She worked with me on a payment structure so I could still be seen, which meant more than I can express. What truly stood out was how she handled the appointment itself. She reassured me that my prescription had not changed and took the time to clearly explain that the symptoms I was experiencing were normal following a concussion. They had already processed my order under the new prescription, I came back and told the doctor that it was giving me headaches and wasn't working, she then made an excuse saying oh that was your old prescription. I asked why she was telling me to try my old prescription with these contacts she gave me. I took the contacts that they gave me open them and after two sets neither of them right eye or left eye fit correctly. I reached out and told them I would be going to a different optometrist, but that I wanted to return my contacts. They told me because I opened the boxes that they gave me that were incorrect. They could only return the unopened boxes, but that they could exchange them with Cooper vision but we're still going to be unable to provide me a return their representative. Vanessa was extremely argumentative on the phone and told me that they stand behind their customers but that because I wanted to go somewhere else, there was nothing they could do for me. Told them I'd never come back and I'm going to dispute their charges to VSP and to my credit card. Her excuse was they would take a loss on their error so there was nothing they could do for me. Plenty of better options in the area! Update, went to a lens crafters and got a different prescription with a different axis and cylinder and no headaches or issues.

My primary need is seeing my computer screen, but when I sit down everything is blurry. Instead of addressing the lens issue, the staff tried to "rig" the frames by adding double nose pads and bending the ear pieces so tightly they dug into my head to force the glasses higher. When I returned after my first pair was finished on 3/16, a different staff member admitted the lenses were made incorrectly, yet they repeatedly mentioned a one-time fee for the correction as if the error was my fault. Between the initial fitting and the follow-ups, I spoke directly with four different staff members on the sales and fitting side. I received a second set of lenses on 3/25, but they were just as blurry. Trying to find the "sweet spot" in the prescription caused so much eye strain that I was in tears by 10 AM the next day. When I finally asked for a refund, they refused and even told my insurance company no. I am now out 400 dollars, I still do not have functional glasses, and I was never even given a copy of my prescription. I have officially filed a formal complaint with the California State Board of Optometry regarding the refusal to refund for a non-functional medical device. I am also reporting the office for violating the FTC Eyeglass Rule, as I was never provided a copy of my prescription after my exam. While the energy in the office is positive, the policies regarding defective products and the lack of empathy for inaccurate results is unsettling. If your prescription doesn't work out the first time, be prepared for a very difficult and expensive struggle.

Dr. Nguyen was professional, thorough, and took the time to explain every step of the exam. She listened to my concerns and was incredibly helpful in finding the right contact lenses for me. Instead of rushing into a prescription, she gave me trial lenses to test out first to make sure they were the right fit and comfort level. I was going to be in HB for just 2 weeks and need my new prescription filled. I read the Yelp reviews for the closest places and decided in HBO. They took me as a walk in, had no problem with my prescription and billed my out of state insurance like it was no problem. Lens Crafters wouldn't do that. Dr. Tsai came out and took care of me initially and was very professional. Their prices were pretty comparable to what I'm used to. If I lived down here I would have them as my go to opticians. It's better in my mind to support a family business than a giant retailer like Lens Crafters anyway. Genuine personal service is far too lacking these days. read more

My 4 year old and I just had our eyes checked by Dr. Ivan. He is so good at dealing with the little ones...this was Elizabeth's 2nd exam. He retained the old records on-line and was quick to update her prescription. This was a tear free experience and I ended up needing a mild presription for reading to which he helped pick the frames for. This was a nice experience. My 2 year-old played with the toys in the lobby and was safe and sound when we were done. So nice, so clean and very friendly and extremely competent! HB Optometry has the best selection of frames! I have been a customer for 7 years, and I just purchased my 3rd pair of glasses. Dr. Shilah Tsai has been so helpful each time I've come in to try on frames. She has the best eye for what is going to fit my face. She is also really informative and patient. Everyone who works here is pleasant and nice. I also love that HB Optometry has a broad selection of petite frames because most other places, including Costco and Lenscrafters, mostly carry frames that are way too wide and big for me. read more

As somone who is always looking for a trustworthy and affordable specialist especially a healthcare realted one, I was happy to have found Dr. shilah here at HB Optometry. I wound up coming here for a small emergency when I got stucco debri stuck in my eye from doing some outside work on my new home. He was also very wise in terms of the anatomy and physiology of the health of the eye. It was sad to see him since has moved on from this location. The technician who did intake for me was very nice and efficient. She definitely knew her stuff. However, I think it may be a bit too sterile in that she was too efficient that any personable, bedside manners with patients were lost in the process. I felt like I was being whisked away from one machine to another without a chance to catch my breath. Dr. Yim, the owner of this place, did have excellent bedside manners. He greeted me, allowed me to talk, as well as informing me of what was going on with my eyes. He had an excellent tone when speaking to me, almost radio-like ASMR quality. He really shines when he asks which lens is better, "1 or 2?" He was not condescending at all and was very personable in that he meets you where you're at in terms of understanding. He does a very good job of "accommodating" you (pun intended) throughout the process of an eye exam as well as recommending additional services that is covered within your service to make sure your pupils are in great health such as a pupil dilation follow up. The optician, Laura, was very nice to me and did not try to hard sell me on any optical wear. I felt like I could decline at any moment. She answered all my questions patiently. Overall, I would recommend coming here for your eye exam if your insurance covers it.

Well, I can now confirm that Dr. Smith and his staff get it right the first time, and my new glasses have me seeing better than I have in years. The last three optometrist had trouble and I had to settle with "close enough is good enough" solutions. Dr. Smith said that he couldn't improve the vision in my left eye, but he sure could correct the vision in my right eye, and boy was he right about that. I can now read street signs all the way down the street and a newspaper with out eye strain. If you are tired of messing around with others, then give Dr. Smith a try.
