When we were sat at the table, a birthday card was waiting for my mom. Our waitress Bailey was so nice and accommodated my mom's request to not draw too much attention to the celebration. Very cool that Venue 618 was the only NJ restaurant to make the recent Yelp Top 100 restaurants in the US. Sitting at the bar, we were served by Zoey, Steve, and Mike. They've re-done their cocktail menu to include beautiful color illustrations. I enjoyed "One in a Melon," a well-balanced whiskey cocktail with Frank August small batch bourbon, melon, poblano pepper, Aperol, and lime. This was followed by a tasty whiskey sour. My wife ordered a Lemon Drop martini, followed by a decadent chocolate-pistachio dessert martini. All of the cocktails were well-balanced and delicious. On the food side, I munched on a baked macaroni & cheese with chorizo. It was perfect! The Death of Hospitality brand thrives on personalization and unexpected surprises. Mixologist Steve, realizing that I'm a whiskey afficionado, surprised me with a small pour of Rock Hill Farms Single Barrel bourbon. This is a difficult bottle to find in New Jersey. It was clear that the allergy was not communicated to the establishment or within the establishment. Nonetheless, the concern was handled with care and thoughtful professionalism. The options that were still available to me or communicate communicated, and I had a wonderful meal. The grounds and garden are well designed for outdoor services. In this case, an outdoor wedding. Chairs were comfortable, and the fountain in the background created a lovely atmosphere and photo opportunity. The one critique I have is that no covering such as a gazebo or tent, was insight and thunderstorms were eminent. If I could recommend anything to the management, it would be to have this option on hand to avoid distractions from the actual ceremony. When thunder crackled in the background, we secretly hoped that the service would come to an end in time. Everyone was dressed in evening attire, so a gazebo or tent would have been appreciated. We were not inside more than 15 minutes when the skies did open up. Catastrophe averted. With the exception of one server who spilled wine on my son's newly pressed shirt, Service was meticulous. In the case of the red wine incident, this could have been averted by wrapping the wine bottle appropriately in a service linen. A little more training in this area would be recommend recommended. All in all, a solid four star event. The filet mignon, French green beans, and magnificent desserts were a five star Cleverly, our hosts prepared and end to the night with a coffee station and Donuts cleverly hanging on Hooks. The donuts were exceptional. It's difficult to rate without knowing the cost per person so I am limiting my rankings beginning with a five star and deducting minimally for a couple of challenges in service. She was responsive, understanding, and flexible throughout the booking process that we truly appreciated. As we got closer to the wedding, Ralph became our main point of contact and he was our Maitre'D. He was incredibly communicative, practical, and reassuring. He helped us work through the last-minute changes and was always focused on finding a solution. We originally chose Whitby Castle because having an outdoor ceremony on the grounds was part of our dream. Unfortunately, due to an intense heatwave, we moved the ceremony indoors at the last minute. I was nervous that it would not have the same feeling, but the space felt elegant, intimate, and beautiful, and our photographs still captured everything we loved. There were a few hiccups throughout the day as well, but the venue including Ralph and Rosa (bridal attendant) remained accommodating and worked well with every one of our vendors to keep things moving. They took care of us that day in moments where no one else was paying attention, and we are eternally thankful to them for that. Whitby Castle is a stunning venue, but also one with a team that genuinely tries to support its couples.
