I have been coming here for basic sewing needs like hem trimmings and some minor repairs for my handbag. Zipper attachment of the sun awning of my boyfriend's motorboat ripped because of storm. Nina did a good job with my wedding dress alteration. It was a tad big so she did the following: -hemmed the bottom -shortened the v-neck -took in parts of the billowing poet sleeves -took in the bodice area -took in the shoulders -added a small v-neck to the back of the dress I felt that the stitching for the front v-neck was a little loose and the back v-neck wasn't quite even. But all of this was $180, which I thought was very fair. I didn't love my wedding dress at first but Nina's alterations changed how I felt about it. Quick update to my previous review completing the transaction: we received the finished altered product for bridal gown and veil; rehearsal dress and for my wife: bolero and reception gown. Cash is preferred and because a lot of the work is custom, the price is negotiable but very fair. Was recommended by someone who went to Nina to have her crew-neck t-shirt altered into a lovely feminine V-neckline. I showed Nina the photo of the t-shirt neckline she altered and said "this is exactly what I'd like, please." I return on the agreed day (Saturday). Not ready. "Come back Monday," she says. I return Monday. "I told you Tuesday," she says (she didn't, but whatever). I return on Tuesday. Although I showed her the photo of exactly what I wanted (V-neck), what I got was very wide, unflattering scoop neck. So disappointed. I was annoyed but not "over-the-top" annoyed until she said "you can buy another T-shirt." No, Ma'am. Wrong answer. I got my bridesmaid dress altered here. I had the shoulders shorter to bring it up, the dress shortened, and a small modesty panel put in at the chest area. This cost $90. I have never had anything altered before so not sure if that's a good price for what was done but they did a good job. Where it's located I believe there is only street parking. Luckily each time I went there was someone leaving from the street so I was able to park. Not sure if this person is always there or this is a common occurrence but when I went to pick up my dress there was a homeless man sleeping right in from of the door. Nina altered 3 dresses for me in 1.5 months: my ballgown wedding dress, rehearsal dinner cultural dress, and short reception dress out of another wedding dress. Plus a beautiful long satin bow from waist to floor. I went in without an appointment (which by the way, works just fine here and they are happy to meet you even when you walk in) nervous bc of a rough experience with another tailor in LB. I was worried that there wasn't enough time for these alterations, but Nina quickly and calmly smiled, telling me that she will take care of me and she's glad that I came. I think she saw my fear and her maternal heart wanted to comfort a little bit. You don't see that often in a professional setting. This is one of those local businesses you want to support for the rest of your life. I truly mean it. Nina took what I thought was going to be a stressful journey and not only beautifully and nearly perfectly altered the dresses, but made everything so lighthearted and joyful. Susan's Dressmaker was one of the worst experiences I've ever had... I dropped off 5 items that needed minor alterations. I was told they would be ready in a week 2 1/2 weeks later I checked in to see if there was an update... After what felt like pulling teeth trying to get any info out of them I finally got a response on a Friday. They sent me images to confirm which garments were mine (shocker they didn't know which ones were mine and had misplaced them) they told me they would find them and have them ready the following Monday When I went in to pick them up I was charged full price. I politely asked if I could have a discount because of the delay (3 weeks delivery instead of the promised 1 week delivery) they agreed to take $5 off.... But when I was rung up they charged me full price! When I called them on it they played dumb as if it was a mistake.... All around horrible service. Very very poor communication. They are too busy and are very disorganized If you have all the patience in the world and don't need your garments for at least a month then use at your own risk! I struggle writing this review b/c I have been a repeat customer here but wanted to leave this just in case for the future. My partner and I left my wedding dress and his suit jacket to be altered. Nina did a great job on my wedding dress (although communication was rough and she was hard to reach). On the suit jacket however when we would come in she said that she misplaced the jacket, didn't start on the jacket, or didn't bring the jacket. We had at least 3-4 extra trips regarding this suit jacket. In addition, she cut off way too much on the back and told my partner not to button up his suit jacket as a solution. We ended up having to buy another wedding suit for him entirely. Overall we were out over $300 after using Nina and after she ruined his suit jacket. Also, the scheduling was a mess. If we didn't leave close to her shop - I think we would have rather just given up and left the jacket there. I wish she would have said she can't do men's suits instead of suggesting we make further alterations (we initially just went in for a cuff alteration). If you are looking for a place for an important event, please do not go here. We wasted so much time and energy and were out so much money after this experience. It really soured our wedding planning experience and made everything so much more stressful than it needed to be. read more

Although she doesn't have things ready when she says it will be 100% of the time, when you tell her that you MUST have something by a certain date, it is ready! I guess they don't want me to come back. I was recommended by a friend to come here for all my alternations. I was really excited to try them, since I'm 5'3" and always need pants taken up. I dropped off a midi dress to be taken up on Thursday. She asked when i needed it, and i said Tuesday. Tells me to leave my name and number, says she'll call me when it's ready, gives me no price estimate, and no receipt for my dress. Tuesday is here. They close at 6, and i haven't heard from her, so I stop in at 520. It's not even started. She asks me to come back at 630. I arrive at 630. It's ready, and it's $30 to hem a $50 dress. I know I should have asked in advance, but now i just feel ripped off. The dress is 2 layers--a thin simple lining that needs cut off and stitched, and the actual dress, which just needs cut off due to how it's made--no sewing required. I guess they don't want my business--she clearly charged me what she thought i could pay. This is not $30 of work, and took her about 10 min. Such a bummer--i really wanted to have all my future tailoring done here. Now i just feel taken advantage of. A few other reviews have mentioned the "sliding price scale" that I've now fallen victim to. On to the next tailor! read more

Came in to get a dress taken in (not a wedding dress, just a regular going out dress) When asked how much this would cost nobody there could quote me a price? Really? You have 2 ladies working here on a Saturday and I'm just getting a dress taken in and nobody can even give me a ballpark price, what about a range? No? You've got to be kidding me! Also while I was there a older gentleman came in to pick up some pants, he then asked how much he owed and both women had no idea what price to charge him. They told him to go try on his pants and while he was in the dressing room ... they were whispering and trying to decide $20 or $25 based on how "rich he looked" (Their words not mine) Super unprofessional. I've been coming here for a little over a year and I even though I moved out of Long Beach... fighting traffic/driving out of my way to get my clothes tailored by Nina & her team is worth it. Customer service is off the charts & Nina has excellent memory! I recently got a blazer & 2 dress pants tailored and I couldn't pick it up for 2 months (due to a hectic work schedule). During those 2 months I also lost a considerable amount of weight, so when I went back the clothes that Nina had tailored unfortunately needed to be tailored again. And it was completely my fault, but she was so understanding and made the adjustments accordingly.. They fit perfect & I can't wait to wear it! I'm never disappointed when I get my clothes back. Yelp has done it again! Thanks to a horrible, horrible experience at David's Bridal (see my review on David's Bridal, Long Beach) I turned to yelp to help me find a good seamstress for my wedding dress alterations - which helped me discover Nina and this place. I was a little nervous at first because this place does look a little homely, and my dress is not a simple dress that I could take to any basic seamstress, either. Several people who saw my dress told me that I MUST bring it to a tailor that specializes in formal gowns. It is multi layered, A-line gown with pleats in the waistline AND fine lace and beading all over the place. BUT, i trusted the reviews of my fellow yelpers and took a leap of faith on this place. I could not have been more satisfied with my dress! She was able to bring in the dress in all the right place so it fit like a glove. you couldn't even tell it had been altered! Davids Bridal quoted me $240 for my alterations ($180 for the dress and $35 for the bustle and tax). Nina was able to get it all done for a hundred bucks less out the door - AND she got it done in HALF the time David's Bridal had quoted me. On top of that, my dress was just a touch too long. It would have cost an additional $125 to hem the bottom of the dress because it was bordered with beaded lace. She told me to maybe try shoes that were an inch higher - it would save me some money. That solution worked - AND i got a new pair of shoes. I would have come up with that idea on my own anyway but the fact that she suggested it, causing her lose some business shows that she's not there to rip you off but do whats best for you and your clothes. I had a second dress for my wedding that I needed altered which she took care of in less than a week. When i went to pick it up, i realized that I i just really didn't like the dress (not nina's fault) so nina MADE me a dress from scratch!! I wanted a traditional Chinese dress, called a "Qi Pao" or "Cheong Sam" and turns out, that is Nina's specialty. All i needed to do was bring her the fabric and she got it done in less than two weeks -- and she charged me under 200 bucks! amazing! I would highly recommend her to anyone. read more

So I purchased my wedding dress from David's Bridal and then found that I was pregnant! The dress no longer fit well, so after the baby and some weight loss I took the dress to Nina. She was to replace the zipper with corset and remove the small embellishment on the front if the dress and that's it. She did an AMAZING JOB!! It was absolutely perfect!! I picked up the dress with about 1 month until the wedding. The price was so low and shocking I had to top her well for the great job. I thing decided about 2 weeks before my wedding day that I wanted to add a bigger piece to my dress and without hesitation Nina took the job on! My dress was ready in DAYS!! NEVER AGAIN!!!! Read it. I seriously created an account on yelp just to warn everyone. Hopefully your clothes aren't ruined. I found her through yelp and based on the reviews I gave her a try. I tried her once before and work was done late, but it was good, i just needed an elastic to be replaced on the sleeves of a blouse. A month later, I brought 3 dresses and the same blouse to her to get fixed. One of the dresses was a silver dress that I bought in Paris a few weeks back, It was a bit torn at the seems and I asked her to repair it!! THAT WAS IT!!! Repair, repair, repair. If she couldn't she should've told me. Instead I go pick up the dress a month later (she told me she would call me BUT never did) and when she gave me my dress it was DIFFERENT from the outside. My 95 euro silver dress now had little bits of lace all around where she was only supposed to repair and reinforce from the inside. By the way the fabric on my dress has a pattern so with this "new" addition it totally clashes. My dress is ruined!!! I didn't say not one word to Susan, I felt my eyes filling up with tears and a huge knot on my throat. I just left. It was best that I did that. I only wore my dress once!!! Don't go to her unless you want your precious clothing modified. She not only messed up my silver dress, but she also made a mistake on my blue dress. I only needed her to fix a small rip it had, instead she replaced the zipper. I never asked her to replace the zipper, AND to top it off it was poorly made. Its bulky and the fabric sticks out, it is crooked and JUST horrible. I am not exaggerating, I've put pictures of her horrible work. She ALSO messed up my silk blouse that she was only supposed to replace the fabric on the sleeves. I've been to other tailors before n they either repair your clothes to look brand new again and if they can't they will ask you before making any changes to it. Instead she put this flower pattern on my blouse where it had a chiffon type of material originally. This I can fix, will take it to another tailor n no big deal. But my silver dress!! I am so heart broken. Beware. Seriously I am not kidding!! I am wearing the dress on my profile pic (before it was ruined). And my blue dress?? now I will have to get the zipper fixed, this is soooo stressful. I also bought this blue dress in Europe :( read more

I Have worked relied upon Nina's work for many years I never could've imagined that Nina and the people that work at this location could not only do a perfect job if you look at the stitching it looks like it is done by a machine meaning it is beautiful. Where as many people have work done for wedding gowns or suit fittings, I have brought Nina draperies that have grommets. She was able to adjust the size of the draperies bought from Amazon and added sections so they looked seamless. I can't say enough of; how beautiful the work is, how very good priced it is and how quickly she gets the work done I've lived in different parts of California I'm gonna tell you there is no one better in the State of California then Nina and the people that work with Nina.
