Jacqueline is an awesome trainer and her programs are so much fun for both dogs and their humans. Leia has taken Beginning and Intermediate Obedience in the park and Leia and Chewie have both gone to Puppy Socials at the studio. We are currently working on taking the CGC - Canine Good Citizen test for Leia. I like the option of lessoning in the park where there are more distractions for the dogs. It's also nice that the dogs can mingle before or after class (I've been to another trainer where all the dogs were petitioned off and cannot see one another). Her class is easy to follow and I love how at the start of each class, she asks how everything is going and if there's something specific that people need help with. If there is, then we'll start with that, if not, then we do a quick review and start to learn something new. Time goes by in her classes because we are all having fun! If you have a dog that is not ready to be with a group of dogs, you can still attend! She'll have you and your dog be further away from the group so you can still see/learn. I have seen my friend's dog, Max, go from a dog that just barks the entire time in the parking lot to a trained puppy in the main group! Her methods work and they work right away, but you do have to keep practicing with your four-legged friend. You can't expect to go to her classes once a week and have your dog trained. At Puppy Socials at the studio, there are two groups, one for small dogs and one for bigger dogs. She and her assistant will monitor the dogs and make sure that they are not being too aggressive or teach the shy puppies how to make their way out to shine (and they do after taking a couple of Puppy Social sessions!). You can also session private socials with just a couple dogs in the studio. Jacqueline loves animals and has extensive knowledge of them. She always puts the animal first. She has degrees in Exotic Animal Training, Animal Behavior Management, Wildlife Education & Sociology. She's very flexible with scheduling and will help make timing work for her clients. I brought my Old English Sheepdog, Kota, to Jaq for puppy training. At 8 months old, she was yanking my shoulder out every time we'd go for walks. After her training classes my Kota has severely improved! She walks very well on leash, she sits when told and knows to look at me for approval when we go out or before getting treats! I wasn't going to write a review because I don't like to express unfavorable opinions of a business just because It didn't work for me. Plus, I like to support female business owners. However, in this case, I felt compelled to give my opinion. Jacqueline's training skills DIDN'T IMPRESS ME, and they didn't impress my 7 month old (10 months now) super active, barking, German Shepherd grand doggie-Tori. Tori attended a couple of Group Obedient classes. I think Jacqueline means well, but she seems to be overwhelmed and distracted while having class and totally unprepared...talking more (for the entire hour) than showing hands on techniques for training your dog. Plus, she's totally short staffed. She had one young man assisting her, and it was obvious that he lacked in training skills and confidence; however, he was cordial. I think it's time for Jacqueline to take a break from training (especially group training) long enough to personally regroup (mentally, physically and emotionally) and to restructure and design new training programs and classes that are more conducive, helpful and productive for more meaningful and inspiring results for the dogs and their owners. In the meantime, I would highly recommend that Jacqueline, at least, develop an assessment program that will facilitate dogs of likeness who have the same training needs. Ex: High energy dogs need to be in a class with other high energy dogs...Barking dogs with other barking dogs....Perhaps...‍. I was done with Jacqueline when she screamed at Tori for barking (while in group obedient class) meanly shouting telling her to SHUT UP! I'm still trying to figure out how she thought screaming at Tori was going to stop her from barking, especially since she had been TALKING/LECTURING during the entire class offering no training techniques to keep her focused, or to keep her from barking. And Just For The Record: I found another trainer for Tori...She's doing well! Physically engaging and interacting with other dogs...participating in unleashed games and activities....AMAZING! No longer barking! Plus, I ordered a Dog Training Manual which is very helpful...Learning to train her myself. Take A Vacation, Jacqueline! There is a time when a break is necessary to resharpen our skills, and to sustain the quality of our business and services; and hiring a business consultant can't hurt. read more

Just completed the introductory obedience course for our 3 year old rescue, Hero. The tips and tricks we were taught in class have been a HUGE help in guiding us on how to handle those awkward barking matches with strange dogs during daily walks in the city. Jacqueline has a deep understanding of these animals and their behavioral rational and the methods she teaches showcase this knowledge. Her assistants, (particularly Diane) are welcoming and provide a positive environment where dogs and owners can learn to work with one another. In addition to our classes in the park, we initially attended a one on one evaluation to assess Hero's needs. I would also HIGHLY recommend the one on one sessions, as it gives her a better understanding of what specific challenges you'd like to see in your dog so she can help choose the appropriate tactics to meet them. We had a cross country trip in the middle of our training and her tips truly helped Hero get acclimated to staying with multiple new dogs rapidly and non aggressively. All in all, my wife and I have found L.A. Dog Trainer be a fantastic and flexible solution to our dogs behavior issues. I rescued my dog Maisy when she was 5 months old. She was afraid of everything having 1st been thrown away in a dumpster and then kenneled after she was found while being treated for Parvo. She wouldn't come out of her kennel, she didn't play, she ultimately didn't know how to be a dog! But with basic obedience training in Jacqueline's style (positive reinforcement) and fun rally and agility classes, Maisy is now (mostly) confident, happily walks, plays, jumps, and goes with me everywhere. Updated because Jacqueline cannot take a hint on 2/8: She did try to contact me to remove this review because it's "misleading" however Jacqueline proves her character to be distasteful yet again. The gossiping attitude stands strong on her end. Once again, I didn't ask for her to fill me in on another business and their practices. She's upset she was caught using a mildly racist and inappropriate tone with someone. Not once did she boast about safety, but only boasted about filling me in on another business's history. "You do know their history right" - the indicator she was switching out of a professional conversation into one that would make me fearful of the team I'm working with. The fear she's looking to instill in people who are "scared" to train their dog with the nonprofit is unfortunate. No one asked for her to go through the history with them!! I just wanted to politely decline her services until she made it about being scared of previously incarcerated persons. The fear mongering is another note of her racism and prejudice showing. Steer clear folks!! Connected with Jacqueline in regards to training my 6 mo. old puppy back in November/December. It was a great conversation and we informed her if we reached back out then we'll move forward since we were pulling quotes from various organizations. As we didn't move forward, time went by and she reached out on 2/6/24 to discuss if we wanted to book, etc. I informed her we were training our pup at the AMAZING Paws for Life nonprofit and would not need her services. That's when her tone took a turn and she said "You do know their history." Immediate change in her professionalism. She continued to unprofessionally inform me of this nonprofit and how I should be 'informed' of their background - working with formerly incarcerated persons as if that would hinder their capability to train my puppy AND their work for this community. It was an ugly tactic to use to gain business. I will never use services offered by LA's Dog Trainer. To use a conversation of this sorts as a way to gossip and spread misinformation and disguise it as a way to keep potential clients is absolutely icky. Paws for Life centers on rehabilitation of pups alongside those previously or currently incarcerated. Their services focus on rehabilitating dogs alongside persons in the system so that the recidivism of persons who were previously incarcerated DECLINES. As well as the care of dogs inside shelters that have a kill rule. When you work with Paws for Life you save two dogs lives - the one you adopt and care for AND the dog who takes that open spot in their shelter/adoption center. Take your business elsewhere. Jacqueline's main goal is caring about your fur baby's mental and physical needs as well as human comfort with their pet. The greatest thing about this training company is their wide range of corses they offer. My dog went on pack walks with Jacqueline for a few weeks. Within the first 2 he was more confident on walks and more confident around new environments. Her training classes are highly effective and super fun for the whole family. We worked with LA's Dog Trainer both privately and took her puppy class recently and were extremely disappointed with her training. During the private session, she kept ignoring specific questions we had about behavioral concerns and instead kept saying "oh I'll address that in my puppy class" clearly trying to get more money out of us. We ended up taking the class in hopes we would get the help she promised and felt like it was such a waste a time! Even though she had a syllabus of what would be covered each week, she didn't stick to it and often asked at the beginning of class "what did we go over last week?" She then would go over the same thing instead of working on something new. On top of all of that, she required a check for payment and waited 7 months to deposit it creating issues with my bank (checks are good for 6 months). In short- don't bother with LA's Dog Trainer. read more

LA dog trainer, this is a wonderful environment for all of us to learn a thing or two about how to communicate with our beloved pet. We all feel the frustration of our pets misbehaving. I asked LA dog training center for help and found numerous tricks of training I could take home and continue with my pet. I do not recommend this trainer if you are having issues with reactivity or any behavior issues. Jackie does NOT know how to deal with these kind of dogs. I attended her classes and everything she teaches can be easily learned by watching YouTube videos. My dog has reactive issues on leash which she had known about from the very beginning and said he would be able to attend the class and that his behaviors would improve, she then asked us to leave without giving us a refund. My dog never had any issues during class and played with the other dogs (I even have videos of this). She constantly criticized my dog and I during class but never gave any advice on how to fix the behaviors. They are very unprofessional and liars who do not like criticism. Please do not attend these classes!! I am now working with another trainer and my dog has improved tremendously. (*Correction*** Jackie commented "I am a Teenager starting high school..." However, it seems as though she is acting like one. I am an adult in nursing school and I do not know how my age changes the fact that she is rude and unprofessional.) read more

If you're looking for a solid dog trainer that knows her stuff, and doesn't ascribe to faddish garbage that can make problems worse, Jacqueline's your gal! Last year, we went searching for a good trainer for our then obnoxious, yet adorable, dachshund, Chewy. Chewy, while round, fat-pawed, ridiculous, and adorable, has a penchant for wanting to be the center of attention. And he will do stuff like, oh, steal that sock that doesn't belong to him and take off running, hoping to incite a game of chase, and when that doesn't work, bark incessantly until someone gets up and does something, anything at all! We were expecting a new baby, so obviously, this sass just wasn't going to work anymore. I called several behaviorists, and Jacqueline was the most generous with her knowledge, even without an appointment. We talked for a good long time, and she didn't keep her tips and techniques under wraps - she flat out told me how to get started! So we booked a private lesson, and over she came, bearing many treats and toys. She set us up with several techniques to keep our little hunter occupied during the times he was hanging out alone at the house. She also showed us how to stimulate his brain and indulge his instincts in a healthy way. Fast forward two weeks, and we had a different dog. Attending the six-week obedience classes helped tremendously too, and he got pretty good at several behaviors that we were struggling with. Since then, we've acquired a hyperactive but very intelligent pembroke welsh corgi, and Jacqueline has been so helpful with him as well. She's always encouraging and supportive, and really looks out for the best interests of the dog. read more

I signed my rescue pup up for training with Jacqueline on the recommendation of NKLA, where I adopted her from. She also came recommended from my veterinarian. Jacqueline was great - you can tell she truly understands animals and wants the best for your dog. She has a very straightforward, no-nonsense approach to training that is great for both you and your dog. She gives great direction and offers help whenever needed. My dog was abused and very afraid of other people and dogs. In the 6 weeks that she took obedience training, I saw her blossom. Jacqueline is fantastic!!! She first came to our house the day after our then twelve week old Standard Poodle arrived...We had no experience with puppies and weren't sure how our 9 year old dog would do with the new arrival. She helped us with crate training, managing the relationship between the dogs, and began training the puppy (and us). From the get go, everything she did (and had us do) worked. When he was four months old, we went on vacation and sent both dogs to her for a three week "board and train." Jacqueline was great about texting us pictures and videos so we could see his progress, and their cuteness. The puppy came back so well behaved, and the older dog even more so! The transformation I've seen in just a few weeks with Jacqueline's expertise is miraculous! I recently adopted a small chihuahua who began showing symptoms of separation anxiety and leash aggression and was at a loss on how to solve this issue. After speaking with Jacqueline, I enrolled in one private class then with a beginner group classes. The first two we observed as my dog was overly excited to be in the same space as the other dogs, but after seeing how much fun the other dogs were having and how calm they were, she wanted to join by the 3rd class. In learning different commands to help boost my pup's confidence through Jacqueline's training, my pup and I began a routine of practicing these commands daily and began to see drastic improvement each day and each class around other pups and by today's class she was able to socialize at the end. Jacqueline is a fantastic resource for positive reinforcement training. Her clicker workshop is well worth it if you're new to clicker training. It will really help you get your timing precise. I have done clicker training with both my dog and my cat, and I haven't just seen incredible learning, but it's also a fun bonding experience. My cat gets so excited when I get the clicker and clicker stick out! Jacqueline can give you great tips and ideas on how to improve your training, and also how to focus on specific issues. My dog had a blast in the intermediate class and loved meeting the other dogs while training. She also loved the exposure to agility, which I think we will look into more. Jacqueline is an amazing person, who happens to be an amazing trainer, also! I've never met one with so much skill, with a real heart for animals. Six years ago, she worked with my new rescue dog, who thought she needed to bully her way into our 1-dog family. It's been smooth sailing, ever since!
