Came around 7 PM on Sunday night. Place wasn't super busy, but the service was pretty slow. Took them forever to come over and take our order. I ordered the side salad which was nothing but a place of lettuce. That's it. For $8. That pissed me off. The pasta bolognese was okay, but for $23 it wasn't worth it. The atmosphere is really nice, so I advise coming for beer/ cider. My friend ordered a burger, and it was okay, but they really expect you to fill up on the fries. Really cool bar ambiance with fun paintings on the wall. The bar area is definitely more of a stand and mingle around. Made a reservation 3 days earlier and came with 16 people for a large group work event. Even though we were 20 minutes late due to the rainy weather, staff was super accommodating. They took our app orders, then drink orders, then our entree orders. Everything came out promptly and together, so nobody was left without their order. We did have to shuffle a few plates around so everyone got the correct order, but understandable bc we were a large group. Food was delicious and they have vegetarian and gluten-free options for those with dietary restrictions. The pork chop was amazing. The fries were DELCIOUS (and also gluten-free). Only hiccup: Given our large group size, there was a 2 person table added at the end. We had 2 people running late. A staff member stopped by multiple times to ask if we still needed the table. However, one of the people running late could no longer make it and there was an open chair at the other end of the table, so we could make do without the added table. The third time the staff member asked about the open table, we initially said we still needed it, but one of our party spotted the open chair at the other end, so we told the staff member they could take the table. The reply was a sarcastic "No, you clearly need it", which was the only off putting part about dinner. We were a little surprised given how good the rest of the service was that night. Haven't had a brunch this bad in a while. It honestly felt like brunch from Hell. We came in on a Sunday when they had a live bluegrass band playing. Totally a preference thing, but I personally find this genre absolutely grating. The type of music you start making when you've been in isolation and inbreeding hard. Anyway, this review isn't for music. The food was just so mediocre! It was mostly generic Tex-Mex fare. Exactly the Mexican food you deserve while you're listening to redneck jazz. Burrito was bland, mostly just over cooked scrambled eggs wrapped in a gummy tortilla and drenched in watery hot sauce. Served with 3 nuggets of unseasoned potatoes. Pathetic. $16, in no universe justifiable. Coffee was dirt water. No one seemed happy with their food. It was just the lot of us, slowly shoveling tasteless, tepid, soft mounds into our mouths. Came here for a me date Memorial Day weekend. Kentucky lemonade, (bourbon and sugar on the rim!) and Frittata. Perfect portions. Love this place! Been a regular here for roughly 4 years. Know some of the staff. Worked with some of the staff on side projects. Came in here with a friend recently and had a great time. We paid our tab, I went to the bathroom came back, my friend went to the bathroom, I took a sip of my full water and the older male barback/bartender with the salt and pepper beard on September 29th at roughly 4 pm bussed my full water immediately after I took a sip... I mean I know I paid my tab but I'm not suddenly chop liver buddy... and to take the water away so abruptly and then practically snap a 'thanks goodbye' at me... made it seem like I had stiffed him on the tab or something when I left way over 20% in cash. I'm in the industry, I know what tips mean. We got a bit hungry checking out an exhibit at powerHouse, and we wandered into Rebar. (You're saying to yourself, "But this is a review of Superfine!" Shut your mouth.) Rebar was closed, for no apparent reason. So we walked across the street to Superfine. (See? You could've just had a bit of patience and saved us all a hassle.) The first thing that caught my eye was the pool table, with two important characteristics: it is (1) free, and (2) separated from the rest of the place, which gives people adequate room to maneuver. (By "maneuver," I mean they can lose to me without making excuses.) This automatically makes me happy. But between the strange, eclectic decor, the funky lights hanging over the bar, and the friendly service, I probably would've liked the place anyway. Our server brought over our own bottle of tap water (love that), and then the manager moved a sandwich board listing the lunch options alongside our table. So...are there no written menus? What do other people do as my indecisive ass deliberates? Do they hate me because I can't choose quickly between the chicken and steak sandwiches? I'm SORRY, the waitress said they were both good! Stop pressuring me! Get these voices of my head! ::punching self in the head:: I panicked and chose chicken. Although I could feel the angry glares, no one came over and spit in my face, so I assume I was sufficiently speedy. My companion wasn't hungry, but the waitress convinced her to get some asparagus soup. The sandwich turned out to be delicious, juicy chicken slathered in aioli; but the shoestring fries that accompanied it were just OK, and her asparagus soup wasn't worth discussing. Superfine might be superfine because it's in Dumbo and by the East River but it isn't all that fine when the food you ask for isn't available and the food itself isn't all that super. Details: I came here for Brunch around 1PM with two other friends. It's quite spacious and there's even a stage for live music. Amaze. A band was playing folk / country music and it was really sweet. And our waitress was sweet. But that it is folks - nothing too "WOW" ing. Food is average. The brunch/lunch food is mostly tex-mex feel and good ol' chunks of meat and omelette. They didn't have sausage when I went. The side order of bacon was really disappointing because I could have made juicer bacon at home. My friend who had chicken enchilada said the chicken tasted really fake, but the beans were good. Oatmeal was average. Omelette was mediocre because it didn't have any distinct taste - I had to think why I was eating an omelette that tasted like nothing. The potatoes were good. My other friend who had pork chops said it was pretty good. Also, two of the three drinks we ordered weren't available. It was below average to average feel of an experience. read more

Had the best rib-eye ever! And I mean ever! Cooked to perfection and the sides are bar none mouth watering delicious. Service is spot on friendly and perfect. Checked in on us at the perfect time. Pricing for the quality of the food is just right. Fantastic selection of alcoholic beverages too. Bar area is quaint, dining area is plentiful. This was me and my fiance's second date night spot, so we decided to return with our parents for a beautiful morning brunch/lunch. It definitely was as good as I remembered it. With fresh ingredients and super boozy bloody mary's, I'm sad we didn't think of coming here earlier. I guess we'll have to come and indulge after the wedding diet. For brunch, I'd highly suggest the breakfast burrito (I couldn't finish it) and the pork chop with eggs (this is more of a dinner meal though). As a second point, I've always loved how this restaurant looks. Located at the bottom of the bridge, it has beautiful levels and very welcoming open spaces. My bartender/server Martin gave me exceptional service unlike the server who was around me he had a light blue shirt around us he just wasn't accommodating at all and condescending I'm a server myself on the lower east side and give all my guests exceptional service but whatever I don't hold grudges. Stopped at Superfine for dinner with a friend after the Essence street style festival. The festival was amazing, lots of beautiful people but not enough food trucks so we decided to seek dinner elsewhere. Superfine happened to be right in the vicinity. We glanced at the menu and though it didn't seem too appealing I figured I'd make it work. And I was starving. First thing I notice is that Superfine is actually a pretty dope venue. It's so big that there's railing separating the different areas of the restaurant; there's seating everywhere and a huge bar with seating on both sides. There's even a stage for live performances and yep- there was a band playing. Unfortunately the band was on their way out but a cool jazz band started setting up soon after. An impromptu dinner and a show is always great! Unfortunately the food here is slightly below mediocre. We shared the corn chowder ($8), the waiter split it into two bowls, his suggestion, which was nice. I ordered the pork chop, a massive piece of swine accompanied with a cheesy pasta side and yellow squash ($28) and my friend ordered one of their pasta dishes ($24). Pretty hefty prices which would have been OK if the food was good but it was not. The corn chowder was super bland, so bland that we added salt. It was just not good, though the corn did taste fresh. Rarely do I have to add salt to my food at a restaurant, in fact, that was a first. My pork chop came with beautiful grill marks and a great grill taste but it was slightly dry and too thick of a cut. And again, lacking salt. The sides were forgettable, only 2 slices of yellow squash and a variation of mac & cheese that wasn't cheesy enough and had sad little pieces of broccoli mixed in. The dish didn't really work together. My friend's pasta dish was a simple pasta with red meat sauce (made with sausage), eggplants (she asked for light on the eggplant). I sounded appetizing but when it arrived it didn't look very interesting, and when I tried it, it was bland as hell. Slightly worse than a pasta dish I could easily make at home. Overall the food here was completely disappointing which was such a shame because the service was awesome and our waiter and hostess were both great. 3 stars for good service and a great ambiance, with live jazz, but the food deserves 2 stars for having no flavor and being overpriced. read more

Not bad, not bad at all. I came to Superfine to meet a few people, and was intrigued by the decor. Because I spend so much time in Manhattan, and a bit in Queens, too, I'm always open to being whisked away by Brooklyn charm. I am very into exposed brick, so I liked that, and the bar was cozy and nestled in a separate part of the restaurant, kitty-corner to the dining area. I had two very strong, very proportionate vodka cranberries. The people I was with had beer, and one had a martini. I know that my friend Bob enjoyed a Coney Island beer, but because of my lack of beer knowledge, that means little to me. He liked it, though, this I know. We decided to stay at Superfine for dinner. I was really drawn to the red lentil soup - really good, and couldn't decide between a cavatappi or the mozzarella sandwich. The cavatappi had meat in it, and because I didn't know how they would respond to a substitution, I decided to get the mozzarella sandwich. Delicious. And homemade potato crisps. The second best thing to the food was that we sat right by the kitchen and could smell waves of garlic while watching food be prepared. A great find in Dumbo, in the shadow of the Manhattan Bridge and a stone's-throw from the York Street subway station (F line). The place has a very cool, low-key vibe, with a nice long bar, exposed brick, and friendly staff - the kind of place you feel instantly comfortable with. All three of us ordered different variations of the breakfast burrito, filled with scrambled eggs, house-made sausage, jack cheese, pinto beans, and a healthy amount of green chiles, perfect for anyone who likes a little heat with their eggs in the morning - that subtle yet oh-so-satisfying burn. The burrito comes with some nice breakfast potatoes and some fresh salsa, making for a great start to the day. We lucked out and were treated to some live music by Brad Vickers and the Vestapolitans, some great American blues/R&R to go along with a great breakfast (and a very nice spicy bloody mary). Every time I go to NYC I make it a point to stop in Dumbo. Throughout the years I've seen this place blossom from warehouses into upscale lofts and student fashion mecca. One of my favorite places is Superfine. The first time I went there, over 5 years ago, Keith was a bartender at the time and he used to make his own sweet and sour mix every morning using Lemons and Lime. A couple of years later and no one has carried on the tradition, but the service and drinks creation is still alive. The decor is very rustic and they do have a FREE POOL TABLE!!! The ambiance and service are quite good. The bartender was nice and talkative when spoken to. Some bartenders give you one word responses and go to the next customer. We talked drinks and liquor and it was quite nice to talk "shop" if you will. I had the burger with Gorgonzola cheese and bacon (or whatever they call it) and it was quite good. I wish the red onions would have been switched with sauteed onions as it wouldn't have taken away from the sharpness of the Gorgonzola cheese. I was given an abundance of fries, which is good. One can never have too many fries while enjoying a good burger. Sadly, they do not carry any BBQ sauce. I enjoy my burger and fries with BBQ sauce. Easy BBQ sauce recipe: 1/3 bottle ketchup 2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce 1 tbsp. brown sugar 1 tbsp. spicy brown mustard 1 tbsp. minced onion or garlic 1 tsp. garlic powder 1 tsp. pepper The Good: Service is good and the workers are polite. We went for lunch this damp June saturday, and had reservations, but probably didn't need them. I love the menu concept -- apparently selections change depending on ingredient availability and sustainability. Thumbs up for that. Food was good, but I know there's more potential. My grilled cheese was nice, with spinach and tomato on multi-grain bread, but a little too oily (yes i know it's grilled cheese, but still.)
