They are located right next to the Interstate and very easy to access with a larger RV. As well, the proximity to the highway meant that my mobile coverage was outstanding. This is a large campground with several dozen pads. I was at one facing a small fishing pond and while I had neighbors on both sides, it was still very quiet. The pad was level and the hookup - 30/50 amp, water, dump - all worked perfectly well for me. The pad area is crushed stone and grass, so it was nice to not be concerned about tracking dirt back into the RV. The bathhouse was clean and comfortable. I felt secure using it. Beautiful lake, nice boat ramp and a small beach area. Bath houses are old need to be upgraded but had good hot water. Most of the camping sites are permanent sites. Only ten sites that rent. Any site you that you may rent are all great. Graveled full hook ups and picnic table. A nice tree at every site so you do have some shade. Not far to bathhouses. Will be going back there for a weekend.

The park is pretty remote, with only occasional cell service (a good thing or a bad thing depending…read moreon one's needs). The parking really close to the mountain is handicap only, so the intention is for most people to walk a 4.5 mile loop that goes around the mountain and then up it on the way back. It is a substantial climb, both down into a gully with an impressive waterfall and up the mountain itself. The rock does offer wide-spanning views. The infrastructure was not in ideal shape at the time of my visit, with some water fountains down and other limitations in amenities. I also found the trail setup a bit confusing as following marks led me once to a dead end and in another case, I had to hike on a gravel road a bit to get back to the trail and that wasn't marked clearly as the right way to go. While these things could be improved, the park is an excellent resource and as is standard practice in NC (but not in SC or VA), is free to enter.

Average price is only $45 a night and certainly well worth it. It is located about 5 miles from Elkin and right in the middle of winery country. There are some nice playgrounds for the kids, not big but they get the job done. The pool is small, but nice for kids to play and hang out. There are no fire pits at the spaces so that was a little disappointing. The spaces are very small, but paved. Lots of roots and trees around, so there is not much even ground even for sitting at the picnic tables. Definitely a more family friendly feel, and with the space is being so close. It's not a very relaxing campground with peace and quiet if that's what you're looking for. It wasn't overly loud or people partying it up or anything, but just not a private campground if that's what you're looking for. For $40 a night, I would say that it is well worth the money and our kids had a great time!

We saw kids enjoying the pools and many people grilling. This site is right by the Blue Ridge Parkway and we had nice cruises along the Parkway. Most of the camping sites we found on the parkway had no hookups , which is ok if you are tent camping but not for those of us towing a camper. Mid-June we were wearing sweatshirts in the mornings and evenings while walking our dogs. Great cool mountain breezes . No air conditioning required . A very peaceful stay.

The site was level. We did have to use a longer hose for water connection. There are a number of "permanent" residents and some of their sites could have been better maintained. There is an area behind the park for tent camping that has a pretty creek with some picnic and play areas. Some mention highway noise but it didn't bother us. We camped at Pioneer Village Campground in a Fifth Wheel. There is nothing to do in Max Meadows but we weren't looking for that. Wytheville is a short drive and has everything you could need. The Log Cabin 1776 restaurant is a must as well as Skeeters if you like hot dogs. We made a trip to Bristol and really enjoyed hanging out for the day.
