Our most recent trip was in Deer Run, because our big kid wanted the loft. The loft is very roomy! My mother was from Elkin, so I like to visit the area. Nice day trips to the parkway, Stone Mountain, Mt. Airy, or even Blowing Rock. Of course, downtown Elkin is nice, too! The staff has always been responsive of any issues during any of our stays. I hear the wine tours are great, but we haven't tried any ourselves.

The recumbent bike works but has a broken pedal strap and does not display workout time or speed. The standing weight machine has only 1 set of grips, no alternative bars, handles, or straps, and the gym has no dumbbells. The treadmill works.

Insights: price for two week stay was competitive and flexible if we needed to add/remove a day, breakfast (hubs like the pastry selections and I was pleased with the coffee which was make as you go from a self-serve machine that grinds the beans and then is a pour over), Holiday Inn member points, corporate owned (this has become important to us as we have had huge issues with independently owned hotels like Best Westerns that corporate refuses to address), location in town is easy to get in and out and central to food, pharmacy, and other stores that we needed such as UPS/Lowes. Facility is newer, clean and smells clean but needs some TLC including carpet/floors, bathroom detail in the room such as floor corners and window wells in the rooms. Bed linens were clean and bed was comfy. Room set-up worked well but we selected a room with more space because of the extended stay. Employees were super friendly and responsive; no problem requesting more towels. We used the laundry room (one washer/one dryer) as we often are tromping around our acreage and need to wash tshirts and such; the machines ran well and did its job. The black out shade worked its magic and the window was large and offered a great view of Mt. Airy. We would definitely stay here again. We definitely will stay here again.

I've never really had any issues before until this trip. I always book a King Bed no smoking room. Checkin is 3pm , I called ahead to say we'd be checking in around 7p. We hit tons of traffic bc of the holidays. When we arrived my reservation was available and a nice man named Irving checked us in. The room he gave us originally seemed ok until I noticed the bed itself didn't look right. First off, when I entered it looked like someone slept in the bed. Then I noticed both corners at the top of the mattress was up and looked slept in. The fitted sheet didn't fit the bed properly. What I think happened was house keeping tried to put a Queen size fitted sheet on a King size mattress which was very surprising. I also noticed there was a bed spread on the bed, but no blanket underneath. At the bottom was a runner that went across the bottom of the bed. It really didn't have a purpose. I wasn't comfortable staying in the original room assigned. I went back to the front desk and asked Irving to change my room and he immediately did to a different floor and a different king size nonsmoking room. The second room looked cleaner and better. My only issues were the toilet ran every time I flushed it, especially if the shower was running. In the shower directly on the center wall,it looked like it had black looking mold on the grout. ( I forgot to take a picture.I did mention this to the front desk.)and the phone in room to call down to the front desk didn't work at all. The bed itself was comfortable, and the room looked ok. We stayed one night. The hotel had pretty holiday decorations. The lobby and surrounding area was neat and clean. In the morning I went to the Breakfast area. It was very clean, neat and organized. There was flat screened TV's and tables for eating. They offered many different breakfast options like eggs, sausage, pancakes, waffles, cereal , yogurt, fruit, juice, coffee, biscuits and gravy and toast. a coffee and tea bar. I think if they can get housing keeping under control, it would be a much better place to stay. They do have a pool, but it was closed so no pictures. There is handicapped accommodations and handicapped parking out front. There is no change for parking. Right next door is a Cracker Barrel Restaurant. Not far from the hotel in Elkin is a Chick-Fil-A Restaurant and other restaurants.

We came with another couple who are regular guests at B&B's all over the USA. They were decisively impressed. We came for the nearby Yadkin Valley wineries but found simply hanging out at A Mighty Oak to be quite pleasant. We sat on rocking chairs on the 2nd floor covered porch as we read or just talked as the stars emerged in the sky. Then we ascended to the 3rd floor for games (ping-pong, board games, TV sports) and reviewed the substantial bookcase. Of course, a huge facet of any B&B is the proprietor. We all recognize a passion for excellence when we experience one. It's there in spades with Todd, showing up in attentiveness to our needs and a pleasant, playful grace about him and his wife Lisa. And we saw his excellence in that 2nd "B" in B&B. We're talking as close to farm-to-table as it gets since the B&B's rear acreage is home to cows, chicken and plants. And, uh FYI, no smell in the air. Match freshness with culinary excellence and you've got an Rx for memorable breakfasts. I mean, I had never had a Scottish Egg and can't wait to see what Todd has up his sleeve next time! The service was less than stellar, we got double charged checking in and there was no one at the desk when we left so we couldn't follow up about that to make sure it was resolved. The breakfast was also a let down, there were very limited options, pretty much carbs only. We didn't stay here for the breakfast but I was hoping to feed the kids before we left and even they weren't impressed with the waffles so we ended up at a drive thru after.

We still had a twenty-minute drive to the lodge when we reached the North gate. The drive was pretty, though, and passed quickly. The circular driveway in front of the lodge was clogged with cars, forcing us to park down the road a bit. No one was around to welcome us, and finding someone took us a bit. Once we did, the valets quickly took care of us, and we were checked in. Our room on the second floor overlooked the 18th green and a valley on the backside of the lodge. It was terrific: large and spacious, with lots of wood and chunky lodge-style furnishings. The bathroom was huge, with a large tub, separate shower, and his-and-hers sinks. The minibar came stocked with complimentary non-alcoholic drinks and some snacks. While staying here, we enjoyed their astronomy presentation at the top of the silo, walking on several trails through the nearby woods, time in the spa, and making smores out back by the fire pit in the evening with the other guests. There was a special cocktail hour with apps and drinks, and a chance to talk to some of the local providers of food and items to the hotel. They do an excellent job of using local sources for the lodge. Dining was top notch, except at the Stables family-style restaurant. The Stables was a disappointment. Our other meals though in the lodge were top notch. The staff at Primland is the best, and they are what make this place so special. Come visit in the summer and enjoy the cooler temperatures of the mountains.
