I bought a service dog for my son with autism. 2 years ago. He was 20 and struggling to live on his own. We set up several systems including a house close to ours, a live in resident assistant, multiple roommates, but still he was sleeping in late, missing meals, missing school, forgetting his meds. This service dog solved many problems. The dog follows my son around and reminds him to get up, take a walk, eat. She carries his meds in her service vest and stops him from pacing or raging, alerting him to stop and then he remembers to take meds. She rides the bus with him and sits calmly while he works and studies. He is more confident going out and going to school because people can tell he has special needs when they see the dog. I'd say the dog has taken over a good 15 hours of work off my plate in caring for my son and costs less than a nanny for sure. And having the dog has eliminated the seasonal affective disorder. It looks like I was scammed $5000 by David Baron DBA Superdog. He promised me a small female in July 2025, but only offered other dogs since then that were either never picked up or returned. Those dogs were big. According to the contract he would be selecting a female puppy. In August he had a medical and personal issues which put him out for at least 2 solid months. Apparently his wife was taking care of some of the 6 or 7 dogs but not training them. No updates unless I asked. His contract does NOT say the deposit is non-refundable but he apparently already spent my money without ever selecting a dog. I found this out when I emailed him in Dec 22,2025 to let him know I had to just get a smaller dog due to my landlady's wishes. That is when he turned ugly via text. Please heed the reviews and be very very careful with him. I was floored by how brutally mean (and misleading) he actually is. Let me update my 11-year-old review of Super Dog and Dave Baron in particular. There seems to be a whole lot of drama here. Maybe I can help clarify. Dave is great with dogs. Like Cesar Milan-level great. Since my first experience with him, I got into rescuing and rehabilitating abused dogs. Sometimes I called up Dave for help and advice. He always gave it generously and expertly. What Dave doesn't deal with is people who waste his time or don't listen. I'm not his friend. I don't even really vibe with the guy to be honest--but I respect him and his expertise. If I ever need a dog trainer's help again, I'll call him first. Yes, his website is sh*t and his people skills could probably use some work, but you're not hiring him to do web design or event hosting, so get over yourself. read more

After reading through the entire website, descriptions of training and then calling and talking to one of the trainers and the owner Dave himself, I felt very confident in choosing Super Dog for training. From what the descriptions on the website, contract, and the trainers explained to me I assumed that the training would be much more involved then it was. Instead the trainer would come once every 2 weeks (if lucky) for two hours and would tell me to work on the methods at home with my dog the rest of the time. At first I figured "OK, I will give it a shot since they are the experts." I quickly found out though that the methods they were teaching me were basically glorified obedience training methods that I could have learned at any class. After spending $1200 on training my German Shepherd is still aggressive toward some people and almost all dogs. I did not call for normal obedience training as I had already done that with her and she listens well. So basically I got nothing out of the training. The best part is the fact that I was told numerous times that if I had any problems to call/e-mail my trainer and they would call me back and help me whenever I needed it. Since the last session (approx. 4 moths ago) I have emailed my trainer a minimum of 3 times and have called and left repeated messages only to be completely ignored. It is as if they fell off the face of the earth except for the fact that they had no problem cashing my checks on time. I do not recommend this program to anyone as it is misleading, overpriced, not helpful what so ever. read more

If I could give this "business" zero stars, I would. Let me clarify a few things.We were lured onto his compound under the false statement that he was going to let us check out his training for free. This person was told NOT to run my credit card and after behavior that frightened my wife she paid with her credit card to leave the compound and get the dog back into our possession. If he ran my credit card (which he did not) it would have been illegal as we told him not to. If you read all the yelps and you still go to this place for your training, then its all on you. We would never go back or suggest anyone to go here for the safety of your family and your pet. David baron is a thief and a rip off artist. He says he can train any dog, but as soon as the date for board and train is over he kicks the dogs out and charges you for room and board. He only works with your dog 1 hour a day. Isn't the point of a board and train to have a more intense time of training? Also he chains up the dogs in the garage if they are slightly unruly. I sent up 2 dogs and both should have come back trained the same. My golden came back ok but afraid to come near anyone for 2 days until he learned we aren't going to kick him if he feel like it. The doodle came back with the same aggression nervous behavior we sent her in for and started snapping at us starting the next week. When I told David of the non progress the doodle has shown he said that it would only be basic commands as I only paid $7000. I told him that's the price for service dog training according to his website. He said that's no longer the case as he has updated his website. He then hung up and wouldn't return my calls. About a month later the county put down my doodle for aggressive behavior because she killed 2 cats in front of a school, was covered in their blood & snapping at the kids on the other side of the gate. I wrote a review FIVE years ago about poor customer service and the fact that Dave would not give me time to have my dog checked out by a vet before committing to train. He JUST NOW (five years later) posted some BS response about my credit card being declined. That is 100 percent absolutely a lie. I never agreed to a program and therefore never made a payment. I never went to the three hour training which he states I refused to pay him for. By the way, the dog in question has been dead for three years. She had a nuerological disorder. I contacted Super Dog as I have been very sick and in and out of hospitals for almost 2 years. The dog I have is almost a dream dog. I bought her as a home protection dog from a professional trainer . She had been through a lot emotionally with my illness but started to take the pack leader position. Still a great dog but tries to get out the door before me. Jumps on people, all food has to be out of her reach or it's hers but no aggression. I saw Super Dog on line and it looked really good although I did notice that most of the photos were the same group of dogs? I guess I should have read more carefully. Nothing seems to be what it is. There is a link" pick a trainer "but it's all pictures of again the same group of dogs with a lot of links at the end. What happened to pick a trainer? They returned my call but it was a lady. I don't recall her name. I think it may have been Nicky? I explained I had a GSD with extensive training but I had cancer and was in the hospital. Between all the radiation, chemo, and in and out of the hospital the dog knows something is wrong. I explained what I needed help with but would also like to make her a service dog. I was told that they would train her to be a service dog and I would get a certification so I could bring her everywhere with me including restaurants. She also said they have a certification for service dogs for people that have anxiety attacks. This all sounded great and she set up an appointment for a trainer to come out and evaluate her. I had a young man come out at the appointed time. I honestly don't even remember his name as he left no business card, flyer or contact. He met my dog and told me she would not make a good service dog as she was a protection dog and they have a lot of energy. I needed a more calm dog. when ever she came over to him he pulled out this little gun that would blow air in her face. OK at first I thought that kind of a cool training tool but Danke is smart and she would have that figured out in no time. As far as jumping on people he suggested I get a crate and lock her in it. That's how you train a dog not to jump by locking it up. What if I locked your kid in a closet until he settled down. I don't think so. This was all he had to offer. I guess I should be happy he didn't try to sell me anything. I kept thinking about this and that it was unprofessional so I called Super Dog. Wow. This time I got Dave. Sorry I called. We don't have any trainers with air guns and we don't tell people to lock their dogs in crates. I said I spoke with a woman and she told me all about this service dog certificate. OH you must have spoken with Nicky. I told him that at least in the state of CA they no loner accept service dogs for anxiety. Everyone feels better where there dog is there. Certificates are only granted by a very few regulated organizations like guide dogs for the blind. He argued that you had to get a doctors letter. Funny the lady I spoke with never mentioned that, it was all about taking the dog to restaurants and stores. Now he is telling me I never called them. I'm not on their list, they don't use air guns or tell people to lock their dogs in crates. So I'm crazy and I imagined all this. If you claim to have trainers all over CA and about 6 different states how do you know what they are telling people? I was just floored that he was so insistent on the fact that I had never called. This was the only trainer I called and I still had their web site up on my computer. That's just bad business. You could have said " I'm sorry you were given bad information. I will check on who they sent out. I have a great trainer in your area if your willing to give this another shot. If you can't find my name on your list maybe it's bad record keeping? Rather than try to resolve this it sounded more like he wanted an argument or he was going to be right no matter what. OK so I never called. No one ever came to my house. I imagined all of it. I'm eternally grateful to Dave for the compassion and guidance he provided us over several years. Our dog Rudy was a fear biter and aggressive toward other dogs and sometimes people. He was an extreme case but Dave worked with us when others suggested euthanizing him. He went above and beyond to help us. After recommending Superdog to a friend she emailed my horrified by the reviews, which I found very surprising. Is Superdog cheap? No. You get what you pay for and as far as I'm concerned investing $1200 to have a impeccably trained dog (and owner) is a bargain. How much do people spend sending their kids for this activity or that? I know I spend at least $1200 bucks a month on summer camp for my kid so a one time investment of $1200 hardly seems like too much. After adopting a 75lb Pitbull from our local pound we decided that we had better hire a professional trainer. I researched quite a few trainers online before selecting Superdog. The first time Jesse came to our house I knew we made the right choice. He is nothing short of a dog whisper as far as I'm concerned. Both my husband and I are thrilled with Superdog and our trainer specifically. The complaint about the amount of time you get with the trainer is not valid to me. Jesse was completely up front with us, the time spent for each visit and the number of sessions included. The bottom line is you can train any dog but if you can't train the owner training the dog is a waste of time and money. Jesse basically trained Joey and myself how to train Lulu. He gave us guidance and the tools we needed to have an incredibly well trained dog that will heel even when there's a bunny that she wants to chase five feet in front of her, that will stay in a down/stay at the dog park for up to twenty minutes. We have been consistent and disciplined about implementing the tools we learned and for us it's paid off. It's a long term investment, you will likely have your dog for a minimum of 12 years possibly more. He can be an endless source of pleasure or a pain in the ass. I signed the SuperDog contract with integrity but when I realized what was involved in the training method (punitive, aversive, negative reinforcement) and expressed some concern, Dave immediately cashed the post dated checks. For someone retired and on a fixed income, that was a sudden, unexpected huge decrease in one month's resources. SuperDog goes by the saying "the customer is always wrong." SuperDog training is based on the older, outdated methods of training dogs to obey commands using correction, force and reprimand. My goal is creating not only a dog that "obeys" its owner, but a companion who is willing and eager to be a working partner. According to Dave, this is wrong. The dominance panacea works for Dave and might work on some dogs but is not the answer to all dog problems. Don't go for his hype. read more

John Vinton is an expert dog trainer. I highly recommend him. He worked with us and our Scottish terrier to overcome a serious issue with crazy, outrageous behavior and barking at other dogs. We surmised that our puppy became fear-aggressive in part due to an accidental death of our older Scottie. Perhaps she had to step up and be the "protector" when she really wasn't ready for it. Anyway, John has a very well thought out and executed training program that includes multiple visits to our home and walks with our dog in our neighborhood so he could see exactly what was happening. John's methods are kind and gentle to both dog and owner and I rate them highly effective. A lot of what we learned had to do with making sure our dog has an appropriate place in the human world she lives in. Some of the training tips are surprisingly easy to implement. However, if you embark on a serious training regimen with your dog, do expect to spend time each day on the project and it will be more than worth it. A lot of what we did was basic obedience assisted in great part by John's knowledge and guidance. We also spent a lot of time walking our dog in areas where she would meet other dogs. It was extremely difficult at first as she would be crazy, out of control around other dogs. The big breakthrough came after a number of weeks of slow improvement (the outrageous behavior was moderating). John had our dog on leash and suddenly came up on another dog. John intuitively could see that the other dog was friendly so he had our dog approach (all on leash), and the two dogs had a wonderful time sniffing around. Even though our Scottie can still bark and act anxious when another dog approaches, if we permit her to get close, the encounters have always turned out positive. Thanks to John's coaching and gentle persuasion we have learned to trust that our dog really wants to get to know other dogs and she enjoys the interaction. I'm starting out with 4 stars for now because i've only had one lesson, but if they stay this good, it's going up to five. I have been in desperate need of a dog trainer for a while now, but I was extremely hesitant to spend a bunch of money on a trainer who didn't have proof that their system worked. When I came across Superdog's page, my first thought was "how the hell do they get those dogs to do that???? I want my dog to do that!" Their website is flooded with great high quality pictures that really impressed me. After considering calling for a few weeks, I finally did. I was sure I was going to get an outrageous price that I couldn't afford. Turns out I actually am spending less than I would have with a lot of other private trainers. I spoke with John over the phone he was more than happy to explain the program to me at length, go over my needs, and prices. He was just as friendly in person. We met at a park today and it was quite a lovely day. Of course my two pit bulls were more than excited to be there. We sat at a table and talked for about 45 minutes about the method, the commands, dog psychology, and the list i made of problem areas to work on. Then we got to the commands, my younger pittie was a pain in the butt ( he is sooo stubborn!) but he actually ended up sitting and laying down without any yelling, pain, fear, or negativity. My older pittie (2 years) was out of this world! she picked up on everything after only a few tries. I was sitting there in shock with my mouth hanging open. I though it was magic or something, but i'm able to get them to do it at home also. I guess it's all about technique and i'm finally learning the right one. As for heel, I was amazed. Both of my dogs caught on and did very well. We were in a highly distracting environment and yet they both understood what they were supposed to be doing. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone. I guess people have had issues with Dave, But if you're in the bay area, Talk to John because he's AWESOME. read more

I have known and used Dave and his assistant for two years. We have a wonderful, stubborn Lassapoo. From our first visit Missy and Dave joined forces. His task, to teach us how to work with Missy. What a joy. she could not wait to go to his training area. Loves to run through his front yard and playfully come waging back to him. He was able to work with us in teaching her to stay at the front door, not bolt, and love it. She does everything he taught us to do with her. Missy has enjoyed her time with Dave. I can call at anytime, ask questions, obtain feedback and NOT ONCE have I ever been treated poorly by Dave or his staff. This last weekend Missy was invited to Tahoe for the weekend with a family who to this point did not like dogs. I received a call for Missy to come and play with the family again, they even let her roam the house. Dave you and Niki are the best. We recommend you and will bring all our dogs to you. I messaged David Baron on Facebook looking for a service dog for my anxiety. I'm a high school senior who's been struggling for years with panic attacks, dissociation, and frequent anxiety. So I sent a friendly message asking about how the process might go to getting a dog and if one might be a good help. I also mentioned how I've been seeing a therapist and taking anti-anxiety medication. The response I got back was incredibly rude! The exact message from David Baron goes: "Unless your mother wants you to get a dog, you won't get one. The only ones I've ever seen help somebody to the tune of almost $30,000 is a parent or grandparent. Chances are you are a normal child. Anxiety is normal. You have no job, no money of your own, no career, no college, not even your own apartment. Who wouldn't be anxious in your situation. Service dogs are for college students or people who go to a job. Go to college and get a life. A service dog is no substitute." Meanwhile, their website states there's no discrimination against people of a variety of things, one of which is age! So are service dogs just for college people on up? But the website also said they have also been trained to help children. Also, I wouldn't count frequent anxiety-related panic attacks and dissociation as a "normal child." Meanwhile, I have a job, most high schoolers have jobs. Therefore, I have money of my own and am able to buy and care for the dog. This dude told a high school girl with anxiety to go to college and get a life. After reading reviews, I realize I'm not alone having to correspond with his vulgar personality. If this is the way David Baron treats people, I'm sorry for the dogs. Edit: 12/6/20 Ah. So you *don't* train psychiatric service dogs? Might wanna take that off your website then. I also must have missed that between you bashing me about asking questions. Also, the purpose of a psychiatric service dog is to help the person not go crazy. Not everybody with a psychiatric disorder is crazy. Look it up on YouTube, all these nice people who love their dogs with psychiatric problems. Read the stories of how a service dog benefited them. I didn't change ANY of those words. I copied and pasted exactly from our conversation. I can provide screenshots if anyone wants to see them. Also, I was merely asking QUESTIONS. Even if I'm a few months under the age of 18, there's still no valid reason you couldn't answer them will a more polite attitude. Instead of "Unless your mother wants you to have one, your not getting it," "chances are you are a normal child," and "get a life," what if you replied, "Hey there, the process of getting a dog is (insert the main process) However, sorry to say we only provide service dogs to people who are over 18 and no longer train service dogs for psychiatric reasons." I wouldn't be here leaving a terrible review about your attitude as a business owner. Let's go back to "Chances are you are a normal child" If I was a "normal child" you fear me hurting my dog? Where's that logic? If I'm a "normal child" you think I would just hurt a dog to try proving how messed up in the head I am? That's called animal cruelty and it's a major offense. Plus I'm a dog lover. I would never intentionally hurt a dog. If those were signs of my disorder, my therapist wouldn't approve of me getting a psychiatric service dog. My review is based on my PERSONAL experience with Dave of SuperDog, et al, based on my interaction with him and why I DIDN'T use him and how easy he made it for me to come to that decision. I found Dave online and contacted him via email asking questions regarding his training methods and explained areas I wanted to work on. These are NORMAL questions to ask a potential trainer. I couldn't believe his response. He essentially told me off for asking questions. He was nothing less than rude, insulting and clearly angry. It took ONE email interaction for me to choose NOT to use him. I would never want that type of person around me or my dogs. I wanted someone kind and friendly who practices POSITIVE reinforcement with both the Owner and the Pup and after asking around, I found that 'someone' & now I have 2 well-trained, happy pooches thanks to a Trainer that was a joy to be around. When I received Dave's response to my email I decided to post on Yelp to share my experience. I've never made a business inquiry before and received a response where I was 'spoken' to in such a nasty way. What was even more surprising was how many other people had similar experiences. To give you some insight, I STRONGLY advise that you take the time to read ALL the Reviews as well as how he responds to them. I also suggest that you scroll to the bottom of where the last Review is and click on the box..I think it says something like "Reviews not Relevant". Believe me, they are just as relevant as the ones shown. All I know is that I wouldn't want someone this hateful and angry anywhere near me or my dogs. And again, that is why I didn't use him. Just a Note: From July 13, 2010 (5-days after posting my Review) to May 27, 2015 Dave has posted nasty Comments on my Review comprised of name calling and insults. They're ever-changing but each one is just as insulting as the last. I never harassed Dave and yet he finds it necessary to do so with me. I wrote ONE Review based on ONE email exchange and he has found it necessary to berate me for 5-years (and HE calls ME 'crazy'!). Dave is a BULLY. I once took time to reply to each of his Comments, but thanks to the many emails of support I received from others with similar experiences with Dave, I realized I don't need to continue to defend my Review...and I won't. This will be my last post in regards to his Comments. With each insult Dave reinforces the person that he is. Clearly he has not changed nor learned from what people have to say about their experiences with him. He's rude, hateful and mean and consistently proves it. All you have to do is read a few Reviews and his Comments to realize the type of person he is. I finally Flagged him. I hope that Yelp takes this seriously. Five years of harassment over a Review....enough is enough. I don't claim to know anything about how Dave works with dogs, no doubt he does a stellar job. He seemed very knowledgeable on the phone and I was impressed so I figured I'd give it a try. I had seen some aggressive behavior emerge in my year and a half old puppy (who I found/rescued at 8 weeks from an alleyway) and was concerned. I have vaccinated, trained and cared for this dog on my own since I found her. I am a professional in a phase of life where I am taking a break from the grind, working less and pursuing service opportunities. The evening after speaking with Dave plans were more formalized for me to go to Mexico and work in an orphanage. I emailed Dave to see if rates were negotiable and this was his verbatim response copied and pasted from my email: "We deleted all your information and no longer interested. You can travel out of the country and work for free, but are cheap with your dog. Best wishes friend." More than anything I find this response heart-breaking. The absence of professionalism, courtesy and respect are the least of the issue; I work in a hospital and get that all the time. What's worse to me is the suggestion that I should allocate my resources equally to train a dog as I would to serve and help human beings. Words cannot express how thankful I am that I did not give a cent of my money to this individual. The thought of Dave purchasing another Porsche on my dime is sickening. read more

Dave of SuperDog is unprofessional - at best. I contacted them in order to find a trainer for my dog...I read their website and was amazed and excited, because their programs seemed exactly what we needed, unfortunately what they sell on their website is not reality! I contacted a trainer Dave trained in San Antonio and she told me she does not thinks all dogs can be rehabilitated and she proceeded to diagnose my dog, tell me I had no hope, after I spent 2 minutes talking about him. She'd never even met him and made all these assumptions (all of which I corrected as inaccurate) based on the fact that he was a pit bull. I sent an email to Dave expressing my confusion between what his website said and what his trainer was telling me, this was one of the responses I got. The best is his last paragraph. Lauren, No, I do not believe all dogs can be trained to be like someone 'wants' or 'needs'. I am sorry if I have something posted that is ambiguous or confusing. We tell people calling we are ethical and cannot promise that their dog will ever be like a happy-go-lucky Lab puppy. Maybe the dog can be that way, but we try to be ethical and do not over-promise. We can guarantee, however, that the dog can be around people and dogs and not lunge, bark and act stupid. We can guarantee that we can show them how to manage and train their dog so do not have to put it down. I can absolutely guarantee that. I believe Jan meant that the dog will always be protective. My Pit Bull Rocco is. We manage Rocco correctly so we do not have problems. Rocco will never be a sweet, submissive Lab female. He is a male Pit Bull whose instincts are to protect. We do not eliminate instinct or genetics, but instead inhibit them. People have choices with problem dogs: 1) They can give the dog away; 2) They can euthanize the dog; 3) They can sequester the dog; 4) They can try training the dog. Lauren, there is no one else in San Antonio that comes close to what Jan can do for you-in any case. I think the problem you had with Jan is over semantics. Jan helps and is successful with Pit Bull owners with Reagan's problem probably a couple dozen times a year. From your email it sounds like no one trained you how to properly handle and manage your dog. Jan can do that and she is in San Antonio. I see your point about Jan is not me and told you something else than you read, but you were too swift with your judgement and need to put that aside for the good of your dog, if not yourselves. All right as far as I'm concerned mostly reviews are BS. If you're not satisfied with super dogs training it's because you're not doing your homework. If you don't go home and do what he teaches you it's not going to work you have to stay on top of it every day for about a year. I took my dog there when he was 6 weeks old. He was a pitbull I got from the flea market. They gave me a free consultation and gave me some stuff to teach my dog until he was old enough for the training. When he was old enough we went back for four lessons one every couple months. You have to be a little bit mean to your dog in the beginning to show him that you're the pack leader. My dog is now 9 years old and the perfect dog thanks to Dave and super dog. He's been off leash his entire life since he was a year old. David was extremely abrasive, and frankly rude, to me on the phone when I called to ask about the board and train program. He repeatedly cut me off while I was talking, and asked if I even had money to pay for training or would I have to borrow it from my parents, which was highly offensive as I've been out of school, living on my own and supporting myself for years. He started referencing the bible to try to make a point, and when I tried to excuse myself politely from the conversation (clearly seeing he is no one that I want to be working with) he kept shouting questions at me in a disorganized manner, hardly giving me time to reply, before he said never mind, my dog wasn't a good fit for him anyway (like I would send my dog to someone like that anyway!) read more

Hahaha... I think the owner name is Dave. Very very funny guy (/sarcasm). I called to ask about their dog training, based on a simple Internet search. He is the first one I ever called. You see, this is my first dog ever and I am doing a little bit of research about what is out there besides PetCo and PetSmart. I should have looked here first :) He kept me on the phone for about 30 minutes talking about how great his web site and his way of dog training are. Actually, really, his is the *only* way to train your dog. Everything else is "bribing" the dog, and other horrible unmentionable acts by complete amateurs. So, for their exclusive, wonderful (but no quarantees), in your home dog training, charge is $895. Wow! Someone already living in your neighborhood would come and train the dog at your own home. Well.. perhaps this is fine, but i need more research. $895 is, well a little too much for me. However, I still made an appointment, thinking this is perhaps the rate everywhere (until I saw PetSmart). The condition was that if I changed my mind I'd call and cancel. In any case, even if I didn't call, at the end of the first lesson I could (supposedly) decide not to continue and cancel the whole thing. When I called nobody was home so I left a message. Later on he called and left me a message.. "... you know what, I don't want your goddamn business. Get the f*ck off. You have made everyone so excited, and made me spend all that time on the phone... F*ck you!!!" Well, this was actually quite hilarious for me:) I *did* make the right decision for canceling. Con? Perhaps. Most certainly someone not to do business with. Dave the owner is CRAZY. He is horrible at scheduling anything past the first appointment. When you can't reach him, he will blame it on you. He is totally unreasonable and treats his customers very poorly. I know of a few people that opened up dialog with him only to have him go off on rants. He also raves about how he is sueing his compeitors and I just don't think that is a good way to approach business. Stay away from this guy. He did one lesson for me, had someone come out to do the second and never did any of the other lessons. He wouldn't give my money back and he threatened me. He threatens me yet, I am the customer. I contacted Dave as I was interested in getting a puppy in addition to my chihuahua mix, who does not currently need obedience training but I may be interested in trick training as his service includes three dogs. In the voicemail I left him, I asked if he was familiar with training service dogs and if he wasn't, if he could point me in a direction. He left me a voicemail back saying to call him back. I was excited that he said to call him back, so I did, and he demanded to know my medical history and told me that if it wasn't military related he couldn't help me. He threw his "degree in psychology" in my face and told me that I was being dramatic. In trying to explain all I wanted was obedience for a new puppy that I had not yet gotten, and possibly a resource who could help me with the service training, he continued to interrupt me, and ultimately actually HUNG UP ON ME. I'm not sure what happened to our original review. We took our dog to SD back in 2014. We purchased our dog second-hand. We think he was likely abused as a puppy at his first home. He needed professional training to address his aggressiveness. After an initial meeting with Dave, we paid for a series of visits in advance (huge mistake). We were shocked by the harsh authoritarian cruel treatment that Dave subjected the dog to in the first lesson. It was tough to watch. If he wasn't already traumatized, that session sure didn't help. One visit was enough. We asked for a refund, but in the end we forfeited the rest of our money. We hired another trainer the next week and our dog immediately responded to her positive techniques. He has turned into a great dog. We have since moved from the Roseville area, but we can't recommend Superdog. read more

We had a tragic story with a badly damaged dog. While on vacation our pet sitter took our 2 dogs to a home with a swimming pool, our 4 1/2 year old Scottish Terrier Angus drowned while our puppy Abby watched. The aftermath was a severely fear aggressive puppy; a puppy that growled at children, went completely crazy at the presence of other dogs and we feared had little to no hope. She was a wild unpredictable, scary dog. I don't know how we found John Vinton, but I'm grateful that we did. We have recently completed 4 months of intensive training and I am happy to report that Abby is a reliably normal, happy, fun loving dog. John gave us the tools to give Abby a chance. He worked with us in person and via email teaching the basics which enabled us to work effectively with Abby. We learned the commands and how to teach Abby to respect us and the process. As it turns out, John was training us as well as our Abby. We found John to be communicative, kind and direct with training and know we can recommend his services without reservation. My experience with Superdogs is exactly like the ones that other people have stated. The guy doesn't show up, but sends some college age kid that cancels several times before showing up at all. The first lesson was a simplistic lesson in dog walking that I could have gotten in any puppy class for $20 or less . The second lesson a young lady of college age showed up, and proceeded to yank away on a leash to make my dog stay in a down stay position. This is their supposed kind and gentle training, which upset me so much I did not want anyone from this company to ever come back. I do not treat my dogs like in this manner, and it is exactly the opposite of what they advertised, and I got this all for the price of $700 in 2008. Now they are charging $1,200, they have to be kidding! As far as the continued assistance for life, it doesn't exist, and who would want it anyway? How in the world do these people stay in business! I will start by saying my experience is with Dave himself, who, I am privileged to be personally working with. My dog is a rescue dog (Chuahua/Corgie mix maybe) and I came to Dave because a friend recommended him and I didn't know how, exactly, to go about training my new pet. He was a runner if a door got opened or he ever saw a glimpse of freedom, he was gone gone gone. This dog knew no U turn! The idea that I would some day walk to the park off leash (or dragging a leash I don't have to touch) did not seem possible to me any more than the likelihood that he would quit marking everything everywhere! Well, I learned precisely how to behave and what to do to enhance my relationship with my dog, be perceived as the leader and much worth following, as well as the benevolent provider of all things: Food, protection, affection, etc. I am happy to say a few short weeks later my dog is the envy of all who see him. People can't help but comment on his excellent citizen ship. He, in turn, enjoys much greater freedom to join me in virtually any environment...even homes where dogs are not normally allowed welcome my little guy because he is such a pleasure and not a pain to have around. I can assure you that there is no cowering or trauma to my dog as a result of Dave's traditional methods. The word correction may be daunting to some, but administered properly it is simply unemotional detached information you are communicating to your dog. My first meeting with Dave he had me through away my choke chain in favor of a gentler break away snap collar. He truly understands that it is the strength of the relationship that counts and not the strength of the correction. My dog is a balanced, happy, contented dog whom I can take anywhere at anytime and who loves and respects me. I can't speak for the other trainers in his organization because I have no experience with them. It does occur to me however, that other reviewers here don't really have experience with them either and I would seriously question the value of their comments for that reason. I do not know Dave personally as I only met him when we began training. I paid him for his professional services and they were rendered in a manner which was easy for me to follow and replicate at home. He told me precisely what to do and I did precisely what he said.
