Absolutely bonkers is the only way to describe our meal here. We walked in with zero expectations…read moreand walked out already planning our next trip back to Dublin just to eat here again. We nearly broke our rule on not eating at the same restaurant twice while on vacation. Every single dish that came to our table was a small revelation. The flavors were bold, the presentation was beautiful, and you could tell real care went into every plate. We tried a little bit of everything and there was not a single miss. Huge shoutout to our server Matt, who took care of us all night. You can tell he has deep roots in this community and genuine pride in the history of the place, and it showed in how he talked about the menu and the restaurant. He made the whole experience even better with his warmth and knowledge. If you are visiting Dublin, do not skip The Boxty House. Ask for Matt if you can. Five stars, easily.

It was not too loud in our seats by the window where we could watch the action in Temple Bar. Boxty - think of a potato version of a crepe (a little thicker) - Gaelic boxty - 4/5 solid offering with a generous portion of steak on top of the boxty and with mushrooms and mushroom sauce - Chicken boxty - 4/5 chicken breast wrapped in boxty with a roasted red pepper on top and slice of chorizo (I didn't care much for the chorizo but my partner happily ate it) with tasty sauce with cooked chopped onions - concannon - 4/5 basically mashed potatoes on top of a little bit of cooked kale (said cabbage too but I didn't see it) - green beans with lemon and goat cheese - 4/5, tangy lemon forward I know people say this is touristy and that is likely since it is in Temple Bar and I don't see why that's a problem! Definitely worth trying when you're in the area.

Sunday afternoons at the Ashbourne Hotel can be a noisy, chaotic affair but great if you have…read morechildren. They have a bouncy castle and a lady that does face-painting so adults can sit back, eat their dinner and relax while the children burn off some steam. The food is adequate, there's carvery with all the trimmings and they're not stingy with the portions. It would be nice to have something to choose from other than the usual roast beef, turkey etc and the food looked a bit burnt from sitting in an over-heated hot-plate but once you know that's what you coming here to eat then everyone should be happy enough. The only issue I had the Sunday gone was that their website states that there is live music Saturdays and Sundays but when I asked the lady behind the bar she said there is no music anymore on Sundays. They should have removed this from the website as once we'd eaten it got quite boring for the adults.

For starters, we had the duck liver pate and bruschetta, which were both superb. Our main courses were both the lamb stack cooked medium. The mint sauce was especially tasty! We finished off with coffee and dessert. My wife chose the cheese cake. The name of my dessert escapes me, but it was a filled pastry with an ice cream. Our children's' meals were reasonably priced with generous portions. I would recommend The Loft to anyone!
