Deitra was very nice but the outcome of my hair was just okay. I was referred to this salon through my partner and thought it would be a perfect time saver for my upcoming week. The amount it time it took for my hair to be completed was roughly 2.5 hours which was great! Only downside is, it felt like some parts of the process were a bit rushed. Hair wash was just okay, didn't feel like a deep/thorough scrub like I'm used to when getting a wash. There also felt like no real detangling was done, not even by hand. Trim was done very quickly and honestly just not pleased with the outcome as I still have fairy knots and split ends. I got mini twists for my style and this is where most of my rating is coming from. Deitra can twist hair very fast which is great, but one thing I noticed is that she doesn't twist down to the very end of the hair, leaving it untwisted and unfinished. After a day or so, it ends up just looking frizzy and undefined for my hair type. In addition, since my hair wasn't properly detangled, there were small clumps/knots of hair caught at the bottom of the twists that I had to snip out. I ended up having to redo my hair after a day and honestly felt like I wasted some money after this experience. Kinda of disappointing since my partner had a way better experience compared to mine despite us purchasing the same treatment and style. I also found it kind of odd that I wasn't asked much about my hair and/or my goals for it, as that's just been my experience with past natural hair stylist, but I understand everyone is different. read more

I had an exceptional experience here on 3/10/2021 with hair stylist Solomon. My appointment consisted of a Steam treatment, Trim, and Silk Wrap. The best part of my experience was Solomon talking me through each step of the process of doing my hair. I learned a lot throughout my appointment in terms of what products to use and hair techniques for maintenance. Solomon is very professional and attentive. As far as COVID guidelines are concerned they were met. Both Solomon and I had a mask own during the appointment and we were the only ones in the salon at the time. Update 2017: 3 yrs later still go ever once in a while. My hair is completely natural now and it's part to this salon. The stylists and owner were very supportive and offered great advice. I experimented with color. First, I got half a head in honey blonde, loved it. The owner did my color and it was nice. I let it grow out and decided to get the same color for my whole head and there must've been some miscommunication because the stylist gave me red. Needless to say I was angry and I chose not to color it again in fear of damaging my hair. They handled the situation professionally as it could've gotten ugly. The red grew on me and as it got dull I liked it more. They are very nice and friendly. You have to know exactly what you want and be clear about it. Still a bit pricey but I'll continue to support a black hair salon in a gentrifying neighborhood. Original 2014: I found this salon on yelp and since it's in my neighborhood I decided to check it out. The website is easy to use and I received a confirmation call from the owner soon after booking. My first visit was around February 28, 2014. I got a wash with an uptown curl. My stylist was Soloman. I never had a man do my hair so I was a bit uneasy but the whole situation was new so I just went with it. My appt was at noon and I arrived on time and was seated upon my arrival. Soloman was very gentle and kind with my transitioning hair. He talked to me and answered all of my questions. I had a great experience. The salon is intimate, not a private apartment as I was expecting due to previous reviews. It's a store front with three hair stations and two sinks. They play nice soothing music, not too loud which allows for friendly conversation. They remember their reoccurring customers by names and are all very polite. This comforts me as I'm looking for a "hair salon home," someplace where everyone knows my name. Lol. On May 24, 2014 I went in for the express baby doll twists, my third visit. Once again it was with Soloman and my experience was, once again great. Everyone loves my hair, while I'm still getting used to it but it truly is a clever way to put twists in. No more sitting all day for extensions. As far as I can tell all the stylist are very good but Soloman is my go to guy. Everyone is nice and very accommodating. I went back for Steam Hydration Hair Care trim Package. I was in dire need of some tlc because I had just went through a terrible and tight experience at an African braiding salon (do not get your hair washed or detangled at an African shop because they just don't care). The price was $130 which isn't bad for a shampoo, steam, trim, set style (I chose flat twist) and a customized conditioning treatment. My service was done by Kerlisha. Everything seemed fine while there. The trim was done on wet hair so the shrink back was real. I wasn't concerned because I had such a great visit with Jasmine. The products smelled great and my hair felt soft. So far, so good. The stylist was in such a rush that I had to stop her to tip her. The thanks was dry enough that I instantly regret doing so. When I arrived on time for my service I patiently waited about 30-45 minutes. The time was a little before 6:30 when she finished with me. (The time stamp on my photo was 6:34 and was taken at Punchline down the road). I didn't realize how uneven my trim was until I did my own braidouts. Let me just say that I went back to natural in 2010, decided to grow my hair January 2012 and had only done 2 salon visits prior to this one in October 2016. So, I know how to care my hair. I just never liked trimming my own. The real issue came when I decided to teach my curly co-workers about a porosity test after one of them having a soul glow moment. I had the biggest split end ever! *I tried booking Jasmine again, reaching out to Bohemian Soul via social media and e-mail. They never responded to me, even as a courtesy to let me know that she no longer worked with them. In closing, that was my second and last visit. I don't leave reviews much and the ironic thing about this post is that during our session conversation. She definitely encourage me to leave reviews when the service was not up to par. I'm new to the New York area, and I was looking for natural hair salon to help me with my hair, so I just took a chance. My advice if you've never been there before, and you have not experienced her work, I wouldn't go. It seems clear that she is not invested in making sure you look presentable. I paid $170 for mini twists that just cannot be worn on a daily basis because they do not look good. I honestly just felt like with her having so much experience. Demtra would've recommended a better style then that. And styled it a little better, even people who don't know much about hair was able to look at my hair and see a lack of effort. And that there could have been a better style for me. We go to hairstyles because we think they are able to help us . I was just so shocked that she let me leave with that hairstyle. I went to Bohemian Soul for the first time today. First of all, thank you to the Yelp community cause I partially went because of the great reviews. The other reason I went is because their system from the onset seems very professional and organized. You book your appointment online for the service and can choose a stylist. I called ahead and asked some questions, and the lady who answered advised who I should choose, or I"m sure you can just pick one. So I walk in this morning - one of the first of the day. Salon is clean and pleasant, well-decorated, but it's definitely cozy and intimate so really when they say don't bring guests, they mean it. My lady is on time. (You know you've been #jaded when you don't expect hair appointments to start on time.) I got a consultation as well (which is subtracted from the overall cost if you go ahead and get it done. Anyway, I have natural, 4C hair so it's really important to me that the person I'm with knows how to work with my hair and also respects it. (I've been in way too many salons where my hair is met with complaints.) Rassaidatou was my lady and she is wonderful. She consulted on my hair, treated it with care, and made me feel like I was well taken care of. My hair was washed, trimmed, received a treatment, and for the first time ever, I got the Signature Crochet Cocoa braids style. All under three hours. Without the wash and trim and oil treatment, it would have probably been two. Will be back. Making this my permanent place and telling all my friends because our hair dreams might have finally been realized. I know the cost seems up there but when you think about the service and care and final product, it's totally worth it. Also bought some products I'm excited to use. This would be a 5 star review if it weren't for the receptionist. This was my first natural hair endeavor since growing out my hightop fade (used to go to a barber shop). I had a great consultation with Iscia - she's super nice, knowledgable and her hair (4C like mine) looked really cute, which put me at ease, LOL. After the consultation, I made an appointment for a trim, wash and deep condition treatment (totally affordable at $65) and made a deposit. Two weeks later, I showed up for my 10am appointment right as the salon opened and it turns out that the receptionist (who had been the one to make my appointment) hadn't informed Iscia that she had any appointments for the day, although she was booked solid. Thankfully I had the time to wait, and live close by, so I went home and asked the receptionist to call me when Iscia was 10 minutes away from arriving. Not only did she not call me until after Iscia had arrived, but she had the wrong name for me AND had me down for the wrong services. During my service, she left the salon to have Iscia answering the phones (Iscia was also working with another client simultaneously to make up for the backed up schedule). At the end of my service, the receptionist tried to charge me for services I didn't receive, and I had to remind her of my deposit. Overall she was rude, disruptive, and disorganized. A *lot* of my hair was cut during my trim. I'm only realizing now that I've taken out and worn my braid out and am now braiding my hair before I go to sleep. So much of my hair is gone. I also liked my hairstyle which was the blowout extension. But Something was off with the receptionist but since I want to keep this as a 5 star comment I will leave it alone but look back at other yelpers reviews about the receptionist. I got express Senegalese twists here four days ago and can say I was pleased by their service. I appreciate the convenience of being able to book online and receive text & email confirmations and their website is good. Each time (except for one when I assume it was lunch time) I called I was greeted with a friendly answer which is important to me. Stacy was my stylist and she completed my twists quickly and with ease. She was also very friendly and accommodating and even gave me great hair tips for myself and my daughters. Yes, they are pricey but being in a private apt. rather than a crowded, loud salon is worth it to me. She was super pleasant and professional, made me feel relaxed since this was the first time I was getting this style. Today, I had a double strain twist done by Kameelah. She was wonderful. She has a very warm personality and is extremely knowledgeable about natural hair care and styles. My hair is very thin on the top (picture Chairman Mao) and you must take care to give the illusion of full hair. I let my hair grow out from wearing a short coiffed Afro. I have been wearing my hair in a bun but was tired of that look and wanted something different. Kameelah did a two strain twist and worked her magic in the front of my hair to give the illusion that it is fuller. I absolutely love the way my hair came out. I had a 2' Clock appointment and was seated promptly at 2. I do not like salons that do not respect my time and Bohemian Soul appreciates this. The staff is professional and friendly. An added bonus is that the salon is green. I am very concerned about my carbon foot print, therefore, the fact that my receipt was emailed to me was wonderful! I will definitely return. read more

I was abroptly given a new stylist without my consent or warning who knew nothing about my hair texture and wasn't as knowledgeable. Extremely unprofessional. It's ironic that I had actually been calling all week and they wouldn't answer the phone... but I booked an appointment with them anyway-- which they confirmed in three different ways (images below). Whelp, bad idea. They TEXTED me some ambiguous language right before my appointment, telling me about someone else having had booked their appointment "prior" to me. Ok... cool. But what does "prior" mean in this case: 1) someone booked prior as is a 9am appointment, which would push my time back; or 2) someone booked prior as in for the same 10am slot, but before I did (which would be wild with all these confirmation and reminder messages). Like, be clear if your going to send me a thoughtless text message to a $200+ service that I'm commuting 1.5hrs to get to. I called 7 times to clarify, no answer (the website says they open at 8am.. so they hear it). I emailed, as per the directions on the voicemail. Ultimately, I'm disappointed more so in how they handled the situation more than the situation itself. Mistakes happen, that's fine. But the customer service is shot. Pick up the phone and call, as a courtesy for the error on your end. It's a business for goodness sake. Do better. Smh. (And they better not charge my card that I had to put on file. Lol) read more

It can be difficult to find someone that knows how to properly work with thick, kinky hair. I also appreciated that she was quick. I was in and out in 2 hours, which is a small miracle. Kerlisha has been doing my hair in crochet braids since 2015 and I would never use anyone else to do my hair. She's professional, friendly, courteous and excellent at what she does. I remember my first appointment, it was my first time getting crochet braids. She made me feel at ease and explained to me how the service worked. She has gentle hands when washing and braiding my hair. I always leave her chair a happy and satisfied customer. I constantly get compliments on my hair and I have referred everyone to Kerlisha. She's done my sister and friends hair and everyone was satisfied with her services. Kerlisha is now holding my hand through my transition. The salon is great. Cozy, intimate, clean, nicely decorated and everyone is professional. My experience has traumatized me. I bought a Groupon deal and although very accommodating to me for the constant rescheduling, I was assured as long as I booked my appt. by the expiry date, I could still utilize the Groupon deal. Once I arrived on time, I was seated and the stylist was NOT to pleased that I didn't detangle my natural twist outs. I came for a flat iron and blowout. I hadn't been to a salon in 2 years. Always nervous about the stylist not really caring for my large amount of natural hair. She was not pleasant and annoyingly said "$25 to detangle I have other clients coming and I have to detangle all of this and it eats up time from them." I had no choice in the matter as I let her do her thing. She was not gentle. She was not compassionate toward my natural hair, and she pulled, raked, and damn near snapped my neck off. I was then told I need a trim. No problem I said. SHE CUT MY HAIR. SHE CUT MY HAIR! She cut it so much in the back that it has the appearance of the high top afro and short tapered look in the back. Everyone asked why'd I cut my hair. I didn't notice it was cut until after the blowout/flatiron style was done. When I wet my hair, it shrunk and u could clearly see how much of my hair was cut. I'm upset but not as upset as I could be. My spirit felt something from her and I ignored it. When she asked why I hadn't had my hair trimmed, I said "because I'm afraid the stylists will cut my hair!" So yes, I kinda asked for that didn't I? When. I walked in, the receptionist was bubbly and friendly. I liked her and the other stylist who spoke nicely to her client. My stylist clearly was not feeling me or.my hair. Oh and she's natural as well. Big old hug fro. The salon is clean, smells nice, and music is wonderful and soothing. I just didn't feel a "soul" connection with Kai. Her next client came as she finished my flat iron blow out hair style which only lasted until I got to Nostrand and St. Johns. I have 5C hair and that humidity just laughed at me... I called to see if I can switch my remaining 2 appts according to the Groupon Deal to another style other than the flat iron blow out I had purchased and was told no and that my chance to use those other sessions expired. I drove to Bohemian Soul from New Jersey in hopes of finally finding a salon that could give me a quality protective style for these cold winter months on the North coast. I decided on the Urban Curl and the appointment slot online said the style would take 150 minutes to complete, also the cost was $190 :-|. I'm not used to spending that kind of money to get my hair done but I said "maybe the hair is good quality and they focus on customer hair care." I must say, my stylist was very nice and we had a good conversation but the way she handled my hair was the way most of our mom's did back in the 80's and 90's when our communities weren't as educated on Black hair care. I looked past that and hoped for a good outcome but honestly, my head looked like a pumpkin at the end (lol). I only liked my hair after going home and playing in it, cutting, shaping, and even taking pieces out for a good hour long. I don't think this style was worth $190, given the quality of the hair, the way my own hair was handled, and my stylists crochet hair placement ability. WARNING: This is a LONG review! (It was written after I visited the salon in May 2013 even though I am posting it almost a year later... They have since moved to a new location.) I normally wear my shoulder-length natural hair in twist/braid-outs, but I got so frustrated with my hair one day this week that I decided to opt for a protective style so I wouldn't have to touch it for awhile. A Facebook friend forwarded a link to the Bohemian Soul website and I fell in love with the "Uptown Curl", which is one of the salon's signature styles. I looked up the salon on Yelp and saw that it had good reviews, so on a whim, I booked an appointment. The online scheduling is great - so quick and easy! The next day I started having doubts about a protective style (I was just worried about trying something new) so I needed some questions answered. I called the salon and spoke with Deitra who patiently answered all of my (many!) questions. I asked if there was anything I needed to do to my hair and she said that I should shampoo my hair, detangle, divide it into 4 sections and let it air dry. That's exactly what I did. My appointment was at 10:00 a.m. on a Saturday. I live in Harlem and the salon is in Crown Heights, Brooklyn (an unfamiliar area for me) so I left my house very early. HopStop said to take the A train to Nostrand Ave. From there, the salon is about a 10-minute walk. It was fine because it was a nice day, but it's not really that convenient to public transportation (but maybe that's just because I'm used to the train being outside my apartment building... I'm spoiled, I guess!) and I would not have been happy had the weather been less than pleasant. As another poster mentioned, the "salon" is located inside of a private apartment. You have to be buzzed into the building. Be warned, the salon is on the 3rd floor of a WALK-UP. I looked everywhere for an elevator... only to discover there isn't one! But the walk up the stairs is really not bad at all (and this is from someone who, as I mentioned before, is spoiled!). Once inside the building, there are two sets of staircases. To get to Bohemian Soul, you need to take the staircase furthest from the front door, which I learned the hard way by going up the wrong staircase and having to come back down and climb the stairs AGAIN! LOL! When I arrived at the salon, I was greeted at the door by Stacey who turned out to be my stylist for the day. Because I had allotted so much travel time, I wound up being 25 minutes early for my appointment. That worked out in my favor. Even though I was early, as soon as I walked in, Stacey put me in a seat and started working on my hair. Since my hair was already washed and detangled, she just started braiding. I got there at 9:35 and I was walking back down Pacific Street by 11:20 with a head full of beautiful curls!! In and out in under 2 hours. It's a miracle! I had downloaded two movies thinking I'd be there all day, and didn't even have time to watch one of them! Please note, MINE LOOKS BETTER!! :-) Within 2 hours of leaving the salon, I'd already racked up at least 5 compliments. Just saying... The salon itself is just one room. There is one wash bowl, a hooded dryer, two stylist chairs, a couch, and a desk with a computer. That's it. No frills. But it was comfortable and clean and that's all I really cared about. Plus, they played really good music! LOL. Stacey, my stylist, was a joy. She worked quickly but thoroughly, and made pleasant/appropriate conversation without being overbearing. The best part about it all? I was the ONLY client being worked on the entire time I was there! WHAT?! I had her undivided attention and, as such, she was really able to customize the style to reflect what I wanted. I have never been the only client in a hair salon before. It was amazing! AND, Stacey told me that she had already completed an early morning client before I got there (I got there at 9:35 am, so that's just mind-blowing to me!) and had another coming after me and we all would have her undivided attention. Great customer service! Bottom line, I highly, HIGHLY recommend the salon and Stacey in particular. My hair looks exactly the way I envisioned it when I made the appointment and that almost NEVER happens for me when I visit a salon. Also, Stacey told me that the salon would be moving to a storefront on Nostrand Ave in a few weeks, and it will now be closer to the train with no walk-up!! I give Bohemian Soul five stars because my hair stylist Kameelah is phenomenon, I did the Express Baby Doll Twist, this is my third visit to the salon, really professionals, and a job well done, the shop is clean, the music is quiet, and soothing, Kaameelah, is pleasant, and also informative, instructing me how to take care of my twist, and what is really awesome, is that I get so many compliments about my hair. My husband, and I recently went to his 50th class reunion in Virginia for three days, and I received many compliments about my hair, and also I have to mention that Kaameelah is fast, I thought it would take 2 hrs.to do my hair, it only took 1 hr, and a half, I couldn't ask for anything more. Update. I took out the flat twists today and realized that 2 inches of my hair was cut off. I would not be so upset if 1) the stylist had actually talked to me before she started cutting 2) if the "trim" turned haircut actually had any type of shape to it. No thought was put into this I have very fine thin edges due to alopecia losing 2 inches of hair in the front is a very big deal. As stylists your job should make sure that your clients feel happy, beautiful and confident in the services rendered. 4 days after I leave your chair I should still be happy. read more

All I can say is Keke! This young lady did a great job on my Urban Curl. This was only my second time at Bohemian Soul. The first time the young lady did a good job, but was not very personable. Anyway on my follow up appointment I only chose Keke because I had to go out that evening and the other young lady wasn't in. Well let's just say I didn't know what a blessing it was that I chose Keke. I went in for a touch up but need a redo. The owner adjusted Keke schedule and the team accommodated me. Keke was very informative she told me how to take care of my hair. We engaged in a great conversation; laughing and joking until my do was done. Although the owner hinting to her to hurry for her next appointment, Keke took her time and ensured my curl was tight. Before Bohemian Soul opened its doors, I saw the awning and was excited that a seemingly lovely Natural hair salon would be in my neighborhood!! I wouldn't normally be so quick to give a business five stars but my experience was superb - from my initial conversation (consultation) with Deitra to my actual experience at the salon with the stylist Iscia. Bohemian Soul itself is charming and has a relaxed vibe. Instead of loud patois or people screaming in Spanish/French in my ear for 3 hours, there was soothing but upbeat music that reminded me that it was Saturday night yet I could still have a conversation with Iscia without screaming... I had a 4PM appointment and was acknowledged and seen soon after my punctual arrival. Because clients are able to book online, as long as clients arrive on time, stylists are able to seamlessly complete hairstyles and keep their appointments. As a "busy," professional woman, I REALLY appreciate when others value my time. Was I dreaming??? No, it was all very real and an overall amazing experience. Even though the service was good I have to give it 2 stars because the final product was awful. Part of it was the fact that I didn't do proper research and I went to this hair salon to do something that they don't specialize in, so I will own that. However, the final product was so bad, that they should've recognized that and suggested something else to do with my hair. When I called to make an appointment I asked for a 'wash and go.' I'm Dominican so I have a mixed hair-- really tight curls that look really good if moisturized properly (with like a lot of hair product). I saw some of the images of this salon of women with curly hair and assumed that that happened through great styling and conditioning (once there I noticed this wasn't real hair...). They seem to be great at braiding hair and adding extensions, but not at styling and enhancing natural hair that wants to stay natural (this is my assessment based on my one experience). Anyways, here is my experience: when I arrived my stylist (Kerlisha) was ready for me. She separated and detangled my hair in a very relaxing and gentle way then she washed and conditioned my hair again in a super relaxing and gentle way. I felt in heaven during that process. But after the condition my hair was stripped of moisture because the products used were not strong enough for my hair. She suggested twisting it and placing it under the dryer, which seemed like a good idea. But then I saw her do these super thick super lose twists, and I lost all faith in the process. Before my hair fully dried (which is super susceptible to humidity and frizz) she undid the strands and then placed my head back under the dryer. My hair was so dry and frizzy at that point I just decided to call it a day a few minutes later. My only other experience visiting a hair salon for my natural hair was DevaChan (which specialize in enhancing naturally curly hair). I don't believe all hair salons for natural hair need to be able to do what the stylist at DevaChan do, but I need a hair salon that can make my natural hair look good without adding anything artificial to it. read more

I made an appointment for my mom to get the crochet weave and she was very excited about getting her hair done. After she got her hair done we noticed that the bottom back of her head did not have any hair crochet in which is not what we paid for. We paid for a full head crochet weave. My mom called and complained and they told her that the owner will call her back. It's almost a month and no one called us yet to address this issue. First I want to say that my first impression of the salon was great, it was clean, professional, and the stylists there were very friendly. Especially my stylist Iscia, we had great convo when she was doing my hair and when I left the salon I loved the way my hair looked!! It had volume, bounce and lots of curls. Unfortunately the above was a fleeting moment bc 2 hours later my hair looked a hot mess. They performed on my hair a system called "Natural Blow Out " which is an amino acid/protein based product that promises to provide silky smooth results and frizz free hair up to 8 weeks. It is also promises that you will experience easier straightening with less heat and reversion. After 12 hours, my hair was frizzy, my roots had swelled, and my curls were non-existent. Make a long story short when I went back to the salon today so that they could address my hair issues, they basically tag teamed and said there was nothing could or would to fix my hair. They kept saying it was my fault that the product didn't work and that I should have wrapped instead of wearing it out. Funny bc Iscia asked me before I left the salon if I wanted to leave it out or have it wrapped! They also said that the reason why ends were straighter than my roots is bc I have color on the ends. Huh???? I paid $165 for the treatment and a trim not including the tip, yes you read right $165 for a system that went completely kaput in 12 hours. Basically they started becoming rude and combative and only offered to give me a free deep conditioning treatment for my trouble. Oh and a booklet bout the product they used www.basichaircarepro.com (don't use this ever!!) so that I could be better aware of "the process". I declined and graciously walked out bf I lost my cool. Great décor, the location was perfect. The ambiance and music meshed well. However, my stylish did not deliver what was expected. I requested a style which was featured on the salons website. I consulted with the stylist before because I was nervous at first. I even ask could the style be performed exactly; I was assured yes. I told the stylish what was expected she failed to comply. When I asked for an alteration to the hair I was told by the stylish this couldn't be done. The hair did not fit me and I felt uncomfortable in my skin. I really looked hideous. The stylish then begin to share that the model used her own hair in the picture and her hair was longer, basically a bunch of bull, but that should have been said 5 and half hours before. I feel if the stylish wasn't capable of performing the style she said have said so or refer to someone who could. If what I was asking for unbearable she should have suggested a style for me. I'm an amateur stylish but even I know that. , Basically, my hair was not salon quality. It was not worth the money I dished out. When leaving the salon I was asked by the owner "Do you like it". I told her no. As soon as I said that, her whole demeanor changed. "Well it looks nice". Who says that? Then she asked me what could have been done different. I told her the fullness and length could have changed. She says "well you have to request that". This made me really upset!!!! As if I didn't request it and was told by my stylist it couldn't be done... I entered like a lady and left like one. Would I come back to this salon? "No". Would I refer someone to this salon? "Not for braided hairs styles maybe natural hair styles or I would tell them try the other stylists." Was the service worth the money? "No, for what I paid for I could have gotten two of the same styles from the local African braiding shops". "I feel "my" natural hair was not attended too, hence why I came to the salon. read more

Update from my previous review: Almost 3 months later, I am still getting compliments on my twists. I will definitely come back for another set in a few weeks. Why am I giving them two stars? I scheduled an appointment for a touch up and Stacy was an hour late. Her lateness seems to be a common occurrence. My touch up was suppose to take 30 mins(per the website). Apparently she had an appointment after me. They show up and Stacy still isn't here. So after about an hour she shows up. The lady who had her appt after me tells Stacy she does not have a lot of time. Stacy then asks me if I would allow her other client to go before me. uuuh...no.....unless she planned on giving me a discount for her being an hour late. Stacy said nevermind and told the lady it would only take 5mins to do my hair. I stopped her and said per the website, it is suppose to take 30mins. I did not want her to rush through my hair. I wanted this touch up done correctly. There were a few loose twists that needed to be tighten. She then asked me to show her. I said "it was throughout my hair. While you are going through it, you will see. " She actually started to get an attitude and cut me off. That is when I got the owner involved. At the end of my appt (which took 15mins) and as I am leaving out the door, the owner comes up to me to ask what happened, give me a hug, and ask me not to be upset. Here is a tip, if you are trying to run a successful business: 1. Respect your client's time. 2. Apologize but don't make excuses(i.e. Stacy saying she was sorry she was late but her train was delayed...I don't care. You are an hour late.) 3. I understand things happen beyond control sometimes..give your clients a 5%, 10% discount. 3. Teach your staff about professionalism and how to deal with an upset client. Lastly, as I mentioned, I will go back for more twists. I feel the quality of the product far outweighs this recent bad experience. However, if this lack of professionalism continues, I will be forced to take my business some where else. read more

I've been getting my hair done at Bohemian Soul since 2015. Kerlisha does my hair. Sometime I get the Bantu Curl,and than sometime I get the Baby Doll Crochet Twist, Kerlisha is the best, she is a beautiful person with a sunny personality, easy to talk to, and a professional, she knows her job, and she does it well, and she is fast. Today was my first time going to this salon and I must say it was a disaster. I have natural hair, my stylist Kerlisha didn't even check to see what type I had. I told her I needed a trim which she proceeded to do by wetting my hair, remember I all natural now no perm. It doesn't end there but I don't want to even think about. Today was my first visit with Bohemian Soul and I am thrilled with the salon's service and results! I like their online booking system and you can confirm directly with the owner, Deitra, also. I requested a cornrow Mohawk style with twist extensions, and I showed the owner several photos and she said it would be no problem. Other stylists i contacted previously were uncomfortable trying out a style that was not in their repertoire which is understandable, so it's a big deal when a stylist recreates a beautiful style from a photo. The salon is quiet and intimate and Deitra offered her customers water, and they play great music. My stylist was Kerlisha, and she did such a fantastic job and worked very quickly. She also was careful with the health of my hair; you know those braiders who believe your brains should be pulled out while getting your hair done? My hair was never pulled tight once, and the cornrows are done in such a lovely, sleek style. The salon also offers hair steaming with Ayurvedic herbs for a reasonable price, and other services and styles with your own natural hair or if you are adding extensions. Another customer had crochet extensions completed that looked so natural, not like the cookie cutter crochet styles I see frequently. I definitely recommend Bohemian Soul and I am so glad other ladies here suggested the salon! read more

I'm going to give a detailed review of my experience and why I only gave this popular natural hair salon only 2 stars. I got arrived at the salon as a walk in with no appointment had to wait for the only stylist to finish her two clients. No problem. I was willing to wait because I did not make an appointment. While I waited the owner gave me lots of books and magazines to peruse through and talked to me about my hair ( I am transitioning). The good: the salon is decorated very nicely. It's inviting and the staff here are very friendly and professional. The bad: after paying over $105 dollars I believe that a hair style should last longer then a week. My roller set lasted all of one day. I believe that I could have gotten the same service done for a fraction of the cost elsewhere. As a college student I do not have money to waste and was very disappointed that by day 2 the style looked horrible, even with proper upkeep on my behalf. read more
