Brett is fantastic. We have worked with many different trainers to help with our rescue pup Teddy (3.5, labradoodle) with little to no lasting success and we were starting to worry. Teddy a sweet pup but struggled with anxiety, reactivity, resource guarding and was VERY sensitive to being touched and would often lash out or try to bite. We were really worried about how to help him and how to curb some of these bad habits we'd no doubt reinforced with our own behavior. Brett is our fourth and last dog trainer! If you have a dog with behavioral issues like separation anxiety, reactivity or leash aggression, Brett will be able to help. I got a shelter rescue that kept getting worse with each trainer, in turn we were both riddled with anxiety, until Brett. He had control over my dog within 5 minutes of meeting him, it was such a drastic change, I actually got emotional. Brett has been absolutely wonderful in the time my dog Bailey and my family have shared with him. He is courteous and caring when it comes to the dogs he helps. Our dog Bailey is a very reactive dog and has a past that had her in a kennel for most of her life. This review is going to be so bubbly that you might think it is fake, but I assure you it's not. Brett took a massive problem our dog was having with leash reactivity and turned it around overnight. I cannot tell you how grateful we are for the simple tools he gave us to create this positive change in our dog. It's like a having a different dog. I also want to say I could never have posted and I'm sure in reality it wouldn't make a huge difference, but the fact is this training is still positively impacting my family, so I thought about this once again and had to post. I was a client years back with an adopted pit bull from the shelter and a shih tzu. My pit bull was a young full grown dog and mouthing really bad, even snapping. I can't say enough great things about Brett and his training methods! I'm so glad I found him. My dog, Nigel, had severe separation anxiety and was very reactive on the leash. We have used three other trainers with very little progression in calming Napoli's leash aggression, improving socialization skills, and decreasing anxiety. It's probably not an exaggeration to say that Brett saved my dog's life--or at the very least helped me save his life. I adopted a 3-year-old husky/corgi back in December, and quickly found I was in over my head. He was unsocialized, aggressive, and out of control. A "red-zone" dog, as you might call them. Within 3 weeks, he was running the house. My boyfriend and I couldn't hug or kiss without him growling and trying to get between us. He was snapping and biting to get his way, coveting his food, toys, and bed. I was living in constant terror that he would bite someone and seriously injure them and I'd end up having to put him down. On week four, my boyfriend and I met with Brett and he gave us a no-nonsense training plan to work through. My dog started behaving differently almost immediately. Brett explained that my dog was not calculatingly aggressive--just dominant-minded and fearful. Over the next 2 and a half months, Brett taught us how to work through a host of problems, step-by-step, always game to answer the million questions we had every week and take our calls and texts in-between sessions. My dog is now much more relaxed and obedient, and his aggression has almost completed dissipated. I figured my dog would improve, but I never thought he'd be totally rehabilitated. We're not quite there yet, but I can see graduation day on the horizon if we continue to implement the lessons we learned from Brett and stay consistent. I started working with Brett as I have a sassy dachshund / beagle mix and a pit mix who has problems with leash aggression. I had worked with other trainers in the past for the leash aggression specifically and found that none of the methods proved to be effective. My 8 year Old English Bulldog Portis is one of the best things to ever happen to me. He also has been a total challenge. I got Portis at 7 weeks old. He was the cutest. I had no choice but to take him home with me. Portis was a super star in puppy training at PetSmart. He was always a big focal point when I'd take him to the dog park or anywhere for a walk. I mean, who doesn't love bulldog puppies? I bring Portis to work with me every day. He hangs out in the warehouse with the warehouse guys and grew up being around people all the time. Maybe he learned some of his negative issues from all the other regulars he was around as well as me. I'm not really sure. One day, Portis bit some at work. He was someone coming to make a delivery and it seemed like Portis was marking his territory. The issue was resolved with the victim and we moved on. Throughout the next 5 -6 years, Portis and I moved downtown to a less savory neighborhood. He began to become more and more aggressive towards other people and other animals. I stopped taking him to the dog park to avoid problems and usually caged him when people came over who he had not socialized with in the past. It always created a lot of tension for visiting guests and for Portis who would just bark non-stop until my guests left. Then there came the moment when I had my "Final Straw" moment. My parents were visiting and came over for dinner. I had Portis caged. I took him out for a walk and my mother wanted to socialize with him but did not follow the instructions I gave her and Portis bit her, breaking her hand. It was at this point that I had enough and started researching dog trainers who could help us. After much work, my girlfriend and I found Brett who had a professional website, a lot of good online content about what he does and awesome testimonials. We called him to come over for a consultation. You could tell when Brett showed up that he has been around all types of animals with different levels of behavioral issues. He was very cautious in his initial meeting. I don't blame him either as Portis was red-eyed and ready to pounce on him if he had the chance. Brett very calmly spoke to me and my girlfriend about his training technique and what would be expected from us in order to get Portis' under control and to get him back to being a happy dog, programmed to do dog things and live a satisfying life free from the stress and the anxiety he was displaying. By the end of the consultation, Portis and Brett were still not yet friends but they could be relatively close to each other and not bark at each other. We decided that Brett was clearly good at what he does so we signed Portis up for what I believe were 8 or 10 private classes. Throughout Portis' training, we met Brett at different locations in order to train him under different circumstances. He came to our apartment. We met at the dog park and grocery store and in a few other places. We even had a session, at my request, in my car. Portis had a tendency to go nuts while in the car if he saw another dog, or a person getting to close. It's obvious that Brett cares very much about the well being of the animals he trains. He even offers group sessions at little to no cost on the weekends where you can bring your dog to interact with a whole pack of other animals with various issues that he's also working on privately. I found these particularly beneficial for Portis. All these years and he had no dog friends. It was kind of depressing I'm sure for him as well as me. In the end, Portis has improved leaps and bounds. When I have people over, I no longer have to cage him and when we are out and about, he generally follows the commands and techniques Brett taught us. He has not bitten or attacked anyone since meeting Brett. The real variable we learned is on us, the dog owners. Brett's tools I really think could work for any dog in any environment but it's also on the owners to nail these techniques down through repetition and reinforcement. Honestly, I never thought Portis would respond to training but he did and with incredible results when I was at the end of my leash. We adopted Hunter almost 4 years ago and we've been trying to deal with this aggression and fear issues since we adopted him. I found Brett through Yelp (as I often find other local services), and I am very glad that I did. As a first-time dog owner, I was (ok, I still am) very cautious about how to do everything I can for my new pup. Brett picked up the phone on a Sunday evening and consulted my decision-making process + provided great feedback about how to properly train a dog - it's really more about training the human to not allow the dog to create bad habits. I had a good feeling and scheduled Brett for consult "meet & greet" on day 1 (literally 3 hours after I got home with my new puppy). Again, as "green/naive" dog owner, there's so many things that I could have done the "wrong" way. By wrong, I mean the impractical way. With Brett's help, we're able to have less than 1 accident per day with the dog and some days are "accident-free". Mind you, the dog is far from perfect let alone being "potty trained". But his advice gave us peace of mind and has helped get our dog to not just listen but obey most commands starting at a very early stage. Other practical "human training" also include visits to the dog park (1st time for me), dog collar & leash purchasing advice, and weekly Saturday morning group classes (for socialization and more). While the rates aren't the cheap compared to group lessons at the local pet store, Brett is always available either by phone, text or email, which is an invaluable asset to me since I don't necessarily like to wait for my next lesson to ask relatively simple questions. I have always had to cross the street when I walked Nobu if there was another dog - I work out of my home and had to put him in a crate when clients came over... Have been doing training for stella with brett for the past 2 months and have seen nothing but improvements! When we first adopted stella, she was extremely reactive and had slight attitude issues. When I was living in town for a few weeks I had a problem with my mixed pit bull larue. My dog was constantly peeing in the house and jumping up on people.
