None the less, this was still the worst hair salon experience of my life. I originally went here because the salons in my posh area didn't know how to and didn't want to deal with my natural hair or with it straightened, so I went in with the hope that I'd find a place where I'd feel comfortable and I wanted to go to a black salon because I felt I'd be welcome and accepted. I'm Mexican and Dominican. Upon getting in the chair my stylist asked how I'd found this place and I mentioned google and was really excited to tell her this was my first time in a black salon. You see growing up being biracial in California their are NO DOMINICANS so I was always a pariah. Even my own mom didn't know what to do with my hair. Every time I went to salons in California near me, these salons I would be charged extra and made feel like my hair was a burden because it wasn't nice and straight. She then made me feel like I'd called the salon a racial slur by saying "black salon" I didn't know that was a racial slur and if did offend anyone I am genuinely sorry, that however does not mean you can blatantly laugh at my face and insinuate I'm an idiot, I'm a computer science major for Christ sakes. She then pulls other stylists in asking them to listen how stupid I sound, so now the whole salon is making fun of me. I wanted to cry I was so humiliated. I went to this salon to find a sisterhood and place who'd finally make me feel comfortable, what I got was rolled eyes and laughed at.

I first heard about this salon from yelp + some googling...and its right around the corner so i…read morefigured hey why not give it a try! i first went to cut my hair off....yes go short....i dunno why when women go through things its connected to my hair....well I do, but i needed a big chop...so i saw Simone....i felt comfortable as soon as I walked in...greeted with smiles and a warm welcome is a big thing for me... i showed her a picture and that was all i needed to do...she went to work.... i came back and Simone suggested to cut a lil shorter...and loved it again.... a couple weeks later i got my sister in her chair for a full head weave for her birthday....and she then brought her daughter for the same... After seeing my sister & nieces weave....i missed mine and came back for one as well for my birthday....lol... I decided to try a closure to give my hair a much needed rest and i LOVED it.... im sold and probably will go nowhere else as long as queen of the wink is around the corner lol.... P.S. I have been to some salons where I just cant stand the chat between the stylists...either its in another language or its shouting over your head and just flat out rude....here you feel at home and i often find myself in conversation with the girls that leaves me in tears from laughter.... Simone is an AMAZING stylist but they all are I've sat in the chair and watched Summer and Sparkle do gorgeous weaves and natural hairstyles Tanazsha is a sweetheart who can also do a great cut and her weaving skills are great! I came today on Christmas Eve without an appointment hoping to have a wash and blow for the…read moreholidays. I was in luck and was seated straight away at the basin for my wash. The stylist working on me was Yisette and she was very sweet, checking if I was okay with the shampoo pressure. I like a good thorough wash when I have my hair blown out so I was happy with the pressure. She told me her English wasn't great and my Spanish could be better, but she definitely made sure at all times I was happy. I was so happy with the blow out. S was very gentle. At many Dominican salons it is common for your hair to be pulled quite roughly with the heat turned all the way up, but she was gentle and also not excessive with the heat. Only at the front and top of my hair was the heat a little more but also that is where my hair tends to be more stubborn to smooth so that was perfect. She finished off with the iron and I think it was the owner who came to check her work to make sure it was perfect. I'm very pleased with the service at Yulaine and it's also a very nice salon inside.

Carmen is so sweet and did a wonderful job with my hair! I haven't gotten a hair cut in two years…read more(never had the time) so I went to here to get a total cut and color. The folks here knew what they were doing to keep my hair healthy and glowing. My hair is so soft after my first visit with them I cannot keep my hands off of it! With going two years without a haircut I was afraid that Carmen would have to take a lot off to get rid of the dead ends, but she kept the length beautifully and gave me some layers to lighten my hair! I love the way it looks, and how healthy my hair is. I will definitely be coming back!

Nancy was kind and took her time with her hair. My mother is extremely hard to please and loved her hair! She cut the all the damaged her out, did a excellent job washing her hair out (twice) and moisturized it beautifully. My mom loved the style. She also instructed us on hair care which my mom needed. However, she is not a good natural hair stylist. My hair was in bad shape when I went to Nancy. I had big chopped (something I do about every 3-4yrs) in September and was post partum. My hair was extremely dry and as I returned to work, I was looking for a treatment to moisturize my hair and knotless braids for protective styling. My appointment went very well. We talked, laughed and I felt she was truly taking care of my hair. She boasted about how she wasn't just a stylist but someone who understands and takes care of hair with growing hands. After a good wash, protein and steam treatments; Nancy shaved down the back of my head and began to braid my remainder of my hair. I had requested knotless braids which are more gentle on the hair, but she braided them with knots. Not a problem, I didn't complain and I trusted her as she claimed to be a natural hair expert. The cost was a lot ($250 and I tipped $30), especially for the length and amount of braids, but again I was looking for a long-term hair home and don't mind spending money when needed. I walked out and enjoyed the way my hair looked. Fast forward 4 days, I wake up and take off my bonnet. I see my entire front hairline is beginning to flake up and hair is being pulled out from the root. I know the knots in the braids is what is pulling out the hair from the roots but I wasn't sure about the flaking as I've never experienced this before. I was told by a friend of mine, who is an actual natural hair expert but is in Atlanta, that it is most likely poor processing of the protein treatment that is causing the flaking. It has now been 2 weeks and I have to take the braids out. I have lost so much hair in the front of my head and actually have a small BALD SPOT. The hair is being pulled out by the roots and my scalp underneath is flaking off. I had a very thick and full hairline, now it looks a mess. I don't know if the hair will easily grow back or if I now have traction alopecia and will need to put a lot of work into restoring my hairline. $280 for a two week hairstyle and to top it off I lost a ton of hair. Again, Nancy is a sweet lady, but she truly messed my hair up. The treatment left my scalp drier and flaking and the braids pulled my hair out. I can't recommend her services.

The amount it time it took for my hair to be completed was roughly 2.5 hours which was great! Only downside is, it felt like some parts of the process were a bit rushed. Hair wash was just okay, didn't feel like a deep/thorough scrub like I'm used to when getting a wash. There also felt like no real detangling was done, not even by hand. Trim was done very quickly and honestly just not pleased with the outcome as I still have fairy knots and split ends. I got mini twists for my style and this is where most of my rating is coming from. Deitra can twist hair very fast which is great, but one thing I noticed is that she doesn't twist down to the very end of the hair, leaving it untwisted and unfinished. After a day or so, it ends up just looking frizzy and undefined for my hair type. In addition, since my hair wasn't properly detangled, there were small clumps/knots of hair caught at the bottom of the twists that I had to snip out. I ended up having to redo my hair after a day and honestly felt like I wasted some money after this experience. Kinda of disappointing since my partner had a way better experience compared to mine despite us purchasing the same treatment and style. I also found it kind of odd that I wasn't asked much about my hair and/or my goals for it, as that's just been my experience with past natural hair stylist, but I understand everyone is different.
