Teddy a sweet pup but struggled with anxiety, reactivity, resource guarding and was VERY sensitive to being touched and would often lash out or try to bite. We were really worried about how to help him and how to curb some of these bad habits we'd no doubt reinforced with our own behavior. When I called Brett for the initial consult, he was patient, understanding but also honest and direct about the time and effort it would take and the changes we would have to make to have a real impact. We were open to the feedback and committed to making a change in and out of our home. WOW. We've been working with Brett consistently for 3 months and Teddy is like a new dog. He is calmer, happier, more obedient, and much more confident and tolerate of being touched (especially on sensitive areas like his paws!). Our friends and family have all been shocked at the noticeable difference in Teddy's overall demeanor (happier and calmer!) and behavior. Our groomer asked us what had changed as he was so much calmer and happier to deal with. I want to be clear this is no "magic pill" we put in the work but with Brett's guidance and structure, we cannot believe the results. Teddy is of course still a work in progress and we have more work to do, but seeing the progress he's made in such a short amount of time with Brett's thoughtful approach has been so exciting. I was nervous to see dogs on walks due to his reactivity and even though he was an angel at home, sweet as pie, gentle and obedient - taking him out anywhere was not fun for him nor for me. Zoom Room changed all that. Now we use a handsfree leash. No more 'no pull harness', just a flat collar. I take him anywhere and he's improved so much in terms of reactivity. we are not perfect in terms of dog neutrality yet but WOW we have come so far. I take him to Runyon and Fryman, which I would have never done before due to all the dogs. I'm excited now when I see dogs, to help him practice making good decisions. I couldn't have done this without Alex and Justin. We've done a combo of Agility, Obedience, Loose Leash Hiking and Calm Down classes. I called to ask what happened why I didn't get my receipt. And if they are aware of how Weights and Measures works with pricing. And that you can't Willy Nilly change prices and not communicate that to the customer. The person I spoke with on the phone happened to be the same person who caused the issue and we had a back to back on why you don't do that. And why you need to communicate to customers what's going on if prices are adjusted or not properly inventoried to correct price sku. I hope going forward they communicate transparent pricing on items to avoid these kind of kerfuffles. Retail folks, kind reminder your employer may not explain to how weights and measures works in California. If you encounter items priced lower than adjusted higher at checkout: California BPC §12024: It is unlawful to charge more than the posted or advertised price. BPC §17500 (False Advertising): Misrepresenting the price of goods or services is considered false advertising. For reference item showed lower price on customer facing screen, then showed a higher price after adjustment. Not trying to be difficult just put yourself in the customers shoes. If you see two people communicate to raise the price of an item and act like your aren't even a person in front of them. You'd be pretty ticked off as well. Moral of the story if the price is wrong in store you have to own and honor your wrong pricing. Then fix it so it is correct and not lose money on items. You don't do it in front of a paying customer. Because California BPC §12024: It is unlawful to charge more than the posted or advertised price. Update: Also fun fact item doesn't even appear on their website if you scan it with the app. So clearly not staff fault but proof pricing at corporate needs a serious overhaul. Sorry for being upset on the phone but the situation. But hopefully you do read up on weights and measures and call corporate to fix your sku's to avoid issues going forward. Jesse assured us that she had experience with this kind of dynamic. She strongly encouraged us to sign up for her "Puppy Rockstar" package which is eight sessions for $1,360. She came across as personable, confident, and knowledgeable, so we trusted her and paid in full upfront (though this was optional). Despite carefully following the program (including more than triple the 10 min minimum daily training time she advised) our puppy's behavior deteriorated. After three sessions, it was clear her training methods (which relied entirely on treat-based reward and offered no alternate tools or structure) weren't effective for our situation. We made the hard decision to go with a more intensive program elsewhere. When we contacted Jesse to explain our situation and request a prorated refund for the five unused sessions, she refused, citing a strict "no refunds" clause in her paper work packet. Her only offer was to put our remaining sessions on hold and extend their expiration, even though we made clear that we had already moved to other training out of necessity. It is important to note that the contract also included a clause discouraging us from working with or even taking advice from any other trainer during the program. In our view, this kind of exclusivity, especially in a situation involving a toddler and a rapidly escalating behavioral issue, was unreasonable and not in the best interest of our family or the puppy. Ultimately, we had to prioritize safety and act against the restriction as quickly as possible, even though we initially agreed in good faith. I made this clear to Jesse and offered a fair compromise, in my opinion, of allowing her to retain payment for an additional unused session as a gesture of goodwill. She declined. I voiced my frustration and, frankly, shock at her stance. When I told her I would be leaving a review of our experience, she said that doing so was "threatening her business." I clarified that we were sharing our honest experience so others could make informed choices. My wife and I don't see it that way-we believe sharing an honest account is important for other families deciding who to welcome into their homes with training. Her communication about resolving these issues reflects a rigid and transactional mindset rather than a client-focused one. That was particularly disappointing given how kind and understanding she initially seemed. I strongly advise others to approach with caution: If you choose to work with Proud Paws, I recommend avoiding prepayment, requesting a copy of any contract, and understanding there may be little room to adapt if things don't go as expected. Check out my other reviews-I hate leaving negative ones and have only done so once before. I much rather spread positive news with people and typically have much better luck on yelp finding the right providers. As an update: our puppy has been with a new trainer for just one week, and the change has been dramatic. She's calmer, better behaved, and able to interact positively with our toddler. It's been a complete turnaround. We're beyond relieved that we made the change, though still hurting from the way our family was treated here. I want the best for my puppies, so I asked so many different people where and how they trained their dogs. I received a few suggestions, but decided to do my own search...and I'm glad I did. Leo (Owner) and his amazing team of trainers TRULY care about the pups they train. Leo came to my home and wanted to meet me and my pups before I had to decide on making any decisions. After sitting down with him for about half an hour, I knew I found what I was looking for: Someone who wants me to have healthy and happy dogs. I signed up for the in-home training at first which is Leo coming to the house and training me on how to train my puppies (Archie and Charlie just turned 6 months and started with Leo and his team when they were 4.5). Very quickly, I realized I could not handle training both these puppies the way they needed to be trained. I discussed with Leo and decided to do a Board & Train. I like the schedule because I get to take the puppies on the weekends to spend time with me. Don't get me wrong, you NEED to train your pups on the weekends, but it's worth it and FUN. Archie has become the Puppy King (no offense to other puppies or their owners )). Charlie has a lot more energy, but has improved immensely! Leo's trainers are so caring. I feel my dogs get love with their training when they're not with me, and I couldn't ask for more. We are currently working on taking the CGC - Canine Good Citizen test for Leia. I like the option of lessoning in the park where there are more distractions for the dogs. It's also nice that the dogs can mingle before or after class (I've been to another trainer where all the dogs were petitioned off and cannot see one another). Her class is easy to follow and I love how at the start of each class, she asks how everything is going and if there's something specific that people need help with. If there is, then we'll start with that, if not, then we do a quick review and start to learn something new. Time goes by in her classes because we are all having fun! If you have a dog that is not ready to be with a group of dogs, you can still attend! She'll have you and your dog be further away from the group so you can still see/learn. I have seen my friend's dog, Max, go from a dog that just barks the entire time in the parking lot to a trained puppy in the main group! Her methods work and they work right away, but you do have to keep practicing with your four-legged friend. You can't expect to go to her classes once a week and have your dog trained. At Puppy Socials at the studio, there are two groups, one for small dogs and one for bigger dogs. She and her assistant will monitor the dogs and make sure that they are not being too aggressive or teach the shy puppies how to make their way out to shine (and they do after taking a couple of Puppy Social sessions!). You can also session private socials with just a couple dogs in the studio. Jacqueline loves animals and has extensive knowledge of them. She always puts the animal first. She has degrees in Exotic Animal Training, Animal Behavior Management, Wildlife Education & Sociology. She's very flexible with scheduling and will help make timing work for her clients. I highly recommend Jacqueline and LA Dog's Trainer to everyone!
