    After the cut
    Anna T.

I am extremely disappointed in this hair salon. Their nail salon lacks communication with customers and is unprofessional. I came in the second time on the same day just wanting a shorter cut than what I previously got. I was willing to pay twice because I was receiving service. I told the same lady that what I got the first time was specifically what I wanted but and inch shorter. She did not ask me to clarify but I still told her word for word that I loved what she did with my hair early but I just wanted shorter in length. I still wanted the soft layers but I wanted my hair cut shorter. I then showed her how short I wanted it and I showed her twice. Regardless, she probably did not pay attention because she did the exact opposite. I was not rude or impatient. I complimented her skills and told her what I wanted her to do, in addition, I waited for her to finish her other customer. I also asked her if I could see how short she would cut my hair before doing the layers and she replied with "no." Is that how it is at every salon? I can't simply just see how short you cut my hair? Since I was younger, I thought it was impolite to talk back so I let her cut my hair and believed that she understood what i meant. I repeated what I wanted about three times just in case she didn't understand but she cut my hair earlier so I thought she knew what I meant. After she cut my hair, it was much shorter than I asked for and these layers were not cut properly (what I was told by a more expensive hair salon in wellington). In the end, I had to go to a different hair salon and cut a lot of my hair to get rid of most of the layers.

While I was there, a client came in openly talking about being in rehab and proceeded to be beyond demanding, rude, and completely unrealistic from the moment she sat down. Her hair was severely knotted, and the stylist spent over an hour carefully brushing it out--something many salons wouldn't even attempt. After that, the stylist beautifully matched her natural hair color to extensions, which objectively looked seamless and well done. Despite this, the client continuously complained, insisting the color was "wrong" and demanding it be made lighter. The stylist calmly and professionally explained that going lighter would seriously damage her already fragile hair. That advice was clearly given with the client's best interest in mind--not convenience or profit. As the extension service was nearly finished (and looked great), the client escalated--complaining loudly, creating a scene, and making it clear she was trying to avoid paying for the service altogether. Her behavior became so disruptive that the stylist, rightfully, refused to continue, and management had to ask her to leave. What stood out most was how gracefully and respectfully the entire team handled the situation. No arguing, no embarrassment tactics--just calm boundaries and professionalism. It's refreshing to see a salon that protects both its staff and its standards. Hair professionals are artists and service providers--not punching bags. This salon deserves full credit for standing by their team and maintaining class under pressure. I would trust them again in a heartbeat.

I initially missed their entrance because there was no signage with their business name at the front entrance. When I arrived I was greeted by Nicole who is the receptionist. She was very friendly and immediately welcomed me with a smile. Even though I had an appointment, she quickly informed me they were delayed due to being short staffed. Once I sat down, I noticed how smoky the air was in the salon. I'm assuming this was due to all the blowouts being done but 29 minutes later one of the stylist opened a side door to clear out all the smoke. The salon is very clean with bachata music playing the entire time. It's what I expected and more. Everything from the shampoo to actual blowout was great. Wendy who is the owner completed my blowout which came out beautifully. She was professional and informative during my service. I will definitely return in the future.

Making the appointment was easy and the staff was all friendly from start to finish. I got a great wash, deep condition, and I left with a great blowout and flat iron that lasted as I was hoping it would. I was offered a keratin treatment when if I came back to "control" my roots better. I thanked them and left. The issue came when I began washing my hair on my own and noticing that my curls weren't reverting back. Because all my curls aren't super tight , I initially did not notice. It wasn't until I professionally colored my hair with bleach and my hair later broke off, that I realized my hair must have had some sort of relaxer placed in my hair. I genuinely believe that there was some type of chemical relaxer in the deep conditioning that I received. The first thing my hair stylist back home (Jersey) asked me when he touched my hair is "why is it so straight, did you get a perm!?" I have been natural for the last 10 years and I am beyond frustrated that I have to now grow out a perm that I didn't ask for or cut off the damaged hair and let my curls start fresh. While the staff is friendly and everyone who was being styled while I was there left looking great, if you aren't looking to leave with your hair altered in unsolicited manners, I would not advise going here. The service is 5 star, but the integrity of my hair cannot allow me to give more than 2 stars.

For someone who is finicky about who cut his hair and where I go to do it, Saltlight has surpassed my expectations. I discovered Saltlight after needing to find another salon/stylist that could be a long-term solution, after the place I had been a loyal customer for 12 years closed down. Initially, I had looked for a place by my office but discovered most of them were too pricey for a men's cut. While you could argue I could have gone to Supercuts or any of those nonsense hair cut franchises, you get what you pay for as well. And none of those places would have done justice to my hair -- based on prior experiences. Fast forward to where I decided to find on Yelp a place that was closer to my house, and Saltlight couldn't have been more conveniently located (just a few blocks). A small, quaint establishment, Saltlight is nestled next to Common Grounds and across the street from the Book Cellar and Revelry on S J Street. With white-painted walls, the salon makes full use of its space with at least four (4) stations for hair styling, and a little lounge at the front for those waiting or hobnobbing with the staff on tweed-woven (I want to say tweed, but might be a different) chairs. They have a cute, antique desk where they serve water and snacks while you wait, or if you want something to eat in between snips, coloring, and styling -- depending on what you're having done. I scheduled my first appointment through Yelp with Laura, who was incredibly sweet, friendly, and knows how to cut my hair. I have been going there ever since. Even when she hasn't been able to do my hair, Erica has also done a great job. Every time I come in, it's like walking into one of my favorite haunts -- only, I'm just there to get my hair cut. You feel welcome and at home. Everyone knows you are, or at least knows you're a regular. You don't feel like a number in the crowd. Saltlight is one of the reasons why the block between Lake Ave and 1st Ave S on South J Street is becoming a very special part of Downtown Lake Worth.
