I have been going to this specific Petfood Express for almost 15 years. I won't be going there anymore. Over the last couple of years pet food express continues to change their policies about returns, etc. It used to be that if your animal didn't like a product, or it was not working them, you could return it and either get a refund or choose something else. Now they have a 30 day limit to doing that which changed sometime in the recent past. And a few weeks ago, I purchased something for my little dog that was supposed to be helpful for his teeth and instead it got stuck in his teeth, and it was very traumatic for him as well as for me, as well as dangerous to try to get it out of his mouth when he was freaking out. So I returned the item and was told that because the item was opened I don't get my money back. Thus another new rule. I had a receipt as well. In every other store if you have a receipt and there's a problem you get a refund. Not only that, but the girl who informed me that this has been the policy, which is actually not been a policy very long, was rude to me. It's very clear that petfood express is more concerned about the bottom line than providing excellent service and excellent products anymore. As a result, I will not be shopping there anymore. I love the one in Sacramento off Fair Oaks - today I was in the fountains location and they seem to be short staffed - there was no one to ask of anything - one girl who was carrying a basket for an older lady who eventually ended up at the cash register and waited on her while I continued to wait in line - no acknowledgment by her either - I found this strange and unappealing as a customer - not sure I'll be back to this location - the fair oaks location also always offers feee samples - this location may as well but the staffing is to short for them to address or offer it unfortunately read more

Very Disappointed With the Service We first brought our puppy here for her first vaccine, but no one explained to us that she needed to return for a second vaccination. We only found this out when we brought her back in July for her rabies vaccine. At that appointment, we were told that her first vaccine had already expired and that we would have to start the vaccination process again. She received her first vaccine again along with her rabies vaccine, and we were specifically told that she needed to return on August 6 for her second shot. We registered her on August 3 for the August 6 vaccination clinic between 3-5 PM and received a confirmation. However, when we arrived with our puppy, the staff member told us that she was not registered for that day. This has been extremely frustrating. First, we were not properly informed about the required second vaccine, which caused her original vaccination to expire. Then, after following their instructions and registering for the next appointment--and even receiving confirmation--we arrived only to be told that she was not registered. Very poor communication and organization. When it comes to a puppy's vaccinations, owners should be given clear instructions and confirmed appointments should be honored. I would not recommend this place based on our experience. read more

They would not let me return a bag of food even though it caused an allergic reaction in my dog. They promote a buy 3 get 1 free, but you have to return the food in 30 days if you want to exchange it. How can I use 4 bags of food in 30 days?? Hubby stopped into this location to pick up some items for our Goldendoodle puppy. To help with his itchy skin, Nulo's Omega 3-6-9 Oil Supplement, an employee recommended. We used 2 pumps over his Stella & Chewy's Duck Duck Goose Frozen Raw Dinner Morsels and Stella's Super Beef Frozen Raw Dinner Morsels we purchased. So far he loves the fish oil and it will help keep his coat nice and shiny! And you cannot go wrong with Stella & Chewy's, this grain-free raw diet helps maintain Midnight's weight, keeps his coat shiny, his muscles strong, supports his bone and joint health! DOG BATHS ARE FILTHY AND DISGUSTING!! MOLD AND MILDEW growing in all parts of the bath itself and growing up the wall, I was seriously concerned that my dog would track the mold home. Completely offensive and disrespectful of the dogs. Workers are great, but MANAGEMENT OBVIOUSLY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE DOGS OR THE CUSTOMERS, or it would do basic cleaning and daily disinfection. I used the self dog bathing station. Was skeptical because of a few bad reviews but I was pleasantly surprised. The washing stations weren't absolutely spotless, but appeared clean enough and the functions of the hose were easy to use. My dog hates getting bathed but she did pretty good with it. We had to pick up some food for our dog so stopped here since we were in the area. Parking was a bit tough but found we should have parked in the back parking lot. It is a large store but was easy to find the different food we needed. Staff were friendly. Good selection of food. They have decent prices. They also offer a self washing area for dogs as well as training classes and health care for pets. read more

Used to like this place a lot for their variety of food and staff was also very nice. Especially the ladies at the registers.. but over time I did feel customer service has gone down some. Apparently recently they closed their bathrooms to the public.. although they didn't have a sign stating this. The doors were locked, I sat there waiting for close to 10 minutes. Employees walked by me a handful of times as I look like a creep just posted in the back of the store.. and not once did they think to tell me they aren't open for paying customers. Not until a door dash driver told me they don't let customers use the bathroom was I told I had to go outside. I don't mind them closing the bathrooms, but the lack of awareness or just not giving a crap while I sit there wasting my time further pushed me in the direction that the service just isn't there anymore. I use to spend $500-$600 a month there, and in the grand scheme of things that's not much for them.. But I'm going to take my business elsewhere. read more

I had the best experience with Dakota helping me find a dog food for my very finicky puppy. I told her my puppy could like something one day & hate it the next. She walked me through & explained a little about each of the kibble brands from least to most expensive. We made a choice together that we hope he would like. It was a success he loves it & has been eating it since. The next day I went back to get a dog carrier and worked with Dakota again. I wasn't sure I loved any of them, so she recommended other stores or even Amazon. I liked one so she brought it out to my car to see how it would fit & work before I purchased it. From now on I will call the store to make sure she is working. She's so cool & I will be working with her from now on, and no they don't make commission. She is just passionate about helping others. read more

The self serve dog wash is a problem. The high speed blow dryers have a nozzle that increases the high pitch and airflow that our dog can't tolerate. We used to be able to remove it and replace when we are done. Now the manager absolutely refuses to remove it. We are not going to pay for a wash when we can't dry our dog. They have a simple fix, take the clamps off the nozzles or at least some of them. They are losing our business over this. read more

I walked in, unsure of what to expect. Figured I would wander around aimlessly, not talk to a soul, and simply walk out empty handed. Then I met an associate named Jason. Jason was awesome, he was like a real-time live version of doing a google search. I had a question and he had an answer. Not in a pushy salesman type of way but more like an informative TED Talk. Super friendly and incredibly helpful. As I'm checking out, the cashier, Aaron tells me an awe inspiring story about one of the brands I bought! Is this even real life!? We came in to use their do it your self bathing station for pets. We had no idea they had this. It was such a lifesaver for us to bathe our dog. You get tokens at the front register and they walked us through how to use the bathing station and how to switch it from water, shampoo, conditioner and then the dryer. Everything is provided. Towels, shampoo, conditioner and they even had a water resistant collar. We'll be back for sure. read more

Oh first off I don't wanna cut on them or say anything bad but I don't like the way I was being treated. I've been going in there for years. The place has fallen apart. I don't really care if I go in there anymore I really don't and they will not see me in the new year of 2026. I could care less don't go there. It's gone downhill it's the atmosphere is bad when you walk in the door it's not the same everybody I know and everybody I liked is gone so the place is no longer there. The only one that I think is awesome is Merrick. He's awesome. Maybe Karen and maybe Mia but the rest I can do it without so anyway if you wanna go somewhere where you be treated right and it's got good atmosphere go to PetSmart. I used to shop there until I started going to Pet Food express and I've been shopping at pet Food express for quite a few years and they were really nice back then but now they just Dr.hart laugh because she wasn't happy either they treated her badly as well. Because that's what I was told Everybody's I know has gone because they didn't like it there anymore. Either they were being treated badly so it's not the same anymore so I give them a one because the way they treated me and I bring stuff back because I'm not happy with it then it goes back. Called on phone and asked if they had open farms broth any flavor ( long drive for nothing if they were out, hence the phone call ). Maddie said they did not have any, wife said to just get another brand, so I drove up there and what do I see, tons of stock in all sizes and flavors. I asked if they just stocked it and was told no it's been full all week. So that tells me Maddie never even bothered to look for me, I even told her her where it's at in store. read more

It's a pretty cool pet store. They have a lot of stuff for dogs. There's a self service dog washing station. They have a whole section for "Just food for dogs" food. They don't have much for rabbits or birds. It's a small section in the front of the store for those types of pets. read more

Worst customer service. Never keeps the expensive dog food in stock. Even if the website says it's in stock and sold it to you they won't honor your price for the buy 3 get one free. Big mistake we spend a ton of money at this store on two big dogs. Guess I won't be buying from them any longer. Awful experience! First of all as I arrived there, no one was at the registers so that was already a red flag. I waited and waited until i literally walked around the store to find an employee. So as I found someone, I asked for store credit/exhange for a product I never used with a lost receipt. Mind you, I did my research first before going there and in their website, there is a "no receipt" return policy. The cashier was very rude and she was not understanding at all! I even showed her the policy online however she kept insisting that the product was a grooming tool. It wasn't a grooming tool, it was more of a skincare product! (There was nothing mentioned about "skincare" in the policy.). Anyways, I just walked out and I ended up going to the one in Citrus Heights. Btw, I was able to exchange it there with no problem!!!!! This is the only dog store that holds my pups kibble, I like the simplicity and ease of access when finding what you need, and they even have a pet bathing station that you can use (at a cost). I'm used to going to petco/pet smart for all of my needs, but I like this store because I don't have to walk a mile through mazes of an isle just to find what I need. read more

This place is amazing. The employees are extremely helpful and they are all places in the right sections. Their people food animal section is great. The girl there who i forget her name but she says she has a pit bull she is really the reason for this great experience. We've always had AMAZING experiences shopping here with our doggy, Diego. From trying to find food to control his weight up until we were desperate to find a soft food that he would enjoy once he stopped solid foods altogether, we always recieved the best and most informed advice from all the team members without feeling forced to make a purchase. Sadly, Diego crossed the rainbow bridge and we were devastated. After a few months, we made the emotional jump and adopted a shelter dog and our first stop was Pet Food Express. It was an emotional moment and we were at a loss of what to get for our new addition because all breeds and dogs are different and we were lucky to be approached by Ann and her comforting smile asking if she could pet Sadie (our new dog) I immediately loved Ann's energy and positive demeanor and asked her for her help and suggestions on picking out new food and "high reward" treats for training and she was AWESOME!!! She recommended the treats that she uses for the service dog that she was currently training (Wow! This girl knows her stuff!!!) and Sadie LOVES them!!!! She also asked about what we used to feed Diego and told us that that was still a great product to use for our new pup. I also told her that we were having issue with Sadie not going to the bathroom at all and she reassured us that it takes a few days for shelter dogs to decompress and adjust and it's normal but gave us a few sample pumpkin products in case Sadie needed something to get her bowels going and when we got home, she lapped it up!!!! We were ecstatic with all of Ann's advice and recommendations and patience with us and we left feeling a lot less stressed and more excited to start this new journey with Sadie. Like I said, all the team members are trained on all their products so you'll receive great help from everyone who works there, but we were so grateful to have met Ann that day. Thank you Ann!! BTW, you can donate any animal stuff to their store (food, toys, meds) and they will accept it and send it out to their office to make sure it's all safe and acceptable and they distribute it to shelters so that's a wonderful fact to know (we had a bunch of food and treats that Diego never used) read more

I bought some Tuckers Raw Dog Food for my pup here. Two weeks after we got it, she started to throw up and we had to take her to the vet. They diagnosed her with gastroenteritis and low protein in her blood due to the food. I had my receipt for the food but not the original packaging. Considering our case I would think any "pet loving" company would go above and beyond to make things right. They refused to give us a refund and offered no apology.
