Be very careful of this place!!! I took my 6 year old daughter in here. They did their test and said she had a astigmatism and needed corrective glasses. $500+ later we go to pick up the glasses and she complained of not seeing well. The doctor checked her vision on the wall chart which she could not read with the glasses. I made them do a retest which they claimed she had perfect vision with the glasses they made for her. Over the next 6 months she tried the glasses with no luck being able to see better. We then took her to a pediatric optometrist who tested her and said she DID NOT HAVE astigmatism or need corrective lenses. So by going to this location I flushed $500+ down the toilet. 2-8-21 Update. Surf city reached out to me via text. Unfortunately they just fed me more garbage and did not care that they are prescribing glasses to a young child that does not need / require glasses. Be very careful of taking your children here as they will do more harm then good. read more

My prescription was wrong!! Told them at the pick up that I couldn't see well, she said they are new so try them. I went back weeks later and told them again and the woman told me to keep trying and maybe move my computer screen closer. Listened to them because they are the experts- right? Went back the third time and they wanted to retest my eyes for another prescription. What a joke. They wouldn't give me my money back for the glasses that were the wrong prescription and wanted me to go through the whole process again. I left the glasses and walked out! 500 dollar loss!! I went into surf city optometry expecting my insurance to cover the cost of the eye exam and for it to be a pleasant experience. The person scheduling my appointment on the phone confirmed that my insurance was in network and would cover the FULL appointment. Once I showed up for the appointment and went to pay, turns out my insurance did not cover everything. At the end of the appointment, I requested my script so that I could go to a different location to get contacts. I was NOT given the script. Instead, I was then PRESSURED into purchasing a set of contacts (for one eye, not even both) for a ridiculous amount. The lady helping me said the price is "comparable" to Costco. I felt extremely uneasy and pressured about purchasing the contacts. I even stated that I wanted to go to a different location for contacts more than once. She began to tell me that my insurance might not even cover Costco, so I just need to purchase through them and it's the "best deal". At the end of it all, I ended up going back into surf city not even an hour later and asking for a refund because I knew something wasn't right. I shouldn't feel pressured into purchasing something at an optometry. Turns out, I was being up charged a crazy amount. Once I asked for a refund, I was finally given my script. I'm never one to leave a review but don't want this to happen to someone else. I will say the eye exam it's self was fine. However, everything else was not great. I would not recommend. read more

Expect less, pay more. Sounds like the opposite of a famous retailers slogan, right? Very appropriate here. Thought it was rude and taking customers for granted to lock the door during posted business hours. Had to knock and wave down a employee to come over. They would open the door a inch and it was my job, the customer that keeps them in business to convince them to open the door and let me in. This would happen each of the nearly dozen times I came over. It's like this place is a illicit speakeasy. Very rude. The actual doctors visit went perfectly well. Issues arose when picking out glasses and after sales support. Found some glasses I liked, thought the price was high and looked online to see if that price was right. To my surprise, the manufacturers very own site had the frames for $200 less. When I brought that up, they said it's a different model, it's not. Then said it's because I have insurance. So I'm being punished for being insured? It was almost the same price for my glasses as being uninsured. Weeks gone by before the frames came in, with a large scratch on the lens. Tried to live with it, but it was annoying to see it all the time when wearing my overpriced glasses. Came back to the speakeasy and they tried to fix it but couldn't. Didn't offer me a old fashioned, Shirley temple or even water while in their hot business for an hour. Rude. They then said they can fix it one time after paying a fine. Yep, I have to pay a fine for getting warranty work done. That's the customer service you get for overpaying for glasses here. I wore the scratched lenses and weeks later was called with a voicemail still on my phone they got the replacement lenses and "just need to pop them in". Apparently that's speakeasy code words for they need to keep my glasses and cut the lenses, days later they will be ready. I only had one pair of glasses with me because I thought they would be "popped in" with new lenses that didn't come damaged. Had to come back with a second pair of glasses. Came back, said the right code words at the rudely locked door and they worked on my overpriced damaged glasses. Came back again, said the right code words and when let into the speakeasy they acted like they don't know who I am. Did some convincing to jog their memory and my fixed glasses were produced. They use the lame COVID-19 excuse as a scapegoat for locking the door, but there are easy measures to be safe without being rude. This is the only business I have encountered that locks their doors because of COVID-19. They should permanently keep the doors locked and turn off the lights since they take customers for granted like they are entitled to them. They pay for positive Yelp reviews by giving you some eyeglass cleaner in exchange for a good disingenuous review to artificially boost their rating. Maybe that is Vodka in that spray bottle? A nice little squirt in your mouth when you're driving behind some putz in a slow Prius hogging the left lane on the 405? Maybe a squirt when some inconsiderate person is holding up the line at Jimmy John's? Ordering a sandwich via just uttering one number is such a monumental life changing decision. Take your time holding up the line at others expense.... Don't believe the positive reviews. They are paid for. You pay more here for the privilege of less customer service. This location overall is very professional and has some really high-tech equipment that I've never seen or used before to check my eyes, so it was a pleasant surprise! I just received my new glasses today and they're very cute and am please with how they look. However, my only but still pretty relevant complaint is that the frames itself that I selected were priced at OVER $200 (not including insurance), though I just searched online right now for the same EXACT frames and so many different stores are selling them at $100 and under! That was also pretty surprising and hurt my wallet's heart. With that aside though, the staff there were all very nice and I greatly appreciate that! Just wish I could've done a little more research before splurging Update: I went back two days ago to pick up my mom's frames and the lady (I forgot her name, sorry!) kindly explained to me why these frames were more expensive :) I totally understand now and it's really worth the money. read more

Surf City Optometry - My new Emporio Armani 1092 glasses! - Optometrists Near Me - Huntington Beach, California

I've been to many optometry offices throughout my 50 years of wearing glasses and rarely have encountered such a high pressure sales environments such as Surf City optometry. Furthermore as a matter of practice Surf City optometry write subscription that last only one year despite the fact that in California a subscription is valid for two years. This is done as a matter of practice to drive increased revenue and NOT for the health of the patient. When I asked her why not allow two year subscriptions I was informed "why does it matter you have insurance" - which only reiterates the fact that they are more interested in selling overpriced eyewear and less concerned about the patient. I highly encourage everyone to know you're rights and seek a better option that is also concerned about your time and money and avoid excessive insurance cost that all of us pay with increased premiums. Without question, I will start taking my business to an optometry office that cares about patient and not about making money. Those overpriced $300 glasses just got more expensive!! Took away a star because the demo lenses that came with my frames were discarded when my prescription lenses were installed by the optician. Every place I've had my glasses done in the past has always returned the demos wrapped up. I'm irked is because if I ever decided to sell my frames, I would have liked to have the demos, especially since they were AR-coated Zeiss's (even though they were non-prescription) with the frame's brand etched on it (Lindberg, an expensive brand). It would make tracing the lens easier since the frames are a thin flexible wire that essentially holds the lenses in place with tension and do not represent the true shape of the lens. Let's hope I get used to the Neurolenses because I'm experiencing peripheral distortion likely due to the 1.67 high index material recommended to me by the staff. Neurolens has a return policy where I would need to return the lenses, which would leave me with just the wire frame. Surf City offered to replace the demos with plastic ones, but I think to make it right, they should contact the frame manufacturer for a replacement set. I think it would be a good practice for the store to ask customers if they would like to keep the demos, or just don't discard them at all. read more

Paid $200 + to get new lens for my Ray Bans. 2 weeks later got new lenses but they ruined the frame. Frame does not sit even anymore . On asking how can this be fixed was told "THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO we dont have the tools to fix Ray Ban". Well that was $200+ for a pair that I am not going to wear anymore. (Imagine if someone had saved money to get new lenses , imagine the disappointment) read more

He kept on makin' crass remarks and makin' things awkward. He should really not say bad things about his doctors and staff. Those things should be in-house n' address at staff meets, ya know? Common sense, don't bite the hand that feeds ya! Staffs pretested the machines for us he said everything looks good and healthy, and even said don't worry about glaucoma. But you're not a licensed doctor to give any diagnosis or medical advice. You don't know our family history, you talk too much. I mean, qualifications? Oh you said you're licensed? Edit: After he said he was a licensed optician, my friend looked him up and he's not even certified. Check out the ABO licensee database! The saving grace again was Jason who noticed how uncomfortable we were during the whole process. I think he knows how weird things were! He is so kind and understanding, tries to work with patients to help with their specific needs, and he listens. I feel very comfortable seeing him. My favorite optometry place I had a horrible experience at my last optometry place where they tried to charge and max out my insurance when it was not necessary. At Surf City Optometry, I had the opposite experience. I've been here twice now for contact lens, glasses and dilation. My first experience was an examination for contact and glasses. It was quite easy scheduling an appointment after work on a weekday. When I arrived they set me up before Doctor Dinh came in to make things fast. The girls at the counter were extremely nice and professional. They walked me through everything and told me what would happen before it happened. I felt very taken care of. Once I met the doctor, she was so friendly and sweet. She got me in and out pretty quick. Compare to other places, they charge me a different fee for each type of contact lens I want. Here, they just did one exam for all types of contact lenses and another one for glasses. I was very glad and appreciative. I like that after she was done examining me, I was sent to their guy that did the breakdown of pricing. He walked me through the finical aspect of it and gave me a rebate to get some money back. He too was very sweet and went through the breakdown easily for me to understand. The second time I went I saw a male doctor for my dilation since Dr. Dinh was busy. The whole process went quick and I was on my way in no time. The office was fairly large and I like that everyone there had a certain role. The friendly staff definitely knew what they were doing. The inside of this place is very organized and clean. I enjoyed my time here and recommend anyone who needs to see an optometrist to come here. I do not think you will be disappointed. read more

Amazing service from everyone here at the office. I needed glasses and contacts for my vacation and of course I procrastinated til the very end. I came in to surf city optometry and they were able to get contacts for me the same day and back up glasses for me for my trip. Jason cut my glasses on the spot since he had my eyeglass lenses on the spot. Lisa got me my year supply of contacts along with a wonderful rebate to help save me on cost. I love this place! Everyone here is so friendly, efficient, and kind. Today was my first time here and everyone made me feel so welcomed. Victoria was my pretester and she was so nice. All the equipment were disinfected and everyone is wearing a face mask. I felt very safe here during COVID. To start off, going to a new doctor of any kind is always nerve wrecking and makes me anxious. However, I saw Dr. Michael Jitosho (he also goes by Dr. J) and he is the best optometrist I've ever seen! He is full of excitement and passion about what he does. He made me feel comfortable, welcomed, and excited about getting a new prescription that'll help me see better! He was so informative and educated me about the importance and overall health of my eyes. Most doctors office I've been to, they were more focused on getting the job done and getting me out. They will hardly hold a conversation which makes it awkward silence. But not here!!! Dr. J continuously made sure the conversation was flowing and I didn't feel awkward at any point! I've never had a doctor who made me feel so welcomed. He is amazing at his job and you can tell he truly cares about his patients' needs and wanting to get to know them on a personal level. It was my first time here. Making an appointment, the girls that greeted me at the front desk were all very friendly. The young lady who did all my preliminary eye exams and the optometrist were exceptional, professional, and made me feel welcome and at ease. After that I was sent to Kevin who came off a little over the top to begin with, he kept bringing me over glasses I didnt like... as soon as I didn't find glasses I liked his whole tone changed, he went so far as to sit with me for an extra 5 mins (after I had already said I wasn't purchasing glasses) and started bashing my employer. It was the most uncomfortable sales situation Ive ever been in... after I listened to him complain, I asked him "are we done?". And that pretty much sums up my whole experience, started off great and ended very awkward and uncomfortable. read more

During the eye exam all the optometrist did was brag about how awesome he was (affiliated with Nike and other well known companies). Then I had to paid way more for contacts than he quoted. When I asked for the Rx to take to Costco their demeanor suddenly turned cold and unfriendly. I only went once because I did not like how they treated me. Would never go back. read more
