Why: Selection: This store has pretty damn much anything you could need, with limits. Kitchen, hardware, tools, electrical, garden, paint, nuts, bolts, chemicals. It's not a warehouse, it's a STORE. So calm down if you don't have every option, you're going to get in the ballpark. This fall I found a great manure fork here (no I don't live in Iowa but it's a great garden tool and mine got "lost" in my last move). PS, the big orange didn't even have one. Price: I was pricing Weber bbqs this summer and the units here were 10% less than pocket ace or Elk Grove. That got my attention. I recently got a great shovel for $16.99 on sale. Yes, a sale. You will have a range of options and usually there is a cheap(Er) option than at other stores, and better made. Recently I was pricing shovels at Home Depot and their cheaply made unforged (but costly) shovels couldn't match the shovel I bought at Hollywood. Help: someone can help you if you ask but you can browse without feeling like you are being stalked. Oddities: my last time here while at check out a customer came in cradling a duck and said out loud "I have a duck that needs repair." No one was fazed. We are ready to undertake a kitchen remodel. This is our second day on the journey. Last week we…read morewent to look at model kitchens at IKEA and today it was a trip to Lowes. Sam in their kitchen remodel department was very helpful. He was very knowledgeable about where to start and the procedures. He suggested we start with the cabinent before the countertops. I also learned that they are two differnt contracts. You don't do them together, which is confusing for me as don't you want the work people to coordinate so all the work gets done at the same time. We learned that they don't actually come to your house to measure for your kitchen cabinent. What if you measure wrong? We learned that you need to get permits before dong your own kitchen and that's the homeowners responsibility. We learned that painted Cabinets are more expensive then stained. Though stained means you'll be using real wood. Sam prefers natural stone due to its longevity. We're not sure how that would look with our fake wood/lament floors. Sam is referring to Natural as Granite or Quartzite. From looking at the chart it seems that Delton and Porcelain is are better when it comes to stain resistant and scratch resistant and heat resistant. I also like the lass countertops they had at Ikea which they don't offer At Lowes. From the sounds of it it's going to take around 2 months of life without a working kitchen for us. That doesn't sound good. That's a lot of going out to eat. Though if we do it this summer the good thing is we'll be eating lots of salads and sandwiches anyway due to the hot weather. And cold cereal for breakfast. It also sounds like we need to buy everything ourselves versus going through a contractor to ensure we are the holders of the warrantee. Apparently who ever pays for it is the holder. Thant's news to me. There is an additional 10 year warrantee you can buy for the countertops that's around $400. That includes any accidents by the buyer or malfunctions in the workmanship. He said it's worth it. Follow us on our journey.

And honestly their stores are nicer and the products seem to be better quality. I get most of my appliances for my properties here. Their delivery service is always great. The bathrooms are always well maintained. Staff once you can find them are always very pleasant and helpful. Even if they don't know something they are happy to find a colleague that does, unlike Hone Depot where "I don't know" seems to be an acceptable answer to customers. The staff at the paint station are remarkable. My only complaints would be pricing for some items are rather high, seemingly over priced and they do t carry replacement parts for things like ceiling fans, causing you to have to purchase a whole new one instead. As a person that tries to be conscientious about landfill waste etc. this is disappointing. Over all great place for your home improvement projects with plenty of parking.

Today was an intense day. When it was time for breakfast my husband went for the milk for his brand…read moreflakes and it came out warm. He checked the freezer and the ice cream was soft. Not good signs. He turned up the thermostat on the fridge and freezer in hopes to buy us some time. By the time I got down there for breakfast the milk was still warm, but the fridge kicked on, I was hoping it would start cooling down. By lunch time the tempeture was dropping. That's a good sign and bought us some time. When my husband told me this morning that the fridge was on fritz I immediately jumped on Consumer Reports and paid for a subscription. Once there I immediately clicked on refrigerators. They have all different categories: French Doors, Side by Side, Top Freezer, Bottom Freezer, Cabinet lengthy, and ones with no freezers. So many to choose from. It would have been so much easier if we could just rebuy the one we had. It's a good one, it lasted around 12 years. I personally like our side by side so I went to work researching them and picked out 4 that were top rated 74 down to 67 on Consumer Reports. I also looked at the French doors, but only one of them had water dispensers and the freezer space was less. I first got online and looked at our local hardware store, but wasn't able to find the ones I was looking for by their model number so I went onto Home Depot's site and was able to pull up two of them. Two is better than none so we headed to Home Depot in hopes they had them in stock. When we got to Home Depot I presented the print outs of the two I found online and they were both in stock. The showroom was packed with so many options. Thankfully J'Leesa walked us to the ones I printed out. Both looked nice, but the one had the Craft Ice Maker and that took up extra freezer space, so I passed on that one. We don't really need giant ice balls, it's not like we're having whisky on the rocks every night. We also looked at the French Doors one and he agreed with me, they lack freezer space. Not that we have a lot in our freezer, but it would be nice to have the space if we need it. We do stock up at times when meat goes on sale, so we need that extra room. We chose the GE 25.3cu ft. Side by Side Refrigerator in Fingerprint resistant stainless steel, Standard Depth. It's the same one they sell at Costco for the same price, Home Depot says it's $900 off, but to me that's the standard price. They have it in stock so we scheduled it for delivery on Thursday. That is if all goes well and they will take away our other one free of charge, just like Costco would have. The only different is we only have a 48hr window to commit to it after that it's ours, that makes me nervous. Maybe I should have gone with Costco as they have an easier return policy, but we'll see. I'm hoping for the best with this purchase. We also got the 5 year protection plan. I'm not exactly sure what that entails, but it's better than nothing. This process too around 4 hours. 2.5 hours researching and 1.5 hours in the store. I'm really hoping and praying that we made the right choice as this is one of those "BIG" purchases that hopefully will last us 10 years and not the 5 years Consumer Reports says it will last.

I wanted to do some home improvement projects around my backyard which involved cutting large amounts of wood and tree trunks (don't ask) so I cleaned off my miter saw and began cutting the wood. Several minutes into cutting the wood, smoke started billowing out of the miter saw. I'm not an expert but I know this couldn't be right. Something was wrong with this thing. I took the miter saw to P & M Tools and asked them if there was anything which needed fixing or if I needed to buy replacement parts. The employee told me it was the saw which needed replacing: It was more appropriate for cutting tiles than it is for cutting wood. He sold me a replacement saw for my miter saw. It was only twenty-five dollars. For the past two days, the replacement saw--a DeWalt construction saw--has been a perfect fit for my old miter saw. It cuts the lumber smoothly with little noise and, best of all, no more smoke! I can't recommend these guys enough. Instead of throwing away your old handyman tools which is no longer working, head on over to P & M Tools. They could have the replacement parts you need to get your handyman tools working like new again.

The owners are helpful if you have questions about a home improvement or repair issues and don't know how to go about trying a solution to the problem, or how to use a tool, or even what something you're looking for is because you've never heard of it, let alone seen one, LOL. I haven't come in for those yet, but sometimes I'd find an answer on Google, but the real-life application and execution of that fix to the problem doesn't work out very well, and I'm stuck. This is where Greenhaven Hardware as a smaller, mom-and-pop outfit would come in. At a big box store it might be hard to flag down someone to ask a question at all. But here at Greenhaven Hardware, there's always someone asking if you need help. We came in once to get some plants and had some questions and they gave us some good advice and our plants are thriving now. They also seasonally have vegetable seedlings for sale if your thumb isn't the greenest (that would be me!) and don't want to attempt to grow from seeds yourself. Sometimes they would also clearance out seasonal items because their store has limited space compared to a big-box, so you can also find some bargains if your timing just happens to find you catching some good deals. I don't count on that at Ace, but it's nice to support local even if their prices are slightly higher (sometimes quite a bit higher) because we can get excellent customer service w/sage advice for tricky home repair situations. Overall, I'm thankful we have a locally owned and operated hardware store still in our neighborhood and it's a great thing to have when experience and knowledge is what you're looking for to tackle more complex home maintenance or repair scenarios. This review is solely based on the kids workshop, not my shopping experience…read more Took my kids to the workshop in the summer and it was a great experience. Starts at 9am-12pm. We arrived around 9:30am, when we arrived we went to the table where you collect the stuff to build for that month. They give you an apron and the materials to build whatever it is for that day and they give pins for each project. They had tables set up with seats using their buckets and you sit anywhere there is an opening. Around the time we arrived, it was about 70% full. Took about 30 minutes for my kids to finish but by then more people started to arrive. This is an amazing workshop for kids to learn how to build things and get creative and on top of that it's free. My kids enjoyed it and we will be back again.

We contacted them to do a flooring job. It was found after they sent out people to do the floor and take our downstairs toilet out, that the floor was too uneven to install the flooring. Okay, cool. Asked if they did the leveling. No, they don't, but either we could find someone (if we knew people who could do flooring or home repair we wouldn't need to go through Home Depot) or they could direct us to some program they have called Pro Referral, which Hone Depot will put the project in and contractors can see it and contact you with an offer to do your job. We went through that to find RodCo Renovations. Another company involved with the flooring project (Home Depot doesn't employ anyone doing these projects, so we have 3 different companies involved to keep track of), came out after RodCo and told us the floor was still just as uneven as it was before. We've gone back and forth with all these companies since July 2nd. This whole time, being unable to use our downstairs toilet (because they took it out to put the flooring in) and having to move our washer and dryer back and forth because this project had been taking a month, so far, and looks like it'll be taking even longer because Home Depot seems to have no control over the project/product they offered and have been paid for. How do you offer a service and then tell the customer they're just "on their own" to figure out how to get a KEY part of it done before they can finish it all? It's actually ridiculous. Because we had to pay for the project, then pay for the leveling, which RodCo still hasn't finished correctly, and might have to pay out of pocket again to get the floor leveled because of Home Depot needing the floor to be leveled to a very specific measurement for us to quality for the flooring warranty. All this trouble for a kitchen floor is insane. At this point, we should have just hired a specific contractor to do the entire job because an already $4500 (which is way too expensive for vinyl flooring) project is turning out to be insanely expensive. I would absolutely NOT hire Home Depot or RodCo to do any projects. Romanoff Renovations (also through Home Depot) has really been the only company, so far, consistent with communication and trying to get the floor finished. Today leads the third round with this project and we are beyond tired of this situation. Now, RodCo is unresponsive, Home Depot is unresponsive, and I'm honestly just annoyed. Horrible business all around. If you have a home renovation project, it's better to either figure out how to do it yourself, make friends with someone who knows, or hire a reputable, professional contractor to do the ENTIRE job, so you're not dealing with multiple companies, like a puzzle, to get one project done. It causes a headache of epic proportions.
