Horrible boots! I thought it would be great to have boots that were custom made for me. However, they are the most painful boots that I've ever had! So much money, and multiple attempts to readjust, and finally, I just gave up. My shins couldn't last a day in those boots and then they would hurt for at least a week. So I didn't go for the full service, I just came here to get a custom orthotic done. I had a pair of new ski boots that I was happy with, and knew I just had to change one thing - which was the footbed. I have super awkward feet and my right leg is also a bit shorter than my left. There was a huge experience change after I got my custom orthotic done. The simple array of detailed scanners and detailed tracing really did the trick in making something painful for me to something rather delightful. It was still about $250 though... Oh and at least for the custom orthotic, they make it in front of you, so you between measurements and getting the footbed installed, its about like 45 min or so. I'm sure if I went for the entire package of liners, I would have some extra comfort, but I'm happy with what I got. read more

I've had these a year, had them adjusted four times, and they're still so bonecrushingly painful that they're useless. I've lost an entire season hoping to get them dialed in and my goodwill is exhausted. I'm not sure how many adjustments are needed before Surefoot will admit these are the wrong boots and start over, or give me my money back so I can go to a proper bootfitter. So it seems the business model is to convince us to spend $1400+ on a pair of ski boots that they promise to provide hours of indescribable pain and massive amounts of wasted time and money on the slopes.....interesting....... My iPhone was by far the finest purchase in my life. That piece of crap 1996 Mitsubishi 4x4 that blew its timing chain at 60k was by far the worst.....these surefoot neon green podiatric torture chambers are the second worst purchase Ive ever made! Please read this post and go buy your high end boots from a real boot fitter who will take time and expertise and listen to your feet and put you in the right boot the first time....you absolutely wont get that here. What you'll get is an untrained ski bum who shoots foam into the bladders of the boot liner and lets the foam do the work. Then you'll pay through the nose for ZERO customization consultation or expertise and may likely be in horrible pain after purchasing your $75.00+ lift tickets for days weeks and months to come. I have been back to this damn place 3 times in NYC.....once in Killington.....and once in Keystone. Each time the cramping is impossible and each time the local untrained ski bum has another thing to try which of course just starts the costly pain cycle over again. I limped into the Killington store complaining (yet again) after yet another lost day on the slopes and the "dude" up there said....."We gotta blow out the side, your right foot is 4mm wider than your left foot." Now...this was after 3 prior visits to other Surefoot stores and probably $500.00 spent on pain filled days of skiing. WTF.....shouldnt some one have kinda sorta looked into that maybe the very first time I got the damn boots? After all I paid easily 2x as much as regular ski boots. Meanwhile, a buddy of my was up at Stratton Mountain and bought a new pair of boots up there. He bought them from a real person who really fit him in the boot. The boot guy spent 1.5 hours with my friend getting the fit just right. My friend paid $800.00 and enjoyed lovely skiing from that point onward. I wanted take my boots and chuck them back through the plate glass window at Surefoot. I've easily spent almost twice as much and havent had a pain free day yet. All I want is my money back so I can go get a real pair of custom boots. And not have to limp to the apre ski bar. Honestly people, take your business to a real boot shop. Oh my how my opinion changed overnight. I got Julian M. a $250 gift card for christmas. My intention was that he'd be able to add to it in order to afford one of their top of the line, off the shelf boots. Well I don't know what I was thinking, because the idea of selling an off the shelf boot (even though they carry multiple models) was so abhorrent to them, they literally would not hear of it. Salesman: "Our custom boot is all about performance because it molds specifically to your foot's needs." Us: "Sounds great, but we don't have $1200 to spend on ski boots, could we see some off the shelf boots?" Salesman: Off the shelf is going to be horrible, the custom boots are totally worth $1200, believe me, you'll thank us in 4 seasons. REPEAT A MILLION TIMES. It was probably the most frustrating experience of my life. We went in there wanting to spend money, we wanted to leave with boots, and they wouldn't let us. They actually refused (repeatedly) to sell us a product from their store. I gave them an extra star because they refunded my gift card over the phone, we took the money to paragon, spend $600 on a pair of awesome boots that Julian M. loves. Do they realize that this is not just a ski supply store that happens to have some boots for you to try? It's a custom boot shop folks. They only one like it. They make a boot just for YOU to fit YOUR foot. This is where Cinderella goes when she wants to have a ski boot that fits as perfectly as her glass slippers. My friends told me about the wonders of Surefoot and they were right. Gone are the days of having to quit skiing early in the day because my boots hurt my feet so much. BTW, my boots were not perfect at first, but I just took them back and told Surefoot the issues. The sales staff could not have been nicer. I don't normally write bad reviews but I feel after multiple disappointments I must post this. Firstly when I got the boots I went to big sky. The first 3 days was spent in absolute pain as the boots were so uncomfortable. I called the store back in NY and was rudely told they would settle to my feet. I couldn't stand it anymore and ended up renting a new pair and shelving my brand new $1200 surefoot boots. Upon returning to NY I went to the store and they did replace them and the new ones are great so that was good. But I added $375 to get the boot warmers with the battery. What they don't tell you is that the batteries only last 2 years and the replacement is $305. I only skied 8 days with the boot heaters and now they are junk (that's $37 per day of skiing). I'm not paying another $305 for something that should work. The staff in the store are quite flippant about this. I suppose they are used to people with lots of money but I'm not a rich man I just wanted comfortable boots with warm feet. Don't get the boot warmers. It's a ripoff. Overall the experience has been very unsatisfying and frustrating. read more

I've never had a day of skiing where my feet felt comfortable and didn't develop foot cramps. Came to the conclusion that, for me, skiing would always be an activity that requires a bit of suffering to enjoy the good parts. The good typically outweighs the cramps; nevertheless, it's a labor of love and suffering. After hearing good things and reading positive reviews, I finally decided that I'd spring for the $1500 cost of a Surefoot pair of boots and came to Park City this winter ready for comfort and enjoyment. Had a positive experience with the fitting process and was stoked to try out the boots. Went out for a few days and realized the Surefoot boots were causing more cramping than my old stock pair ever had. Tried everything the guys in the store had to offer and skied on 3 different boots they suggested. Nothing helped. Sadly, all the boots caused me pain, and we could not find a pair that worked for my feet. Fortunately, Surefoot was willing to issue a full refund, so I was able to get my money back. Unfortunately, I wasted a day of skiing in the store, getting fitted for boots; at a daily lift ticket price of $270, I was pretty frustrated to lose an entire day because none of the boots worked, and I was stuck sitting in the store for four hours. Lost one of my three days of skiing and left the trip with the same pain I've always endured; very disappointing. Overall, the Surefoot team was helpful, but it was a huge bummer not finding a pair that allowed me to enjoy skiing all day long. I had read the reviews that Surefoot can work for any foot and their claims that the custom fitting process eliminates the problems of normal ski boots. I do not have crazy-shaped feet or any massive abnormalities, so I was surprised they couldn't make it happen. Now I'm back at square one and am unsure of what boots to try next or how to approach skiing comfortably. Surefoot is definitely worth giving a shot at, but be warned that the custom fitting process is not the sacred end-all-be-all fix to boot discomforts that they claim; they might not work for you. Be very careful of the Lifetime Guarantee. It states in the fine print, "This guarantee does not cover the natural breakdown of materials over extended time and use." This basically means the only thing important in the guarantee, and the only thing likely needing protection, is excluded. If the lining breaks down, you are out of luck as Surefoot will not stand behind it, and they will tell you so in an arrogant, condescending and harsh manner. The sales pitch was "never need to buy boots again." That certainly seems consistent with a Lifetime Guarantee. Too bad that really means "read the fine print............you're out of luck if your boot loosens up." Save your money. Buy your boots from someone else, and pay half to two thirds less for the same thing. Any legit manufacturer will cover the shell for a warranty claim. Any good ski shop can fit you to perfection. Don't waste your money on custom liners as they are merely expensive and no better than any other boot material out there. Be cautious of Surefoot. They have a unique attitude in the retail world. They challenged my intelligence, credibility and recollection. They offered $50 off a $1,500 set of new boots to accommodate me. Obviously they do not care. read more

I traveled 2 hours from New Jersey to finally see what Surefoot Ski boots were all about and I am glad that I did! I was greeted politely at the door immediately, was told I would be seen as soon as a Surefoot employee was available. After waiting only 5 minutes Tyler introduced himself, then did my computer foot mapping. He then chose 2 boots he felt would fit my wide foot accordingly, and let me choose which I felt more comfortable in, never once trying to sell me based on price. Before I went to Surefoot I had a love-hate relationship with skiing. My feet were constantly cramping and cold and my knees always hurt. But after getting their custom boots and liners, my whole experience with skiing changed. Now, skiing is always an enjoyable experience because my feet are so comfortable, my knees never hurt and the boot heaters they added keep my feet nice and warm! More importantly though, the customer service is outstanding and no matter what Surefoot I walk into, I always get the undivided attention of an expert who makes sure my boots always feel just right. My praise for Surefoot doesn't stop there though Getting custom orthotics from here is by far the best thing I've done for myself in a while!!! Being a teacher and standing nearly all day and recently moving to NYC and walking everywhere took a huge toll on my feet, knees and hips. I tried all different types of sneakers but nothing helped. Then, I discovered there was a Surefoot in the city and decided to see if they could help. We purchased a total of 4 boot fittings and only 2 out of the 4 worked as the other 2 just were so uncomfortable and actually hurt significantly. We were in Steamboat for a total of 4 days on the hill and 2 of those days were spent trying to get the boots to fit, work and stop hurting big time to no avail. We then spent countless hours working on new fittings and nothing worked. Trying to get a refund and SORE FOOT said no way. Now I am now working with Credit Card Company trying to get refund on my card. Unless you ski 30+ days a year, highly don't recommend. read more

So, I called Surefoot (NYC) And was told by "John" that a custom orthotic footbed and custom heated boot liner would be about $660. Not bad, I thought. Drove into Manhattan, had to pay for parking. Had an 11AM appointment. Made sure I was there on time. "Bob" decided to show up and open the store at 11:15. Things happen. First thing Bob did was to try to tell me my shell had to much volume for my foot and leg. Wanted me to look at one of their shells (for an additional $300-350). I opted to stay with my shell, thank you. BTW: I heard him doing the same thing to another gentleman who came into the store after me. And this gentleman was twice my size. Back to me. Bob confirmed, that yes, the footbed and heated liner were about $670 (no big deal on the $10 difference). I decided to go forward with the fitting. All went well during the fitting process. I take my boots to the register and find out that the heated liners do NOT include the price of the batteries (first I hear of this). In shock, I ask " well, how much are the batteries?" Bob tells me $385!!! Would have been nice to have been told that prior to agreeing to the footbed and liner. So, Bob tells me "you don't have to take the batteries". Well, that was a big part of me buying the liners. So, I get socked for $1,150. Moral of the story? Stay far, far away from Surefoot. Very shady business practices. read more

I have been really really disappointed with my surefoot boots. I got them about 4 years ago and I have not been comfortable skiing once since then. This season, i rented boots for some time so that i can actually enjoy skiing. They have this "fit guarantee" but what that means is that they will adjust your boots until they feel right. The problem is that it's such a pain to bring the ski boots back and forth for readjustments and then ski in uncomfortable boots all over again when the readjustments don't work, again. I have had my boots readjusted three times already and they are as hard, stiff and uncomfortable as before. And I just wasted another half a day in whistler skiing in these boots. I wish i got some credit back so that i can just buy a new pair of boots but of course, that's not part of the guarantee. Awful product and the notion of a "guarantee" is a total catch. read more

Six years ago I fell from a ladder and received a compound fracture of my left ankle. I have been skiing for over 40 years. When I broke my ankle I was told not to ski for a year and after that not to buy new boots for at least six months to a year thereafter. The compound fracture after several operations left my anklebone protruding at a odd angle. It constantly rubbed against the side of my boot. I first attempted to purchase new boots at Hunter Mountain ski shop. The woman there had showed me Full Tilt ski boots. She did not have a size that fitted my foot. I finally purchased Full Tilt boots at another ski shop but to fit my ankle the boots had to be size larger than what I would normally wear. After three years of wearing the Full Tilts they started to irritate my ankle to the point it became very painful to ski. After returning from a trip to British Columbia I decided to buy a new set of boots through a fitter. A skiing buddy had recommended Sure Foot and I visited them in NYC. When I went, I brought my old ski boots. The young woman at the shop was not interested in examining the boots or my feet. They were willing to order boots that they thought would fit me however, they wanted me to first purchase one of their custom-made inserts. Luckily I looked further. Outstanding ski bootfitting store on the Upper East Side. I got a completely custom-fitted pair of ski boots in under two hours. They scanned my foot into a computer (so cool!) and found a ski boot shell for my feet. i went next door for a drink while they computer-milled an orthotic, and set up my new boots for the customization. I came back, they injected foam into a custom boot liner and presto! New custom boots! The price is on the steep side, and busy hours bottleneck quickly. But the guys that work there are very helpful and the service is second to none. They told me if I had any problems to bring the boots in to any of their stores (20-something around the world: Colorado, Utah, Europe, etc) and they'd do work for free, basically forever. I had mine shipped to my condo in Breckenridge (avoiding airline costs) and I can't wait to start skiing them! Think snow! read more

As a former competitive racer and bumper (late 80s- early 90s) and coach for the last 20+ years I can say with total confidence that the ankles and therefore the "ski boots" are the single most important element of the sport. I have been a fan of Surefoot for 20 + years, originally working with them in Steamboat as an athlete and then in Deer Valley and Killington as a coach. Recently I began to work with the NYC location last year with a modification (6th toe blow out) an this season to get on the newest Lange Shell and the new X2 Surefoot custom foam injected liner. The new liner is undoubtedly the nicest liner available on the market! Although I call NYC home for most of the year I have always reserved the mountains as the venue for buying my boots and getting the performance fit I require. THANKFULLY that has all changed since Tyler Cataldo came from Keystone to NYC. NYC now has 20+ year experienced guy who is an honest to goodness boot fitter that I can depend on for the real deal! I couldn't recommend Tyler or his crew (who are learning from one of the best in the industry). He has really raised the bar in the East and I couldn't be happier about that. As a coach it is my job to effect change in peoples skiing and one absolute way of doing that is to have the best fitting most appropriate ski boot for your ability and on snow goals. What a disaster. I bought a $1200 pair. They were excruciating - completely un-skiable. After one adjustment, the pain was somewhat less but the performance was terrible. Furious that I have now wasted 3 days of a 5 day ski trip to Whistler, I tried to return them but the manager refused. Instead he re-made one of the boots. While I was there I noticed that half the people in the shop were also getting adjustments. That's the problem. They guarantee they will adjust the fit until you are happy. But that means that you will spend your vacation sitting in a surefoot store rather than skiing. read more

I do not agree with the low ratings of some previous viewers on this Sure Foot location. I've experienced nothing but stellar service here. Tyler is the Manager here and his service is exceptional. He has been fitting boots for 18 years and it shows. He is patient and knowledgeable -- a wonderful combination. Yes, this is a custom shop for footbeds and ski boot fittings (which are notoriously difficult to get right) and it is not inexpensive. However, if you are an avid skier and/or have equipment problems that are getting in the way of enjoying the sport, this is a wonderful solution. I have been Surefoot customer for many years. My first fitting was in Vail many, many years ago -- most of the storefronts are located in ski areas. I've needed some adjustments over time and it wasn't until I visited the Sure Foot in New York that my minor problems were finally solved. Excellent boot fitter! I'm a PSIA ski instructor and originally purchased my boots at Surefoot two ski seasons ago. This summer I developed a hammer toe and thought...oh shit...my shell had to be expanded. Went to Surefoot early season...Tyler (boot mechanic & manager) said expanding was unnecessary...and recustomized my inner boot to accommodate my toe...in less than 30 minutes. Fix worked perfectly and I had a painless 30+ day season. Plus...the fix was 'no charge' because I'm an existing customer. read more

Once again, a great custom fit from Surefoot. I bought my first pair of custom ski boots more than 20 years ago and have only purchased boots from Surefoot since. I buy new boots after about 100-120 days of skiing, which is usually about 5-6 years or so. After 2 very successful fits by Tyler Cataldo who was the manager in the Keystone shop at the time, I went recently to Surefoot NYC where Tyler is now the manager. Not only did Tyler remember my face and name, but he also remembered my severely pronated feet and out of alignment knees. We chose a boot for the shell fit, then Tyler made a custom footbed and customized the shell to accommodate my protruding ankle bones. I went for the new memory foam bladders. Once the boot were custom fitted to my feet and ankles, Tyler went through the process of measuring my knee alignment and then added cants (angled shims) between the boot shell and the outsole. Today I got to try the new boots for the first time and they were spot on! No adjustment needed at all. I like the new memory foam boot. Slightly warmer than the previous version I had. The process of custom boot fitting and custom knee alignment has made a huge improvement in my skiing. I highly recommend it for skiers of all levels. Ski boots are the most important piece of ski equipment by far. In my opinion, the only way to buy boots from Surefoot is to allow them to do what they do best -- don't skip the custom footbeds and bladders. Purchased a pair of custom orthotics for a pair of AT ski boots (around $200). I brought in the boots, which I had used for a few years, with a new pair of intuition liners I had purchased elsewhere. They heat molded the new liners and punched out the toebox in one boot for just the price of the orthotics. I actually came back a few days later and had the toe box pushed out again with no additional charge. For the last 10 or so years I've experienced painful plantar fascitis (at least that's my diagnosis) with ski boots if I kept them on for 3 or more hours at a time, even with the use of an orthotic (albeit a cheaper, non-surefoot orthotic). The work I had at the surefoot nyc store totally cured my problem. I was a little worried about going to a ski shop in Manhattan, especially with AT boots, but I could not be more pleased about the result. This store has surprisingly poor reviews on yelp. It seems like people might not totally understand the concept. Go to surefoot if (1) you have foot pain while skiing and want to get an orthotic or custom liner or (2) just feel spending a lot of money on fancy, comfortable ski boots. read more

I've been a client / customer since 2001 and have had wonderful experiences dealing with Tyler in the NYC location but have need service while skiing in Utah and had wonderful service there as well. If you are serious about having a proper fit and willing to pay a little extra to ensure that fit then don't think twice about going to Surefoot! Your skiing and your feet will thank you for it! Bought Surefoot custom boots on sale at the end of last season at the Surefoot store in Canyons, Utah. At the start of this season did not think the fit I had gotten was quite right so took them to the Surefoot store in NYC. Service was great. With no hesitation they cut new orthotics at no cost plus did some work on the boot liner and shell. All of that helped a great deal but after skiing another few days on the boots this season I was still not 100% satisfied with the fit of one of the boots. Took it back to the store and they did some tinkering. Am now in love with the boots. Perhaps the best recommendation I can give is that my wife had chronic foot problems for years with off the rack boots and this year bit the bullet and bought Surefoot custom boots. She is FAR more comfortable than in any previous season. A few take-aways from my experience: 1. Getting a boot to fit well is a bit of both art and science as each foot is different and can be different depending on seemingly minor things like width of sock. 2. Manage your expectations. If you expect to walk out after 1 hour in the store with a perfect fit you could be disappointed. Take the long view as you'll likely have these boots for many years. 3. The NYC Surefoot store is small and as each customer wants a good fit you may have to wait to get the fit you deserve. Best to go during off hours and you'll likely wait less time. 4. These boots are more expensive than off the shelf boots. You're paying a premium for the service. Take advantage of the service as it's built into the price. If you just accept an "OK but not great" fit you're not getting your money's worth. It's up to you to give Surefoot the feedback they need to make the fit great. My only regret is that they do not have a shop downtown where we live; it's a bit of a schlep for us to go the store on the Upper East Side. read more
