After a season of skiing, probably 50 days, the integrated Surefoot boot heaters ceased working! One month one of them, and then next month the other one. Commendably the shop managed a fix, with external heaters and wires running up the outside of the liner, but that's not what I paid for or what I wanted. The problem with external wires is that when liners are removed or inserted it is very possible to dislodge a wire. That was part of the attraction of the Surefoot system in the first place. There is an engineering or production problem here, which needs fixing. read more

The manager is a pushy salesman. Rude and curt. Nicest when he sees potential sale. Boots are fine. Really tight at first, but definitely better after a 1 month break in. I you go back for service , a tweak or question he'll try to push you off. When he does minor work on warranty, he's quick to suggest you tip his staff. Went in needing some insoles made due to a terrible pain I was having in my boots (which were not bought at surefoot). Ray was very helpful. Made my inserts in one session and helped me troubleshoot the boot buckles to relieve pain I was having. Insoles are expensive, but to be expected since they are custom and made the day of. The combination of custom orthotic + custom heated liner + heated boot bag creates such an incredible experience there is an impulse to rush and tell ten friends (and we have.) Starting the day with a warm boot is a joy - and this will resonate with any skier, especially those looking for an easier foot entry experience; coming out of the heated boot bag the plastic shell is warmer and softer. Sliding the foot into an already warm boot is a dream - especially when the liner is moulded to the exact contour of your foot. Perfectly even and uniform pressure surrounds the foot; no more over-buckling to compensate for generic 'fit-anyfoot' liners. With a custom liner it's remarkable how just a little buckle tension is required for an entire day of skiing - including breaks and lunch. No need to touch the boots at all. The in-boot heating system is highly effective too, meaning the boots go on warm straight from the heated bag, and stay warm throughout the day from a heating element over the toes that is powered by a detachable rechargeable battery. The battery has three settings (1-2-3) for application of low-med-high heat accordingly. On setting 2, roughly 10hrs of heat can be expected, or about double the amount of time we usually spend on the slopes any given day. And there is an app for that! Put it in your phone and have even more boot heat info and options at your fingertips. This was a no-brainer for us and we're delighted; it's changed our entire approach to skiing as a family. It's also one of the increasingly rare but great examples of you get what you pay for. For my wife and I these will be 5 year boots, easy. The boot bags should last longer. So the investment amortized over 5 years is easy math, especially when backed by the fit guarantee (which I'm not sure we'll need anyway but there it is just in case.) When we were riding the Superstar chair my wife spontaneously blurted out "OMG this has changed my entire skiing experience!" Killington location: I'd like to start by saying that Adam was excellent. Super knowledgeable and professional. I really enjoyed my experience with him. I had been having a lot of pain in my new ski boots. I went into the Surefoot in Killington on a Saturday after the pain had become too much to handle. Adam got me squared away with custom insoles. Realistically, I just needed to have the shells stretched, but that work was included in the cost of the custom insoles ($250) so I decided to have them done. At the conclusion of the work, I was a little bit unsure if I had enough room in the toe area of the boots. Adam assured me that my name was in the system, and that with my $250 insole purchase, I could come in the next day and have the toe area expanded a bit if needed. The next morning (Sunday) I decided that I did in fact need to have the additional work performed on the boots. When I arrived, Adam was not in yet and I was greeted by the manager of the store. I do not know his name. To say this guy was a jerk is an understatement. He was extremely short and disrespectful with me and my girlfriend. He remembered us from the day before, and insisted that since we waited a day he was going to charge us more money. Seemingly, he made up a price off the top his head of $20 for each boot for the additional work. Even if this is their legitimate policy, they should not have told me the day before that the work would be included. I politely informed him that Adam said we could have the work completed today at no additional cost. He was insistent that he was going to charge us more money. I asked what time Adam was coming in so we could speak with him. The manager told me he would be in in an hour, so my girlfriend and I left and came back. When we returned, the shop was busy. Adam was upstairs and the manager refused to let us speak with him. He stated that "he was the manager" and that he could not have us continuously coming back asking for "free work". He said that even if I spoke with Adam, it would have to go through him. I am incredibly disappointed. I spent $250 on insoles I realistically didn't even need just so I could have the boot stretching work done. When I left on Saturday, I was extremely pleased and ready to go back and buy an entire custom insert and recommend Surefoot to everyone! As I said, Adam was great! Unfortunately, the manager of the store really ruined it for me. Had he not been rude and disrespectful when requesting we pay more, I would have been disappointed, but I probably would have done it. I would never recommend anybody goes and deals with this guy. I of course, did not have the additional work done that I needed, and will need to go pay another ski shop to have the boots stretched a bit more. I'm never one to complain, but I felt extremely disrespected and talked-down to. For a ridiculous $40, he lost a future customer and I will not recommend the shop to anybody. read more

The worst boot fitting service I have had in my 35+ years skiing. Went to Surefoot based on friend's recommendation. The "custom fitted", $1500 boot was the the most painful. Four return trips, loads of internet research and a call to another boot fitter and I realized they had sold me a boot that would never work for my foot shape. Apparently, what I needed was out of stock due to supply chain issues. But the pain, lost ski time and hours at the store weren't the worst part. The insulting and denigrating comments by the "expert" employees truly made this a terrible experience. Waiting on new boots til this fall and then will go to my local boot fitter. read more

Great footbeds! Ray went through the rational why the custom foot bed liners were good for me and he was right! The insides of my boots feel so comfortable now and my foot is not slipping around. Not worth the side trip at Killington. I have a Surefoot pair of ski boots I had made at Whistler. Top of the line, no gadget overlooked. The lining and the shell started getting uncomfortable. Took them in as I'm riding on the spare set of boots. Surefoot boots have a lifetime fit warranty. Instead, I got a hard sales pitch for a new pair. I listened for 20 minutes about age, materials, and how I just needed a new pair. Hogwash. Their guarantee is "If for any reason or at any time you are dissatisfied with the fit of your Surefoot Custom Ski Boots, just bring them into a Surefoot location where we will repair or replace them at our discretion and at no expense to you." That was their last priority. I was actually intending on a new pair after next ski season. I may still do that. When I do, it won't be Surefoot. For Sure. The shortsightedness of the store's hard sell pitch business model isn't good on the long term. They could have lost a sale and honored the warranty. But they could have kept a customer who would have given the company repeat sales in due course. Their insistence on a sale at all costs (pun intended) cost them not only a sale. But a customer. The guys here may remember me as "The Calf Lady". I'm both a power lifter and a skier. Two things that are an unlikely combo, not to mention that I'm also a woman. So I have pretty large, athletic calves. Finding boots was a nightmare but I found a pair that semi worked. At a different ski store, I bought a pair of Technica Ten.2 65's they have an extension in the back for my extra large calf. As soon as I got to Killington for the long weekend, I strapped on my boots and felt my legs go numb from my toes to the top of my calf. Talk about pain along with pins and needles EVERYWHERE. We ran around the resort from demo stores to boot stores trying to find the answer. Sure enough, one of the killington staff members told us to check out Surefoot Man, I CANNOT tell you how amazing this store and their employees are. It's truly a group of people who love to ski and want everyone to ski with them. I brought my boots to them and with an insole addition and some cuts to the back of the boot, I basically got a custom-made boot for a 1/8 of the cost! They worked with me to ensure everything felt great and nothing felt pinched, tight or weird. I'm telling you, if you have ANY issues or ANY discomfort, come to these guys. They know their stuff and help you keep the costs low, too. I strongly recommend that you see these guys, they're amazing. Check out my before and after photos! These guys, hands down, were the worst shop I've ever walked into. I've been skiing since I was 2, started racing when I was 6, raced into college, and worked in the ski and snowboard industry in hardgoods for 15 yrs on the manufacturing side of the business. In other words, I've walked into and worked with hundreds of ski and snowboard shops. I walked into this shop out of curiosity and asked a couple questions. This full-of-himself dude starts spewing off his ego filled auto-response. I TRIED to get a word in attempting to hint at the fact that I didn't need the 101, but rather was looking for a more technical chat. He didn't listen, talked over me, and kept on going. FULL of ego. I tried a couple more times to chime in, both times he again talked over me and kept spewing out of his mouth his schtick. Total used car sales guy. Twenty yrs ago I worked retail in a ski shop. Hands down I was the #1 in sales on the floor. Not becz I was a cheesie, but becz I knew my shit + I worked well w/customers. If there is ONE thing I learned - super basic skills - is to QUALIFY the customer. ASK QUESTIONS. There are so many levels walking through that door - you need to speak THEIR language - if you don't 1) YOU talk over someone's head -or- 2) you insult the intelligence of the customer. Either way, they walk. Asking questions, being REAL, and LISTENING, serves both the customer and your shop well. I used to get a ton of complaints about this sort of behavior from other shops, and compliments that I worked differently - thanks you buttheads, I stole your business all day long. As for the here and the now, I'm in the market for some custom molded liners and Surefoot will not be getting my business. 4 years ago I purchased the Surefoot system from the New York City store. I was fitted by Brad, who did a great job. All adjustments were done by the Killington store by Adam, Ray or Mark, who were knowledgable and professional. Even though my boots still feel great, they are flexing a little too much now, as I have skied on them almost 400 days. (ski instructor) Looking forward to the new memory foam and heated liners I heard about, I am getting new boots! I paid a fortune for my custom boots and have issues from day one. There idea of custom boots is to continue to stretch them till the boot looks distorted. A number of people made some unique comments of how my boots looked. Ray is a typical sales person and doesn't care about you after the sale. He become really irritated if you call corporate. When you do call corporate they give you a bunch of lip service and offered 200 dollars off a set of boots that I paid almost a grand for. I'm a Ski Instructor from PA who spent last week at Pro Jam which was held at Killington. I have terrible feet, no arch and an extra bone in each foot and have always had to deal with a lot of pain when skiing. then I met Adam at Surefoot and my life got a lot better!! I saw Adam Monday evening and not only did he keep the store open way past closing time to make sure I was all set for the next day but he set me up with the best ski boots I have ever had in my 48 years of skiing. I was expecting to go back every day after skiing for some adjustments but I never had to go back! I was pain free and thanks to the built in heaters, my feet were toasty warm. Adam also took the time to give me a clinic on buckling my boots and it definitely made a difference. What really blew my mind was when I asked the PSIA Examiner that I was skiing with if he noticed anything different about my skiing and he said that my stance and alignment was much better which allowed me to initiate and complete my turns better. He said "did you do something with your boots?" I told him that Adam at Surefoot built me new feet in my brand new comfortable boots! When the other people in my group complained of cold feet, I just pulled out my smart phone and dialed up the heater in my boots. I love this feature but I am not going to brag about it when others are cold as I was almost thrown off the lift. When you see the 1 star ratings you really have to question the reviewer. My wife and I had new custom boots built at the Killington Surefoot. These guys know what they are doing. Sure, you can go to a custom boot fitter and they'll take something off the shelf and stretch and pad the boot until it works for you, but you better be prepared for many repeat visits to get those boots dialed in. With the Surefoot boot, the shell and foot bed are the same as the boot fitters use, but the liner is formed to your foot. No generic liner padded to fit. It's formed to fit. With that said, they are still ski boots. If you want nice comfy boots, try snowboarding. But back to the other reviews. Yes, they are trying to sell you on a more expensive product. Their job is sales. As for the person who walked into the store expecting to school the boot tech (yes, it's easy to point this type of person out. They list their resume/pedigree), the boot tech has a job to do and should not have wasted his time with you, since you knew better. read more

I had a real mixed experience there today. In the morning, I went in and asked to buy some boots (note: they don't care who recommends you; if you mention it, they'll just stare back at you). Initially, Mark thought I wanted custom boots, but after I explained my price point, he agreed that we would look for standard boots. He took my measurements, brought down a pair from a previous season (so they could be sold at a discount - thank you!), and they fit quite well. There was a pressure point around my left ankle, so he heated the boot and stretched it a little; problem solved. He also gave me off-the-shelf extra-arch-support insoles, since I have high arches but couldn't afford custom ones. He stayed in my budget, and I bought the boots. This afternoon, after skiing, I went back because I had found another pressure point that I wanted taken care of. Ray checked it out and brought my boot upstairs to heat/stretch it. While I was waiting, I was dismayed to watch another shop employee (Adam) attempt to manipulate and guilt-trip another woman in the store into buying their full custom insole/liner package (~$1200). Anytime she asked a question, Adam would answer with a condescending tone, and he interrupted her multiple times. My anger at the situation was compounded by the fact that the woman spoke English as a second language, and was trying hard to understand and communicate clearly. Adam clearly believed that the only solution to boot fit was the custom product and was unwilling to work with her to understand her goals for a boot or find alternative solutions. Also, in the end, she decided not to buy the boots (excellent decision, given the circumstances!!!), and he started guilt-tripping her, saying things like, "I mean, no you don't have to buy them, even now that we've done all this work." He was just super mean to her. So, would I recommend this shop? Well, if you can afford their full package and want a fully customized product, complete with the jargon and VIP treatment, then this is a great store. If you're on a budget, make sure you're working with someone besides Adam (Mark and Ray were great!). And make sure that you're ready and willing to duel the sales people (I even had to do that a bit at the beginning with Mark) and stick to what YOU want from the experience. They aren't trying to listen and understand; they are trying to push product. But my boots are great, and I got them at a great price. What can I say? read more

I am now on my third set of Surefoot liners (all for skiing). Second pair that was made by Ray (but first at the Killington location). This last set of liners lasted 220 ski days (Surefoot state they will last about 200 days versus normal ski boots that lasts about 100). Mine started tearing apart where the tongue meets the rear of the liners and over the last two seasons I've had to tighten down the buckles one or two more snaps due to the foam giving in over time. All normal wear and tear. Summary - if you like me have unusual feet (I have long, narrow with high arches), nothing beats a full custom liner. Footbeds are key of course, and normal boot fitters can do a fantastic job with plug boots, but then the cost is similar to the Surefoot setup. Related to Ray being a "sales guy" as someone below is saying - I have two comments. First - yes, he is. He's also trying to make a living in central Vt - not easy. Second, in my case we recycled my old footbeds (since they were in good condition - just replaced the top layer) AND the old Lange shells (also in great conditions and they are a better fit for my skinny calves than the new ones we tried on). So - in the end, my "new" Surefoot boots were much cheaper than I expected, since the shells and footbeds could be re-used. And this was AFTER we tried on new shells. I call that EXCELLENT customer service - not a hard sales pitch. So - is everything perfect? No, I wish Surefoot had a location closer to Boston. If you like me do 90% of your New England skiing in ME and NH, it's bear to go to Killington for boots. EDIT: Yes, this is my first review under this username. I use yelp but don't take the time to write reviews (for the last 7 or so years). Usually I agree with prior reviewers. In this case I did not and wanted to add my two cents. read more

Went in here a few days ago to inquire about some footbeds as I have read a lot about their process and liked what they were doing and first off I don't what these other guys are talking about below me but they seem like "entitled douche's". Any who I walked in first thing after I arrived for some skiing for the week explained what I wanted and needed and he told me I sound like a good candidate for their footbeds so we began the process the gentleman who was working with me was well versed and had been in the ski racket for a long time any who he did my scans and measurements 3 times to make sure they were spot on he told me come back in 45 mins. I come back and they're ready to go and from just talking earlier he gave me a military discount (that they don't offer =) ) and threw in some swag any who if you read into their methods like me you'll realize even the best bootfitters cant replicate their measuring protocol and I'm sorry unless other places are taking a plaster or foam cast of your foot they are not going to make a foot bed as good .. So yes this place is awesome don't listen to the yahoos under me and don't be afraid to ask how long they have been working there because thats key in all of this read more
