Took a dress in on a Tuesday, called ahead of time to ask if it could be done for an event that Saturday. Needed to be taken in an inch or so. I was told it would be ready that Saturday 9am. I showed up Saturday 11 am and the item hasn't even been started yet. She was frantic and said she could do it in an hour. I returned after two hours and it wasn't done. Left again and came back 30 min later. Item was done and when I went to pay I expected some apology for forgetting my item but there was zero acknowledgment. In fact, she wrote a new date on the ticket I had returned. I couldn't believe it. Take a photo of your return ticket before handing it back. Dishonest place. read more

This place is extremely sketchy. I would NOT recommend going alone! The owner was super rude and barely looked at me when I walked in. It's in a warehouse that's run down and gated. Including windows around the whole building. It looks like a sweat shop inside with a curtain hanging on a string to "try on clothes. My red flag senses went up right away! I had to ring a doorbell to walk inside! The door opened on its own. As I slowly walked in. The owner was facing the wall asked what I wanted. Are you kidding me. Celia is a very sweet older lady. I found her through Google and yelp helped me decide to give her a chance from all the reviews. I'm going to Coachella and finally found thee outfit only thing it was a mile too long in length. I didn't only take her that but two other pieces that needed alterations. I prayed she could have the one pants ready by Thursday and she said okay, even though I felt she had other orders in front of me. I told her if she couldn't it's okay I would see if I could find someone else and she said no no I'll do it. Today is Tuesday and I'm super appreciative that she is helping me out. I'm planning on thanking her once I pick up my pants with flowers or something nice like that. On top of paying the fee. I just really appreciate when people got out of their way for me. Gracias Celia. The outside doesn't do it justice. It looks Tun down but it's not. In my opinion it's art. Inside was clean, organized and didn't smell at all. Fitting room, clean, large enough to change comfortable and had two chairs and a mirror. Curtains thick and gave you privacy. I will update once I pick up my clothes and rate her work, but for now I'm only rating it on my experience of dropping off the clothes and the building. Update: Celia came through for me! I was in need of a tailor since i had bought some carhartt overalls that fit me kinda long on the legs celia tailored my overalls for a custom fit. She also patched my favorite jeans up since they had a big hole on the back. I messaged other tailors on yelp and was quoted prices that ranged from $110 to $200 went to celia and ended up paying a 1/4 of $200 dollars for the 2 jeans and overalls that needed small alterations. If you have any common sense do yourself a favor and go with her she knows what she is doing. read more

I brought a pair of Levi's for some alteration. I guess it was a somewhat difficult or complex request, as other tailors told me they couldn't do it. But I was determined to find someone who would try. I wanted to lower the rise on the jeans. Brought them in and was greeted by friendly staff. They listened to what I wanted, explained things that I may not have been aware of, and said they could do the job. I picked up my jeans not even a week later and they fit absolutely perfectly! They're now my favorite pair. I will be bringing more jeans to be altered (and will make them my go-to spot for any tailoring I need in the future). I've never hemmed a single thing in all my life. If a clothing item is too long, I either deal with it by wearing higher heels or I let it slightly drag. If my weight fluctuates and my clothes become too loose or too tight, I just buy another item and wait for my size to fluctuate. As a result, I can only wear about a third of the items in my closet at any given time. Luckily, I live alone, and all the closets in my house are mine and mine alone. :) This year, due to the aforementioned problem, I had to buy a prom dress. No, I'm not the oldest high school student ever, nor am I an undercover cop like in 21 Jump Street (though I wish I were and Channing Tatum was my partner...). I needed a dress to chaperone the evening, and I didn't want to be totally outdone by my beautiful girls. My dress was purchased at a bridal shop (I got it on clearance for $25! Score!!!), and it was dreadfully long. There was no way I could let it drag, because I'd find myself tripping and ruining someone's evening (along with my own). Oh, and I'd be the laughingstock of the senior class with embarrassing photos popping up on Instagram and Snapchat. Additionally, I don't own a pair of 10-inch heels, so that wasn't going to be a solution. I decided to suck it up and get my dressed hemmed, but since I've never done something like this, I didn't know where to go. Thanks to my handy dandy Yelp app, I found Cecil and Reed. The place looks perpetually closed, and there's an older woman inside the gated area who does alterations. While I was there, someone else came in for some work, so she keeps herself rather busy. I was shown to a curtained area to try on my dress, but a few boxes had to be moved first, since they were stored in the way. The measuring was straightforward and quick. I told her that I needed it by the next weekend, and she said I could get it by Friday. In the end, the dress was hemmed nicely and I was able to walk the prom (and even dance a little) without killing myself or anyone else. My only qualm is that 1) it was $40 for the tailoring (albeit, I have NO IDEA how much this regularly costs. I just thought it was sad that the hemming was more expensive than my dress), and 2) I actually wish the dress had been a little longer. I think a "gown" of this type should reach all the way down to the floor and maybe drag a "bit." This isn't her fault, however, since she cleared the length with me. I asked her for her opinion, and that's what we decided was the best at the time. In any case, now that I've opened Pandora's Box, I'll most likely return to alter more of my "unwearables" at home. read more

A friend recommended this place to do some repairs and hem work on a vintage military pant and woven shirt that I needed to be shortened. Met the seamstress/ production lady and all she could tell me was how hard it was to do any of my requests. What she didn't know that I am apparel designer 20+ years and also a partner in a domestic apparel factory in DTLA. So I could see the machines they had and what they could do. Looked like leather work for outerwear, woven bottoms possibly. Then after reviewing the 2 styles. She said my pants and shirts was Basura aka trash in Spanish LOL. She obviously didn't understand the quality of the garment and was bias from the get go. Then she told me it would be too expensive to fix and I told her I was willing to pay regardless. Then after we went over the timeline she said it would take almost 2 weeks to finish a hem and hole repair. I was blown away. I would have easily paid 50-60$ to get these done. I would have been nice to think of solution and I would definitely be one of their top customers. May be even give them a production run. read more

They are in a very tricky spot but it's worth of finding them! So if you are turning left to California Ave from Willow they are on a very first tiny driveway on your right. It looks like warehouse so don't be confused. So I just called on Saturday bcs I need my shirts to be done by Sunday that way I can go to work on Monday and appeared to be that find tailor on weekends not that easy. Those ladies are open till 5 on Saturday so I just swing by to drop off my shirt and see what they can do. Surprisingly, lady who did alteration, told me to come back in less than an hour! She is incredibly knowledgeable what she is doing! Since I don't know Spanish at all her daughter helped us to find common language. :) My shirt was ready in less than 90 min total! By far, my new tailor of choice! I had to get a bridesmaid dress altered (http://bit.ly/i6zPal) and Jesus at Cecil and Reed did a great job! I was told by another tailor that to get the length and strap shortened, it would cost $60. That other tailor said that the sheer fabric on the dress would be difficult to alter, but when I brought my dress in to Cecil and Reed, Jesus looked at it and said, "No problem! I can do it!" And not only that he said he'd do it for the cost of $25. When I picked up my dress, I re-tried the dress at home, and realized the strap was tailored too short. So I took it back, and again Jesus said, "No problem! I can do it!". And he did! Seriously, he knows what he's doing, and I love it! And maybe that's another thing I enjoyed so much about my experience: the people that work there. They were so friendly and accommodating. The original dress had a unique hem so it wasn't straightforward and the final hem was perfect. Will be taking clothes to her for the future for sure.
