I have been on an ice cream kick all summer trying to visit as many creameries as possible. So after a long day of fishing in Westport, I decided to give this little ice cream shop a try. I was dying of thirst and needed a place to use the bathroom. The location appears to be a gift shop with an ice cream business on the side. Regardless, it is conveniently located at the waterfront. The shop did not have a ridiculously number of flavors. I would say it had enough. I decided to try the Mango sorbet on a waffle cone. The ice cream was delicious and I was pleasantly surprised by mango flavor. I think what I liked the most about it was that it wasn't super rich and that helped quench my thirst. I was dissapoined the establishment does not have public restrooms. Actually most the business in the area are the same way. For myself this is the approach I took, as I eat ice cream rather slowly. Inside there are vibrant colors all around and even has a section of children books and DVD's for your kids to browse through as you wait in line for your turn to get ice cream, or a waffle cone; this idea in my mind is a very ingenious idea and I applaud them for this. I got the Huckleberry cheesecake, it was milky, rich and even had chunks of cheesecake within the ice cream. The waffles are made fresh for a bowl or cone. They had most of the essential ice cream flavors. I felt like the staff (three workers) could have been more friendly. When we asked to try some of the flavors they gave a decent tasting scoop first but then when asking for a second flavor to try the scoop was half the size. We had a group of 7 and felt as if they could have gave us better service since it wasn't busy. read more

It's really hard to miss this place as it's not only a great location on Westhaven but the aroma of the waffle cones wafts every which way and makes it impossible to not pop in! We went on a sunny April Monday and the kids enjoyed cookie dough and cotton candy ice cream. My son was extra lucky as he got to return to the shop that Saturday with Dad and went for the peanut butter chocolate (oh did I mention Umpqua Ice Cream?! Yum!). Surfer Girl has a pretty large selection of ice cream, sure to satisfy anyone's personal preference. They get a big thumbs up for carrying local premium ice creams like Umpqua and Cascade Glacier. I personally went for a Chocolate Chip Mint (made by Umpqua) scooped into a fresh made waffle cone. The quality of the ice cream was super high, the cone itself had a wonderful flavor and texture, and it got bonus points for not becoming compromised and turning into a leaky sieve as so many cones are apt to do. I was so eager to dive into it that I forgot to take a picture beforehand, as evidenced by the half eaten cone picture I did include with this review. The price was reasonable for the cone, particularly compared to what you expect for touristy or beach areas. It is associated with a comic / toy shop, providing not only some cool stuff to look at but also a nice selection of comic based posters and art throughout the ice cream section. Went in on a Sunday evening and we loved the shop! The ice cream was solid and the vibe of the shop was amazing. But there were two teenage boys working who argued about who had to serve us and were arguing over who spent more time in the back playing video games. We felt uncomfortable as they barely listened (gave us the wrong scoops, we just let it go since we were over it) and in general, was a bad experience. I will end our week in Westport with a five-star review. Surfer Girl is right along the waterfront and I highly recommend you stop here when in Westport. We went twice. Both times I got the Marionberry Sorbet because that is just something I have never seen anywhere else. It is FANTASTIC! I got a single scoop on a regular cone the first visit. Second visit, I up-leveled to a double scoop in one of their fresh waffle cones. You can smell the waffle cones as you walk up the street. Your nose will know you are getting close to Surfer Girl! Anyway, it is a little pricey for the double scoop in a waffle cone, but so worth it! The amount they put in your cone is astronomicial. When I saw how much she was scooping for the first scoop, I thought she must be scooping out both scoops at once. Nope! That giant scoop went down into the cone and she put another giant scoop on top of that. It was far more than a pint you'd get at a grocery store. And that Marionberry Sorbet was so refreshing! My mom is a licorce fan and absolutely loved that they had licorice ice cream, despite it turning her lips and tongue black! And my daughter loved her cookies and cream and mint chip. 100% satisfaction across the board for all of us. This place is a must if you find yourself in Westport. read more

It's an ice cream shop combined with a pop culture shop full of fantastic geekery like 80s toys, superhero artwork, collectible drinking glasses and Star Wars ships.
