I have natural kinky curly hair. I haven't straightened my hair in YEARS and decided I wanted a blowout and haircut. Service was fast and seemed good but my hair smelled disgusting like burnt chemicals. Finally washed it and the smell is still slightly there and scalp feels very sensitive. Also my curls on the top portion of my hair hair is severely damaged, like pin straight. It seems like it was relaxed. I'm convinced that the nasty smell was indeed a relaxer that wasn't properly washed out. I'm not sure if this is one of those salons that slip relaxer in the shampoo/conditioner or if they just use so much heat without heat protectors and that damaged my hair. But regardless of what it was that damaged my hair, I'm pretty disappointed and won't be coming back. Don't get your hair done here is you're natural. read more

Dcu Doucd 30 years of natural hair, my hair is completely damaged; the texture has changed. I went for a wash and a blow out to attend my fathers funeral. My hair was washed, I'd experienced a little scalp tingling, after the shampoo was rinsed ; a solution was put on my hair...instantly I felt a STINGING/BURNING sensation. I asked KATY WHY is my scalp BURNING, she didn't answer; just rinsed the solution out of my hair. After flat ironing my hair, it was BONE STRAIGHT; I asked if she could curl my hair a little for volume, she did something then said she's finished. I looked in the mirror, shook my head in disbelief; paid then left. On my route home, I stopped to purchased an electric curling irons. I attempted to curl my hair, hair wouldn't curl; so I overnight curl rod my hair; no curls. My HAIR WILL not CURL, not 1 curl...hair remained BONE STRAIGHT. I panic, I shampoo my hair 3 times; hair finally started to loose straighten; but not to it's natural curl pattern. I'd deep condition my hair, in hopes to gain more curls; this didn't work - only 10% of a curl pattern, NOT the original curl pattern. Now at this point, MY SCALP IS RED AND IRRITATED. I am really freaking out, I googled reviews for "NY DOMINICAN SALON" - NUMEROUS/PAGES of reviews of the assumption of CHEMICALS in products used. I am irate, I call the salon, conveyed the above mentioned, per , Laura: " I see you had a blowout, there shouldn't have been any chemicals used. Call back Thursday and whomever is here will ask KATY what she used on your hair. I am really sorry about your experience." I asked for the managers name, the name JACKIE was giving. I call Thursday, spoke with JACKIE - she stated NO chemicals were used, maybe i had previous HEAT DAMAGE. I replied:" I DIDNT have heat damaged the day before my appointment, I could send her pictures- I'd per prepped my hair the day before my appointment- washed and deep conditioned & and took pictures, so that i could compare and leave a review. Jackie agreed for me to send pictures, id texted pictures; called 8 times to confirm she'd received them. JACKIE wouldn't answer nor reply, I'd called from a different number; she answered...pretend as if she didn't understand English, then hung up. Months later, my scalp is still irritated and itchy, loosing hair in clumpy, fried damaged hair. I've made claims with BBB, other state authorities/officials and pursuing additional legal actions. i have had at least 10 blowouts, NEVER experienced the above mentioned. I hope this prevents others from experiencing damage hair and scalp burn from the salon. I've attached pictures of hair lost, clogged shower/tub from hair in drain, text to JACKIE, BBB closed case- no reply from business. My experience has affected me EMOTIONALLY, PHYSICALLY, MENTALLY AND FINANCIALLY. PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PRODUCTS THESE SALONS ARE USING. Sept of 2023 went there for a keratin straightening. The not so nice Jackie assigned me to Rosa. I was going thru a traumatic event and needed to get the keratin before flying out. I only speak English-Rosa doesn't. Bottom line, i found out she wasn't doing a keratin when I asked Jackie how long she expected it to last and she said maybe a couple of weeks! Then she said I should've asked for a keratin (Which I had done at the start). Then, they did the keratin and burnt my scalp several times. Afterwards I was charged around $250 Instead of $125 (advertised price). i went back this past March and before the services, Jackie again argued that the price was more than the $125. Finally she said ok and spoke to Rosa then laughing as Rosa burnt my scalp numerous times. I ended up with permanent bald spots. previously, I went to have my nails done with a new gel x (covers the nail bed and extends like tips). I waited forever as she was watching a raunchy realty show-then told me it was her first time doing the procedure and that her Aunt Jackie didn't supply her with the correct materials. Two days later, 3 broke off and all I got in return for my money was her removing the nails (cutting me too)and putting on a regular polish. I am a caucasion with shoulder length thin hair and needing a Dominican Keratin from a reputable place. Any suggestions? Thank you. read more

Yes! I can finally stop driving to broward to get a real Dominican blow out! Reasonably priced and clean and my hair came out perfect. Natural hair African American ladies you can feel safe coming here! Word of advice though - I saw some other natural hair black women come in and only get a wash and blow dry ... that's not the best way to get your hair as nice as possible when you have natural hair - you need to wash, deep condition, roller set, blow dry and then flat iron! Attitude when you walk in. Kid was a teen so I let it go. Salon was all busted up. Most Dominican salons do a great job when they are holes in the wall. This one did not! They charged $73 for a wash, blowout, and 1/2 inch trim. A woman with a baby was getting her hair done and one hairdresser wanted the other to charge her more. Woman didn't speak or understand Spanish. I wasn't from the area, was visiting someone at JFK hospital. Will never go back! Katy was the one that did my hair. read more

I hate to post a bad review but it's only fair for people to know, I wish someone would have left a review for me and I wouldn't have wasted my time and money. My first impression was that they were good in scheduling me, the three times I had to go see them, but that's just my point - THREE TIMES! And all in the span of a week. I went for color, hair extensions and blow out. The lady who I was assigned to was very sweet but, I hate to say it, not very knowledgeable in working with the tasks at hand. Now I've had my hair colored enough that I know you have to leave it at least 45 minutes, but I was visiting a new place and maybe they knew something I didn't. She only left it for 20 minutes. The blowout was not the typical Dominican blowout I'm used to where they leave your hair silky soft and full of bounce not to mentioned so well dried that it could last you looking beautiful until your next wash. But the worst were the extensions! I have very fine hair, but I've had extensions on my hair before and I know that they can stay on successfully without damage or slippage. Unfortunately, I had to return twice because the extensions were slipping off all on their own without me even touching. Once they started coming off and becoming loose, I also noticed that the lady who put them on used blonde beads on my brown hair, which I couldn't see while I was at the salon - who does that?!?! Also, my hair that was just colored, was already showing gray hairs in the front. And all this a few days after paying all that money when I went back to have this work corrected, I had to pay to have what was left of the extensions removed and reinstalled using another method, to color my front again and to blowout my hair, again - and they charged me another $80! Why??? And the following week the hair extensions are falling off again!!! This time when I went back, again she was sweet, but this was ridiculous, I gave the lady some pointers on how to do my ends of the extensions (tie the thread into knot so that the extensions don't slip). I don't know if she did it because here I am writing this review because they slipped one final time and this time I decided to find someplace else. I moved from NY I am now living in Boynton and I was desperately looking for a place to do my hair and I thought I found it at this place - my fellow Dominicans, and I'm giving them two stars because they gave me no problem scheduling me to keep going back to get this fix but I can't keep going back to keep correcting something that should have been done right the first time. Hopefully they will find people who know what they are doing. I wish them much success. read more

I went to NY Dominican salon on a Sunday in desperate need of getting a blowout and silk press. I've never been before but they were one of the few salons open on Sunday's. My stylist was Lely and she made my hair super straight! She was gentle and took time with my hair, I am in love with the outcome and I WILL be coming back. I went here back in March for a wash and blowout. Prior to booking I told them I have natural hair to which the lady behind the desk rolled her eyes at. I probably should've taken that as a huge sign that they do NOT care for natural hair and will put chemicals in it without your consent anyways. Do not bother with this place. They don't honor reservations. The place is dirty and smelly. And the work that I saw from their stylists is absolutely inferior. The management is rude and doesn't know how to inform their customers as to being late. And they wanted payment in advance to secure the appointment. I'm sure glad I didn't do that because they don't know how to honor a reservation and they kept us waiting over half an hour and we had to leave because there was no firm stylist available and there were four people still waiting ahead of us.
