I booked a technician spray tan over a month in advance for an event. I spoke with the owner to make the appointment. when I showed up no one was there to spray me even though she saw my appointment in the book. the girl working was nice. she called the technician and she offered to come but it would take a half hour at least to get there or they could do it the next morning. while I appreciate what they offered I had made an appointment for a reason. i have two small children and no formal childcare. skipping bedtime or being spray tanned first thing in the morning isn't feasible with a baby - disappointing to say the least. read more

With the Groupon and convenience, I first gave Surf City a chance a few years ago to get a spray tan. Born too pale to get a timely tan, and too susceptible to skin cancer, a spray tan is my savior if I want to look more toned and fit for a special event or a shoot. The Norvell works great for the spray tan. I'm a little hard of hearing so I'm always afraid I won't hear the instructions and I'll turn the wrong way and mess up, but I haven't had any issues yet. When I first came to Surf City, it used to be the kind of spray tan that would only show up a few hours later, but now it shows up immediately and must be showered off after 12 hours to remove the color on the surface. I think I preferred the old way, where the color would come later, as the immediate tan made me more anxious that I'd mess it up while it was still settling. I learned after my first spray tan that it is best to keep your body straight (elbows, stomach) for a couple hours so it doesn't mess up in the crevices while it still dries and settles. I prefer to have someone drive me so I can keep my body straight in the car more easily, but sometimes I must drive myself. After I drove home from my most recent tan, I noticed there were parts on my stomach and under my breasts where the color looked uneven and I thought it got messed up. Fortunately, after I woke up the next day, under my breasts turned out fine and my stomach was mostly okay. I also prefer to get the tan on the evening before the event. It is easier to keep straight and let it settle while you sleep. In my experience though, it does stain pretty bad so be warned if you have white bed sheets. Consider using towels. The tan usually stays for a couple of days, 2-3 at best, and then you're just stuck trying to wash off what remains after that. I usually have weird pinpoint spots around my hands and feet, and it looks too dark on my face-- but my face fixes well with a little washing and makeup. I like that Surf City has monthly specials on their Facebook page as well. read more

This place is great! Nestled in a cute, welcoming plaza - the environment is warm and inviting before even stepping foot in the door. The staff here only heightens that feeling. Heather was wonderful. Knew what she was talking about and juggled between customers flawlessly, as this place does seem to get pretty busy. I wish they would ope. A sister location closer to Philly, but in the meantime, escaping to Surf City for an accelerated tan every now and then doesn't seem so bad ! :) also would like to note the place is spotless. Really like this tanning salon, all the prices are very fair, & they have discounts all the time to bring the price down even lower The beds are new, kept up, and very well maintained, the waiting area is very nice and it hasn't been used by me but once and not for a long time. Overall this place is super clean!! The staff is very friendly and always on top of their game! When you walk in your instantly greeted, asked your last name so they can get you checked in, and ask politely what you would like to do today! They truly make it an awesome experience! Usually tanning places like this will push lotions on you to buy like crazy! Not here! I had to ask and then found out they had great prices, discounts for joining and being a member the entire time not just day 1, and they don't make commission on selling the lotions so they are not pushing certain brands that make them more, they are really there to help you get what works for you! I am new to the area. Stumbled upon this little hidden gem. I've been tanning off and on over the years. I was going on vacation and wanted to get a base tan before I went away. I gave Surf City a call to find out their hours and tanning packages offered. Stacey who answered the phone was extremely friendly and helpful. She took the time to answer all of my questions. I went in the next day to see the facility. The place was extremely clean, they enforce social distancing, mask wearing, both by staff and clients. They sanitize everything from the pen you use to sign consents, countertops, to the tanning beds and changing room each bed is located within. All of the staff I have met have been helpful, kind, friendly and personable. They tend to everyone's individual tanning needs. I requested a specific post-tanning moisturizing lotion, which they didn't carry, but gladly ordered it for me. I have been to a few places over the years. But this by far exceeds my expectations. read more

i tanned here last spring and i loved it. the beds and booths are really nice, fairly new, always clean, and they have a huge variety of different tanning options. i always left very satisfied and rarely had to wait to tan. i purchased 1 month unlimited of high pressure bed use for around $70-80 and it was totally worth it. read more

This establishment is the cleanest and nicest as far as staff that I have ever encountered. I have been going here for over five years for the spray tan booth. I used to get my spray tans done by a woman in Cherry Hill but it always came out uneven. I was scared to try a spray tan booth because I thought it would come out orange or uneven. Surf City Tans machine is completely opposite. You get to choose your colors so when you get there make sure that you choose the right one. For your skin tone you might have to come back twice to figure out the perfect one. I use the venetian medium and everybody thinks that I just came from the beach. The instructions are so easy on the machine and dries right away so you don't to worry about putting on your clothes and it wiping off.I can't say enough about how awesome this salon is. And the owner is meticulous about cleanliness and customer satisfaction. read more

I used to go to tanning salons where they would spray tan you personally but I find that Surf City's tanning machine is private and Does a way more amazing job than any person can do.
