Excellent service. Had a colonoscopy at Advocate Lutheran Hospital today and needed a ride home with a Medicar. The Gi Clinic at Lutheran requires a ride home by someone and this way is another route if you don't have someone to. Talked to Ms. Kat at SUPERIOR two weeks prior and gave her my home address and day and time of my procedure and she gave me a reasonable price on the phone. My procedure was at 8:30am got out at 10 and they were there at 11:00 on time exactly. A great driver came with a wheelchair and took me out to a brand new Ford Transit Van with wheelchair lift. He took me in and tied me down for my safety and off we went. Great conversation and I was home in no time. I would use these guys anytime in the future. Thanks SUPERIOR. Superior over charges (more than 10K for a 8 minute drive between Evanston and Glenview Hospitals) without any other services. They are out-of-network for all major health insurances like Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO and Aetna. The patient is billed although the hospital made the arrangements. Abuse of power!! Stuck in the 5pm traffic one of the ambulances were honking at the first millisecond of a green light, both the driver and the passenger were on their phones the entire time AND they didn't even have a patient on board. At the end, all that reckless driving and annoying honks was so they could go into a dunkin parking lot. its already hot and humid during traffic hour, don't make it worse because you really need an iced coffee. read more

They make their employees come in and work when they are clearly ill and sick. My mom is immune compromised and when she was picked up, one of the employees was coughing so much I was terrified! I noticed they didn't look too good, and I overheard them talking and saying they would get a "point" on their record if they took a sick day. What?! They were the most compassionate and kind people who helped my mom and I, and I'm watching as they are forced to either get some sort of punishment (demerit) and call off sick, or come into work, suffer, and potentially (most definitely) spread it to anyone they transport. I felt so bad for them. I will never recommend this company to anyone who needs medical attention. I find it deplorable how they run their system. During my 25 yea as an ER social worker, Superior was our contract provider for the Level 1 Trauma Center where I worked. I was always impressed by the professionalism of the Paramedics and ENT staff as well as the RN they used for specialized transport. I had the sense that they were one step up from the other ambulance services that brought patients to the ER or did facility to facility transfers. read more

Under no circumstances should you let a Superior Ambulance transport you. They will bill your insurance, your insurance will most likely claim they are "out of network" and then you'll be stuck with a huge bill. My toddler needed to be transferred from Palos Hospital after an ER admittance for vomiting and dehydration. Palos did not have a pediatric unit; hence, the transfer was required. The trip was 6.9 miles and less than 20 minutes, but Superior billed me for 8 miles. The total cost of the ambulance trip was $6,600. My insurance would not pay for the EKG, the pulse oximeter, or the mileage, leaving me with a bill for almost $1,000. I did not CHOOSE Superior Ambulance and was told by Palos Hospital that we had to do an ambulance transfer, as my daughter had an IV in. When I called Superior, they were unwilling to help or assist me in any way. Never mind that there are No Suprise Laws in Illinois to protect people from this type of predatory behavior, you'll still get stuck with a bill. I've already contacted the BBB, but thought I should leave a review here, too. read more

We were billed $1300 after a fender bender for a paramedic to stand five feet from our daughter to say that "if she acts weird, take her to ER", I was shocked to receive this bill and for this amount for a 60 second 'assessment'. Tried to file an insurance claim, and the customer service rep offered me a slightly lower price pay today bc of insurance takes too long it will go to collections. I asked how they can do that bc I imagine they work with insurance all of the time. He said bc they are a private entity, they can do this... BEWARE- fraudulent billing practices. We were in the ER with our daughter and the doctors wanted her transferred to a children's hospital. They advised us to take medical transport and called the ambulance company. Superior ambulance company bills at rates significantly higher than their competitors, resulting in THOUSANDS of dollars in excess charges. Customer service's rationale for the excessive billing is that they are a private company, so basically they do it because they can get away with it. Or they're trying to at least- there have been numerous complaints filed against them to the Better Business Bureau, and there will soon be another. Avoid Superior Ambulance if at all possible. On June 23rd I had a stroke and went to Mercy. They sent me to Alexian Brothers and the Superior ambulance company was very kind in taking me, but the charges they made me are outrageous. They charge me $8,345 and I cannot pay that amount. I have already called them to ask them to reduce the amount since I cannot pay the bill with what I earn at work. My wife is also sick with cancer and we have many expenses with the rent and the bills on the house. read more

The service was fine, but the billing is ridiculous. They charged over $4200.00 for a 32 mile ride. It takes forever to get someone to answer in billing and when they did, and questioned the charge they basically said too bad. If I could leave zero stars I would . Medicare was filthy, driver had all his garbage in car 2 feet from me. Promised 6:15, came st 6:45. Wheelchair was duck taped in the back and one of the legs. The RN's st the hospital gave me a pillow to sit on , a pillow I'd like hold to them , as the chair looked so bad . The lift didn't work properly and he had to climb around me to get it going again. Then he took forever sitting in the van filling out paperwork he said. We get to my home and luckily my husband was able to lift the chair in the last step or i'd still be sitting there. Reserved for medical transport after procedure 2 weeks before procedure in Chicago. From hospital to my house is about a mile. Nurse called them when I arrived to confirm pick up. Time of pickup was 2 hours after I was done. When the time came no one showed up. Nurse called them and had the nerve to tell me two more hours to wait. Furthermore, inconsistencies in finding my reservation or knowing my last name by whom ever picked the phone. Nurse let me go given the circumstances and that by then I was super awake. read more

Like most people who have dealt with Superior, you learn about their shady billing practices. My son needed to be transported to a pediatric hospital for appendicitis surgery. Everything was covered by insurance, but some random $60.00 charge. It was explained to me that my insurance wouldn't cover it. I was told my insurance claim expert that Superior basically told them that they knew our insurance wouldn't cover it which is why they send it to us to be paid for to get a little bit more off the bill which was already over $4,000.00 I'm not sure how a company can take advantage of people like that. Feel totally ripped off by them. Minor accident, fender-bender. They popped onto the scene. I was later told 911 dispatch sends them out for ANY accident, but 911 administration says that is not the case. There was absolutely no care given, no vitals taken, no one transported to the hospital. After I received a bill for $900, I asked for my medical records (which they also charged me for) and was amazed to see that they had reported some vital signs that they never took and paperwork said I declined help "against medical advice" even though their own report said I appeared injured. No medical advice was offered either way. I have tried speaking to Superior about the inaccuracies in their call report, but Esmeralda refused to answer any questions and Kalisha responded "This is ridiculous" and hung up on me. Superior transported me from SSM St. Marys in Janesville WI to SSM in Madison WI. That is a distance of 41 miles. I was not critical but did have an IV so they could not let my husband drive me. I was billed $9000.00. Our insurance paid $2700.00 which was their maximum for an out of network provider. We are expected to pay the remaining $6300.00 which we believe is an unreasonable amount. My father needed transport from Palos Hospital to Lemont. Superior EMS was who answered the call. Two young ladies came to the rescue. They were approachable, kind and concerned for my father's safety and comfort. I had asked them if they could take McCarthy road because it was not as bumpy as Route 83. They were kind enough to do that. When they arrived at my father's destination they transferred him to the bed and he wasn't in complete agony. They made my father feel like he mattered. WORST EXPERIENCE!! I wish I could give them negative reviews. I am not one to write online reviews, but my experience with Superior has been truly awful. My son was transferred after birth to two different local hospitals (they thought he had a heart condition, but he did not). Shortly after, we were hit with a $17,000 bill for his two rides. Keep in mind the hospitals were local - one was 15 minutes away!!! After 9 months of constantly calling to get this resolved, My insurance provider reran the claims to be in network for us since we were given no option and they covered it. We were told by Superior everything was handled and to throw the bill away. All seemed well. Until 2 months ago when a new bill showed up and now they claim we owe them $6k, when Aetna claims to have already paid. I explained all of this to their billing department (they record the calls so this shouldn't be shocking!) and they are telling me I am wrong!?!? This company is disgusting. No compassion for others. I have been trying to resolve this for 13 months and have wasted SO MANY HOURS trying to get it sorted out (precious hours of my small maternity leave; hours of my work day, etc).
