It's been years since our last visit to Sushi Bang Bang--long before COVID-19 pandemic. We even tried to come back once after things reopened, but dining in was still difficult because of the health and safety restrictions at the time. We finally made it back last Saturday for lunch, and it was definitely worth the wait. I was initially excited to try one of their bento meals after seeing the menu online, but the prices at the restaurant were much higher than what was posted. That's understandable considering how much costs have gone up over the years, so we decided to go with the AYCE option instead. It turned out to be the perfect choice. A special shoutout to our server, whose name I unfortunately forgot to ask. She was friendly, attentive, and honest enough to recommend that we not order too much at first because the tempura portions are much larger than expected. The portion sizes here are much bigger than what we're used to at AYCE sushi restaurants in San Antonio. The shrimp tempura and vegetable tempura were generously sized, with thick, crispy batter that was still flavorful and delicious. Some of our favorite were the Salmon Skin salad, which stayed perfectly crispy even with the dressing, and the Mushroom Soup, which was light, flavorful, and not thick or creamy like many other versions. The shrimp and chicken shumai, chicken karaage, mango rolls, and all of the sashimi we ordered were fresh and delicious as well. Overall, we had a wonderful experience. Between the generous portions, fresh and tasty food, and outstanding service, Sushi Bang Bang reminded us why we enjoyed dining here years ago. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Austin--and now we know to order a little more wisely because the portions are huge! read more

I stopped by for lunch to get my sushi fix, and sushi bang bang was able to satisfy my craving Friendly wait staff. I will admit it had been a month or two since I had used a pair of chopsticks so my chopstick skills were not the greatest, the wait staff noticed, and quietly put a fork wrapped in a napkin on the corner of my table to make things easier for me, if I so chose to use traditional American tableware I did not... Place is still great but AYCE prices have gotten waaaay too high. I generally get one of their kitchen combo meals (I get the veg roll one, comes with 3 types of veg sushi and your choice of a salad or miso). Muuuch more affordable and I'm full after that. I also noticed that their website has a happy hour menu on there but in restaurant, there is no happy hour menu to be found... does it even exist anymore? Who knows. Perhaps someone forgot to take it down. Regardless, as a vegetarian, even the happy hour menu doesn't help me bc 99% of the rolls included on the happy hour menu are fish ones and the only 2 veg ones are the mega expensive ones, which even 50% off for them is still steep. Sushi Bang Bang has a nice, cozy, casual atmosphere inside, and seating is quick even at prime times. We both ordered the all you can eat sushi, which seems fairly priced at $37.95. We ordered miso soup and spicy edamame for appetizers (both delicious), and then had a combination of maki, handrolls, and special rolls. I enjoyed the hand rolls - especially the eel. For special roll, we had the romance roll, which was a combination of spicy tuna and eel and also very good. Dessert of fried bananas and green tea ice cream was also festive. My main complaint is our meal took a very long time to get to us. After our appetizers we waited over twenty minutes for our first rolls. Other than this, great experience. read more

We stopped by for their AYCE. The restaurant is located in a shopping center, so parking is easy. We loved the front décor with the wooden slats and plants. The ambient lighting was nice, though it made the menu a bit hard for me to see, and there are plenty of tables inside. We went close to closing time for the lunch buffet, which wasn't ideal since we had to rush to order before last call (about 30 minutes before lunch ends). The staff were friendly and courteous. Sushi came out quickly, while items from the kitchen took a bit longer. Everything was fresh and delicious. We maxed out the sushi/sashimi limit on our first round. Our favorites were the takoyaki, meat skewers, stir-fried shrimp, some of the fried appetizers, and fried banana & green tea ice cream. The fried rice was bomb--great wok hei! One thing to note: if you're mainly a sushi/sashimi fan, you may not get your full money's worth due to the per-person limit. But if you enjoy regular sushi rolls (we usually skip rolls since they take up too much stomach real estate ) and a variety of appetizers and hot dishes, this AYCE is definitely worth it. Also, some grilled and stir-fried dishes come in full portions, so it's good to ask before ordering. read more

We came around 4 PM on a Saturday and didn't have to wait. They offer both an à la carte menu and an AYCE option, which is $37.99 all week. If you choose AYCE, you're given one sushi menu and one kitchen menu to mark up. The server goes over the specials and any limited sushi items before you order. The staff was very attentive, though the food took a bit of time to come out. Unfortunately, we found the fish to be not fresh at all--probably the worst sashimi/nigiri we've had. That said, the tempura items were solid. The chashu ramen was just okay, and the pork belly bun wasn't bad, but the pork belly skewer was overcooked and extremely dry. The meal ended on a sweet note with the tempura Oreo and ice cream, which was a fun touch. Surprisingly, the highlight of the meal was the spicy edamame. If you're looking for quality sushi, I'd recommend going to an omakase spot instead. read more

I visited the place yesterday and got the Ayce deal. There were not that many people around at 7 pm. They have a variety of sushi and kitchen items available. The sashimi was easily one of the best I ever had. It did not taste fishy at all and it tasted fresh. The salmon nigiri had a somewhat of a good rice to fish ratio with just a tad too much rice for my liking. The staff were really nice and efficient in bringing out the food in a quickly manner. My wife and I used to loooove this place. But, the taste has changed across most of the dishes. Some of the dishes are still very good, but some of our favorites aren't what they used to be. And, maybe we caught them on an "off night", but the service isn't what it used to be either. I think our waiter lost patience for us cause he never wants to come around. Came here after the gym to try out a new sushi spot. I tried their lunch specials. It's a great deal because during lunch all rolls and items on the menu are 50% off. I had a spicy tuna hand roll, glass of wine and the geisha roll. All were delicious. The day was hot so it was nice to sit in a dim chill corner on my own to unwind. Servers were nice and attentive. A hidden gem in the chaotic 183 area!!! We waited for thirty minutes as walk in on a Sunday and were seated in a comfy corner. Perfect decoration I did not mind the wait for the food as I looked at the wall mural. I ordered three kinds of sashimi and loved it. We celebrated my friend's birthday and we capped the night by having dinner here. We ordered edamame (yummy), calamari (ok), seafood ramen, steak, beef teriyaki, and lots of other main dish. I came here during the week for lunch with my daughter and I was surprised to find their excellent lunch special (50% off almost all of their rolls and sushi!). I opted for the lunch special versus the AYCE since I was by myself (well, my daughter was there but she is 2); however I spent the same amount as AYCE, but I guess a better value since I was able to bring the extra chicken katsu home and it served as a meal for my husband. The quality of the food is okay. I got the chicken Katsu kids meal, which ironically was the most expensive part of my meal since it wasn't 50% off. My daughter liked it and I enjoyed the sauce. It comes with the katsu, rice, potstickers (which were very hard and my daughter couldn't eat them), and fried oreos (My daughter gobbled those up quick!). I got the salmon sashimi, which was cut very thickly and not as cold as I liked and a roll that claimed to have scallops in it but had so much tempura flakes, I couldn't really taste the scallops. Service-wise, I didn't experience any issues. The server and hostess were both very friendly and we were seated promptly when we arrived. The food came out fast and they were very accomodating to my daughter, making sure she got a cup with a lid, booster seat, etc. Finally, the ambiance. It is very clean, nicely decorated with sushi restaurant charm. I'm not sure if it's on my list of my must visit again, but I do always like an AYCE sushi option with a big group. read more

This is the only AYCE sushi joint I've found in the Cedar Park area. P2 and I wanted to celebrate a milestone, so we tried Sushi Bang Bang. We came here Thursday evening for dinner and opted for the $38 AYCE. The server explained how the process worked, like how some choices are limited in quantity by order and how there's no limit to how much we could order. Throughout the evening, we ordered sashimi, nigiri, specialty rolls, hand rolls, appetizers, and desserts. We were given a new ticket each time we ordered to mark what we wanted to order next. Two pencils were provided so each of us could note what we wanted. The food came out fast, and we could see the sushi chefs diligently working on each new order that came in. We were pleasantly surprised to see that all the servers worked to help each other. There were four of them that night, and each one either brought out our food, answered our questions, or took a new order. Their processes were so streamlined that we felt the entire team was looking after us! The meat-to-rice ratio is excellent, meaning they don't overstuff their sushi with rice. Their hand rolls are taco style, which took some time to get used to. But again, a lot of fish compared to how much sushi rice was served in the roll. We were there for about an hour and a half and never felt rushed to leave. The food was delicious, and the fish was fresh enough. They don't have the freshest fish, but the quality is above the norm we have in Austin. There's a quiet ambiance inside, suitable for conversations. Depending on where you sit, it is dimly lit. But overall, we genuinely enjoyed our experience here and would love to revisit it! read more

This is my go to sushi bar... You can order à la carte or all you can eat, which allows you to order a variety of foods in addition to sushi! Unique in that they have salmon skin that is made fresh and not just peeled off previously smoked salmon. Salmon skin salad makes a wonderful lunch! I prefer the Ginger carrot dressing and do without eel sauce on the skin. Most times it is very crunchy sometimes not or would be 5 Star! Sushi, including specials, good and fresh. A great place for AYCE Sushi! I came here with a friend on a Tuesday night, and the service was prompt. The sashimi was a pretty large portion. The only downside is that there is a 3-piece limit per sashimi piece. So, if there are two of you, you can only order six pieces. Other than that, for the price and size of the rolls, handrolls, and variety of appetizers, I think it's definitely worth the value.
