He's just like the dad in Gilmore Girls, down to his bowtie and tweedy jacket. I liked him a lot. So did my mom. He was tremendously kind, right after my mom had been confirmed with an Alzheimer's diagnosis. The fees were reasonable, it was easy to get it all finished, and I thought it worked out well. A word of advice, keep hold of your documents, make copies, lock them up, put a fire breathing dragon outside them to guard them... ours went missing ( there's a possibility my mom destroyed them, sigh) and when I went back to them for help ( granted, a few years later), they didn't have a file for her anymore, or the documents in their computer. My mom's Alzheimer's is now too advanced for them to do them again. She had to be reasonably competent to get that done. This sucked. They were nice about it, explaining they'd changed computer systems, but it still sucked. Now I have to figure out how to go after guardianship probably. The second time I went to see Vicki Vernon about a family law issue. She was kind enough, but now that I have been around the block a bit more, I know that she's not quite the shark I would need to accomplish what I was setting out to accomplish. I dropped this proceeding and she was kind enough about that, as well, handling that very professionally. I think this is an ok little law firm if you are doing something simple, but you might want to reach out to someone more sharky if you want to do something big. Does that make sense?

The right thing to do would be to finish out those cases he already committed to, but he will not. He pushed us to another attorney at his firm, Todd Peck, and assured us Todd would finish our legal matter with a contractor dispute. Todd agreed to this at the time. Now, both of them are stepping back, which means we have to start over: find new counsel, pay a new 15k retainer, and redo work that should have already been handled. Throughout the representation, it often felt like corners were being cut, communications weren't fully read, wrong information was shared, and at one point during an active legal crisis, we were told Kevin was unavailable because he was on vacation. In my opinion, this reflects poorly on how much client outcomes were actually prioritized here. Kevin has since transitioned to mediation work, but based on our experience, I would be cautious about trusting him in that role given how this was handled. When we asked for a clear explanation of why Todd could no longer help, we were given an explanation that did not match our own email records. Still, neither attorney has taken accountability for that discrepancy or for not following through on what they had assured us. When you're in a stressful legal situation and looking for strong, professional representation, that is not what we feel we received, and we wanted to share this to help others avoid the same experience.
