I've had long hair, angled bobs, pixies, faux hawks and now my current, highly stylized short on the sides long in the middle do- as well as an array of complex color schemes. He's excellent. Strangers, who are often hairdressers themselves frequently stop me to compliment, admire and take a closer look. And, he's got personality too- he makes me feel like a million dollars everytime I visit. Definitely recommend- especially for short cuts.

Having that bit of pampering was important to his wedding day but his usual spot doesn't do reservations and would offer no promises. We found signal hill because it's by our jeweller and caterer and although they don't do reservations they told them to be there right when they open at 9 and they would be in and out sure thing. 9am was already tight and we told them this 3 days before the wedding and they told us to chill. Well the guy that does the shaving was seriously late that morning. Hubby says more that half an hour. The shave when he got it was poor and required it be redone. He didn't get his haircut done the day before like I suggested and unfortunately was stuck doing it that morning making the guys more and more late. The barber didn't apologize and laughed it off and threw our schedule into a tailspin when the guys were over an hour behind by the end of it. Weddings are often late because of the bride. Well, I got to sit around waiting for the guys. I'm not sure what this place is like when there isn't the stress and time pressures of a wedding but their attitude rubs me a bit the wrong way. I get that things happen but an apology goes a long way.

MVP's core market is men, and they seek to please their core market however possible. They provide an array of televisions and video game consoles for your entertainment while you wait, an assortment of magazines to read, an internet connected computer, and a foosball table (seriously). Additionally, each station has a TV which you are provided a remote control for. As far as entertainment goes, definitely the best experience at a salon for me. But how about the cut? Although I've had a couple of bad experiences with new hairdressers, most of my visits to MVP have been successful. Most of my cuts were done by Lubna (who I strongly recommend), but some of the other staff had a hand once and a while. I particularly enjoy the head massage and hot cloth on my face, and of course the haircut!

Two years, 3 stylists, 6 haircuts, and hundreds of dollars later I was starting to think no one could do a simple, short, inverted bob. In frustration I posted to facebook and Good Friend came to the rescue. She recommend Bill at Hairloom85. Good Friend has gone to Bill since 1988. I booked the appointment, and off I went. At first I was a bit taken back by the simple homegrown, bare-bones salon. There are only 2 stylists in the salon - Bill and Kim - a husband/wife team. Then I was really taken back by how warm and friendly Bill was, in totally appropriate ways, with the client before me. She was going on a trip to somewhere he'd been - he went to back room and pulled out maps for her, with a promise he'd check his files at home for more information and call her if he found any. Once she was gone, he introduced himself to me and invited me to sit in 'the chair'. I showed him a photo of what I wanted. He said "yes, I can do that for you..about 3 cuts from now." He then showed me why it wasn't do-able and what the previous stylists had done that made it temporarily impossible. In the final analysis he gave me a lovely cut and we are on our way to what I want - except that by the time we get to cut #3 I suspect I'll trust him enough to let him play a little. And the bonus - he's charges about 25% less than any of the stylists I've been to in the past 2 years. Such a sweet deal - fab cut at an amazing price! BTW - Good Friend now lives in another city - I Facebooked her a massive thank you for sharing her hair stylist with me.

Mahogany is very close to my house so I thought I would pop in and check them out. The lady in the store was very helpful and helped me pick out some extensions which turned out to be beautiful and very high quality. Also the box they came in allowed them to lay at their full length, so I didn't need to straighten them the first time I used them. I wish I got the name of the lady who helped me, she was so friendly and kind to me when I was having the worst day and feeling horrible about myself, I really would like to thank her.

When I finally picked out the color I wanted, it was almost as if they didn't want you to leave with anything, they were extremely rude and lazy.
