It is worth the hype! Having such a large parking lot is such a plus in the city. This place is cool. Modern and a little funky. Very casual and relaxed but would never call it a dive. The place buzzes with energy. I'm not much of a beer drinker but they are famous and their beer is canned and sold everywhere that's good in the midwest. The pizza was all that was promised. I ordered the custom pepperoni pizza. It was incredible. The service was very friendly and efficient. We sat at the bar so it was easy to chat with the bartender and ask for opinions. Trivia was a blast it was all answered through our phones. Much better than the old-fashioned shouting out answers the quickest. I returned to Surly for the first time since the Pandemic. Much is the same- good beer, festive beer hall like atmosphere, but the menu has changed- for the better, at least for vegetarians. I was thrilled at the number of reasonably prices options that did not have meat. Tonight I chose the smoked tofu bowl- which was enormous made up of tofu, root vegetables, mushrooms, kale chips and more. Hearty and tasty. Perfect for a fall evening. When Surly first opened at this location, I am not sure what they were aiming for but I am happy where it has landed. The food is a step or two above what you would find at a gastropub, but still approachable and tasty for those who want vegetarian, something healthy. And the beer, it's good. Surly made its name with bold, hoppy IPA but it is there other beers I like. Tonight I started with a Pentagram, a brown style sour, an example of what a sour should be. I moved on to the Petit Ami, a low alcohol farm style beer. I love this style and it was a great version of it. read more

Was able to grab a bar spot at 3pm on a Saturday. By 430pm the place was packed. The space itself is large, warm, and has some sweet mural artwork. I am not an IPA fan and tried a few taproom only brews and enjoyed them all. The servers were all attentive, polite, and let us sample before ordering. We did not eat, but the pizza looked like it is worth a try. I was expecting more bottles to go for purchase, but they only really carry the limited brews that demand a very high price point. Would like to come back in summer when the outdoor area is in full swing. read more

As out-of-towners, we asked a few people where we needed to eat, and the choice was clear: Surly! After going, I totally get it. The vibe is everything! There is tons of indoor and outdoor seating. We chose a spot on the upper balcony and watched the sunset with the band playing below and people enjoying themselves on the beautifully landscaped grounds. It's so chill and energizing all at the same time. The pizzas were a deal! I paid about $15 for a pizza and had half left over to enjoy the next day. My favorite was their summer special! Not to mention, they have lots of fun events going on. It is here that I was introduced to the incredibly competitive sport of speed puzzling. Who would have thought this was a thing?! It's now three months later and I am traveling the world, competing in international speed puzzling tournaments, thanks to Surly.... just kidding- that WOULD be pretty cool though ;-) read more

Beautiful night to sit on the Surley patio. We got there early on a week day to try to avoid long waits and were successful (got there about 5:15pm). We had a beer with our pub passes then looked at the menu. I had the mahi mahi tacos. Two small street tacos with no sides. They were good but could have used some chips to go with them. Husband got the pulled pork sandwich with a side of fries. The sandwich was good but the fries were awesome! Super thin, salty and crispy. Loved them. I also liked that they brought our food out when it was ready which meant it was hot but came out at slightly diff times. Our service was excellent. He helped us through the beer menu and made great suggestions. Parking is always a challenge here but we snagged a spot from someone leaving. Great night. read more

**Tip in cash if you want to support workers here** I want to say that the food here was amazing. I enjoyed the ambiance and how spacious the place is. You are able to enjoy 2 different spaces here. One that is located at the top of the stairs that serves as a separate restaurant and at the bottom a large open concept where you are able to host bigger parties of people. We had amazing service here! We got to know our server and he was able to open up about his experience working at Surly. There were some pros and cons that we had no idea about. They are getting paid I believe 22$ an hour ( it might be a different amount can't remember exactly) which is good but all customers are basically paying for this hence 18% charge. That 18% charge is not a tip. It seems wrong to me that as a customer I have to be the one that has to fund this as opposed to Surley the actual business. Moving forward I definitely want to support the workers here as they have fought hard to get higher wages. I will be tipping them in cash and encourage others to do the same if you are able to. I hope that Surly is able to change this and take some responsibility on making this system better for the workers who make this place run. read more

This is such a fun place to be! We were here on a Saturday midday and it was full of people. Open seating outside and hosted seating indoors. We went to the walk up bar outside and the staff were great and helpful with us choosing our drink selections. It was slightly chaotic once we decided to be seated inside with the servers temporarily losing our bill, but we enjoyed our time here nonetheless. The Brussels sprouts were crispy and flavorful and the guacamole was also pretty good. We can't wait to come back and see the live music. read more

Surly has one of my favorite beer halls in the twin cities. The outdoor space is huge with fire pits, tables, games and it's dog friendly! The parking lot is very big and there is additional parking on and across the street, you should definitely be able to find a spot! The pizza upstairs is also some of the best in cities, it is wood fired and there is a separate bar and arcade games. You order and pay from your table and they bring everything out. Service was good. Tables are family style, so you'll have a numbered table, A or B. The BEST brewery I have been too yet! The space is HUGE. There is a huge outdoor space, upstairs for pizza, and downstairs for everything else. If you're looking for a good time with friends, a place for a date, or family night (honestly), this is a great place. They have a variety of food to choose from and a huge selection of beer. Sadly though, they do not have ciders (sorry gluten free folks). I mainly wanted to come here to try their wood fire pizza, and my gosh I am so glad I did! Their pizza is sooo GOOD! I got the 4 minutes late, but the waitress said all the pizzas are pretty popular. Overall, the space, ambiance, food, service, and pricing was great!! Love this place. Been here more than a dozen times and it never disappoints. Typically come for lunch and drinks. We prefer to sit at the bar where service is a bit faster and the seats are more comfy (they have backs on the bar chairs). The food menu changes pretty regularly so each time we are back there are several new items to try. Upstairs there is pizza, and you can bring it downstairs to the beer hall. Great indoor and outdoor seating. Only non-adult beverages are sodas, although they are making a hop water which is a nice option as well. We loved the quest. It was a big serving and super tasty. The gyro had great flavor but the tortilla was a bit too big for the amount of filling and next time I will ask for more sauce as that was super tasty. Service was not that great. I think they were short staffed and our waitress was MIA for most of the time and we also had a miscommunication. We had to track down other waiters to get our food ordered and get our check. I got the Surly burger with the pulled pork and it was dry. There was not enough bbq sauce and it was hard to swallow. I have nothing bad to say about Surly, simply amazing food and beer. I had the 2018 Fernet BA Darkness, which is a Russian Imperial Stout aged in Tattersall Distillery Fernet barrels. If the Fernet flavor is too much for you the regular Russian Imperial Stout is just as delicious. I highly recommend the pork tacos and by all means try a little hot sauce on them, they are to die for. We came just after brunch so we tried the French toast bars as well, super good! This was a cool brewery to visit while in Minneapolis. We stopped by and it was VERY busy. We're in Minneapolis for work and we don't have a car, so we took a Lyft here from our hotel. Good thing we took a Lyft - the parking lot was very full and it would've been impossible to find parking if we had a car. We got a table outside while we waited for a table inside to become available, as we figured that we were not going to stay outside as soon as it got dark, and rather chilly. Their outside area is huge, and I mean HUGE. There is a QR code at every table outside - you scan it from your phone and you can view their beer and food menu from there. For beer, I had the grapefruit supreme, my boss had some sort of stout, and my coworker had the mango supreme. The grapefruit supreme was very good! I think this was one of the best beers I've had so far during my time in Minneapolis. While outside, we were served with a side of hog frites, and these were delicious. Surly has pizza, but it is sold separately in a different room upstairs, which we did not know about until we got to our table inside. But whatever, we already decided on what type of food we were going to have in the main bar. I had the pulled pork tacos, my boss had the burger royale, and my coworker had the surly burger. Yes, the pulled pork tacos were good, but they were really spicy! My boss and coworker both enjoyed their burgers. Don't forget to stop by their gift shop before you leave! Surly is a classic and one of my favorite spots! My family and family friends headed to Surly, and a lot of food and drinks were ordered. Here's the details: Food and Drink: The Trained Dolphin Pizza (4/20 special), The Munchies Pizza (4/20 special), I'm Your Daddy Pizza, Walter White Pizza, Hog Frites, Aki's Breadhaus Pretzel, and Key Lime Supreme. My favorite pizzas among the bunch were the I'm Your Daddy and Walter White. The I'm Your Daddy had the perfect mix of spicy hot peppers and sweetness from the burnt honey which was AMAZING, and the crispy pepperonis were the cherry on top. The Walter White had thinly sliced, well seasoned potatoes laid a top Surly's New Haven style crust. So amazingly delicious that no cheese was needed. As for the drinks, I am a big fan of the Supreme beers- they're so light and refreshing! Service: We received timely and kind service throughout our stay! Our server made sure we had full beers and all the food we needed was ordered. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was having to leave to go upstairs to order pizzas. In the main dining area, the servers will not take orders from the pizza menu. Atmosphere: It was full, bustling, and lively with chatter! Went for dinner on a Wednesday night with a friend who is in town, this place is always packed! They dab your hand at the door after checking your ID, and the order system is all through QR code, including paying through the toast app, which is super convenient. There is a little store you can visit if you want to purchase merch. I had the French onion burger and it was pretty decent, but it does not come with fries, which is a bit of a letdown for the price. I enjoyed the rosé beer that I had as well. read more

I enjoyed the crisp Rosé beer that doesn't taste like beer at all. We got the brisket queso... that I almost didn't catch a photo of because we were eating it so fast. I am reviewing the brewery as well as the pizza restaurant upstairs. This place is impressive and HUGE. Three different levels including a rooftop area plus a fourth level is you consider the main level outdoor patio. Beers are great, I am a fan of barrel aged stouts and the ones they had on tap dis not disappoint. The Darkness aged in Parkers Reserve barrels was amazing. We headed upstairs to try some pizza and it too was very good. Service was great, everyone was helpful and friendly. This is a must hit spot if you are in the area, 5-Star all the way! read more

What an amazing brewery! So glad I was able to meet my remote coworkers here for a happy hour. The tap room is massive! And there is plenty of space for everyone. I really enjoyed the "grilled cheese" sandwich I ordered- it felt and tasted like a delicacy by the ingredients the way it was made. I noticed my coworkers who ordered burgers as well looked like they were also gourmet and delicious! All the plates came with a side of what appeared to be house made pickles, which were also delicious! My favorite part about this experience was that they have a virtual tab system where everyone can order and open their own tab, and the food and drinks are delivered to your table without the need to bother the wait staff! Have always loved Surly for many reasons. Their watch parties, their pizza, their seltzer/beer, their enormous patio space and now, their holiday pop up! I haven't been to the holiday pop up yet...but I can imagine it will not disappoint. My favorite food item is the Impossible Burger/Beyond burger? I forgot which brand, but it's delicious! Huge venue for drinks and food. They have a spacious and airy indoor area and a very nice outdoor area complete with fire pits and lots of space for music/activities. Seems like it would be ideal for something like a company social. They have a number of large brewing vats visible from the inside of the brewery. Tours available, but I arrived too late to do one. Drinks themselves are not cheap and they add on a hefty service fee. Pours generous however. They have a number of brewery specific drinks. We tried a lemongrass saison and a raspberry sour. Both were flavorful, not mind blowing but fun drinks. read more

The "Mall of America" brewery of the Twin Cities, and all the attributes thereof: big, loud, crowded, and sooooo medicore. It's definitely the sort of place to bring the tour bus of rural Iowan visitors to appease what they might perceive as "trendy Minneapolis", and the bland "quirky" food there would likely serve them well. Service is competent but all staff get guaranteed 20% gratuity regardless of party size, or indeed, service level. read more

I've been here multiple times and really like the outdoor area in the summer as they have a lot of spots to sit and is dog and kid friendly. They have firepits as well if it gets a little chillier. I can see why they have so many followers as they do a great job with branding and unique names and flavors. I wish I enjoyed the beers more, but they have their own distinct flavor. The one I did enjoy and got a growler of was Prodigal Sunrise. I also was not a huge fan of the food. We tried the spicy cauliflower and a couple pizzas. It seems like they are trying to go more healthy over the years which is great, but I didn't like many of the options/ingredients on the menu. read more
