 deserts on menu. Nothing to rave about here. Went there last night for dinner with another couple. Atmosphere excellent, greeted at the door by a smiling server who escorted us to our table. Our server was pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful. We all enjoyed our meal and was pleasantly surprised when the bill came. Very reasonable! Will definitely be going back. read more
